Merlin didn't even glance up as Morgan slouched down the stairs and began her interrogation. He held the bagel in his mouth and, without skipping a beat, pointed directly over at Kaiden. Then, grabbing his bagel, he went back to his book, only slightly wishing that he'd woken up a little earlier and gotten some more silent time to read.

✒ Kaiden glanced up at Morgan and shrugged. He saw Merlin point to him and rolled his eyes. "It wasn't me, I was busy," Kaiden said defensively. "I don't listen to rowdy music like that." He looked at Morgan again and noticed that her hair was slightly messier than normal, and that Merlin hadn't even spoken to her. "Why're you both tired?" Kaiden asked curiously. He supposed it could've been because the first day of school was today, but he didn't think it'd be that big of a deal. He woke up earlier than this most days. Template made by Gengar ♀

Morgan narrowed her eyes slightly but then turned to open the fridge, scouting for something to eat,"It's because Merlin over there is a grump, and you know why I am tired."
She picked out a box of frozen waffles from the freezer and proceeded to shove them into the toaster with a grunt. She hated the first day of school. It meant that she would have to pay special attention to her appearance that day.

Merlin lifted a lip, grumbling, "I'm not a grump. I'm just not a ball of happiness and sunshine every second of the year." Slamming his book closed, he put on a massive fake smile and propped himself up onto his elbows like an eager child, "But I can try and be peppy and cheerful! Oh golly gee whiz, Morgan, can I have a waffle too?"

✒ Kaiden chuckled at Merlin's 'gleeful' tone. It sounded a little scary, especially when it was paired with Merlin's death glare. The kid definitely needed more sleep. Kaiden didn't really know Morgan or Merlin that well, he'd only been at the orphanage for a month or two, but he had caught on that Merlin could be a little irritable at times and it was best to not make matters worse. "I think this Merlin is scarier than the grumpy one," Kaiden said to Morgan. Template made by Gengar ♀

Morgan looked over at Kaiden and chuckled," Kaiden's right, Merlin. This new you is scary, so no. You cannot have a waffle until you stop that....whatever it is." She said, referring to the smile on Merlin's face with a small chuckle.

Merlin leaned back in his chair, letting the too-wide smile fade and replaced it with a small smirk that was much more comfortable, "Great. So don't complain about my grump if you dislike the alternative." Closing his book, he stood and moved over to the fridge, pulling out a bottle of syrup and plopping it down on the counter, "Now waffle me please."

✒ Kaiden shrugged and went back to reading the newspaper that was only barely legible, thanks to some of the younger kids dumping milk on it as they poured their cereal earlier. Kaiden only skimmed the paper, only mildly curious. Nothing interesting seemed to happen in this town, but that was why Kaiden had come here. The biggest event in it was of a new chain business making their home base here. The Bordeaux family had a long line of successful businesses already up, Kaiden briefly wondered how long they would be here. He glanced over at the counter as he smelled something burning. "Is your waffle ok?" Template made by Gengar ♀

Morgan glared at Merlin before shoving a frozen waffle into his hand. She then looked up in alarm, hearing Kaiden comment on the burning waffle. "Oh god!" Morgan cried when she saw the toaster," Quick, Merlin stick you hand in the burning flames and save my waffle!"

Merlin nearly threw the waffle right back at her. However, it seemed unfair to do so when there appeared to be a minor emergency. Stepping past Morgan, he reached out towards the toaster and, very delicately, reached around the back. Wrapping his fingers around the power cord, he pulled it from the wall, then looked over at Morgan, "Give it a minute to cool down before you burn your fingers."

✒ "OR stick your hand in there, and get half the day off from school," Kaiden suggested. He paused, realizing Morgan might just do that. "Please don't actually, Morgan I know you don't like school, but that might be a bit drastic." Template made by Gengar ♀

Morgan scoffed but she eyed the toaster, considering the idea. She decided against it but she did ruffle Merlin's hair a bit before saying," Thanks, Merly."

Merlin gave her a sharp glare, though the effect was ruined by the tiny smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, "No problem Organ." He set his frozen waffle down on her plate, then reached around her and delicately lifted the slightly blackened one from the toaster. Without hesitation, he took a massive bite, then turned and walked back to where his book awaited him.

"ugh how is everyone prepared?" Morgan grumbled as she sat down next to Kaiden at the counter," Even the kid across the street seems more prepared than me!"

Merlin slowly munched on the blackened waffle, only half listening to their conversation. However, Morgan's confusion was far too funny and he nearly spit some waffle across the counter as he desperately tried to restrain a chuckle. It was rather obvious why Morgan was so unprepared, as she was always off in her own little dream world instead of actually getting things done.

✒ Kaiden grimaced at the mention of the 'new kid'. He was a spoiled brat that didn't seem to give a crap about anything, and Kaiden knew this just by seeing him for a minute. Kaiden was responsible for bringing out and collecting the recycling at the orphanage every week, and apparently the new kid across the street had the same chore. However there was a slight difference in their chores, Kaiden brought out recycling and the new kid brought out two hefty bags of trash. Every. Single. Week. Kaiden confronted him once about it, with a single passive agressive comment. The new kid only smirked and walked away. Kaiden understood why there was two bags of trash, he didn't doubt that a house of that size could generate trash on a regular basis. He once lived in a house like that, but the only remnants of that lifestyle was his car and the cash he had under the floorboards beneath his bed. Kaiden glanced over in surprise as Merlin appeared to choke on his waffle for a moment. "Morgan careful, we need this one alive." [ I remember telling Ink about Kaiden's backstory but idk if I ever posted it here ^^" he originally comes from a rich family but he ran away a few months prior to this ] Template made by Gengar ♀

Morgan noted the grimace that played across Kaiden's face but decided to ignore it for now. She could always talk to him later if need be. She looked over at Merlin and grinned,"Yeah I guess we do. I mean who else would do my history homework for me."
She knew Merlin didn't like her all that much but honestly she couldn't imagine her life without her friend, even if he was a stick in the mud a lot of the times.
