Lucas stood in the middle of an aisle at a grocery store, staring at a paper list in his hand. The shopping cart just in front of him was nearly empty as he had only been there a few minutes, and he propped one foot up on the cart's bottom bar as he looked over the list again. Sure, grocery shopping wasn't his favorite thing to do, but he also wasn't going to argue about it. He was fortunate to be living with a family that didn't care about what he was; they only cared about who he was. The deal he had struck with them was fairly simple: you watch our kids when we need a night out and do things we ask you to, and we'll let you live here and not tell the police about you. It was a deal he was grateful for, especially with that horrid law in place. With it in place, it was nearly impossible to find a place to live or get a job, and if he was so lucky to have them, there was always the danger of being reported. It was easier to do what he did, as no one questioned him about what he was because "Oh, we know them, and they're definitely human, so he must be too." He looked up and over at the shelf nearest him and let out a sigh. He wasn't in the right aisle, and he really hated the layout of this store.

Skyress looked through the shelves, her arms raised above her head. Its quiet shocking that she got into the city. She was sent in by her father to scout the area for soon there would be an ambush. She never really liked the humans anyway, they stunk and didn't deserve to act as if they ruled everything. Unlike most vampires, she was born one, not created into one. She grew up knowing the humans were her enemy. Lost in thought, she knocked a few bags of chips off one of the shelf making a small racket. Giving a small chuckle, she shrugged and walked on, wasn't her job.
Sorry if this isn't terribly good xP)

Lucas rolled his eyes as he heard the noise. Just who does this person think - oh, crap. He stopped mid-thought, almost immediately recognizing Skyress as a vampire without even needing to turn his head to look at her. He let out another sigh, hoping she wouldn't try start a conversation with him. All he wanted to do was finish the grocery shopping and get home. While it wasn't extremely late yet, it was dark, and city residents tended to be more fearful at night. They were afraid of vampire attacks, though he seriously doubted that any vampire attempting to blend in with humans after the law was passed wanted to harm them. He adjusted the glasses he wore for show and set his foot on the ground, waiting for the other vampire to walk by him and not say a single word to him.

Skyress was hardly paying attention to what was going on around her until the scent hit her nose. She looked up to see Lucas standing there. With a grin, she stopped in front of him. "Well hello stranger, very odd to see someone like you out shopping." She looked down at the almost empty shopping cart.. "Very odd that you of all people would need any of this stuff. Is that why it barely has anything in it?" she suddenly smirked and stepped closer to him. "Oh wait, I see now. You're being bossed around by humans aren't you? They're letting the poor vampy stay as long as he does their chores." she scoffed and flipped her long brown hair. Her bright blue eyes shined with mischief. "Your lot s pitiful, doing what the humans want."

Any hope Lucas had for the conversation happening civilly was shot immediately after Skyress looked into the cart. His hand around the cart's bar tightened, threatening to warp the bar and snap its plastic covering. "And it's very odd to see someone like you in a grocery store," he retorted as he made eye contact with her. He released his grip from the cart and turned slightly to fully face her as he folded the shopping list in half and stuck it in his back pocket. "Oh wait, I see it now. You're judging someone and their life choices based on the first five seconds of an encounter with them." He fully intended to mock her with his first statement, as any thought of having a (somewhat) pleasant conversation with her disappeared as soon as she accused him of being bossed around by humans - which wasn't the case at all (from his point of view). "Do me a favor and get the hell out of my way. I don't need to deal with any [shoot] tonight."

Skyress just laughed at him. "Now now, I can't leave you just yet. You know this city pretty good I'm assuming." she smirked and raised her arms, placing her hands behind her head. "Why don't you be a good little vampy and show me around the place?" she asked almost sweetly. Her father had told her to scope out the city and considering she had only been around for a few days, she might as well attempt to get someone to show her around. "I mean, I just arrived here, I have no idea where I should go or not. I wanna be a good vampy like you." she pouted looking at him. Maybe playing cute would help her. "Pleaseeeeee."

The way she spoke and they way she seemed to be playing with him was enough for Lucas to respond with, "No. Absolutely not." He had made the mistake of showing a vampire around a city before, and while the result of that hadn't been too disastrous, it was enough for him not to repeat the action. Plus, he didn't want to be indirectly responsible for any trouble she might cause in the city. "If you really wanna get to know the city well, it's better for you to figure it out on your own." That was all the help he would give her despite her playing cute. Her overall tone was enough to make him suspicious. That, and he assumed if she truly wanted to be good, she wouldn't mention the word 'vampire' or any derivative of it in public. Just the word sent some people into a panic.

Skyress sighed and shrugged. "Alright then, I guess you're right." She gave him another smirk and turned on her heels. "Knowing how small this city actually seems to be, I'm sure we'll end up seeing each other again." she gave a small wave. "Have fun being a maid!" she called and walked out of the store. That didn't go the way I wanted but I should have expected that. Skyress thought as she walked down the sidewalk. Unlike in the stories, sun didn't kill vampires, they just don't enjoy the light. That's not going to be the last he sees me. I'll make sure he's on our side before the war begins. We need vampires in order to win.
So I looked up at the TV to see a silhouette of my cat on mythbusters, I was so confused xD)

(Your kitty is a MythBuster! XD)
Lucas shot Skyress a glare as she left the store. Once she was gone, he let out a sigh of relief and pulled the list out of his pocket. While she seemed to believe they would run into each other again, he didn't want to. Her mocking was enough to make him mad and want to start a fight, and that would more than likely blow his cover. He set his foot up on the lower bar of the cart as he looked over the list again. He would get this done.
About thirty minutes later, he was leaving the store with the store's reusable bags on his arms. He had walked to the store despite knowing how to drive because it was easier. That, and the name on his driver's license didn't match the name he was going by. Heck, he hadn't told anyone his actual name - not even the people he was living with even though they were fully aware of what he was. He hadn't wanted them to slip up and call him by the wrong name, especially in front of their young kids. He was soon 'home,' and after unlocking the door, he was met by two young girls screaming, "Uncle Danny!"

Skyress eventually found herself at an ice cream parlor. With her interest perked, she walked inside and looked around. A few minutes later, she walked back out with a vanilla ice cream cone. She continued down the street licking the ice cream, her mood seemed lighter than it had earlier. She rarely ever had ice cream and when she did, it was never homemade. She would do nearly anything for this delectable treat. Skyress stopped again at the gate of a park. Shrugging, she walked in and continued to look around. After all, she was technically suppose to be scouting the place out, that's exactly what she was doing.
It was very odd to see xD)

(I'm sure it was ^^)
"I need to get to the kitchen to put the groceries away," he said, watching as the girls each grabbed a leg to hug. "So get up." The girls listened, releasing his legs and standing. After walking into the kitchen, he set the groceries on the counter. Before he could get the cupboard open, he was handed a warm mug with blood in it. He knew it wasn't human blood, but he quite honestly didn't care. As long as he had blood, he wasn't going to complain. "Drink," the mother (whom I haven't named yet) said. "I'll put the groceries away." He nodded once and held the mug in both hands for a moment before bringing it up to his lips and taking a sip. A smile spread across his face as he closed his eyes. He heard the girls come into the kitchen, and before they came up to him, their mother said, "Let him have a few minutes to himself." Lucas opened his eyes again and took another sip from the mug as he leaned back against the counter, enjoying the momentary peace. He finished the blood in the mug, washed it out, and put it in the dishwasher before heading toward the living room where the girls were playing.

(Well, I think they need to talk again, but instead of her mocking him, she's more persuasive and seductive. And maybe he's with the girls so he has to behave? Or maybe we introduce some more characters, like someone who's planning this war with her or a cop/hunter who sympathizes with him. I can see the big picture plot with the war and all, but I can't see how to get there right now :/)

Skyress sighed and stretched after she had finished her ice cream. Now she was bored and didn't feel like exploring anymore. With a slight yawn, she located the closest tree in the park and climb to the lowest branch. There she leaned against the trunk of the tree and closed her eyes. Maybe I can meet that little vampy again and convince him to show me around. She thought as she lightly dozed. It wasn't like she had a place to stay anyway. She usually ended up sleeping in a tree which was fine by her.

Lucas sat on the couch behind the girls as they played. He let out a sigh as he picked up a blanket that had been lying on the couch and wrapped it around his body. He only half-listened to what the girls were saying as they weren't talking to him. The mother sat beside him on the couch, giving him a look to question how he saw. He gave her a weak smile and a head shake before speaking in a low voice so the girls couldn't hear him. "Ran into someone like me at the store. I don't trust her." Her look faltered as she spoke, making sure to keep her voice low. "I'm sure you're fine," she said, reaching to rub his knee reassuringly. "Just stay out of trouble, okay." He nodded once before pushing a hand through his hair and turning his attention to the girls. He didn't look up as the father walked into the room and sat on the other side of his wife. The father picked up the television remote and turned the TV on before flipping to a program they watched together. After it finished, Lucas said good night to the family and went to bed for the night. Once sunrise came, he was awake. He was in the habit of taking a morning run because it relaxes him. The morning was cool, so he was dressed in shorts and a tight long-sleeved shirt. As he left the house, he grabbed a house key and left to go toward the park. He didn't leave a note because the husband and wife knew this was part of his routine, and they didn't question it. Once at the park, he began jogging. He didn't worry about his pace, as he intentionally kept himself at a jog that no human would question.

As the sun rose Skyress grumbled slightly. She hadn't meant to sleep the whole night on that branch. Slowly opening her eyes she stretched and yawned. Blinking a couple of times she looked around and taking in her surroundings. She noticed someone jogging but didn't really give them any mind. She hopped out of the tree and landed lightly on her feet. Suddenly the scent his her nose cause her to smirk. Her head whipped back around to the person jogging as she recognized who it was. With a slight sway in her hips, she walking over to the track and stopped to where Lucas could see there. "Well good morning sweetheart! Who would have thought we'd actually run into each other again?" She flipped her hair over her shoulder and watched to see how he would react to their meeting.

As Lucas heard Skyress, he looked over at her with narrowed eyes. Oh, he was wishing he had headphones now, so he would have maybe been able to play off not hearing her. He jogged over to her before speaking. "I'm not your sweetheart," he said flatly as he crossed his arms. "And don't you have something better to do, like not interfering in my life?"

Skyress shrugged slightly and started to twirl a piece of her hair. "In all honestly I have nothing else to do." She stepped slightly closer to him and smiled sweetly at him. "But u wouldn't consider this 'interfering.' All I want is for a little tour around the city, not much." She batted her eyelashes at him hoping for the best. "I mean, I guess you don't have to show me around." Skyrest sighed light and bacred up a couple of steps. "I forgot, you don't really trust me much." She looked down at her feet acting as if she were slightly shy.

Dammit, why was she doing this to him? Lucas would have had an easier time telling her "No" if she had used an attitude like she had the previous night, but now she was acting sweet. Were her actions genuine, or was this an act to get what she wanted? "Dammit," he mumbled under his breath, unfortunately verbalizing the internal struggle. He looked over at her and let out a sigh. "What the hell do you actually want?" He asked, deciding that he was suspicious of the shift in behavior over the course of the night. "Because, quite honestly, I'm not sure who you really are."

Skyress looked up at him slightly. "I just wanted to know more about this city. I've been told it's a nice place to stay as long as no one knows what you are." She placed her hands behind her back and looked up at the sky. "In all honestly, I'm the daughter of Edwin Wolf. (let's pretend he's like some big bad vampire that's know all around xD) They kicked me out of the clan after I told them I no longer wanted to feed off human, after I told them I actually wanted to be good." Skyress was surprised at her story she had just made up but she kept going with it. "All I want is a nice place to stay and after hearing stories of this city, I wanted to check it out." She shrugged. "But it's fine that you don't trust me, not many people do." She turned her back to him to hide her slight smirk. Maybe this would work in her favor.

(I don't think your phone hates you.)
Lucas didn't say anything as Skyress told her story, and he still didn't know if he could trust her. While she had been convincing in telling her story, he knew it was just as easy to tell the truth as it was to lie for some. As she mentioned her father, a brief look of disgust crossed his face. His parents had told him stories about what her father had done to vampires who didn't share his values. His father had more stories to tell than his mother, and when Lucas had asked why that was, the only response he got was that the two men had been close up until around the time his parents had gotten married. "Dammit," he mumbled again, trying to come up with an explanation for the shift in attitudes. Well, maybe she had the attitude last night because that was who she was, but she was trying to be a good person, which explained her current shyness. "I don't think many people would trust me if they knew what I was," he said. "I guess I can show you around."

Skyress perked up at this and turned around to look at you, her eyes shines slightly. "Really? You will?" She smiled at him, this was going just as she hoped. By the time he shows her around, she can report back to her father. In reality, her and her father didn't have a good relationship, he wanted a son but ended up with her. She offered to go to the city in hopes of gaining respect from him. She hoped to not be shamed anymore. "If you didn't know, I'm Skyress."
Random thought, what if he just sent her in to get her out of the way and the bad vampires decided to storm the city without her? Does that make sense?)

Post by Misty on Jan 4, 2017 17:10:02 GMT -5
(Yeah, it makes sense, but I really don't care for it. I feel like that would give her motive for maybe switching sides, and I don't care for that.)
"Yeah, sure," Lucas said as he pushed a hand through his hair. What could be the harm in showing her around if she genuinely wanted to live in the city? It briefly occurred to his that this could be a mistake much like one he made a few years prior. In fact, the only difference was who was asking him for a tour of the city. Well, it was too late to tell her "No" now, but maybe he didn't have to show her the entire city. In fact, he didn't have enough time to do that now. He needed to be back by a certain time if he didn't want anyone to worry about him. After she gave her name, he gently bit his lip as he debated giving her his real name. He decided against it. Everyone in the city knew him as Danny, and he didn't need anyone to find a hole in his story. "And I'm Danny," he smoothly lied.

What would you suggest should happen to lead up to the war?)
Skyress smiled again. "Thank you so much Danny. It means alot to me." She bounced slightly on her heels like a little girl. "I'm sorry for how I acted yesterday." She bent her head down slightly as she apologized. "I hadon't no reason to say those things." She could honestly care less of how she acted or what people thought of her, as long as she was getting her job done she didn't care. She lifted her head back up and looked at him, as much as she hid it, a little bit of mischief still shown in her bright blue eyes but not enough to be noticed by many. "So shall we go now or would you like to finish your jog?" Skyress asked cooking her head to the side slightly.

(Well, I was thinking that Skyress and a friend could plan something for the war and help lead. Her target then would be Lucas because, despite acting like she doesn't hate him, she hates him and his lifestyle. And maybe Lucas gets in trouble with the police because someone gets suspicious of him.)
"No problem," Lucas said as he ran a hand through his hair. "And don't worry about it," he added as he pushed his sleeves up to his elbows, liking the feeling of the cool morning air hitting his forearms. He would have loved to have worn a short-sleeved shirt to jog, but he assumed someone would have become suspicious of him if he had worn a short-sleeved shirt and shorts. "Let's go now," he said, motioning for her to follow him. He didn't mention that he needed to be home around a certain time, and he didn't want her to know that.
