Jingle Bell held her breath as a warm, but covered hand ran along her fur. She could have pulled away. She agreed with the boy's brother, being pet was insulting to say the least, but it seemed to calm the frantic fire demon, and something about the one with the strange voice said he needed more friends, much like Holliday, so she allowed it this time, and simply continued to groom herself. She allowed images of families and houses and farmlands and cities play across the minds of the boys, and willed the word "home" to plant itself in their dreams. She flicked her ears to prompt an answer, attempting any kind of what you would call "small talk" without being able to talk.

πICπ Norman glanced over at him, sighing slightly. "Hey...you understand what I'm saying nymphy?" Norman asked in his squeaky little squirrel voice. "You look pathetic. Do you uh need help or something? Maybe if you hadn't squirreled me, I could've helped you," he retorted, still quite upset about being in his squirrel form for dinner time. Dinner was one of his three favorite times of the day and he was stuck as a squirrel now.

Holliday took a seat beside the water nymph and chuckled as the squirrel took his place on the table. He wondered if the squirrel would need to eat acorns or something similar. He also idly questioned that there was a squirrel at his table at all... strange the boy seemed to flip that switch randomly. "What do you eat?" He blurted before he could practice his people skills.

Xanthe, confused, pulled his hand back. So that's what Holliday had meant by dreams... but he didn't understand what the images of strange places were supposed to mean. For some reason they made him think of his home, the black fortress with its dark halls and tapestries, and the deep rooms within the earth where fire demons shone brighter than lamps and smoke wafted up from the forges. His eyes flickered slightly. He reached out and touched her again, hoping for dreams of more familiar places.

Shafer's eyes had the down time to normalize at least a little bit. A thin ring of white surrounded the black and while some would argue that that is even more terrifying than the alternative, it was still progress. The aforementioned progress was swiftly dashed once he was talked to. He looked up and locked his gaze onto the squirrel, a small, frantic shake of his head telling the other boy that he definitely couldn't understand him. He let his eyes linger for a few seconds before he turned back to his job and jostled the leather straps, only making the situation worse. A small squeak fell from his lips when the band almost dropped to the floor.

πICπ "Home..." Nikolas repeated out loud. "Are you asking what my home is?" He questioned the cat, looking down at her before giving a genuine, toothy smile. "My brothers are my home. Wherever they are, so long as I am with them, I am home," he explained, still tugging at the grass. Though it was also nice for the bogeyman to have people who would be nice and love him despite his off putting experience.
-
Norman glanced over at Holiday. "Me? Or touchy touchy?" He asked, pointing a small little squirrel finger at Shafer. "I eat whatever I want," he added, looking over at the table full of food. "Just...just I have a harder time getting anything to eat in this stupid form. Who wants to be five inches tall and fluffy?" He questioned, voice full of disdain. He was a very bitter young teenager. Then he turned his attention back over to Shafer and shrugged slightly. Well...he wasn't going to help him then, besides-he couldn't do much as a squirrel...not that he could do a lot as a wimpy thirteen year old boy either.

Jingle Bell saw glimpses of a dark palace type place. She purred gently at the warmth of the creatures touch and danced dreams of children playing and parents laughing together across the boys mind. She wondered if he would remember more if his childhood and family. She enjoyed showing the orphans memories that would comfort them. They didn't need to forget their childhood to cope with what was happening. Her ears twitched in the direction of the other boy's voice, and she nodded in answer, and then did her best to do what they call smiling. For the bogeyman, she played memories she'd had of watching them grow up together here, and play together. She showed the day each of the four of them had landed in the courtyard.

Holliday raised an eyebrow at the angsty voice of the little squirrel. It was hard not to laugh at the high pitched squeaky voice, but Holliday managed. "I wouldn't mind being small and fluffy. Better places to hide when playing games. Easier for sneaking into the girls' dorms." He laughed, and then turned to the nymph. He held out his hands, offering to help him fasten the band.

Xanthe's eyes flickered as he saw images of his older brothers in their armor, telling him stories and bringing him back gifts. His father with his long hair, some of it wrapped up, leaning over maps. And his mother with her shorter hair, her ringed fingers pointing out their fortress on an expansive map. If only I could remember it, if only I could remember the map. He blinked away the dream-memories. "Thank you," He told the cat, giving her head a pet. Looking up at the other boy, he said, "I want to go eat now."

Shafer gave a pathetic sigh as he stared down at his work unseeingly. He'd reached his emotional peak of the day and everything was just downhill from here, wasn't it. Sad stuff. He took forever to drag his gaze up from his arms and when he did, he was immediately met with some kid, arms outstretched, and staring at him like he expected him to do something. His head moved a forward questioningly. "What do you want from me?" He grit the words out, really growing tired of this whole language barrier thing.

πOOC π Idk why it's like that.
πICπ Nikolas had to keep smiling at the memories. They were good, all good. He liked them and thinking back on them just made himself feel better, he would need to get back to his brothers soon. They would want to eat...he wondered if Norman had messed up her and was back to being a squirrel or if he had managed to stay genuine...probably not, he hardly ever was when there were other people. "Alright, we can go eat, watch out for the nymph," he warned the demon as he got up.
-
Norman shrugged, getting on all fours to scurry across the table and choose something to eat, though of course other people mind feel uncomfortable with a squirrel roaming around the table...but they could just deal with it. He was hungry and it wasn't like he wanted to be a squirrel. "I've never had much interest in girls, maybe I'm not old enough, or maybe being a squirrel half the time has something to do with it," Norman chirped in as he grabbed a roll in his paws and shoved it into one of his cheek pouches, sneaking two more rolls in before he started back over to his plate, cheeks now full of food.

Holliday got a little exasperated at the whole idea of trying to reason with strange being, and pulled the band from his hands. He pushed the nymphs hand against the table so he couldn't lash out and hit him or anything, and he very quickly tied the band over it's arms, pinning the strange webbed spines to it's forearm. "There." He said, gesturing toward the work that had been done. "You really don't get out much, and that's a lot coming from someone like me, I'm just saying." He began thinking to himself.. none of these orphans were from the same place, and none had the same background. Hell, most didn't even speak the same language. They needed a warlock or a witch to allow everything to understand each other. Maybe they'd find one. His head snapped up at the squeaky sound of the squirrel. "No interest in girls?? Not even girl squirrels?" He asked chuckling.

Getting to his feet and following, Xanthe waved slightly at the cat, wondering if it would follow. Then he turned back to the other guy, watching him closely from slightly behind. After a minute, he asked, "Are you an animal too?" He hadn't missed the animal features on the other two guys. At home, the creatures that'd he'd seen other than fire demons were ones that could endure the heat of the fortress. Strange things like dwarves and phoenixes and even chimeras and scorpion people. All sorts of things. But other than fiery sorts of things, and valuable prisoners of war, he hadn't seen many other species. Before today, he'd only heard and read about water nymphs.

Jingle Bell stood and shook herself from head to tail-tip as she readied herself to go to mess hall. She waited for the others to stand, and padded in the direction of the smell of food. Her mouth watered as she thought of the white tuna that would be on her plate when she showed up. Boy did she like the idea of that!! She'd almost all but forgotten the orphans behind her as she couldn't think of anything but the rumbling in her tummy. She hadn't realized what a long day it had been and how long it had been since she last ate!

Shafer stiffened so hard when the boy started moving him around, he was almost solid enough to not be moved at all. But of course, he wasn't the strongest of beings, and ultimately had to allow his arms to be placed wherever the hell this guy wanted them. He pouted deeply throughout the whole process and almost had a meltdown when his spikes were left exposed but was soon enough put at ease by the calmingly uncomfortable feeling of them pressing into his arm. His nose twitched as he heard the boy continue to talk. He still couldn't understand him. Taking his arms back into his own personal space, he just looked down at the table and pretended he couldn't hear him at all.

πOOC π Hey Ace, you coming back to hybrids tonight? Or nah?
πICπ Norman first took the rolls out and placed them gently on his plate, it wasn't gross-he was a squirrel, it was natural. "No, not even girl squirrels," he said plainly. "Girls aren't very interesting, that's it," he said with a shrug as he brought one roll up and began to nibble on it, letting out a content noise as he ate, waiting until the first roll was gone before he spoke again. "Did you like girls when you were thirteen?" He questioned, looking over at Holiday.

πICπ Nikolas paused, before he looked over at Xanthe. "No, I'm not part animal like Kai or Norman, I am a bogeyman," he said, looking down slightly as he shuffled his feet. "My name is Nikolas," he added, figuring he may need to introduce himself at one point. Though he had doubts that the demon even knew what a bogeyman was...which was good.

Holliday had to think about that. When he was younger, his dreams in the forest weren't filled with damsels in distress like they were now. He wanted to be a hero for the world, not for some girl. "No I guess not. It wasn't until I was fifteen that I started being extra nice to the girls that fell into the courtyard. So what's interesting to you? Trees? Acorns? You're still part squirrel even in your human form. But I witnessed your hissy fit when someone tried to touch your ears, so I assume you don't like being treated like an animal."

Xanthe squinted at him. The term 'bogeyman' wasn't familiar to him, and though the guy did have some sort of darkness around him that would've fit in fine with the other creatures at home, he clearly wasn't some sort of fire being. "What are your powers, Nikolas? Have you fought in the war?" Xanthe, however silver-tongued lmao more like gold-tongued he could be, was not having the best days and had therefore resorted to being fairly blunt. His stomach growled quietly and he was glad that they were almost to the "mess hall", judging by his nose.

Jingle Bell finally busted through her cat door installed beside the main double doors into mess hall, and she bounded happily to the end of the table, hopping gracefully up and burying her muzzle whisker deep in delicious tuna fish. She purred loudly, though the sound could be mistaken for a growl seeing as there were no soft squeaks to accompany the jagged breathing.. no vocal chords and all. She munched away at her dinner and licked her chops as she went. It was all rather unlady like, but in mess hall, Jingle Bell didn't care about being a lady. She cared about food.

(lmao Xanthe would probably assume anything with long hair is a guy, cause his mom is the only chick he knows and her hair is chin-length. Extreme confusion on why all these guys have such short hair. Did it get taken as a battle trophy? The nymph is the only one who makes sense. Maybe its a nymph thing.)

πOOC π Lmao, Norman's emotional and irrational enough for all of them.
πICπ Norman huffed and threw a piece of the roll at him. "That's because I'm not an animal, I'm just a cursed human stuck like this," he explained defensively, before shoving the rest of the roll in his mouth and chewing on it. Things Norman got defensive of were his size, his fluffiness, his squirrel tail and ears, is squirrel form, his squeaky voice, oh there was a long list. Far too long to go over in one post. His attitude really helped distract from his otherwise adorable appearance.
