(The grass reaches over even the tallest cat right now. I'm guessing that Lizardpaw isn't as tall as Smokepelt haha so he will be about half the size of the grass as it gets very long at this time of year, during leaf-bear he would be taller though)
Smokepelt stared down at his apprentice and said in a strong voice "You will start your assessment here" he announced "you will then follow your own path towards the stream. Try and catch as much prey as you can, although I would like to assess your fishing skills the most at this time" he hinted at Lizardpaw, hoping he would understand that he should focus on fishing above all else. Nodding to his apprentice, Smokepelt turned and, without facing Lizardpaw, added "oh, and also..." he paused "I'll be watching you from a distance to check in on you". Smokepelt stalked away and was engulfed by the tall grass. He crouched down and waited for Lizardpaw to start his assessment.
Darkkit shook her head nervously "are you sure that's a good idea?" she asked quietly. Since her father had stopped coming to visit her and her siblings, Darkkit had been scared of everything. She folded her ears downwards and took a step towards Tallkit's voice. She flicked his pelt with her stubby, short, tail and crouched next to him.

"No, I merely came to see if you'd like some company," Swiftflight responded, coming fully into the den and sitting by the entrance. "I saw you leave earlier by yourself. You know you shouldn't be doing that. It's dangerous to not have at least one warrior with you," he commented, his eyes drifting down to the mouse at the she-cat's paws. "Nice catch."
Alright, thanks. It always helps to know so I can RP stuff better :3)
Lizardpaw nodded to his mentor, taking in each and every word spoken to him. So fishing was top priority, he understood that. However, that caused a small pang of anxiety to pluck at his chest. Fishing was not his strong suit, as he was not at all fond of water. Watching Smokepelt leave, he hoped prey would be evident enough on his journey to the river so that if he did mess up with fishing, at least he could say he could hunt on dry land just fine, hopefully.
Turning in the direction he thought the river to be, the brown and black tabby padded off, pushing his way through the towering grasses. He kept his ears perked up and forward, listening for any sound of running water, and he'd stop occasionally to sniff the air and ground, wanting to pick up any sign of near by prey. It wasn't too long before the scent of a field mouse caught his nose as he sniffed along the base of the stalks. He pricked his ears and opened his jaws, trying to better locate the small creature to be his catch.
Slowly, he stalked forward, crouching down low to the ground to the point where his belly fur just barely lifted off the ground. The mouse shuffled between grasses not far at all from the cat, and soon eyes were on it. One more step, and then pounce. The mouse fell still with one final squeak, and Lizardpaw held up his catch proudly in his jaws. he glanced around, wondering where Smokepelt could be to see him in all this mess of grass but still be invisible to his apprentice. He gave a shrug to himself and set off back towards the river, carrying the mouse; if he left it in the grass where he'd caught it, it surely wouldn't be found fresh again.

Cloudfoot looked up from her work, glad of the company she said "nice of you come, do you want to help?" ignoring the warriors comment on her going out by herself, she was capable of looking after herself. A lot of the Warriors didn't realize she spent a lot of her free time hunting and running through the meadows she loved the outdoors but she could never give up the life of a medicine cat. "thanks" she replied to swift paw's comment on her mouse.

As he, silently, followed Lizardpaw, Smokepelt noticed how well his apprentice had improved. He was certainly becoming a lot quieter, which was essential when living in a meadow with little cover. Smokepelt crept forward, slow enough to keep behind Lizardpaw, but close enough to see his apprentices progress. Sitting down, Smokepelt saw Lizardpaw catch a scent. He guessed that it was the squirrel that he had scented moments before, and was surprised to see Lizardpaw emerge with a field mouse between his teeth, he was becoming an excellent tracker he pointed out to himself.
Smokepelt went ahead, making sure he kept low, once again. He reached the edge of the long grass that lead up to the small stream and sat down, his legs beginning to ache. Rasping his course tongue over his paw, he alleged his ears to listen out for Lizardpaw. He would be able to detect when the apprentice made a kill, but also know whether to leave if he got too close.
Over his life time, Smokepelt had trained his ears to be able to hear far and wide. He needed that skill in order to detect prey and cats through the long grass that dominated their territory. Sometimes using eyes wasn't the correct answer for the situation at hand.

Tallkit urged darkkit to join him as he pushed him way out of the nursery squealing a the bright warm sunlight hit, he stepped back surprised, waiting for his sister to come and help guide him. he trained his ears on the many sounds and noises in the air. scents washed over him and the air and space around him felt fresher. if only he could see it all he thought sadly.

Tallkit was shocked at how old his sister sounded but it was soon forgotten when a lump of mos hit him on the head! he pounced on the piece of moss and flicked it his sister yowling "a loner is stealing our prey, attack!" he leaped towards darkkit bowling her over. He crouched listening hard for the faintest give away at his sisters location, his ears pricked he waggled his tail excited to be in the open air!

Stormstar leapt down from the oak tree, claws unsheathed at the mention of a loner stealing prey, but after noticing that it was just the kits messing around, he sighed and smiled. Sitting down, he curled his tail over his paws and watched his younger brother and sister play.
Darkkit yowled, pitifully, and batted at her brother's ears, using his blindness to her advantage. She skirted, clumsily, around him and jumped on his back. She mewed in triumph only to fall off as she lost her balance. She fell with a thud to the ground, stood up, and shook herself. Regaining her bearings, she sprang into the air towards Tallkit.

Tallkit was confused at first and felt his sister topple him but quickly regained his balance. He heard the air move as she raced towards he quickly jumped away hearing the thud as she landed and pounced on her back, rolling her over but not before reclaiming the moss as his own. he jumped away giggling with laughter.

"I'll help," Swiftflight answered and gave a curt nod as well. He stepped closer then sat down by her. "What do you want me to do exactly?" he wasn't at all familiar with the procedures a medicine cat conducted. he also didn't want to just assume his role and end up messing things up for the busy she-cat. After all, everyone had their own system.
Lizardpaw continued padding quietly forward. Stealth was something he had definitely improved on in his time, but he had only his mentor to thank. As he walked, he noticed that he really wasn't hearing the running water ahead of him anymore. He frowned mentally and strained his ears, but over the sudden uproar of bird song, he could not hear what he wanted. I must have gotten turned around while catching the prey. A bit of panic started to set in. what direction was he even facing anymore? that was the problem, with all this long grass - it all looked the same. He glanced over his shoulder behind him, but the grass hadn't even stayed down when parted for his path, as he had tried to tread carefully and quietly.
How was he supposed to find the stream now? If he didn't find soon he'd fail his first assessment! The tom strained his ears again but still the birds drowned out most other noises. Hoping this next plan would work, he sat down the mouse and opened his jaws, taking int he scents of the air, hoping to detect the distinct scent of moisture on the breeze, but the mouse's aroma clouded that all, too. His sense were failing him in this situation, all because of the environment around him. I need to find it! Think, think, think... He spun around in circles, desperately listening for the water or really any sign of the stream, but there was nothing. Lizardpaw looked to the sky, silently praying to StarClan to help him, just a little bit. I can't fail...
Suddenly, an idea popped into his head as his eyes gazed up at the sky, the long grasses sweeping gently in the edges of his vision. A small spark of hope flared up inside his chest, and he bunched his muscles. Then, he jumped. he launched himself up in the air, his head easily clearing the grasses. Suddenly, the meadow was much smaller, and he could see where the grass parted to make way for the water after only a few leaps. The apprentice scooped up the mouse again and padded quickly in the direction of the stream. What he had done wasn't the most stealthy way of going about finding his desired destination, but all the prey near enough to him would have been scared away by his panicked circles anyway. Oh well. At least he wasn't being assessed on his land hunting skills. However, when he actually had arrived at the river, his heart sank slowly again. That's right, he'd have to be fishing...

Smokepelt sat patiently waiting for Lizardpaw to arrive. He had learned to be patient with apprentices around New-Leaf and Green-Leaf. The grass was so long that only experienced warriors really knew the whole territory. He was startled to see Lizardpaw's head appear over the top of the grass, but chuckled to himself, remembering that that was what he had done on his first assessment. The grass here was long, he couldn't argue with that, but if a cat can learn to use ALL his senses at once... the navigating becomes much more simple.
He hadn't detected another kill yet and hoped that Lizardpaw would be able to catch a fish or before sundown, or it would get extremely hard to see the sleek, silver scales of the fast swimmers. Smokepelt began to reminisce his first hunting trip in which he had fallen in the stream whilst trying to catch his first fish, he had been extremely embarrassed when Brambleheart had had to grab him by the scruff and pull him out of the water. As Lizardpaw neared, Smokepelt decided to back away to make sure he was out of sight. the slightest quiver in the grass showed him that Lizardpaw had taken the same path as him down to the river, therefore he had no choice but to move from his hiding place.

Lizardpaw set the mouse down on the water's edge once he came to it. Smokepelt's scent was strong enough here to smell it over the mouse easily, so he knew his mentor was around and watching. No pressure, right? The apprentice took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly, leaning over the bank and peering into the water. His reflection rippled and morphed right in front of his face, but when he looked past it he saw the silvery gleam of fish down below. He had to admit, they looked so graceful in the water, gliding through it like it was nothing. But, there was no time for that now.
The tom situated himself firmly on the bank and stretched out a paw, keeping it hovered just above the water. Patiently, he waited. It was a good while before a fish actually came close enough for his to even get a chance at striking at it, but he took that chance and shot out a paw. His claws dug into its slippery side and the tom flung it from the water. however, it was a rather big fish for its kind, and instead of going on the bank like intended, Lizardpaw messed up with throwing it, so it simply flew in the air a little ways then plopped right back down into the water, leaving only a face full of splash water for the devastated apprentice. Embarrassment prickled at his pelt as water dripped from his whiskers.

Darkfang ☾ , kind of it was something to do with tall it regaining sight as an apprentice, lightningpad was given some, there were three parts, / for our kits and one for vivi's) Cloudfoot smiled " get a couple of balls of moss from over there" she pointed her tail in the direction needed " I need them to soak up the mouse bile" car fully she pulled out the mouses stomach with one claw and nipped it to remove it from the rest. Dropping it onto a dock leaf she asked swiftflight to help her collect the mouse lie by soaking the moss in it "So how's the last couple of sunrises been for you?"

Swiftflight gave a nod of acknowledgement and retrieved the moss Cloudfoot asked for. He set the two wads by her paws and watched as she removed the stomach. "The same," he replied with an added shrug of his shoulders. "I've been thinking how sad it is how the clan has shrunk. I don't like how we've lost so many to greencough this leafbare." He paused. "At least we didn't lose you."
Lizardpaw's pelt grew hot, knowing his mentor had witnessed his blunder, and irritation sparked from his now soaked face. He hated water so much! It especially wasn't great since he had a longer pelt, which only trapped more of it and took longer to dry out.
Not expecting his mentor to actually reveal himself, the apprentice jumped at the touch on his pelt. He was even too focused on being embarrassed and upset that he hadn't noticed the quiet pawsteps coming towards him. Swiftly, he whipped his head around to meet his mentor's gaze. Lizardpaw almost spoke but shut his mouth when Smokepelt got to it first. instead, he listened silently, giving a nod of understanding at the end, but he blinked in slight confusion. "Aren't you not allowed to help me on my assessments?" he inquired.

"It was a great loss we have suffered but things are looking up with the kits and lizard paw doing well in his training" she took the moss fro swiftflight's paws and let it soak up all the mouse bile before wrapping it up in extra dock leaf. putting the small leaf wraps in the back corner of her herb stores. she picked up the dead mouse and with a muffled voice said "i'm taking this to Vivi and her kits, you can come along if you want i'm going to go for a short run in the meadows, there's not much going on today" she pushed out of the hedge in to the open air and padded a few steps in the direction of the nursery before turning round to see if he was following her.

Swiftflight did indeed follow, not having much else to do. Besides, he still didn't want Cloudfoot going out of camp on her own. He knew the dangers of the outside world all too well, and he learned at a young age on several different occasions. The tom cast a quick glance back at his half of a tail, pausing in his steps just before exiting the medicine den, and narrowed his eyes. That had been one of the worst occasions, the one that took part of him away forever.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he proceeded after his clanmate, coming to pad beside her. "I'll come along," he told her with a new seriousness in his voice. He would be sure to protect her out there, so she would not have to suffer the same fate as him. it was the duties of a warrior, after all.

cloudfoot smiled at the warrior sudden change of tone, it was as if in a split second he had become more of the serous responsible cat he usually was. quickly she dipped into the nursery careful not to vivi as she slept. after a brief glance round she spotted two of the kits playing near the fresh-kill pile. She remembered the fateful day on which they had been born and the loss of lightningpad that had almost crippled smokepelt but all that was in the past now, they had recovered. She padded out of camp before turning to swiftflight, "how about we go to the wheat fields? they'll be plenty of prey"

"That sounds fine," Swiftflight agreed, now very happy he was going with her if she had planned to got that far away from camp in the first place. He was aware medicine cats had to learn some battle training, but strength were always in numbers. So, regardless of her being a medicine cat or not, it was better he went with her. And, he wanted to. It could be fun, right?
He padded beside her, eyes forward but mind already wandering to random thoughts of prey, Cloudfoot, and other things that just happened to come across his train of thought. "How much do you think we'll be able to catch?" he inquired, breaking the silence that had befallen them.

It's okay :3)
Swiftflight had to think a moment. Was he feeling up to a race right now? He had to admit he wasn't feeling particularly playful at the moment, but what the heck? Cloudfoot wanted to run, and he'd easily be able to stay by her side with his slender body and longer legs. As long as they could stay together, it'd be fine. Maybe he'd even let her win, because why not? Winning didn't have any special appeal to the tom.
"Go," he meowed then took off. Maybe he'd let her win and stay close, but that didn't mean he'd let it seem like he was going easy on her. Where was the fun in that?

Lizardpaw honestly didn't know how to feel about getting help from his mentor right now. usually it would be no big deal, but now... But it didn't matter anymore, as the advice had already been given to him, and he was a little grateful for it. Quietly, he watched Smokepelt disappear again, then turned back to the water. The fish still swam so peacefully when he looked down into the crystal waters. It was as if to them they were in peace, totally unaware of the predator right above their scaly heads.
He took a deep breath and exhaled, clearing his mind so as to focus on the task at paw, and not cheating or embarrassment from his first failed attempt. Time passed, but finally he swung a paw, catching a smaller fish on his claws. remembering what Smokepelt said, he yanked it inwardly to his body with one swift motion. The fish landed on the back beside him, flopping madly. After getting hit with its tail a few times in the face, the apprentice managed to kill it with a bite. it was sloppy work, but he'd gotten the prey nonetheless. He did this again several more times, but failed another two. In total, by the time the assessment was over, he'd caught two small fish and his field mouse. It wasn't horrible work, but he definitely could have done better.
Swiftflight quite easily stayed ahead of her, but he did fall back a little to stay by her side, and then even fall behind a little, just enough so his nose was in line with her haunches. He knew full well he could easily outrun the medicine cat, as running was his greatest strength - though actual strength was not - but there was no fun in that. In fact, it would probably be pretty obvious he let her, or any cat win at a race. If they were sparring, now that would be an entirely different story. he wondered how much Cloudfoot actually knew about fighting. he'd never seen her fight before, or never really took notice before. It was something to ask later, perhaps. For now, he ever so slightly jokingly meowed, "Hey, slow down speedy paws!"

cloud foot knew the warrior was slowing down for her, his name was swiftflight, swift-flight. But she didn't care, suddenly a rabbit shot out of a thorn bush she gave chase trying to cut of the creature, she watched as it came round in a cure and she head towards it, putting on an extra burst of speed. she felt her muscles bunch as she lept as far as possible for her weak muscles. Unfortunately she fell short and the rabbit pelted away.
Tallkit bounded back towards their den where a new smell wafted in the air, he had to be careful he didn't bump into anything and his blue sightless eyes searched the path in unison with his ears and nose.
