(Thank you! XD Anyone want to role-play?) Lightpaw hovered in the entrance to the apprentices den, her pale blue eyes flicking uncertainly around camp. She wanted to go out of the camp, but she felt it wouldn't be proper to just get up and leave without telling anyone. Her mentor could come looking for her at any moment, and if she was gone… well- that wouldn't be too good. She tried to groom down a loose piece of fur on her shoulder, but to no avail. Swallowing, she winced at the roughness of her throat and opened and closed her mouth several times. It would be nice to get a drink from the snow melt pools… If they were still there... --- Mothtail's paws hit hard earth, and the squirrel darted away. With a low growl, the tom chased after it over a short stretch of grass and halfway up a tree. At that point, Mothtail's hind paws slipped, giving the dratted squirrel the opportunity to escape. "Mouse dung!" Mothtail breathed from his perilous position. His left fore claws were buried into a thick branch, while his right fore claws were on a higher but less sturdy branch base. He scratched at the bark below him with his hind claws in attempt to get a boost. Suddenly the little branch snapped, and his left claws tore free from their grip. With a yowl, he plunged into a bramble bush. There was a few moments of silence before Mothtail burst out of the bush, muttering and shaking his pelt violently, covered in loose brambles and with shallow cuts from its barbs. One of his claws was bleeding, but not quite torn out. "I hate trees, and I hate squirrels!" he yelled at the now quiet forest. |

Ebonypaw and Hollowpaw walked over. Hollowpaw said "Hey Lightpaw! You wanna come with us to the river?" his head tilted slightly to the side as he asked this. Ebonypaw, ever the silent cat, simply watched. He huffed slightly at his brothers antics, but there was a fondness in his eyes.

Lightpaw saw two cats coming towards her, and felt her breathing pick up speed. It was the twins, Hollowpaw and Ebonypaw. "Are you c- certain that nobody would mind?" she responded nervously. She wanted to go, but what if… No. It would be fine to simply go to the river, right? Licking her lips and swallowing, Lightpaw nodded. "I- I'll come."

"Great! Every cat is thirsty do no one will mind. We already told a warrior we were heading out. They said we could go, but only to the closest source." he turned and Ebonypaw and the other apprentice followed him. Outside the camp they had some shelter from the sun, but you could basically taste the dryness in the air.

Lightpaw hesitated only a moment before rushing after them. It would be fine… It would be fine… The words echoed in her head over and over again until they exited camp, where she relaxed slightly. A smaller group; less chance of messing up. Good. "I wonder how low the river is now," she murmured, remembering how low it had been the last time she was there. "What would we do if it all- If it all disappeared?" The reddish-cream apprentice shivered at the thought.

"I'm sure it will be fine." Hollowpaw meowed, looking over his shoulder at the she-cat. He tried for a reassuring grin and continued "It has been too long without rain, so it should rain any time soon. Right?" his brother on the other hand didn't look so sure, but he only watched them talk for a moment before he returned to walking.

Lightpaw sighed softly as she trailed the two apprentices, wishing for the familiar feel of the dew laden grasses. "The prey is being affected too… If it's going to rain it should rain soon, before it's too late..." she murmured, more to herself than the others. Risking a peek at Ebonypaw, she wondered for a fleeting moment if his silence meant he was upset with her. Maybe he simply thought she was a nobody… If so, good. It seemed to be the only way she could keep from making any major mistakes. And yet… Did she really think that?

Hollowpaw hummed, looking to the sky and frowning a bit when there wasn't a single cloud in the sky. Ebonypaw followed his brothers gaze and then sniffed the air "It doesn't smell like rain." he eventually said, sounding a bit disappointed.

"But where would we move on to? This has always been our home. Always been.. MintClan," Lightpaw argued softly, fear lacing her voice. She stumbled on a root, as her thoughts began to spin, but recovered quickly and sped her pace to catch up. Completely against her luck, her left paw slipped into a hole and her forward momentum tossed her into the two apprentices in front of her. To add to her embarrassment, they were right on the top of a slope, and she tumbled clumsily down to the bottom, where she came to a stop in front of a large oak tree.

The two toms yelped in surprise. Hollowpaw rolled to the side as she tumbled down the hill, but cut off his brothers escape route at the same time. It felt like it happened in slow motion, Hollowpaw moved as Ebonypaw tried to jump forwards as well. His brothers eyes widened then he was dragged down the hill as well. Hollowpaw laughed as he ran down the hill "Are you guys ok?" he asked, short of breath with a wide smile on his muzzle.

The little apprentice lifted her head, but her ears were laid back. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to- I just- I... I'm sorry," Lightpaw apologized repeatedly, hanging her head guiltily. "You shouldn't have even brought me along... All I ever do is ruin everything," she murmured, not even trying to get up from where she lay. Her usually pristine pelt was covered in dirt and wilted leaves.

Ebonypaw rolled his eyes and nudged her with his nose "You know that's not true. If you weren't worried all the time you wouldn't be so clumsy. The clan needs every cat." Hollowpaw watched Ebonypaw, slightly surprised. It wasn't every day his brother offered kind words.

(Sorry if my roleplaying is a little off. I'm still getting accustomed to this character. I have a feeling that she is going to have lots of highs and lows… Probably mostly lows. Then again, her personality can still change over time… XD)
"Sorry Hollowpaw…" Lightpaw responded, without realizing that she was actually talking to Ebonypaw due to their similar appearance. "Your right." Taking in a breath, she pushed herself to her paws. Her front left paw was sore from twisting in the hole, but to her relief, it didn't feel like it was broken. Although she had agreed with Ebonypaw, she felt her doubts. However, the more she thought about it, her excitement began to grow. What if simply by will, she could stop worrying about what she did? She inhaled deeply, and exhaled. "I don't think the lake is that far now. We should get going before they wonder where we've gone," she told the two toms, only a few moments after standing. Her first step was uncertain, but it smoothed out as she took a few more. Well, as smooth as it could be with a slight limp. She prayed to StarClan that she was going the right way, and glanced behind her.

It's good! I like Lightpaw as a character so far. She'll be open to a lot of development. Sorry for poofing.)
Hollowpaw and Ebonypaw exchanged a look and shrugged. They followed the she-cat up the hill. The closest water source was a large but shallow river that led to a lake. It took maybe five minutes but they finally reached it. The water was dangerously low, there were pools, but you could start to see the pools separating. Only a trickle of water between them.

Lightpaw nearly stumbled once she saw the state of the river. "It's getting smaller…" she whispered. Slowly, almost reverently, she picked her way over ground once covered with water. Dipping her head, she lapped up a few drops, feeling a few drops drip off her chin when she lifted her head. "We have to do something about this."
