The dark-skinned woman clicked her tongue as a sign of disapproval at her pharaoh's words. "I speak whatever name I want, Khyan," Kesi growled as she turned her head slowly to face him again. Her eyes had gone dark with rage and other strong emotions that she was all too proud to show. Speaking the pharaoh's true name was something that every Egyptian knew to avoid as it was a grave crime. If he was going to kill her, so be it.
"That leader... I wonder who that could be. One of your advisers? No," she drawled monotonously as she walked around the hall again, dragging her fingers along the walls. "They're too stupid, too ignorant to the ways of true men - men that work for everything they own, for every opportunity that comes to them. That's why I was brought here, isn't it?" With raised eyebrows she stopped walking so that she could turn to Khyan.
"But you see, I know the ways of all men. Of the poor, of the ill, of priests, of nobles... of pharaohs. Perhaps I am the capable leader you speak of.
"Oh, and before you see fit to respond to me with whatever nonsense has been whispered into your ears throughout your life, consider this: I will not help you until I get what I want - what the people deserve."

The guards actually surged forward at that, acting upon an order that had not yet been made. They knew the thoughts of their pharaoh as well as he himself knew them. Much like his hands, they betrayed his emotions without Khyan's consent. Even in this case, they did what he wanted them to, just not what he needed. Usually, he appreciated this, it made things so much easier for him, but in this instance, all it resulted in was another raised hand and surprised looks. Truth be told, he'd rather she say his name than Tiye's, so this was a change for the better.
"I've made it quite clear that I brought you here to advise me on the war," Khyan said, sounding both agitated and tired. "If it's taken you this long to grasp that, I have to doubt your abilities after all." He wanted to doubt her skills. If she couldn't do what he needed her to, he could have her killed. He'd appreciate that. But, unfortunately, he could tell from the way she talked that she knew what she was doing. He'd met trained politicians who'd be slaughtered in a debate with her.
He sighed as she repeated her demand. Repetitive, this one. "And what, exactly, do the people deserve?"

Kesi shot an overly-arrogant smirk at Khyan, feeling the tides turn slightly in her favor. She wasn't jumping with joy at the fact the he was going to listen to her because he was only doing that - listening. Listening to a proposition by no means indicated a deal. Kesi had a feeling that this would take quite a bit of negotiation but she was willing to do that. "Your people," she hissed with seething indignation taking hold of her words.
"Your people deserve the same rights as the noble lords, as the priests. We should be able to work where we please, marry who we please. And women shouldn't be treated like we're nothing more than petty insects to entertain you."

Khyan pretended to consider for a moment, cocking his head to the side. He let the silence drag for a little too long then, wearing a completely deadpan expression and using a tone to match, said, "no." It was a nice sentiment, he thought, but an entirely unrealistic one. It would jeopardise the entire Empire, not to mention his own life. Assassination attempts had happened over less. He did not wish to make enemies of the nobles, not during the best of times and certainly not in the position he was in.
"I don't know how you think I'd pull that off, or why you think I'd even try," he said, entirely sincere again. "But the answer is no."
( short and kinda bad post, but it's late and I took my melatonin already so excuses, right? )

Kesi clucked her tongue and shook her head, knowing that Khyan had made a fatal mistake before he even said "no." She hadn't actually expected anything but knowing that she had tried gave her peace of mind. She had done the best she could to try to convince the pharaoh to implement justice but had ultimately failed. That would be the way for eternity, she supposed.
So, with great gravity and all hints of her usual smug expressions wiped from her face, she stepped forward to meet the pharaoh and look him straight in the eye. "Then you will have no use for me. I suppose you could return me to my family, but I don't think you want to do that with all I've said - so you'll execute me.
"My one request is that I am executed in front of your family - any younger siblings, your mother, your cousins. I want them to see the decisions you have made, Khyan-Ra."

I've been trying over the last few days, but I can't seem to get anything out. I think that's because it's been too long since I wrote something here, and unfortunately I don't think it's a problem time will fix. so, as sorry as I am to say this, I really don't think I'll be able to continue this. it's a huge shame because it was so much fun but I've just lost all muse. again, sorry.
