"That's very kind of you Shellpaw!", Copperfeather purred, blinking gratefully at the apprentice. She began to groom Gorsekit carefully, stroking her tongue over his smooth, soft yellow kit fur. "It's time for you to wake up soon!", the dame whispered to her son, shifting in her warm nest.

"Any time. I am happy to help" Shellpaw purrs to the two dames. "It's going great! I learned how to do a belly rake!"
She carefully moves all the dirty bedding to the side and replaces it, "Quickflame is a good mentor" she leaves the rest of the clean bundle next to Copperfeather, "Dapplepelt, I see that Lionkit is very excited to start training" she chuckles.

"he will, and he is very excited too." At least there was one eager Shaman Neo.. she throws a glance over her shoulder. Somedays Sharkpaw was nothing but eager, sometimes despondent, and Sunpaw certainly hadn't been the most.. motivated in his training, even if it seemed to be changing now.
"His mentor will be a good one, you won't have anything to worry about!"

Tidepaw sat sprawled out on the beach sand, warming her fur and watching the gulls circle playfully overhead.

Dapplepelt mewed in agreement, pride and joy lighting up her eyes. But before she could reply, Vinekit and Lionkit raced into the den. Vinekit had a tan feather and a piece of grass. His eyes filled with disappointment as he noticed that Lionkit had all the items required in the game. A tan feather, tiny stone, and a piece of grass. Lionkit strutted as he realized he had won the game but stopped when he noticed the younger kits sadness. "Here Vinekit, take my stone," he meowed and nuzzled the stone over to the kit.
Vinekit squealed happily and took the items over to Dapplepelt. "Thank you, Lionkit!" he mewed.
Dapplepelt purred and licked Vinekit and Lionkit's head. "You win, Vinekit! Congratulations! That was nice of you as well, Lionkit. But make sure you two stay out of Shellpaw's way. We don't want to mess up the fresh nests."

"I'd love to play with you sometime" shellpaw laughs, "That way both of us can give Lionkit a run around, okay Vinekit? But for now, I got to get going. A patrol will be going out!"

"I promise it, Lionkit. If you wanted someone older to play with... You could always wake up Sunpaw." Her grin is mischevious, "He sleeps a lot." She clears the rest of the bedding, "Good bye! I'll visit later to play" she promises, and trots out to dispose of the dirty bedding.

(Yikes, Looks like everyone and their mother posted while I was gone lol. I'll do my best to catch up here..)
Willowkit wandered around camp, sniffing at the blades of grass which cropped up every few foxlengths in the sand, and looking around and under rocks to find the scuttling creatures underneath. When it was obvious to her that Lionkit had outmatched her and her brother, she had abandoned the game, choosing to do a little bit of exploration around the camp instead. Sniffing curiously, she moved around a group of fronds, trotting into a den which was much stuffier with the smell of cats. Maybe this is the Neos den! she thought excitedly, poking around carefully, as to not wake the slumbering Sunpaw.
------
Softwing yawned, looking around camp as she waited for Shellpaw to reappear from the dames den. Aspenfur was nowhere to be found, and she felt a pang of disappointment at not being able to invite him on the hunting patrol. Tidepaw as well was nowhere to be seen and she wondered briefly if she might be lounging out in the sand like she sometimes did. Softwing kicked herself mentally, thinking no wonder my apprentice can never be found! Maybe if I had woken her up for training first thing this morning instead of going to watch the birds, she might be here now, ready to go on the patrol... Trying to think positively, she considered the idea that they would possibly run into her while they were out, and be able to take her with them. Feeling more optimistic, she scanned the camp, wondering if any other cats might join.
-----
Talongrasp dipped her head at Sharkpaw as he approached "Good morning Sharkpaw. Are you ready to start your training for the day?" She asked, her somber old eyes peering down at him. Things had been going... somewhat well, lately. He had a good memory, but sometimes he seemed unhappy with his decision, which troubled her. Maybe today they might take a break from memorization and do something a little more interesting.

Willowkit poked her head up, hissing at Lionkit "Hey! What are you doing! Do you want him to wake up?!" What was Lionkit thinking? At least she was trying to be careful! And here he was, about to blow her cover! She wiggled her haunches and sprang forward, bouncing over the rises of the dens over to the other kit. Mustering all of her strength, she bowled into him, trying to push him away from Sunpaw. Unfortunately for her, she weighed not much less than a juicy mouse, and her body slumped up against his superior bulk, deflating her ego instantly.
Sunpaw groaned in his nest, his ears flicking irritably as he tried to stay asleep.

"...Tidepaw?" Aspenfur calls out as he passes through the grass. He was making his way back, his fish was heavy at his paws, but had spotted Softwings apprentice lounging, "What are you doing out here all alone...? Don't you know waves could sweep you up- or the gulls could swoop down- or an eagle-" he cuts his ramble short- most cats didn't think about things like that normally. "..a-ah. or is...Softwing nearby?" He tried not to seem eager- or anxious- he wasn't quite sure what he was feeling. ✨ Տեმɾ✨~~~ "Thank you Dapplepelt!" Shellpaw calls over her shoulder. She dumps the dirty moss and then rushes back to Softwing and Quickflame, "I'm ready!" ~~~ "I'm ready Talongrasp." He prods at the ground, "I am sorry..for snapping yesterday. I knew it... I knew I knew it too.." he sighs, but quickly picks himself up and looks at her attentatively, "I'm ready for today though!"

Willowkit's fur stood on end, excited once more. "Oh, yeah, you're right! But... what could he show us? I don't know if that interested in herbs.." Willowkit admitted. Sunpaw let out a groan, his heavy orange pointed face looking sleepily over at the kits. "Yeah, and I don't know if I'm that interested in listening to you two mewl right next to my ear." He grumbled, getting up and shaking the moss out of his fur. Willowkit ducked down, avoiding a tuft of moss which fell next to her "Hey, watch where you're throwing that stuff!" she mewed indignantly, her cute little eyes scowling up at the Neo in an attempt to be menacing. Sunpaw twitched his whiskers in amusement "Sorry" he purred, then turned his head to Lionkit "What's this about you wanting me to teach you stuff? I'm a little young to be a mentor you know" he yawned, scratching behind his ear lazily.
-----
Talongrasp bends her head down, trying not to look too sympathetic as to embarrass Sharkpaw. She didn't want him to think she pitied him- that would ruin whatever self confidence he had. Instead, she nodded, as if accepting his apology as satisfactory. "Today I think it's time I passed down some of the lore and knowledge that I have been given as Tui. Most Shaman Neos spend at least a little bit of time with me, learning what I know about the Ancestors, but you'll get the upper hand with being able to hang around my old bones all the time" she purred, standing with a noticeable crack. "Come. Let us head down to the waterside. I want to show you some things there"
-----
Softwing nods, searching around camp once last time. Most everyone seemed to already be busy or out doing something. She guessed it would just be a small patrol this time around. She turned to look at Quickflame, gesturing slightly to Shellpaw "Is there anywhere in particular you'd like her to practice her hunting? I really have no preference. Prey has been running well as of late" she meowed, not wanting to take charge but also not wanting to seem lazy.

(EDIT: It occurs to me I never posted my expanded description for Willowkit lol. Here goes)
[Willowkit] [Female] [1 Moon] [CinnamonRoll] A tortoiseshell she-cat, mostly white with small orange and black patches. She has pale green eyes and one of her eyes has a large black patch of fur surrounding it. She is a lively kit, always getting up to mischief and poking her nose where it shouldn't go. She dreams of being the best fighter in the clan, and will often be seen around camp running into her denmates and pouncing on small bugs. She doesn't really understand how to stop and smell the flowers, though, and this can often lead her into trouble.
Sunpaw rolled his eyes up towards the top of the den, thinking very carefully. What was something he would have liked to know about being a Shaman before he made his decision? It didn't seem like this kit was very indecisive, so it's not like he was asking for life advice or anything like that... "Well... I guess the best advice I can give you is to always listen. I know that might seem silly, but I learn more by listening and watching cats than I ever would by just letting one of the Shamans chew my ear off all day about what herbs are best for bellyache." Sunpaw meowed, thinking carefully. "Sometimes your tribemate doesn't have a bellyache at all. They're just sad because of an argument that they had with another cat, which is making their belly hurt, and they really just need someone to talk to" he yawned, shifting more comfortably in his nest.
Willowpaw wrinkled her nose "Is that what shamans do all day? Lay around and watch cats? That sounds really boring" she meowed, not really understanding. She wanted to learn to protect her clanmates, with tooth and claw! If someone said something mean to one of her friends, she wouldn't sit around talking about it, she'd just go claw that other cat's ear off!

"There is more to it. The lives and well-being of each and every one of the cats in the tribe depends on the actions of the shamans. Who is going to patch you up when you hurt yourself fighting, Willowkit?" Sunpaw pointed out, eyeing the little kit. She wasn't annoying him, per say, he was just growing very tired around her energy. "Besides, who do you think helped your mom bring you into this world? You don't really think she did it all by herself, do you?"
Willowkit's eyes grew wide. Now that she thought about it, she supposed Sunpaw's scent did seem a little familiar.. was he there when she was born? Shaking her head, she tried to remain adamant "My mom is the strongest, prettiest cat in the whole clan. She doesn't need help from anyone!" she squeaked proudly, raising her nose up.
Sunpaw shook his head, chuckling lowly. He turned his gaze over to Lionkit, who was still looking a little subdued at Willowkit's comments. "Don't worry, being a shaman beats running around with these claw-happy cats any day"

"I'm okay!" Cherrykit mews, licking the blood off the side of her mouth, and picks up the bundle more carefully, making sure not to get poked again, and puts it in the aloe pile. She picks up some more, and places that in the pile too.

"you shouldn't talk about yourself like that" Sharkpaw grumbles, "I enjoy spending time with you Talongrasp, so, they should be jealous that I get to spend so much time with you!" He nods his head.
"More lore?" He blinks owlishly, hadn't he heard it all as a kit? "Do you perhaps want something for your joints before you go?" He has flinched at the crack of her bones.

Sunpaw flicked his tail- it sure was a good thing that the kits were so small, with so many of them now crowding into the den. "Hello Vinekit" Sunpaw meowed, resting his head on his paws as he laid in his nest, so that his face was more level with the smaller cats. "Boy, you all must be pretty bored today to crowd into my den looking for entertainment. What do you all want, a story?"
Willowkit tilted her head to the side. A story? "What kind of story?" she asked cautiously. Her mom sometimes told stories to her and her siblings, and she liked that, but would Sunpaw's stories be boring tales about laying around in camp? She wasn't sure if she was interested.
------ "ohohoho! Sharkpaw, you flatter me" Talongrasp laughs, looking down at him affectionately. "True, there will be some things that you will have an advantage on, being my Neo, but don't let that go to your head." There was a bite of warning in her tone. It was true that she thought he had potential, but it would be spoiled if he was lead to believe that he was somehow better than the other Neos simply because he was her apprentice. She would give him no special treatment, and assert that no other cat did either. He was a Neo, first and foremost, regardless of his mentor. "That's kind of you Sharkpaw, but I'm not sick, I'm just older than dirt. There's no herbs that will help me manage any more than I already do" she meowed, her eyes sparkling with humor. At a casual pace, she leads him out of the camp, down towards where the water line lay. "True, all kits are told stories by their mothers as they grow, but only Shamans are passed down the knowledge of spiritual communication through the generations. Guards learn other skills to serve their tribe, and thus they rely on us to be the mouthpiece for the ancestors in times of trouble. We may not learn to fight as well or know the nuances of the perfect hunt, but when the wind blows we know how to hear it's whispers, and we can hear even the smallest voice over the crash of the waves on the shore."

Willowkit shrugged, trying to hide her intererst. She didn't want to prove Sunpaw right, that he might have some interesting stuff to talk about, but she also really wanted to hear whatever story he had.
Sunpaw cleared his throat, looking down at the kits. "Did you all know that once Foxes and Cats used to live together? Not always did we fear and fight with them, as we do now" He began, looking out at the kits.
"In the beginning, Foxes and Cats were each given their own strengths by the Ancestors. They would use these gifts together, living in peace with the other strong animals of the world, hunting prey as they needed and enjoying their freedom together. Once a Cat and a Fox were traveling together. As they went along, hunting on the way—a stray mouse here, a fat chicken there—they began an argument between bites, feeling bored with their journey. And, as usually happens when comrades argue, the talk began to get personal.
"You think you are extremely clever, don't you?" said the Fox. "Do you pretend to know more than I? Why, I know a whole sackful of tricks!"
"Well," retorted the Cat, "I admit I know one trick only, but that one, let me tell you, is worth a thousand of yours!"
Just then, close by, an unusual noise. The fabled creatures of old, upwalkers, had found them and began to hunt them down. Their feet thundered towards them- an ugly sight to behold, with their furless bodies walking on two legs.
"This is my trick," the cat called to the Fox, scampering safely up into a tree. "Now let me see what yours are worth."
But the Fox had so many plans for escape he could not decide which one to try first. He dodged here and there with the hounds at his heels. He doubled on his tracks, he ran at top speed, he entered a dozen burrows,—but all in vain. The upwalkers caught him, and soon put an end to the boaster and all his tricks."
Sunpaw finished his story, looking out at the kits, giving them time to think. "Now, what do you think is the moral of this story?"

Gorsekit squirmed when he felt something touching his pelt. His honey eyes squeezed shut as his tiny jaws parted in a wide yawn. Blinking slowly, he glanced around and it occurred to him he was the only one left in the nest. "Hey!" His fur fluffed up. "They left without me!" He scrambled to his paws, shaking out his fur, before rushing out of the nursery. He glanced around for his littermates.
Sageheart padded back into camp, heading straight for the Neo den. He poked his head inside and purred in amusement. "Oh look. You did my job for me." He addressed the kits, chuckling. "But I'm afraid we've got work to do. Come on, Sunpaw. Look as alive as you can manage." He pulled his head back. Being as large as he was, he didn't walk into the den unless needed. He took up a good amount of space.

(wow, a lot has happened! sorry for the poof!)
"Be careful!", Copperfeather called as Gorsekit awakened and padded after his littermates. "Oh, I hope they don't cause any trouble", she sighed, sitting up and organizing the fresh moss. The dame bunched up the old, dry moss and began to form a new nest, making sure it was big enough for her kits to move around in.
Quickflame stopped grooming himself and stood up as Shellpaw left from the dame's den. "Good job!", he told her, flicking her flank with his tail as a sign of approval. "Who else is going hunting?", the tom asked Softwing, as he had zoned off from the camp's activities.

"I don't." He argues. He really didn't. Seeing her fond gaze at Lionkit was enough to twist a knot in his stomach. The kit was far more eager to be a shaman, far more deserving of Talongrasp's knowledge. "But...I understand."
He gives her a wary look. Nothing would help her? "Alright.. but if you ever do need anything, I'm happy to fetch it for you, Talongrasp." He walks besides the older she-cat, and while he is definitely listening, his gaze slips to the water.
"Knowing how to fight and hunt would distract us.. we'd be too busy listening for the feet of mice to hear the whispers..?" Ever since his ceremony he certainly found himself more drawn to the water. He waits for Talongrasp to choose a spot to sit and he stalls in sitting.
He wants to ask her to sit a bit closer to the water, but she was already settled, "..The water is out further today, isn't it?"
