plot ;; a strange villain has appeared, and has stolen an artefact that can remove the magic from people. the artefact was originally created by the assembly of mages, but it going missing was not reported due to it being a highly secret project. now that it's being used, people are scared - they don't know who's doing this or how they're doing it. to top it off, chaos-ridden minions are being used to kidnap people, and so fear ripples within the magical community.
characters ;; Corin Bellerose // 17 yrs old Gold Year ;; His light, lean body is very lightly muscled, with most of his height being in his legs. Of course, that said, his height isn't actually much, being barely 5'4'', if that. Honestly, he's probably slightly adjusting his height to be higher - he's more likely to be on the higher side of 5'3''. He has smooth brown skin with freckles dotting over his small nose and his cheeks, and his almond-shaped eyes are primarily brown; though the lower half of his left eye is blue. He has a small mole at the left corner of his lips, and he has a faint scar on his chin. His tousled, thick hair is somewhat curly and black-brown in colour, often becoming a very dark reddish-brown when he's been in the sun for a while (as it tends to lighten). Corin moved from France from a young age and as such has a notable accent, though he tries his best to lighten it. His first language, as such, was French. When not in Magisterium robes, he wears pale skinny jeans and an oversized sweater; usually beige or light grey in colour. Both ears are pierced with small black hoops lining the shell of his ear, and he has an overall 'chilled guy' look to him. The Academy has known from the first year he entered that he was a Makar - and he has trained over the years, but he doesn't seem to rely too much on his Chaos magic, preferring instead to even himself out. He's quite talented, all things considered. He's an orphan of sorts, as his parents didn't die, they sorta...disowned him, and his father made a point of not being on the birth certificate. He supposes he can see why (they were both young when he was born), but it still annoys him that he was raised in foster care and moved to America for convenience, rather than anything else.
Ezekiel Alexeev // 17 y/o Gold Year ;; A decent, 5'6 height to make a slender figure with a noticeable amount of muscle, but not so much that it's emphasized. White skin covered his frame, on the paler side yet not ghostly. Topping his head is a mane of shaggy ivory hair, long enough to go past his hips. In his free time, he has it down in all its messy, but impressive glory. During active/intense training though, he merely braids it in one long tail. To match his dark hair, Ezekiel has both an icy blue eye and a crisp hazel, both are almost doe-eyed pretty much. Left eye is hazel, right eye is blue. He isn't a fan of jewelry or piecings except for the silver doorknocker nose ring he has, a small ring between both nostrils. Outside of the Magisterium walls, he prefers to simply wear jeans and a t-shirt. Nothing special, as he's allergic to anything fancy unless it's absolutely necessary to dress/act like so. His father is Russian, and his mother is unknown to him, yet he was informed she was American, which was why he was born in America. Being raised by his father, he learned to speak both English and Russian, and casually slips between both languages, yet his English has a Russian accent present. His father is a mage, and a very high ranking one, so having a son that's a dud is out of the question. Ezekiel is very skilled in all types of magic he knows, Earth Magic specifically. He isn't a Makar though, yet he studies the magic curiously. He seems lazy, but he's actually very, very smart.

omg that's fine - i just wanna know what year you'd like the characters to be in o: i think i have a pref to silver or gold year for them to be 16/17 but tbh, anything is fine

Corin
There was some sort of vague disappointment at his Gold Year being so uneventful so far. It wasn't that he wanted trouble or anything, but it would've been nice to be able to accomplish something, as the Makar. All that had happened so far was his protection, him being told that he was great, etc. It was supposed to be great or something, but as an introvert, Corin was tired of the parties and the rich people who surrounded him. He liked being an emancipated minor who lived on his own when he wasn't at school - it was the sort of thing that he preferred. Sure, sure, he'd tried to live with mages not long after he'd started the Magisterium but it just wasn't right. It had never sat right with him, really.
The common room was quiet, which wasn't an unfamiliar sight for him. He sat cross-legged on the floor and absently flicked through a book that had been interesting at some point but had managed to lose his interest, and so the words blurred vaguely and he stared somewhat at the page, though really, his thoughts were wandering. The fingers of his left hand drummed absently against his thigh, and he blinked a few times as he tried his best to zone back into the world. It didn't really work, and so he let himself drift back into his own thoughts.
Things had been tense recently, to say the least. A few kidnappings had happened, which wasn't completely unusual, but there had been enough of them that suspicions were arising. Corin didn't particularly care - though he supposed he was meant to. It was just hard to care when the community either disliked him or thought he needed protecting from everything. He didn't really enjoy being coddled, and he had no opinion of those who disliked him without meeting him. Either way, he wasn't in a great situation, he supposed. Was it childish or selfish or him to not like any of this? Probably. He didn't care. Whatever happened, he didn't really like the idea of being dragged into something that turned out to be a false alarm.
His gaze finally refocused and he shifted his weight, lifting his head. Last he'd checked, the common room had been empty, and it remained that way. Corin didn't mind. Honestly, it was preferable to hiding out in the library or laying in bed. It made him feel a little less useless or...hidden, or something. Either way, this was better than hiding elsewhere, and it was probably one of the last places that anyone would look for him if they needed him. It was a win-win situation.

(I apologize for the length and quality ;_; I'm tired xc)
Ezekiel
Another day of more nothing. The year had yet to offer him a different challenge. A real one, more or less. Only heavy studying and the usual occasional mission. Of close, it was good to get around and not do completely nothing, but a change would be nice! Yet, there was nothing he could do, as it wasn't him deciding his own daily fate at the famous Magisterium. Once he was of age though, out of the school, he could do what he wished. Not that Ezekiel would do anything stupid with his magic. As long as it didn't involve daily fancy gatherings, and trailing after his father. That meant wearing a suit, and he didn't like wearing a suit (even though he actually looked quite good in one.) The Gold Year mage would much rather laze around his father's house, play chess and sleep instead. Much more relaxing than socializing with rich folk who insisted on boasting and giving you their whole life story.
That day, he was looking for nothing in particular. After sneaking food and eating an extra fill, he decided to just head back to the common room, where he'd continue to be bored as heck. Perhaps he'd toy around with the chess set he brought with him every year. It was better than sitting around doing absolutely nothing. No one liked dying of boredom. Walking into the common room, he ran a hand through his prized mane of hair, mentally purring at the soft, ivory locks. Sighing, he went to go look for the old chess set, glancing at Corin as he passed on his way to his room. Not that he didn't feel like interacting with anyway, it was just how he acted. Zeke wasn't the most "social" person, super energetic and happy every second of his life. No, he preferred to act normal. He snorted at the thought, as he grabbed the chess set from his room.
And so he brought it out into the common room, simply sitting down somewhere on the floor. He simply liked to spend most of his time in the common room, even more than the confines of his own chambers, lliking to bring his stuff out there and do whatever he had in mind at the time. That day, it was chess. Usually, if he wasn't in a bad mood, he'd let others play, if they asked. He didn't invite. Much too lazy. His different colored eyes moved around as he set up the wooden pieces, smiling slightly at them all. It was all he did lately, or read books, to get his mind off of what's been going on. The kidnappings were no joke of course, if the news reached the Magisterium. If only one knew on what ground the 'nappings were made. Not that any of it scared him. If anything, it had interested him. So interesting, that he wanted to go sniffing around. And to keep him from doing so, he tried near everything. Perhaps he should be eager to study and learn whatever lessons came up, so he'd have other things to concentrate on.
Running a hand through his mane again as he set up the pieces in various puzzles and positions to mentally solve, Ezekiel grew silent again for a minute or two. Then, he began to occasionally mutter things in Russian, moving pieces our resetting them. This was usually how his free time was spent. Most others spent it with friends or heavy studying. He spent it playing a board game and mentally complaining. Brows bending, he snorted before resting his chin in a hand, glaring down at the innocent chessboard. Shaking his head, he reset the pieces into yet another puzzle to look at, yet it did nothing. Similar to Corin, the occupation was merely a vessel to make it look like he was doing something, even though his thoughts weren't all there for it. Maybe another trip around the school to snoop and gossip would help, as you eventually found out what you needed to know wherever you were. Just needed to find the right person, or moment to listen in on. Shaking his head yet again, Ezekiel huffed softly before going silent, eyes narrowed as he mentally solved the puzzle set before him.

Corin
The presence of another did not go unnoticed, but Corin did not raise his gaze nor did he bother to greet whoever it was. Instead, he chose to flip to the next page of the book, mind slowly churning over the day's lessons before he flicked back to the book and studied the words quietly. Ah. Predictable as ever. The young female love interest would fall in love with the strapping young man who held an air of mystery around him. Boring. He was bored. To see if he was correct, he flicked through the pages lightly, mind capturing the image of each page but not really digesting it. Once he hit the word love, he paused and studied it.
Mhm, seemed about right. He flicked to the final page to see if it was a happily-ever-after story (it was), before lightly setting it to his side and picking up the next book he had to read, considering he had some spare time. Ah. It was about Makars. Nice. Okay, just what he needed - to compare himself to the heroics of the Makars before him, as if that wasn't what he did often. Corin frowned down at the book before he sighed and flicked it open, thumbing to page 302, a page that he'd memorised, but felt like reading nonetheless.
Honestly, his memory never failed him - but this was something that others did not know. If he said that he'd forgotten about something that he didn't care about, people tended to take it much better than if he told them that he didn't particularly care. There had, of course, one person that he'd admitted having eidetic memory to - but that had been a mistake and he wasn't particularly fond of lingering on those thoughts for too long, fingers absently curling over the book. After a long few moments of staring blankly downwards, he closed the book and moved on to the next one. This seemed more of his style, and so he adjusted how his legs were crossed (moving so that his legs were stretched slightly and his ankles were crossed, instead) and shifted his weight a little, considering going to bed to read, or something. Maybe his group would consider leaving him to his own devices, stop bugging him about a counterweight or whatever. He knew what could go wrong. He was perfectly aware of it, and he didn't particularly feel like dealing with it.
Corin let the book fall closed in his hands and blinked absently, curling in on himself slightly as he put his elbows on his knees and leaned forward, head lowering. This book wasn't as interesting as it had seemed, but he wasn't particularly bothered. He read through it absently and, when he had to turn the page, he stopped and half-closed his eyes, instead losing himself in his own thoughts. They were, as usual, a scattered mess; various images flickering here and there, words spoken to him when he'd first been given the purple-black bead that now sat on his bracelet, how his teacher was often irritated with the fact that he wasn't too bothered about paying much attention to classes if they didn't interest him.
His eyes flickered open again and he lifted his head in something akin to a sleepy manner, blinking a few times. Right. There was another person in here. He shifted his weight so that he was sitting with his legs stretched out and set the book to the side again, tilting his head to watch the entrance of the common room. If it began filling up or something stupid, he'd probably leave. He wasn't sure if he had the energy to pay attention to many people, and, frankly, he was growing tired of socialisation in general. The quiet mumbles he could hear from the other were quite enough for him, and it only vaguely irked him that he couldn't understand. It didn't matter. He could speak French at any point and confuse people - especially considering how it was European French and this was America, where the French they spoke was often different.
Once again, his train of thought had derailed and Corin could not be bothered to change it for the life of him, and so he let it continue down its spiralling path and allowed it to crash, staring into space with a neutral expression.

Ezekiel
His brow occasionally twitched at the soft noise going about, from the other male in the room. Briefly did the he turn his gaze to Corin, multicolored eyes looking him over for a second or two before looking away again. Ezekiel could almost sense the other's boredom from where he was, yet he did nothing. What he did do though, was tsk as he got into a problem with his puzzle, switching to English as he muttered something about stalemate. Currently, that was all he could come to in the puzzle. Stalemate, where one move put the king in danger. Switching the hand holding his chin to holding the side of his head, a green eye and blue darted around, considering the possibilities of the pieces like anyone would in real life decisions. That was why he liked the game. It taught one to strategize, and consider everything.
Eyes eased up a little as he finally pushed through, smiling slightly as he pictured queening his pawn. Hm. Fifteen moves? Very long indeed. And so he moved onto the next puzzle, having to refer to a book he brought, looking at the picture as he set it up. His eyebrows shot up when the instructions said to claim checkmate in three moves. Setting the book down, Ezekiel returned to the board, yet half of his concentration continued to be elsewhere. One's brain tended to multitask, able to think many thoughts at once, cycle through quickly. And that's just what he was doing. Wondering when he'd eat next, or what the next lesson would be on, sleep, his puzzle. Anything recent really. His mind tended to wander a lot though, which was why it looked like he ignored a lot. He didn't though, just choosing not to look interested.
Noise. More noise. Head turning yet again, he looked at Corin, eyes staring, almost drilling holes into his skull. He understood boredom was a horrible thing, yet there was no need to ooze it out into the world so obviously. Snorting slightly, he finally spoke. It was already a nicely-crafted, slightly lighter than semi-baritone voice. Anyway, he'd said "One should see to satisfying their boredom instead of burying their head in something that just stalls it, hm?" He only stared for a moment longer before taking his attention away again. A curse came forward in his favored tongue as he stared at his chessboard, quiet and grumbled. Yelling wasn't something he liked to do to himself or inanimate objects. Going silent again, a finger tapping his small doorknocker nose ring, his rainbow gaze recalculated his moves, trying not to loose his two rooks, which were needed to finish the puzzle. Eventually, it was success, and he laid back, taking a somewhat break.
Instead of setting up another puzzle, he grabbed his book on chess and read that instead. As he read, something changed. Subtracted from his thoughts. Zeke was no longer thinking about the "dangerous incidents" going on. Probably because he'd be bored either way. Unable to squat either way. Oh well. His nose wrinkled at the thought of being able to be do absolutely nothing. He held a breath for a moment before its release, slow and content. For now, that was enough, toying with chess and dealing with studies. Maybe he'd get a book on Earth Magic later. Or elementals. The idea made him grunt slightly in approval. If only everything else could happen so smoothly, so casually. Yet, nothing like that lasted long in the mage world, unfortunately. If not this, then that. Always some problem or other.
Finally did his book come to rest, setting it down beside himself, nearby the board. Sleep sounded nice right then, but he wasn't tired. Fingers running through and playing with his hair, he repeated the soothing actions as he too eventually went into a sort of doze. Green and blue eyes staring upward, even them closing at a later point. Yet, Ezekiel was still listening. Still aware of everything around him, as usual. Honestly, he looked just like a lazing cat settled down to do nothing, spread out on the floor casually. He had that unique ability to have that certain "I don't want to talk" look that warded most people off when he didn't want to be bothered. It was one of those times now, even though he himself didn't realize it. No matter. It wasn't like there was a bunch of people in the room wanting to talk to him anyway. And that was how he liked it. Either a few people around, or none at all. Unfortunately, being around crowds was a must in life, not that he minded honestly. Zeke just tended to like quiet spaces more. It lets one clear their thoughts and gather themselves.

(One, I wasn't being pushy. Pushy would mean stalking by liking, messaging and tagging every other second, which I'm not. I've done nothing close to that. Two, I can assume if you have time to rp elsewhere, you've had time to rp here? And forgive me I sound pushy or rude now, but I tend to butt heads a little when things are turned a little on me. I suppose because I lurk around the forums so much, that I take favor in a stream of reply, or at least the partner telling me their reason for a lack of one. And, it does say in my search page requirements to reply every or every other day I believe, I don't remember. I wouldn't be saying anything, honestly, if you would just give me a heads up. Say you're gone or that you're having trouble getting a reply in for whatever reason. Seeing a partner around the forums replying to everything else except the rp being shared makes me feel like it was because of something I did, which isn't the best feeling ;~

okay no offense but you have been liking things and you did tag me, and you even bumped the thread - keep in note that it's only been four days. you may have noticed im very on/off. this means no, i dont have the time. plus, i want to state right now that i am severely mentally ill and rping is a stress relief for me, which means replies that im finding a little harder to do will take the lower priority - it's been four days. Four. Days. ive replied to literally two ? things. if that. ive been chatting elsewhere. when im chatting, it means - guess what - i'm not rping. i chat a lot to friends because i know them and i know they wont mind you wanna know what IS bad??? ive taken 3 weeks and i still havent responded to someone on her plot thread. i still havent, and i might take a little longer yet. i do tend to take a while and i do tend to pick and choose with rps and people who go "Listen you havent replied do it please because youve rped once or twice elsewhere" is really irritating to me because - shocker - rping is supposed to be a stress relief.
im sorry but i dont think im the right partners if you expect a constant stream of replies? im active, but im not an active enough roleplayer to give you a reply a day or whatever. sometimes i just cant reply to something bc my muse isnt cooperating but give me time and you'll get something decent rather than a sh*tty little post that barely conveys anything. i aim for quality and sometimes, yeah!! that takes time.
ive also been recently fired so yeah!! im irritable. ive also had to stay away from college because of some personal issues and frankly, im dealing with a helluva lot - between my assignments, some personal issues with people, the fact that i tend to run from MAYBE an hour or two of sleep a day because im too paranoid to sleep and the fact that i have to get a new job, im currently extremely busy and that's why im on/off and very picky about pretty much everything.
im sorry if i sound rude or whatever but i dont really take this stuff lightly? youre acting as if four days is the end of the world and im about to have to have a similar conversation with someone over 6-ish days, all because ive replied to maybe one or two rps consistently. maybe even three.
my muse is a fickle thing and if im going to do something i want to do it right and sometimes that means waiting a little longer. i also have real life to contend with, a social life that i intend to maintain, and severe mental illnesses that im battling; frankly, my life is hellish and if writing on a cat forum brings me stress then it makes me question how considerate my partner is.
i want you to know that i almost always end up replying, but sometimes it takes a while. sometimes it'll take a few days, sometimes it'll take a couple of weeks. i know that's not everyone's ideal partner but ive stopped bothering abt asking for more with my own partners because of how spotty i can be. i maintain small group rps because if i dont then i'm going to be the reason it either dies or i'll be kicked out. i thought that one-on-ones would be a little more relaxed considering there's only two of us and so while me being slow is gonna stall the plot, it also means i want to be able to give you something you can reply to and something that's quality
so i want you to make a choice a - keep roleplaying w/ me w/ some chatter on the side, but accept that sometimes replies can be spotty and sometimes i poke around elsewhere b - drop me
please take into consideration whether you're going to push and the like, because the more im pushed the less likely i am to respond, honestly. i love magisterium and i'd love to do this roleplay, but im not going to stress myself out over it because i havent gotten to a reply that i dont quite feel like writing yet.

If you expect a long response to that, you're unfortunately out of luck (that wasn't meant to be rude, it's just that I'm running on fumes in terms of sleep.) I didn't need the details, as I don't fancy bringing someone to feel the need to do so (it makes me feel worse that they would see need to.) So, my apologies for making you feel you needed to explain yourself to me. But like I said, all you had to do was simply drop in and tell me you'd be lacking replies to the rp. Something is better than nothing on terms of awareness for me. If you couldn't match my requirements, it wouldn't hurt to say so. I wouldn't have been annoyed or anything. (Advanced partners are hard to come by for me, so I wouldn't want to drop this so easily.) Maybe that is why I saw fit in my little bout? Not that it justifies it, honestly.
Anything can be worked out, as long as all parties are willing to attend. I don't mind side chat and less replies. That would be better, actually, because it would ward off discussions such as this, and lead to us being on better terms again perhaps, hm?

i dont expect a long response, though i want to mention that ive been awake for nearing 24 hours so yeah if im touchy then maybe thats why you made me feel like i had to explain because youve been acting like four days is four months and im not sure if im down for that. i definitely match your requirements unless your requirements mean replying daily, because i cant do that and im not willing to do it - no offense - for someone i barely know
my side chat might be sparse, because as ive mentioned, i dont really know you - im willing to change that, absolutely, but you need to understand that im not willing to push myself to stress for you. communicating would definitely make things like this happen less, but it needs to go two ways? i need you to understand that i AM spotty and there are many many reasons for it and sometimes i do pick and choose at where i am before i vanish again for god knows how long, because thats how i can be. alternatively, i might be showing as online but im viewing posts that ive missed on mobile (where i never post) or im currently busy and i just have the tab open
anyway yeah whatever sorry if im snappy but im pretty exhausted and i have a lot of things to do today so i might drop off the face of the earth soon

I don't like the idea of stressing over an acquaintance either, so I can't argue with that ;v; I can accept and understand one's terms as long as I actually know what they are, like you're explaining now.
I suppose I shouldn't have poked at you for your absence, because I used to have a habit of that as well while just lurking around the forums instead of rping or even chatting. So again, my apologies for agitating you. I can't be at my most active to rps over the next week or so, so I probably wouldn't be able to reply so frequently either :'3
