Faceclaim - Godfrey Gao
48 yrs - 29th February, 1920 - Homosexual Demiromantic - he/him - British - Secret Intelligence Service [MI6]
Physical Details -
Height:
5'6''
Weight:
145lbs
Ethnicity:
British-Taiwanese
Race:
Biracial; Asian/Caucasian
Body Build:
Mesomorph
Facial Features:
Almond-shaped eyes, sharp jawline, expressive eyebrows and commonly seen with stubble; mole underneath his right eye
Hair:
Black-brown, generally considered windswept; thick and soft to the touch
Skin Tone:
Fair
Eye color:
Brown [amber; surprisingly dark limbal lines, considering his age]
Distinguishing marks:
Tattoo covering his left arm - forget-me-nots and cornflowers, with some lavender, too; no facial scars, but many littering his torso - from old knife wounds to faint bullet wounds, nothing he can't handle
Voice:
Deeper than most would think, smooth and quite soothing. Hard-to-place accent, the sort that's distinctly British but hard to place - a mix of South Welsh and...London-ish, and so is refined with a hint of a lilt
Attire:
Calm and casual is usually his thing; a button-up with dark (usually black) trousers and neat shoes, often has his sleeves rolled up and a couple of buttons undone. Very rarely does he wear ties, and he's prone to wearing oversized sweaters even when socialising with work colleagues. Will wear appropriate attire when on a job, but if it's paperwork or if it generally isn't in the field, he's known to be overly casual
Disposition -
Good personality traits:
Gentle and loving, often hard-working and generally quite a sweet-natured person
Bad personality traits:
Stubborn and impulsive, holds severe grudges, anger is a lasting thing
Character's greatest joy in life:
He holds much pride in his job, and so that's currently his greatest joy - being the best of MI6

Losing everything - his job, his home, etc
Priorities:
Turning in work on time, following assignments as told, generally keeping in the good graces of his superiors
Life philosophy:

If granted one wish, it would be:
As cliche as it is? World peace
Characterβs soft spot:
Men with good personalities
Mood character is often in:
Warming - generally neutral with a hint of a good mood
Sense of humor:
Though he isn't great at handling sarcasm, he adores puns and wordplay. Also, references to the fact he was born on the extra day in a leap year - he straight up refuses to have another birthday, because it's hilarious to him
Lying tendencies:
Compulsive liar, through and through
Vocational Training -
Languages:
Mandarin, Welsh, English, Taiwanese Hokkien, Filipino and Portuguese
Education:
Attended private schools for his life until he was drafted into the war, trained as a spy during the war
Combat:
Street-trained, mostly, with two tutors for capoeira. Weaponry training was taught during the war when he was drafted
Self-Perception -
How do they feel about themself:
Self-consciousness has never been something Gwyn has been, though he knows he would change a fair few things about himself. He's hyper-aware of his personality and so he clearly does not enjoy his 'normal' or 'previous' personality - and so he's not...particularly fond of himself, in that aspect. Appearance-wise, he's quite happy, because he looks nothing like his father and completely like his mother, something that he counts as a blessing
One word the character would use to describe self:
Determined
What does the character consider their best personality trait?:
His kindness
What does the character consider their worst personality trait?:
His impulsiveness
What does the character consider their best physical characteristic?:
His jawline
What does the character consider their worst physical characteristic?:
His scars
How does the character think others perceive them:
He's not quite sure, to be honest. While he's completely aware that many people enjoy his presence, he's also aware that other spies do not particularly like him, for the most part - though he's only interacted with those from MI6. Considering that he comes off as someone innocent and gentle, many do not deem him fit to be the top spy, despite him proving himself over and over. Frankly, he's quite convinced that he's become some sort of spy-hatred magnet
What would the character most like to change about themself?:
Unsurprisingly, his personality. He's changed it to the best of his ability, but he knows he has problems here and there and that he's not the best person in the world
Goals -
Drives and motivations:
His need to finish work as a whole is generally a good motivator for him, but he's also striving to defend his status and ensure that he's worth his title, making sure that people can't say that he's unfit for duty or the like
Immediate goals:
Again, to prove that he's good enough - joining the Agency and proving himself to them is his current goal
Long term goals:
Prove himself enough that when he retires, he can have some sort of legacy behind him
Flaws -
Greatest vulnerability or weakness:
How trusting he can be - the fact that he is a kind-natured person can be easily twisted against him
Biggest regret:
Choosing work over the man he thought he loved
Minor regrets:
Letting an ex-boyfriend take his dog, letting his sister's child go into the foster care system, not standing up against his father
Biggest accomplishment:
Becoming an elite spy for MI6
Minor accomplishments:
Using his money to help his mother move back to Taiwan, ensuring that his younger brother went with her, eating healthily
Past failures they would be embarrassed to have people know about:
The one time he mistook a banana for a phone due to sleep deprivation, or when he accidentally wrote an entire report in Mandarin and handed it in
Characterβs darkest secret:
He was not always a decent person, and was actually quite nasty - he doesn't want people to know that he was unkind and generally a bully
Negative traits easily disliked for:
His stubborn nature does get him into a fair amount of trouble, and the fact that he could argue in an empty room doesn't help

Blood Type:
AB negative

None present

Phobias:
Ailurophobia and taphophobia
Quirks and Traits -
Unique character quirks:
Leg jiggling is a persistent thing, as well as wiggling his fingers or rocking back and forth when standing still
Optimist or pessimist?:
Optimist
Introvert or extrovert?:
Introvert
Daredevil or cautious?:
Daredevil
Logical or emotional?:
Emotional
Disorderly and messy or methodical and neat?:
Methodical and neat, surprisingly
Prefers working or relaxing?:
Working
Confident or unsure of himself/herself?:
Mild mix of both; confident in some aspects, unsure in others
Animal lover?:
Not very - snakes and birds mainly, but he doesn't mind dogs
Habits -
Hobbies:
He is quite a talented pianist, and he enjoys the occasional round of football [soccer] with his friends. He is also quite fond of embroidery and baking
Bad habits:
Chewing his lip and biting his nails - or some godawful combination of the two, like chewing his nails while nibbling at his lip
Extremely skilled at:
Memorisation, due to eidetic memory
Extremely unskilled at:
Making plans, due to impulsive nature
Nervous tics:
Licking his lips, scratching the back of his neck
Usual body posture:
Unimposing and light on his feet - straight-backed but not drawing himself to his full height, arms loose at his sides and weight usually shifted to one leg (often his left). Very rarely slouches, but when he's angered, he will draw himself up a little taller
Mannerisms:
Head tilts, often sits on the edge of his chair, prone to steepling his hands if talking about something, twirls his hair often. Generally has a relaxed and/or open-confident mannerism, but prone to nervousness gestures, too
Pet Peeves:
People who pop gum or chew loudly
Mode of transportation:
A rather modern car, his Aston Martin DB5 is his pride and joy, and he bought it when it first came out, really. It's a very dark grey-blue, bordering on black, and he keeps it extraordinarily clean
Most prized possession:
There's a picture of his mother that he keeps in his wallet at all times - it's very old, from before she moved to the United Kingdom, worn at the edges, but he keeps it because she looked so happy, and his goal is to make her that happy once more
Tools of The Trade -
Generally keeping it mixed, Gwyn will often use whatever equipment he's given - whatever tools he needs, he uses MI6's resources, and so he isn't too bothered with keeping his own 'personal' tools of the trade. If he's gotta go undercover, he's not gonna use his own personal weaponry, either, is he? But moving on from that, Gwyn does have his own little arsenal. It's not uncommon for him to have an Astra 400 on him, or, alternatively, his Ruger Hawkeye (single shot pistol) - because it was discontinued, he finds it amusing to keep it on him. Guns, however, are not his forte. Combat knives are much more his style, with his most common knife being a Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife (more out of being patriotic) or an Eickhorn KM2000, which he stole from an enemy when he was still a young spy. More for self-defense than anything, he does tend to keep a butterfly knife with him; but really, he's prone to using it to impress people rather than keep it hidden for, y'know, self-defense. Overall, he's a well-armed person (and has way more arms at home), and tends to lean on MI6 for any other equipment he might need, which suits both him and them just fine.
Abilities -
The recently revived bar****u is something that Gwyn is trained in, hilariously, but he does not see much of a need to use it very often. He relies more on capoeira, a high-mobility Brazilian martial art. It might seem like an odd martial art to pick up, considering it is often seen more as a game or the like, but he finds it works best for him. He was trained by two men who came from Brazil, and they seemed to think it was a good idea. Aside from that, however, he has no true formal martial arts training; he was a street-fighter and so street-fighting was more his thing, but it's often noted that he prefers his legs if he has to go in close-combat, as they're his strength. His speed, of course, is everything to him.

Relationships -
Arthur Cadwallader - Father [deceased]
To him, Gwyn was nothing but trouble. Arthur Cadwallader did not appreciate that his son did not inherit his looks, did not pass as white, and did not generally follow his orders. The man was as stern as he was cold, and it was rare that he showed affection. His death was suspicious but never truly looked into, but speculation says that it's entirely possible that Gwyn killed him. With lack of proof, however, it is impossible to convict and so it's a cold case.
Ruan Xiulan - Mother
Now living in Taiwan and erased from British databases, Xiulan was a very influential person to Gwyn. Though he did not respect nor love her as he should have growing up, he starting to bond with her in his teen years, and by his adult years, he was very close with her. He has inherited all of her looks - from his dark hair to his amber eyes, and the only difference between them is Gwyn's fairer skin. She moved to Britain for a better life and married Arthur, but that did not help her nor make her life better. She is in her mid-sixties, now, and is quite happy. She often refers to him as Jiahao, and very rarely uses 'Gwyn'.
Elwyn Cadwallader - Younger Brother
Though the two were not, originally, the closest of friends (they have a twenty-year gap between them), they became closer when their father died and so Gwyn put forth a lot of effort to ensure that Elwyn ended up in Taiwan with his mother. They keep in contact, but Elwyn ultimately decided to keep his English/Welsh name.
Cerys Cadwallader - Younger Sister [deceased]
Possibly one of the best things about Gwyn's childhood, Cerys and Gwyn were close in age with a year between them, and did everything together. However, when she passed away during childbirth when she was just nineteen years old, Gwyn refused to take in her child and instead sent him into foster care.
Sylvester Morrigan - Nephew
His sister's child, the two did not have contact for a long time but Gwyn checked in on the child from time to time when he was still young and in care, and never tried to contact him. Sylvester has reached out to him multiple times now, however, and he rejected him multiple times before finally giving in. The two exchange letters from time to time, but Sylvester is more interested in learning about his mother rather than Gwyn.
