The footsteps were proceeded by the sound of someone whispering to themselves nervously and quietly. All of a sudden, the noises abruptly ceased and then the room fell silent once more. A moment later... the shrill crowing of a rooster sounded out just a few feet from where Vertigo stood.

Vertigo hissed... literally? Someone was playing games with him. He'd been found out, and the owner was getting amusement out of toying with him. "Whatever you are, come out. Games are for children." He took a few steps forward, if they wouldn't reveal themselves he was going to continue with his goal.

As he stepped forward, there was the sound of a gun cocking behind him. If he turned around, he'd find a large shotgun hanging in the air, as though held and aimed by an invisible person.

Vertigo turned towards the sound of the strange clicking, but stopped when he saw a strange device floating there. "W-what is this thing?" He reached a hand out to try and lift it up.

The gun suddenly fired with a very loud BANG! But rather than firing a bullet, a flag fell out from the barrel and hung in the air. It actually had the word 'BANG' written on it. A peal of laughter from a small child could be heard behind him. However, there was nothing there at all; at least, nothing visible.

Vertigo stumbled backwards, almost falling at the sudden burst of noise. "B-bang? What kind of joke is this?" He raised a hand to his face, and tried to calm himself down. He shook his head and continued down the hall. Let's see what this creature did if he ignored it's tricks and taunts.

A banana peel very subtly appeared in front of Vertigo's feet as he walked.

Vertigo stepped on the peel and slid forward for a bit, only just managing to keep his balance. He didn't fall on his face, but it sure didn't do his pride any favors. With a grunt he flung the peel down the hall, and tried to continue on his way.

Hmmm... You're a difficult bloke, aren't you?
A cream pie suddenly appeared in the air, right even with Vertigo's face as he walked.

Vertigo had particularly fast reflexes, at least for a human. A fell back avoiding the pie, at first. He fell back onto the ground, and it fell right onto his face, truly the worst outcome. The pie didn't even taste good! A red eye glared from under the hood as he flung the tin into the wall.

While he was on the floor, a furry, dark colored rabbit-sized animal approached him at a high speed.

Vertigo spun to his feet, crouched low. He lunged forward, a clawed had slashing at the tarantula blindingly fast."I. AM. TIRED. OF. THESE. GAMES."

As it turns out, the furry creature wasn't a rabbit at all, but a very large specimen of tarantula. It scuttled around his fingers and ran towards his face (if he's still on the floor; if not, then his feet.)

Vertigo flung off his robes, and the spider with it. The heavily bandaged, and burned man bolted forward down the hall. The clawed hand from before must have been a trick on the eyes, as he looked perfectly human. Well, perfectly like a toasted human.

The clawed hand from before must have been a trick on the eyes, as he looked perfectly human. Well, perfectly like a toasted marshmallow. A shrill whistle sounded behind him from the other end of the hallway, followed by other sounds all reminiscent of freight train approaching.

Vertigo didn't look back, he just continued sprinting off towards where he thought the library was.

The strange noises came to a literal screeching stop.

He didn't look back, whatever he saw would have just been another trick. He finally made it to the stairs, and bolted up them. He'd have to get another cloak, or at least get his old one back. So far this trip had not been worth it.

The force behind the mischief silently followed the newcomer upstairs. He was already conjuring up ideas in his head of various shenanigans he could initiate in the library. The possibilities were nigh endless!

It wasn't too much longer until he made it to the door of the library, provided no distractions stopped him on his way there. He paused a moment to catch his breath, and listened to his surroundings.

Everything in the castle appeared calm and peaceful. A gentle breeze carried in through the library's only window. It appeared that the force or being(s) responsible had grown bored and deserted him.

Vertigo carefully looked around the room. First to see if anyone else was around. Secondly for any sort of parchment, or roll that might turn out to be the map he was looking for.

A large, plain book rested on the round table in the center of the room. Loose sheets of yellowed parchment poked out from the top, and it looked similar enough to what he was searching for.

He lit it on fire, and tossed it out the window. "I will not fall for your tricks!" He slowly made his way over to it, keeping a careful eye out. Seeing that the coast was momentarily clear, he opened the book and looked inside.

The book seemed to sprout eyes and fangs, and it began to snarl angrily and snap at Vertigo's fingers exactly like the monster book from Harry Potter, along with a few role-player's tablets.
A few feet to the left, the real maps were tucked neatly between two normal books on a shelf.

Vertigo, now thoroughly aggravated flung the table off to the side, the book with it. He looked around for his tormentor, not noticing the book with the actual maps just yet.

His tormentor remained perfectly tucked out of sight. As of now, only a couple of residents had been allowed to see him in any form, and no one had seen his true form. It was much more entertaining to play pranks while invisible.

It was much more satisfying to see someone when you punched them in the face. Vertigo paused for a moment before taking a deep breath. "This is too much activity. My burns are acting up." He rubbed is bandaged arm that had started aching. With another sigh he looked around the room and noticed the possibly probably notreal book of maps.
