HEY HI! Sorry about the page disappearance! It's not my fault, it's cuz TinyPic died. But luckily for you, I have made a solution! MY VERY OWN WEBSITE JUST FOR MY COMICS!
ello friends! Hawky here! I'd been on the original art fourms since 2010, with four successful comics! Welcome to my fifth comic! YIN AND YANG.
As you might of heard, Yin and Yang is a remake of my very first comic. If you read the story back in the day (if so, I apologize that you had to suffer through that horrible old art. Don't worry, I'm all better now) please don't spoil anything. Also, If you've read The Unforgiven, my third comic, there's spoilers for this in that, too. So as long as no one spoils anything, we'll all have more fun!
BACKGROUND INFO:
The Mountain Territories, as I call them, are made up of three Clans. There was previously a fourth, in the old comic, but it was never relevant, so it no longer exists.
MountainClan: Lives on a mountain
FrozenClan: Lives on and by a river/waterfall that freezes over in the winter
TundraClan: Lives on a tundra
More info about each Clan will be revealed as the comic progresses
The original Yin and Yang did not have a 'music video', as it only became a Thing after my second comic, Broken Wings. I'm making up for that. A (joking) alternate title for this comic could be Yin and Yang: The Musical. But don't worry, it's not all singing. It only means that there'll be more than one song.
And speaking of songs. A lot of this comic: the artistic direction, and the songs taken, etc. were inspired by a specific movie. That is Disney's 2003 masterpiece: Brother Bear. So, if you want, give that a watch. It's fantastic.

CHARACTER LIST ON SECOND POST!!
NOTE: The HT and clawmarks in the corner of each page is my watermark! DON'T STEAL MY ARTS!
And this comic is nearly 100% MS paint! Some other programs are sometimes used for effects, just in case there are questions asked! Also, I use a Wacom Bamboo Tablet!
ALSO! Genders of cats are recognized by cheek fur in this comic! She-cats have cheek fur and toms do not! Toms also have thicker eyebrows...
FANART FOR ALL COMICS IS ALWAYS ACCEPTED!
PLEASE NO ADVERTISING HERE WITHOUT PERMISSION! ASK ME BEFORE PLEASE!
SO! ON to the comic!
Cover
Page 1
Opening with a song! 'Great Spirits' from Brother Bear. It'll all make sense soon. Also, ignore the 'man' part. I'm not even sure if humans exist in my comic world
Page 2
Hey look, some characters! Their names will be revealed in time. Oh, and their colorful markings are dye, not natural
Page 3
Still not completely satisfied with the aurora, it's hard to do on paint. Used Pixlr for some glow effects too tho. Not looking forward to drawing more of those...
Page 4
Woohoo clan founding! When kits become apprentices, and apprentices become warriors/medicine cats, they get some dye markings for the ceremony. The leaders always have some.
Page 5
The origin of the Yin Yang necklaces was never explained in the original comic. So here it is. Everything else will be explained in time
Page 6
I think there'll be one more page of this chapter, and thus, ends the song as well
Page 7
they sealed up the pendants, and now the song is over and the story can start!
Page 8
So names revealed! Kind of. And MountainClan camp! It's in a crater! If you look closely on the pages with mountains, you can see it sort of on the rightmost mountain. Also "spirits" and "StarClan" can be used interchangeably now
Page 9
this is dialogue, not narration btw. See how the text boxes are rounded, not square? Square is for narration, rounded is for speech. And look, pretty backgrounds. I love galaxies
Page 10
Browntail! MountainClan Medicine Cat! Was in the original Yin and Yang and had a small appearance in The Unforgiven! She be talking to someone who will be revealed in the next page!
Page 11
Here's Frostwhisker! And also her kits, our future protagonists! First page on the new forums and first page I did on my laptop instead of the PC I normally use!
Page 12
In the original comic, Frostwhisker had the prophecy suddenly appear to her. That is no longer the case; Browntail already knows the prophecy, as she said it's been passed down
Page 13
First page up from college! Sorry for the wait, guys!!
Page 14
Woohoo! Clan information! And science lessons! I always try to make my comics at least somewhat educational
Page 15
Yay! Our protagonists have dialogue! Everything involving Yinkit and her fur will be explained in the coming pages
Page 16
This is a flashback, in case it isn't clear. It'll go back to normal time in the next page
Page 17
Next page is back to normal time
Page 18
Don't have much to say here except that I'm trying to work on shading and light sources and I was impatient and didn't do that on the last panel as much as I should have
Page 19
Monday seems to be my page day... I didn't feel like doing backgrounds much, so have some pretty colors
Page 20
Lavenderstar! I was debating changing her design for so long, but I decided just to keep it. In the original comic, my plan was for her to look like a light-colored Russian Blue, like how Bluestar is normally portrayed? But she became purple... Oh well. Fun fact, her Warrior name was Lavenderstem. Also, Browntail is average-sized, Lavenderstar is just big
Page 21
sorry this took so long. Tried to do some cool lighting at least
Page 22
I was like "I wonder what Yin and Yang would look like in something that's not Paint?" and this happened... I don't like it as much, and it actually takes longer lol. So here, have a 'this is what it could have been' for Halloween. Next page and the rest of the comic are back to my usual Paint!
Page 23
I needed to draw today and a page was overdue so here. The first panel is my favorite on this page
Page 24
It has been too long, so I present you a page with full backgrounds! As a special gift for being such great fans and also for always being so patient! Also, the black cat next to Frostwhisker is Yinkit and Yangkit's father! His name is Jayflight, and I'm not sure if this will be his only appearance
Page 25
This page is pretty to me?? Did some different lining things with the first few panels anyway. EDIT: clarified with the breathing since I was asked about it, to make it clearer what's going on
Page 26
Bigger page and whoa sudden style experiment. Dunno felt like a change. I might keep it who knows. It's just soo pretty!! I do believe that Whitestep is the prettiest cat I have ever drawn
Page 27
Still working on this style, but I'm liking it more and more! Hope you guys do too!
Page 28
Skullstripe! I made a few changes to his design, like he's off-white instead of white and he has golden eyes now 'casue I actually didn't give them a color on accident in the original comic and they were grey for his cameo in The Unforgiven, but I didn't like that so they're golden now. The three cats reacting in the second frame are just random Clan cats, but yellow-and-white one was in the background of another page. Their descriptions are in the character list
Page 29
Oh well that's good. There's a reason Skullstripe changed his mind, and all I'm saying is that it has something to do with Browntail.
Page 30
I did this page while trying to work out a recording program that would allow me to do one of those speedpaint things... but I haven't figured it out yet. Its very complicated. But bonus for you guys! You get a page! We meet some other Apprentices and have Yinpaw start an internal crisis. Fun! New character descriptions are in the thing
Page 31
Well I figured out speedpaints and I'll tell you guys where to find that soon. And I go back to school tomorrow, so perhaps no page for a but, but I'll also let you guys know that too!
Page 32
finally in the next page we'll have different backgrounds I'm so ready my dudes. Oh, and traditionally, new Apprentices keep their dye markings on all day the first day of their apprenticeship. It's like 'look at me! I'm advancing in society!' and Skullstripe's taking that away from Yinpaw. Symbolism symbolism symbolism
Page 33
i'm so glad to have my eraser back. I was previously only able to use it as its meant to be used (as in able to be resized at will) on my PC cause it had a number keyboard, which my laptop doesn't have. But I figured out how to do it, and now we can have good backgrounds!!
Page 34
This page is so pretty I love it. Yangpaw's being shown the territory
Page 35
Whoohoo scenery! and finally the end of chapter 2!
Page 36
Yinpaw VS Mouse! Who will win? Find out, next time! Also, I figured I for some reason never have funny moments in my comics? Like they're usually just focused on the story instead of jokes? So I did a funnyish pose
Page 37
Mouse- 1, Yinpaw- 0! The mouse is doing that fingers-in-ears-and-tongue-raspberry gesture thing in the last panel, in case it isnt clear. Its being cheeky like ha ha i got away!
Page 38
Instead of yelling at Yinpaw, you could have caught the mouse, Skullstripe. But no, and Yinpaw's hunting fails continue. That bird that she fails to catch is a Steller's Jay, a bird that is found in Alaska, which is where I'm basing the landscaping of this comic on. That's also a different mouse than the one before, a chipmunk, and an arctic hare
Page 39
Oh Skullstripe, do you think that's not going to affect her later in life? Why u so mean. Anyway, a few days pass and a few of the Apprentices are practicing battle techniques! The dark blue cat is Rainblade, the Deputy and Thunderpaw's mentor, and the other blue one with the stripes is Mistmask, Beepaw's mentor. Hawkpaw's mentor may be there somewhere, but there wasn't space to draw them and I didn't feel like adding a eight cat in one frame geez. Oh yeah, and they're by the Two Trees, which is used as a training area
Page 40
Aw geez there's gonna be a lot of complicated poses in the next few pages, aren't there? Oh well, I need the practice. Anyway... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Page 41
Gentletom... gentleman... get it? I'm hilarious. Hawkpaw thinks I'm hilarious.
Page 42
Beepaw back at it again with fun sayings
Page 43
Oh how the tables have turned
Page 44
Mistmask finally makes a return and gets speaking lines! And we have a convenient segue back into Yinpaw's whereabouts next page!
Page 45
Yinpaw has finally Had Enough. But oh no! You've insulted his pride! That don't look good. Anyway, we finally have a somewhat good scale of the size of the mountain. If you look on the left side of the first panel, those are some rockslide rocks, like what Lavenderstar said a while ago. The western ledges are on the same altitude as the camp, just on the back of the mountain, which is west. The outlook rock and other landmarks of page 34 and MountainClan Camp are on the east side
Page 46
What could this be? Glow? Yinpaw has no idea what is going on right now, btdubs. She's just scared out of her mind and whatever is happening is reacting with her fear. Glow effects made in FireAlpaca, my other art program
Page 47
get wrekt. ... anyway, confirming what is already obvious, Yinpaw has some sort of gift. Again though, she has no idea what is going on either
Page 48
Skullstripe escaped using Run Away! He's runnin back to camp and Yinpaw's... runnin somewhere else
Page 49
one of my brothers got a Nintendo Switch (well its for all of us for our birthday but he actually went and got it) and I've been playing way too much Breath of the Wild. Its the most beautiful game ever. Very pretty backgrounds, which i tried to do here on page 49 as well
Page 50
Whoohoo page 50! Like, this isn't even halfway done my dudes. Effects done in FireAlpaca, my other art program. Also, this was uploaded using a different site than I usually use, so if it acts up, let me know.
Page 51
I used a tape dispenser to model the correct pose for the second frame with my hand. Also, in the original comic, these had already been made into necklaces, but in this one, they aren't.
Page 52
Yangpaw's back! Yay!
Page 53
I got some comments on how i never color noses, so I decided to start doing that now I guess. I never had a reason for why I didnt before lol I guess I just... didnt?
page 54
Whoohoo! Three new characters! Iceflight is Rainblade's mate, and she had kits recently! Windykit and Stormkit! Also, if you haven't entered or havent submitted your entry to my contest, submissions are accepted until 11:59 on 6/9/17! link
Page 55
Sorry for the delay on this one! You can see why it took so long. But yay! More worldbuilding! The Clan icon designs belong to two winners of the contest! кєѕтяєℓ and Giziku (who's on DeviantART)
Page 56
*aggressively avoids drawing the complicated background* Good thing Yangpaw is so oblivious, cause Browntail, you're not subtle at all
Page 57
It's like when someone says 'no pressure'. Or when you've been good at something your whole life and thus have expectations to keep being perfect, but when it gets harder and you're no longer the best, the expectations haven't changed and you think its somehow your fault (or you're blamed) that you're not good anymore. Basically the feeling i'm trying to convey. TL;DR, Yangpaw is under a lot of pressure
Page 58
Ooh what's this? Plot? Eavesdropping? Yinpaw can't hear everything, so that's why there's blanks and starts and stops of sentences
Page 59
Now who could this mysterious Fawnspots be? You'll find out soon!
Page 60
Past trauma doesn't justify abuse, children! Also, Lavenderstar gets super fluffy when she's angry
Page 61
His punishment in the original comic was just three days confined in camp and like... that's not enough? At all? so I think this is better.
Page 62
So many reveals! In the original comic (and script of this comic), Owlwing was gonna be Yinpaw's mentor. But I felt like that would be Lavenderstar directly going against what Browntail said, and I didn't want that. They listen to each other. So Lilacflight it was! And plus, it adds another sibling dynamic on top of our overarching one of Yin and Yang. And look at that! It's Fawnspots! Also, fun fact, Browntail taught Lavenderstar how to draw. Its uncommon for anyone besides a Medicine Cat to do artwork.
Page 63
Mark your calendars, people. Let it be known that this is the first instance in 63 whole pages where Skullstripe has been shown smiling.
Page 64 ***BLOOD WARNING!***
Tigerfoot may look familiar to old readers of the original YY and also to readers of The Unforgiven. Also we have Erminestar (the blue point she-cat), former leader of FrozenClan, and Nightclaw (the black she-cat), now Nightstar, the leader of FrozenClan now!
Page 65
whoa deep... and boring backgrounds
Page 66
I can't wait to get out of this cave these backgrounds are so boring. Anyway, more deep stuff from the philosophical Lavenderstar
Page 67
Sorry for the wait on this one! But I love all you fans so much for always reassuring me that it's okay for it to be late! Don't worry, it'll never be too late though!
Page 68
We are finally out of Lavenderstar's den and this chapter has one more page left I think... finally chapter 3 will be done geez. Sprucefall was mentioned earlier, but he was Browntail's mentor, MountainClan's last Medicine Cat who retired to the Elders' den. He's MountainClan's only Elder
Page 69
and with that, this impossibly long chapter is over! And not on a very good note, either...
Page 70
I come bearing wholesome content. And just to clarify, it's not just the 'flash of light' that Lavenderstar told Browntail, she told her everything Skullstripe said, which was an exact report of what happened with Yinpaw's weird ability. So Lavenderstar did actually believe what Skullstripe said, but she didn't want him to know that.
Page 71
Here we have Owlwing and Willowbreeze! Owlwing has been mentioned a few times and he's in the background of page 24. Willowbreeze I think had a different name in the original YY, but she's Willowbreeze now and she's Hawkpaw's mentor! Owlwing is also a character one of my brothers had way back in the day (it was his username on the original WCF)
Page 72
There are... 23 cats on this page. See the names (along with my other art) on my DeviantART: link
Page 73
Whitepaw is not very white compared to Yangpaw. Oh, and Yinpaw is havin some problems... It's sensory processing disorder, something not always but sometimes connected to anxiety; basically too much noise (or light or other things in some cases. any sense) is really Bad and overwhelming
Page 74
He's here... the boi.
Page 75
FrozenClan has long claws, like what was said in chapter 1! For ice-fishing!
Page 76
I put the Clan symbols in the background, from my contest earlier this year. And FINALLY we're getting to PLOT!! Fun fact, Fishstar was the leader of GlacierClan in the original, and a cat called Hawkstar lead TundraClan, but I just switched them when I took out GlacierClan
Page 77
Ohmygod could it be? Actual plot? It's unheard of!! But yeah, that's what Browntail and Lavenderstar have been alluding at this whole comic, we FINALLY KNOW
Page 78
I like this page's layout. It's very nice I'm proud of myself.
Page 79
Yangpaw is havin a dream. It'll go back to not-dream next page, don't worry
Page 80
Page 80! Landmark, I guess! Chapter-wise, we are actually over halfway, there's gonna be eight chapters. But idk if that's the same in terms of pages. Anyway, some strange happenings! and yes i just copied a frame from last page shhh
Page 81
The mountain lions line is a reference to Broken Wings haha... Anyway, the MountainClan patrol meets a FrozenClan one! It's the Boi, Fogpaw, Cavesong (who was mentioned earlier, as Fogpaw's mentor; the grey/black tabby), and Nectarsplash, the Deputy!
Page 82
I forgot to mention that the tall, purple tom is Lilacflight, in case you didn't get that. I changed his design a little so he is more differentiated from Lavenderstar. Yangpaw's disgruntled face will be explained in the next page, be patient
Page 83
Finally that extra art piece I did of Stonepaw under the ice is explained haha! And just to be clear, no one heard what Yinpaw and Stonepaw were discussing. Yangpaw just saw them talking, nothing more. But look! Drama!
Page 84
Yinpaw: *blatantly ignores Yangpaw's advice* EDIT: made it darker like a night scene
Page 85
Whoa look time jump! I don't like time jumps, but this needed to happen for plot reasons. Also that was a terrible pun, Stonepaw.
Page 86
Stonepaw, thinking: (oh heck she's gorgeous)
Page 87
So Yinpaw came back before anyone got up, but Yangpaw has another dream, it seems. But confusion remains.
Page 88
This is the same day from the last page, btw. Oh look the skull man is back. And Lilacflight finally speaks! He's real pretty actually. Anyway I'm Hawktalon, and I loVE SIBLING DYNAMICS! edit: fixed spelling
Page 89
Aw no not this again skull man
Page 90
Gasp we're about to have some Drama
Page 91
Ooh drama! This chapter was supposed to end after page 86 but I forgot to end it, so chapter 6 might be kinda short
Page 92
This happened on page 28 of the original comic. The getting of the pendants, I mean. Also, as it's been a moon, there's another Gathering that's gonna happen soon! In the next chapter, actually.
Page 93
Yangpaw rushes in! In case it's not clear, she had another dream about Yinpaw getting up in the night, but his time she woke up in time to find her gone, and went to investigate.
Page 94
Relax guys, look, Stonepaw is fine. Anyway, thanks for waiting everyone! Sorry this one took so long to come out!
Page 95
Did I ever mention Yangpaw's the older twin? Well, she is. Yinpaw's being a little manipulatey here, but I guess she has kind of a right to... Or maybe she doesn't... it of course is a theme here at YY to have no situation be totally black and white
Page 96
and with that, we begin chapter 7! The penultimate chapter!
Page 97
Another Gathering! MountainClan usually arrives last 'cause they have to get down the mountain. And Daylightpaw isn't in the frame 'cause she's off playing with some other Apprentices. And look! We got some reveals!
Page 98
oohhhhhh BANG we get some CONFLICT! Awwwww snap! And we get reveals! Idk if it was super clear, but basically what Snowfang is saying is that Mountain Brother had a power that was basically... it's the Star Wars force, i'm not gonna lie fellas haha that's basically what it is. And kind of what Yinpaw can do! That's finally revealed like geez. Oh, and not only did Mountain Brother move the stones for the Leaders at the Gathering place, but he bored out a lot of the caves in MountainClan camp and he put the like two entryway stones that are in front of the Leader's den where they are today.
EDIT: oh yeah, I guess I should have mentioned: Yinpaw, Yangpaw, and Stonepaw are not at this Gathering. None of them know what is being discussed, they're all at their respective homes
Page 99
And with that, all the members of MountainClan have appeared at least once! The tortie next to Bearheart is actually his mate, Birdspots! I was waiting for a moment to put her in. Also, Browntail's right. Lavenderstar is so cool. And Nightstar and Lavenderstar are kinda low key referencing Nightstar's backstory, which is in the Wait for It Special Episode. Boy do I love building tension and then... dropping it like nothing happened...
Page 100
i can't wait to get out of the night color palette. Anyway, page 100! In the original, there were only 107 pages lol
Page 101
I've been putting a lot of my creative energy into preparing the DND campaign that I'm gonna DM soon, so sorry for the late page, but I've been waiting for the next sequence for a long time and I'm excited to do it. Things are about to POP OFF
Page 102
In the original, Yangpaw got the prophecy on page 41 and it also didn't look this cool. I wanted to try my other program, FireAlpaca for making pages again, so here, have a pretty and shiny page
Page 103
I decided to just have this whole dream sequence in FireAlpaca cause I can do cool effects. But lol Frostwhisker was probably not a character you thought you'd see again! But yeah! She's Yinpaw and Yangpaw's mom, in case you forgot 'cause it's been like two freakin years since she's been here. And just to clarify, the top part of this page is a flashback, the bottom part is a vision.
Page 104
The forums have been kinda quiet lately... I'll try to comment more, to liven it up! Sorry for not being around so much lately! But anyway, goodbye for now FireAlpaca and hour long pages! Hello again to MS Paint and 2+ hour long pages! I do think this cements it though; I was going to do a poll at the end of YY about what program I should do Comic Six in: Paint or FireAlpaca, but I think I'm just gonna do FireAlpaca 'cause... it's just easier, guys. And faster. And prettier.
Page 105
Don't have a whole lot to say about this one...
Page 106
I did the lines and some of the coloring in FireAlpaca just to change it up a bit and also it's a bunch faster. It turns out, when trying to mimic my MS Paint style, lining is great in FA, but shading is not because shading in MS Paint is just the nightmare scenario. In layman's terms, basically every flat color is shaded with its own color, not just one color slapped on its own layer and then adding the Multiply filter, which is what I'd do in FA.
Page 107
We're officially past the original YY page number! The OG comic had 106 pages!
Page 108
The first panel is so so pure. And FINALLY this chapter is OVER. We're at ENDGAME PEOPLE.
Page 109 *slight blood warning*
Hoo boiyse we're gettin INTO it now! I was actually excited/had fun making this page, which hasn't happened for a while... I guess it was mostly talking for a while for the last few chapters. But now we're gonna get ACTION! And like geez, this page has so many characters. I redesigned Sparkpelt and Mistmask, with Sparkpelt getting more orange and Mistmask having lighter colors. And in case you don't recognize that black cat in the fifth panel, he's Jayflight, Yinpaw and Yangpaw's dad, and it makes sense if you don't recognize him since he hasn't been here since page 24
Page 110
Browntail is my favorite character in YY, in case anyone was wondering. And ooh, it's conclusion jumping to time!
Page 111
I do love me a self-indulgent landscape ish page. The only new character I guess, (unless you didn't read the character list on DA for page 72, then the black/brown tom with orange eyes is Salmontail, Stonepaw's mentor), is the black FrozenClan she-cat fighting Bearheart. She's Ebonybone, and her name is an homage to the Great comic artist, Ebonycloud, who was a Legend back on the old forums and one of my inspirations for starting comics. And the grey/white she-cat fighting Whitestep was in the Wait For It Special Episode, she's Coldwing, Fogpaw's mom. Oh and of course it started snowing, for Drama and me making things hard for myself.
Page 112
The Apprentice Beepaw is pinning down is called Spikepaw, because of his spiky fur. And oh look, more kill bill sirens for Yangpaw. Hooooooooo boy
Page 113 ***BLOOD WARNING*** page is under a spoiler because of this
Page 114 *blood warning still*
Yinpaw's mind shuts down a bit in moments of extreme trauma... (and in housekeeping news, I didn't notice that in 113 and 114 I forgot to do the dithering on the edges of shadows like I normally do, but I'm too lazy to do it now. It'll return next page)
Page 115
I like this page. We have some dramatic angles, and I seem to like the pages more when they have less small frames...
Page 116
Halfway through shading I realized this is just like Thor Ragnarok
Page 117
Guess what's coming next page? ~musical number!!!~ a few lines in this page were inspired by adventure zone quotes
Page 118
And we begin our second musical number! Had to stick with songs from Brother Bear, of course. This one's No Way Out (link), and if you listen to the whole thing, there's minor lyrical spoilers, but oh well.
Page 119
I collect landscape pictures that I hope to one day use, and I've had the inspiration picture for the last panel for like a year and I'm so happy I finally get to use it. Anyway, Yangpaw climbs Mt. Aurora. Back to Yinpaw for the second verse next page.
Page 120
Hi I'm Hawk and I don't know how to keep a constant text size. Oh, after this page, there's gonna be a intermission within the song where some more stuff happens, but it'll continue a few pages later.
Page 121
The music is gonna pause for the next few pages while we go back to some dialogue... but it'll start back up again later
Page 122
You know those movies where everything would be solved if two characters just talked to each other but they don't and things just get worse? This isn't one of those movies. Oh yeah and it stopped snowing, I didn't just forget it.
Page 123
Remember how Lavenderstar said how perceptive Yinpaw was and how she had a good soul? Yeah, me too.
Page 124
I very much like the last frame. It's the best aurora I've drawn so far. Music starts back up next page, too. edit: tweaked a bit of dialogue
Page 125
Can you tell I love doing the auroras? Anyway, two more pages of the song, and then there'll be... one more page left! Then there's an epilogue and a Stonepaw Special Episode, so there's still a bit of content left here on YY...
Page 126
Aw yay! (i did afaster different shading for 126 and 127, so that's why there's not my usual pixel dithering, just FYI)
Page 127
wow two pages in one day? it's because there's one. more. page and I want to get to it faster!
Page 128
Sunrises symbolize new beginnings...
EPILOGUE:
________________________________________________________________________________
And with the end of the comic, here comes a Hawktalon, Comic Saga staple: Bloopers, fun facts, and deleted scenes!
(under a spoiler 'cause it's long)
The last Special Episode (the Stonepaw one) is up now!
And... that's it, people. We've reached the end of another comic!
As usual, I of course first and foremost would like to thank you all. You, my fans and readers. I truly, honestly could not have done this without you. Your constant encouragement and reactions and just outpouring of love for what I do and the stories I make gives me so much joy, I can't even describe.
I enjoy so much being a comic artist. It's one of my favorite things, and I think the one single decision I made in my life that has affected me so much. I've been doing this for over eight years now. Which is insane and ridiculous. But without my comics, I think my life and how I live it would be very different, much less my art. I've always said that I think making a comic is one of the best ways for one to improve their art, from the sole virtue of drawing the same thing over and over if nothing else.
Another one of my favorite things about making comics is being an inspiration to you all. I it so much whenever one of you tells me that I inspire you, or if I scroll through a comic and see 'I was inspired by Hawktalon to make a comic!'. It really means so much to me. I'm glad to be an inspiration.
More on the subject of Yin and Yang itself... I don't know what else to say. It was my first comic, back in 2010. I think if my 2010 self could see this finished work now... I don't think she'd believe that we were the same person. I used to so much look up to famous and great legendary comic artists like Ebonycloud but I never thought that I could be as good or as popular as their work, and I think my 2010 self would think that I'd actually become one of them! She would have thought this was impossible. But it is possible! You just have to keep at it and work hard! If I had given up after the original Yin and Yang, I wouldn't be here with the remake, much less three other comics in between. This remake of Yin and Yang truly, more than any of my other comics, shows that through hard work and perseverance, you can achieve your dreams.
So TL;DR, thank You. Thank you for reading. Thank you for supporting me. I hope that you will continue to do so for the next comic!
And speaking of that next comic...
Here comes the cover!

ello friends!

Page 113 ***BLOOD WARNING*** page is under a spoiler because of this
i'm sorry
Page 126
Aw yay! (i did a
Page 127
wow two pages in one day? it's because there's one. more. page and I want to get to it faster!
Page 128
Sunrises symbolize new beginnings...
EPILOGUE:
________________________________________________________________________________
And with the end of the comic, here comes a Hawktalon, Comic Saga staple: Bloopers, fun facts, and deleted scenes!
(under a spoiler 'cause it's long)
-The original comic had a scene with a hawk that would have happened on page 45, but I decided to cut it out for time reasons. As I said on the page note, I included a hawk anyway just as an easter egg.
-A number of characters including Browntail and Lavenderstar weren’t as important in the original comic as they are in the remake.
-If you remember the original as much as I do, there were originally four Clans. The fourth was called GlacierClan and their territory was on a glacier that used to be on the leftmost mountain (in reference to the first page). Their leader was called Hawkstar, and she was a tortishell and basically the design I use to represent Hawktalon as a character. I cut out GlacierClan actually only to go along with the lyrics of Great Spirits in the beginning of the comic. There were only three brothers so I could only have three Clans. Also I didn’t know how to draw glaciers well.
-The line of light that happens for prophecy related things and flashbacks and future/past dreams comes from not only the original comic but is also inspired by the animation that occurs during the Dimensional Scream in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, which is also what the same thing in the original was inspired by.
-Skullstripe originally didn’t have an eye color for some reason. I literally don’t know how it was possible that I could have forgotten to color his eyes every time I drew him back in the day but somehow it happened. I don’t even know if I had a plan for the color originally, but I just made them gold here.
-Speaking of Skullstripe, his ‘tragic backstory’ has changed every time I’ve told it in my comics. Which would be three times counting the original YY. The one in the remade YY is now canon, no exceptions.
-The cave paintings were inspired by me watching a documentary on some prehistoric cave drawings in France. I immediately thought ‘I NEED THAT IN YIN AND YANG’ so it happened.
-Browntail and Lavenderstar’s relationship wasn’t in the original comic, as they weren’t as important characters in the original as they are now.
-There is so much color symbolism its amazing. I used the same plain color background schemes as I did in Skyfall where different colors correspond to different emotions:
-*Yellow for happiness *Orange for curiosity, questioning, figuring something out *Purple is found throughout the comic, corresponding to Yinpaw’s purple eye. She, Yangpaw, and Stonepaw are even shaded with purple *Pink for love and cute things *Red for anger *Grey and slate blue for anger, sadness, hate, heartbrokenness, etc. (though it can also sometimes represent Stonepaw) *Green is just a filler color, though apple green can stand for Browntail *Sky blue is usually filler, but on page 29 with Browntail, sky blue was the color of Fawnspots’ eyes, so it was meant to represent her.
-Many characters got revamped designs. Skullstripe was originally white, not off-white, and as I said earlier, his eyes weren’t gold. Whitestep was all tan with white paws and green eyes instead of turquoise. Rainblade’s design was changed slightly, along with Iceflight and their kits. Stonepaw was originally just light gray with darker paws, but I darkened his ears and tail as well. Nightstar’s sky blue dye markings were actually in the original comic for some reason as like a natural color or something for some reason, so I just made them dye this time around.
-Characters such as Mistmask, Beepaw, Sparkpelt, Bearheart, Lilacflight, Birdspots, and maybe a few more didn’t exist in the original comic.
-Willowbreeze’s original name was Dapplesea, but I’d forgotten that since her name was never said in the original YY. I changed it to Willow because she is (or eventually becomes) Owlwing’s mate, and Owlwing is based off an old character of my brother’s, and his girlfriend is named Willough.
-Some of the cats in the other Clans (other than MountainClan) are recycled from an old Clan that I made when I used to write Warriors fanfictions. I remember literally nothing about them and they were never popular, so I stuck to comics. These include FrozenClan’s Ash-heart, Acornmask, and Grasspelt, and TundraClan’s Skysong and Rosepetal, and Silverstone.
-Ebonybone of FrozenClan’s name was homage to the great comic artist, Ebonycloud.
-FrozenClan has the smallest cats by body size of the three Clans as this was adapted so they could not fall through the ice. If Stonepaw were to have lived, and he and Yinpaw were to grow up more together, Yinpaw would have eventually grown taller than him.
-TundraClan comes into contact with other animals such as moose, reindeer, and wolves much more than the other two Clans. If they’re able to get to a wounded moose or reindeer before the wolves do (or if the wolves for some reason let the cats share) TundraClan gets to eat that meat and they’re fed for a long time. The Clan also knows how to utilize permafrost, burying prey deep underground in the tundra so it stays fresh for longer.
-Fishstar of TundraClan’s name comes from (even though, as Stonepaw says, he has never caught a fish in his life, being from TundraClan) a time in TundraClan where there was no prey to be found. But one day, an eagle dropped its caught fish onto the plains, and the TundraClan Medicine Cat at the time interpreted it as a sign from the Spirits that the prey was returning, and it did. Fishkit was born not long after, and his name was inspired by this event. He had the somewhat unusual Warrior name of Fishflight.
-Lavenderstar’s Warrior name was Lavenderstem, as seen in Special Episode #1. Nightstar’s Warrior name was Nightclaw, as seen in Special Episode #2.
-The gifts Yinpaw and Yangpaw have are actually variants of the Three Brothers’ gifts. Tundra Brother had visions of the past and future; Yangpaw has those, but they’re only in dreams. Mountain Brother had the power to move things without touching them; Yinpaw has the same power, but it’s channeled through her purple eye and is controlled by her emotions. Frozen Brother could walk in the bodies of other cats while they slept; Stonepaw can do the same, but only after he’d died…
-Speaking of Stonepaw, it is implied but never stated implicitly that Stonepaw is a third cat in the prophecy, or at least the third cat to be given one of the Three Brothers’ gifts. As stated above, he has Frozen Brother’s gift. But his variant of it is that he can only possess the bodies of other cats once he’s died. This is what is seen in The Unforgiven.
-What Lavenderstar says to Yinpaw, “never black and white, there’s always gray in the middle” is one of the subtle ways of implying that Stonepaw is part of the prophecy.
-The notes in my script for when Yinpaw goes “AAAARGH” on page 115 was "Yinpaw channels her inner Anakin Skywalker" (aka inspired by the third Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith)
-The Three Brothers made the Yin and Yang pendants out of pieces from each of their own territories: Frozen Brother contributed the white stone from the river, Mountain Brother contributed the black stone from the Great Fallen Star, and Tundra Brother contributed two small black and white stones from the plains.
-Hawkpaw and Thunderpaw’s designs were both revamped in this YY remake. They were also given bigger roles. In the original, Hawkpaw had a crush on Yinpaw, but that was not relevant for the remake, so I took it out.
-Fawnspots’ design was based on the design of Bambi from Disney’s Bambi.
-The entirety of Yin and Yang (at least in the remake) relating to the prophecy revolves around the fact that Browntail tried to prevent the calamity. It’s literally a self-fulfilling prophecy. If Browntail hadn’t tried to fix the calamity herself, by monitoring Yinpaw too closely, not telling her anything, and not realizing that Yangpaw is also part of the prophecy, then the calamity wouldn’t have happened. If she hadn’t suggested to Lavenderstar that Skullstripe should mentor Yinpaw, then Yinpaw wouldn’t have felt outcasted and wouldn’t have met Stonepaw, which, of course, wouldn’t have led to the calamity of, as Browntail calls it, FrozenClan’s revenge.
-Despite this, I still love Browntail. She’s my favorite character in the whole comic. This makes her character interesting, that she’s paranoid and somewhat manipulating, but she does it because she thinks it right. That’s a recurring theme in the comic: someone doing something that they think is right, but it might not turn out or be interpreted by everyone else to be as right as you think. This is stated in Lavenderstar’s story to Yinpaw. She was never written as a villain, or even as an antagonist. She’s just trying to do what is right for her Clan, but she does this through not the best means. In this way she’s kind of like Lucretia from The Adventure Zone: Balance, but I actually wrote Browntail before I started TAZ, so it’s just a coincidence
-Of course, whenever I mention Browntail, I have to talk about Lavenderstar. Her character is one of my favorites as well. I had to write her carefully, because as a Leader, she had to enforce the Warrior Code, but at the same time, her relationship with Browntail is technically against the Warrior Code (in my Code, Medicine Cats can only have kits/a mate if they have a fully trained Apprentice. Browntail doesn’t have an Apprentice and doesn’t get one until the end of The Unforgiven). Anyway, this is why Lavenderstar makes the remarks she does to Yinpaw. About right and wrong and interpretation of the Warrior Code.
-MountainClan names are most often inspired by colors, birds, or plants (though MountainClan also has the most variety and randomness to their naming system)
-FrozenClan names are most often inspired by types of fish or by the water itself
-TundraClan names are most often inspired by animals found on the plains
-The original idea for Yin and Yang came to be from a pretty odd source. That was the pre-release information of the Pokemon Black and White version games. The legendary Pokemon, Reshiram and Zekrom had been leaked before the games’ release and there was speculation about how they fit into the game. One idea was that they represented the concepts of Yin and Yang. I had been thinking about doing a Warriors comic back in the day, and for some reason, that bit of information sparked the idea that grew into Yin and Yang the comic.
-The original idea for the MountainClan camp, even before the original YY was that it would look a bit like how the Tribe of Rushing Water’s camp was described in the books.
-Another scrapped idea for the original YY was that Yangpaw would be deaf? Because of the whole white cat with blue eyes thing. It never got past the planning stage.
-Yinpaw and Yangpaw originally didn’t have the white and black head fur, respectively. Their only spot of the opposite color they had was the one on their eyes. But I was getting people to draw them for me, before the original comic had started, and someone misinterpreted my description and swapped the colors. For some reason, I decided to stick with it, and it’s been that way ever since. It would look weird to draw them how they were originally planned to look now.
-Nightstar’s backstory was inspired by the backstory of the character Ripred in Suzanne Collins’ The Underland Chronicles
-an early kind of foreshadowing that Yinpaw had Mountain Brother’s gift was on page 65. Yinpaw is in the same pose as Mountain Brother is shown in on page 9.
-the original inspiration for Yinpaw’s purple eye came from Ebonycloud’s comic The New Clans, inspired by her character, Tigerlily
-Skullstripe becomes an Elder early. His vision starts to leave him (my retconned way of explaining his grey eyes in The Unforgiven) and he’s made to retire
-I also think Yangspirit's Warrior name is unique, and her suffix is rare among my Clans (even though I made her name before I put any mention of Spirits in the comic), and Lavenderstar decided to give it to her not only because of her indomitable spirit, but also because of her role in bringing back the Spirits (and it also is related to Yinsoul's suffix)
-Yin and Yang was never written as a love story, even with the original. It’s a different kind of story that just happens to have a romantic subplot. I often said to myself that Broken Wings was my only love story, and I stick by that. YY is a story about family and sisterhood, and also the blurred lines between right and wrong.

Here comes the cover!
as soon as I make a thread for it, I'll put it here! IT'S UP! START HERE: link
