"It's a cute town that's for sure." She looked around at the nearby buildings. All of them were small, she noticed. "This is actually the smallest town I've been to. Do you maybe want to get some food with me? I'm so bad at cooking I can't even use the microwave!" She chuckled.

"Yeah, sure. There's a small cafe right over there, and it's pretty good," Charles said, pointing. He was glad the topic changed to getting food. He knew the best places, both cheap and expensive. "I could pay for it, since you're new in town. And don't try to say no." He glanced at her, hoping that him paying would be okay.

(Sorry, my internet is horrible)
"Are you sure? I can pay if you want." She felt guilty not paying for her own food. She always had before. As Madi was never really taken anywhere by anyone...

"Nah, I got it," Charles insisted. He took the lead to go to the cafe, waving at some of the people outside of it. It wasn't a surprise that the people knew him. He went to the cafe a few times as well, and was a familiar face there. The food was cheaper, and overall the cafe was a good place to go for someone new to the town.

Madi looked at the cafe from ceiling to floor. It was quaint and cute. She hadn't been to something like this in a while. It was nice to change it up, but she felt like the odd one out when others started waving to Charles. It would probably be a while before she got to know most of the folks in town. She stared up at the overhead menu above the counter. For the most part it was mainly sandwhiches, breakfast and lunch type, with salad, soups, and coffee. *Cute* she thought. "What are you getting?"

Charles shrugged. "Probably the special," He replied. It was the fried ham and cheese, which currently sounded good to him. He decided on a water to drink. He didn't need caffeine at the moment. He pulled out his wallet, checking how much money he had. It should be more than enough for both of them, and Charles was glad he remembered to bring it.

(Okay, kewl)
She paused for a moment, not knowing how everything tasted she just went with what she knew. "I guess just a cup size of the soup of the day. I don't feel like anything too filling." She decided on that. She figured it could help her out in a couple ways: 1. She usually feels self conscious about what other people think if her when she has large meals 2. Soup can't be too messy unless she spilled it on herself And 3...eh, she'll think of one later.

"Okay," Charles said, stepping in line. The line was only a couple people, and in barely any time at all it was their turn. "I'll have the special," he told the cashier, pulling out his money. "She'll have the soup of the day, cup size." Charles didn't question Madi's choice. He actually didn't think of it at all.

The clerk rang up their total on the cash register. "That'll be $10.86 please" she said with a smile. Madi figured he knew her already too. Or she was just being a friendly clerk

Charles handed over the twenty he pulled out. Getting back his change and the receipt, he smiled back at her. Sure enough, he knew her, as they went to the same school until she had graduated. Usually he would ask her how things were going, but he was already feeling awkward trying to hang out with Madi, so the last thing he needed was to start a conversation with yet another girl.

Madi chose a spot outside on the patio of the café so she could look at the fountain while she ate. Once Charles sat down she asked a couple questions she had on her mind, "What's the school like? Like the behavior of the students and all."

Charles shrugged. "Well, the school is cool. The classes are good, even if not all the teachers are. And there are a bunch of activities to do, like sports and clubs. The other kids are awesome, except for a couple douches," He explained. "In such a small town, people tend to be nice, since you're more than likely going to see the person you talk to again."

"Well that's nice. What are the math teachers like? The only ones I've had don't like me." She smiled broadly. It was true, and she thought it was quite hilarious how they would suck up to other students but then treat her differently.

"Like any other teachers, I guess," Charles replied. "I mean, we have three math teachers. One is fun, and jokes around with everyone. He's also super chill. Then there's one who is nice, and she tries to help out. She's really good. And the last is super strict. No one messes with her, but also no one can argue about her methods. The average grade total in her class is a 98, and I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a failing grade on her finals."

"Maybe I should go to her! You'll probably laugh but my grade average in math is like in the low to mid 70s." She laughed. Madi wasn't ashamed of her grades in math, only because that's not one of her strong points. But in everything else she wouldn't be laughing about it

Charles laughed. "Maybe you should," He said, smiling. "She's super tough, but her explanations are good. When I was in her class, my grades dropped, but I went in for help. And if you get too low of a grade on her test, she'll make you go in for an entire week of review classes."

"I'm sure she can't MAKE me, but I will probably end up going anyway. So what are the art classes like? I love to draw and have already gotten a couple scholorships for it." Art was extremly important to her, and to her family. Her mom was the only one out of her other siblings to possess her mother's art gene and same with her as well.

"Well, I don't know much about the art classes," Charles admitted. "I know my sister does some of them, but I myself don't. I've never been much of an artist." He never really cared for art. He stopped as soon as he could. As far as he was concerned, Charles only cared about the sports he was in, and the small band the school had.

"Guess I'll have to find out when I get there then huh?" She was concerned inside but acted like it didn't phase her. "What kind of extra circular classes do you do?"

"I play in the band," Charles replied. "On the trumpet. I also do sports, mainly swimming, but I also do track as a sprinter." He always felt self conscious about that, as all his track friends were also in cross country and ran distance. But Charles was always trying to better his swimming abilities, and was going into diving, so he had less time for running.

"That's really cool. I do long distance, but not cross country just anything like the mile at a track meet or longer. I also used to do cheerleading in my other schools, believe it or not!" She liked to do cheerleading but hated the girls on her squad Madi was the loudest and jumped the best but they still try to correct her on...everything!

"We have a cheerleading team here," Charles replied. "It's a small team, but they go to every game and meet to cheer on the teams. I bet you could rejoin if you wanted to." He knew all of them, and had three good friends on the team. He knew they tried their best to be everywhere at once, and he even remembered a time when the team split into two groups to go to two games going on at the same time.

"It's because we're a small town," Charles replied. "We don't have much to do, so to keep kids from getting in trouble the school gives a lot of activities. It helps too, since it gets scholarships for colleges a long ways away. And no one seems bothered by the fact that they have to help raise money for the school. Some kids even put in their allowances for the clubs to stay."

"Yeah," Charles replied. "I was born here, but my parents moved here. They met when they both ran for mayor years ago. My mom won, but they ended up getting together and having me and my sister. They only recently ran again, and this time my dad won, and my mom's his secretary."

She chuckled, "Guess things worked out didnt they?" She gave a broad smile and looked down to see her soup gone *did I finish it already?* she thought to herself. Madi pushed the bowl toward the middle of the table so someone would pick it up later.

"In a strange way," Charles replied, finishing his sandwich. He leaned back in his seat. "And what about you? I've been talking about the town and myself, but I don't know much about you except your name and the fact you just moved here. Well, that and your math grade." He smiled at her. "So what's your family like?"
