char a grew up in an alternate universe where magic is a common occurance. everyone has magic, and it's considered normal to use it just like you use your legs to walk or mouth to speak. they are well-educated and come from a famous family. in terms of magic, they are fairly average. one day, a group of magic experts requests that they volunteer to be the first (human) test subject for an experiment: these experts have been opening portals to another world and seek to send a human in so that they can come back and tell what they saw. well, it succeeds, but char a, assuming magic is normal in this new universe as well, accidentally does this on live television (assume it's during the 60s/70s that this happens and people from the magical word live longer/age slower due to magic).
well, after a strange person appeared in the nonmagical universe (ours), the world went a little berserker. it passed, of course, but in the brief panic, some laws were passed by the UN agreeing that some nations should prepare in case it happened again, since they would be "elected" to protect the world if it happened.
the USA was one of these countries. Congress took care of the problem discreetly by setting up AME, the Anti-Magic Experiment. here, char b entered the experiment for various reasons (money, security, fun) and was chosen from many to receive the "treatment".
basically, they were given magic. However, this magic is not the same natural magic that char a has. Their magic feeds on the soul, since they are not supposed to have magic at all. Using it makes them weak, sometimes causing them to throw up or spit up blood if used too much/too often, and they have been given the responsibility to catch and kill any magical threats that enter the world. (It is modern day when the project is complete.)
Well, char a and their magic expert friends are back at it again. This time they've figured out how to stabilize the portal so that char a can stay for a longer time and explore more of the universe to gather a better understanding. However, they are in for a big ride when soon after they arrive, char b is sent after them convinced that char a means to end the world as they know it. While they are confused and/or get injured, char a's link back to their own world gets cut off.

oh the other plot was with char b being a totally normal person who's parents/grandparents were alive when char a came in and they have an old photograph and stories and they recognize char a and are super confused

OOC Totally good with me, I was thinking of using a male too, tbh. I just dunno if I should use Norman(my small ginger with a savior complex and a snarky mouth) or Alistair(my tall self righteous guy with personal space issues) because both would be fun.
Unless you would rather I use a girl, cause I am use Kallisto, or like...Kirby or something.

Alex Hu // 94 (looks around 23) // male // char a Alex is a rather well-rounded individual. He comes from a well-known family, and one requirement of being in a well-known and financially privileged family is that you must either be exceptional or be only great enough that no one sees you fail. He has chosen the later; although he has had lots of magical teaching, he is only average in practicing it. He specializes in love and veiling (hiding) spells, though defense and shielding are also high on his list of important spells. While he does his best to be cheerful and social, Alex doesn't take a joke easily. Often he sees things in the literal sense only. He is very stuck-in-his-ways, and once he learns something or takes an opinion, he usually sticks with it even if you prove him wrong. In this sense, it is hard for him to adapt to his environment, and first impressions are very important if you want him to like you. However, he is usually friendly, unless, of course, he's heard something bad about you or a reason to act otherwise. He is loyal to a fault if you've made a good impression, and easily gullible around anyone he trusts.

OOC Text Norman Walters // 21 // Male // Norman is a very short man, considering he only stands at 5'1, but it's best not to mention this to him, touchy subject. He's also extremely small in frame, honestly small is just the best word to describe him. So how exactly did he get this position? Well he has other strengths that make him invaluable to this mission, and for what it's worth, he can fight. He just relies more on his magic and weaponry than actual strength. He has curly naturally red hair thats shaved and styled up the sides and then on top it's nothing but fluffy curls that tend to fall into his face at times. He has rather pale skin and doesn't tan at all, instead he just freckles, and lord does he have a lot of those. Freckles cover most of his small body, he has sort of big ears that stick out and people often compare his ears to that of an elf. It drives him crazy, and then to top it all off, he has dark green, round eyes that seem to catch the attention of others rather easily. Norman is a master of reading people, he's incredible at deduction and is sort of like a Sherlock Holmes. He's also extremely defensive over himself and continually hides behind a different mask or persona around other people, making it hard to tell when he's being genuine or when he's wearing one of his masks. He's extremely agile and lithe and has a huge savior complex that forces him to constantly help others, even when his help is less than needed. Norman has a very high metabolism and can eat just about anything while somehow maintaining his small figure, and he's honestly got a lot of feist in him. He's not one to let his guard down and is very slow to trust, and despite having a lot of fears, he hates to show his vulnerability and would rather push that all as far away as he possible can. He's an insomniac and likes to think of the creative side of life, he loves food and is honestly quite nosy, getting in other people's business even when it was most definitely not wanted, and he has absolutely no problem telling people off, which tends to get him in trouble and he...he gets punched in the face a lot. Also, le picture: ICText

"But I already saw that place. It was like a field. They were playing baseball," he repeated. "Everyone was shouting before you pulled me back." They had heard this description with more detail many times before. Alex had not changed the story in the slightest since the time he'd traveled to another world.
One of the others stepped forward. "This time we've worked out the kinks. We want to send you for a longer period of time-- maybe a few years-- so that you can get a better idea of this place and report back to us." Alex frowned visibly.
"What about Mom and Dad? I won't see them for two years?" he asked with distress. One of the monks reassured him that communication could be established once he was in the other universe and that his parents had also consented to him going.
"Imagine it's like you're going on a long trip to another country. We'll help you if anything goes wrong. There will be a link permanently in the place where we open the portal. If you need to leave or contact us in an emergency, just go there." The sound of it made him uneasy, but he was willing. It was for science, right? Nothing had gone wrong last time, right? He'd been pulled back safely, and now the monks had a better idea of the world he was going to and how to keep him there longer. It would be much safer this time, and he'd agreed eagerly to it last.
He sighed again. "Fine. I'll go. Wish me luck," he said, hanging his shoulders.
The monks, nodding and seeming ready, began to hum in union. With a few faint words and hand motions, a multicolored portal opened in front of him. Alex didn't take long to admire the light show before stepping through it to the edge of a park: Central Park to be exact. He didn't know where he was. Luckily, not that many people had seen him.
He turned back to the portal, which was much smaller from the other side. It looked like a slight distortation in the air, but he knew the look. He shouted back in, "What do I do now?" and received laughter and the words "Go explore."
He had money; he didn't know if the currencies would be similar. He could also offer his talents for trade. Often people would "trade" their specialized magics for goods or for someone else preforming their specialized magics. He started to walk through the park, making sure to take note of the people. It might be good to sit and people-watch before he decided to do anything.

hm. He could be anywhere. Either he lives his life and would be alerted when the AME needs him, or he lives at their facility and is sent out when needed (which is like never).

OOC Man that second option would suck for him. Norman living his life sounds about right. He usually lives in NYC in roleplays, so I'll have him live there still, just gotta write up a starter.
