Skylar should have said no the moment her roommate said the word "party". She'd seen all of those movies, knew darn well the horrendous mess she was going to come home to. How many drunk students would she have to boot from her apartment? How much vomit would she have to scrub from her carpeting? She shuddered at the thought. Agreeing to this had been a bad idea.
But instead of 'no,' her answer when her roommate had asked to throw a party was "sure, I don't see why not." She'd had prior plans anyway, so she had been out the door when the first guests had begun to arrive at seven.
Rather than spending the night boozing it up, Skylar had met up with her parents at one of their favorite restaraunts. She'd had shrimp linguini, a few sips of wine. Had delivered the obligatory "Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad" Hallmark card. Then she'd crashed in the bed she hadn't slept in since high school.
She was out the door by the time dawn broke, and now she pulled into her usual parking spot just outside the door to her apartment. She climbed the few steps to the front door, unlocked it, and stepped inside. As expected, the living room was trashed. Sighing, she vowed to clean it later as she trudged toward her room.
Unexpectedly, her door was open. Cautiously, she crept down the hall and peeked inside, half expecting to find her bed occupied by a pair of drunk not-exactly-lovers.
Instead, she found a boy, curled up in a fetal position on her floor. Well, at least he hadn't thrown up. Sighing, she walked over and poked him with her foot. "Hey, kid. Wakey-wakey time."

He didn't know how long he'd been there, but Jonas was less-than-pleased at being roused from his half-doze. He groaned quietly and curled up tighter for a moment, before he rolled onto his belly and pushed himself up onto all fours. Whoa. Too fast. While his stomach took a moment to flip over and over, he blinked open his eyes and winced at the light, flicking his gaze to see who was disturbing him.
"No thank you," he said, and let himself flop on the floor again, swallowing thickly. Ew. His throat felt rough and he did not exactly enjoy being awake right now. Was he even alive? He attempted to get up and succeeded, this time, standing to his full height and swaying only slightly.
Honestly, Jonas wasn't impressive - he was average height but lean and lightly build, his dark hair was currently a mess and his eyes squinted against the light. After a couple of moments of swaying, he let his gaze sweep around the floor, but didn't find his shirt. Awesome. He could've sworn he'd worn it when he fell asleep - though it was possible he'd taken it off, considering he'd blacked out. Bad idea.
Next, his gaze swept to the woman who'd woken him, eyes still squinting against the light. He made a vague gesture with his hand, but didn't emphasise what it meant. His brain was sluggish, not yet prepared for the task of social interaction. Then again, social interaction, he'd learned recently, was not his forte, and had probably never been his forte. Lulled into a false sense of security. Damn it.
"Can I throw up in your bathroom real quick?"

Niko was not a homeless man. In fact, he had a decent apartment, which he slept in often; but the abandoned warehouse held something of a homely atmosphere. Perhaps it was the few gang members who came back and forth while running jobs, or maybe it was the fact that he had chosen it. This was his. The people in his gang were those he trusted, and there was nothing he enjoyed more.
He lit a cigarette and held it lightly between his lips, picking at the torn fabric of his jeans and staring absently in front of him. Presently, the man sat outside the warehouse (a few of the members didn't enjoy the smell of smoke, and he wanted them to be comfortable), the light breeze ruffling his dark hair. After a slow exhale, he tapped some ash from the cigarette and tilted his head back, looking up to the grey sky.
Cloudy and grey and ready to rain - as usual. Niko sniffed lightly and stood up, kicking the steel toe of his boot into the hard ground and walking forward. The frosty grass crunched beneath his feet and the city was nothing but noise in the background. They were safe here, where it was quiet and enjoyable. He ducked underneath the chainlink fence (which had been broken long ago), and continued to wander along the familiar, grassy path to the junkyard. It was a vital part of the entrance - hard to find a way to the warehouse without it, considering the train tracks behind the warehouse. It was nice. Safe.
Once he was in the junkyard, he took another drag from his cig and kicked aside a can, metal clinking as it skittered aside. He gave a half-smile and ducked his head, seeking the camping chair that he often sat on here. When he found it, he nodded and sat down lightly, crossing one leg over the other and, once again, staring into the distance.
There was something resembling stability in his life. Sure, it wasn't honest nor was it gentle, but it was something he loved and he was doing it with people he cared for. His only worry, at the moment, was that a local gang had been completely shut-down by the police. As a rule, the police ignored them. Their business was their own, if they got caught, then it was their own fault...but this had felt wrong, in a way. False reports were likely, which meant that the surrounding gangs had gone quiet in an attempt to shove away any police suspicion. Niko's did the same. They were not cowardly, but they knew when to back down from a fight that they could not win. Stubbornness was one of Niko's traits, but stupidity was not.
Perhaps someone was out to get the gangs, or perhaps it had been something personal to the other gang leader. What had his name been? Niko couldn't remember. He half-closed his eyes and hummed tunelessly, content to sit here until he'd finished thinking.

Skylar crossed her arms in disapproval, though she didn't say a word as she waited for him to get up. She frowned as she examined him, her eyes scanning him from head to foot.
Honestly, she herself was likely a more impressive sight than the kid in front of her. Tall. Well built. She had fiery ginger hair pulled into a ponytail and blue eyes sharp enough to cut butter. You could call her attractive, in a way; the kind of girl who looked like she could pick up any guy she wanted to, except she also looked like the kind of chick who'd beat up any kind of guy who tried to hit on her.
One thing was for sure: she was not impressed with this kid's cheek.
For a moment, she was silent. In a way, she almost felt bad for him. He looked awful, in that awkward hung over sort of way. She knew the feeling, and it wasn't a good one.
Then, relenting, she stepped out of the doorway. "Better my toilet than my floor, I suppose," she grunted. "It's the first door on your right. And try to find your shirt while you're at it, too."

Jonas gave what was probably supposed to be a thumbs-up but ended up in a small huff and and a hiccup, and he moved past her and to the bathroom. He closed the door behind him and spent a good five minutes removing too much alcohol from his systems before washing his mouth out and exiting.
His next task, of course, was to find his shirt. After a brief check of the apartment, he shook his head and moved back to where the woman had been, shoulders lifting in a small shrug.
"Jeg - uh, I don't think my shirt is here. There is an impressive amount of underwear stashed under your couch, though. Might have someone trying to hide stuff there," his voice was still slow and sluggish and quiet, and he felt like his throat was burning. Terrible night. Awful. Why did he say yes to the party? Who had let him?
Oh. Right. Yes. He'd done it to try to get a social life. He squinted thoughtfully at the floor, still swaying on his feet - before deciding that standing was too much effort and letting himself slide to the floor. One hand pulled through dark brown hair and his eyes flitted back and forth between his legs, glad for at least the coverage his jeans provided. He found himself nodding off as he counted freckles on his torso, but woke himself quietly and tilted his head back to look at the woman again.
"You weren't here...last night," he commented thoughtfully. "'nless you appeared halfway through."

(Please excuse any mistakes my iPad is being glitchy ^^')
Kaden didn't have much of a choice. He never would have seen himself in this position, so low down again after coming so far. He had been on the top, his gang was feared and well known with respect in this city. He had crawled through the ranks at age sixteen and now was their leader at they young age of twenty two. People respected him, saw that he wasn't just some kid messing around and had strategic skills that made him a force to be reckoned with. Yet somehow it had slipped through his fingers.
He didn't know how or why, what he had done wrong. He went over and over it in his head, calculating and recalculating. Had there been a mole? Unlikely, the only ones with access to information were deathly loyal. He was picky about who he let in and only cared for those who were willing to work hard, same as he had, he knew his selections were right because now his friends, his brothers and sisters, were sitting in a jail cell because of him.
He clenched his fists tightly at the thought, knuckles white and breathing shallow before he could gather himself. He could fix this, with a major blow to his pride he could work to make this better. That was the problem, Kaden's pride was important to him and he didn't like the thought of compromising it. He ran bloody fingertips through his hair then pulled his hood back up and continued on his path. The air was damp and his hands cold in the night, he pulled out his lighter and lit a cigarette. Many people smoked in the city so he wasn't too concerned about drawing attention to himself.
He knew where he need to go, he had just found the place about a week or toe ago and had been planning an ambush, but he had held off and now he was glad he did. He kept his head low as he came to this part of town, this wasn't his territory and seeing his face would get him more of a beating than he had already received. He ran over his plan in his mind again, this was his only way of calming himself and planning was important to him. He saw his destination in the distance and crouched lower now, his hand behind him where a gun was tucked into his wasteband, just incase they weren't in a talking mood. He took a deep breath the continued to a broken fence, silently being grateful he had such a skill for silence.
Niko was his rival and he had a reputation, but out of all his rivals this was Kaden's best shot. He kept his hand on his gun as he approached and walked slowly as to keep the gravel from crunching beneath his feet. He wouldn't draw the weapon though, something about having someone put a gun to your head and say 'hey let me join you' wasn't exactly appealing. With any luck, Niko hadn't heard what had happened and nobody knew the full truth, so he could make his case.
"Quite the set up you've got here." He spoke then, his voice low and confident as usual. Of course the confidence was a front now, but it wouldn't help him to have anyone know that. "I need to ask a favor." He stepped into the light now, grey eyes unreadable, but there was a storm in them, something desperate he hadn't experience since childhood.

( dont worry about it !! i have full respect for you even typing on mobile honestly )
The cigarette burned close to his fingertips and so he stubbed it out, fingers aching to reach for another one but mind knowing that it was not a good thing to fall back into bad habits. He turned his head and coughed into his shoulder, and leaned back into the camping chair. It tilted back slightly, but that was of no concern. It wasn't as if falling over would hurt his reputation, not in a place as quiet as this.
That, of course, had been what he had thought - but the second that the man spoke, he was back to full alertness. He stood up to his full height and frowned at him, brain scanning for facial features. It took him a few moments to place the face - right, bordering gang leader. Was this the one that had been shut down? He wasn't quite sure, so, with a fluid movement, he pulled out what looked to be a strip of metal - but his fingers twitched and, with a click, the knife revealed itself. A balisong. His favourite weapon, by far. Small and easy to conceal, but as sharp as any other good knife.
"A favour," he repeated, voice soft and warm despite his sharp appearance. He shifted his weight between his legs and considered it thoughtfully, swiping his tongue over his lower lip briefly. As he did so, the dim lighting caught on metal, hinting at a tongue piercing.
The favour could be anything, he noted. He did not enjoy that thought, and so he shook his head slowly, free hand pushing back some of his hair and gaze scanning over the man carefully. He still couldn't figure out what his name was. Was it...K-something? Probably. He didn't know. Didn't pay attention to the names of his rivals. Niko inhaled and narrowed his gaze further, taking a single step towards the other man.
"What sort of favour do you think I would give you? I owe you nothing," despite the almost-sleepy tone of voice, there was a sharp hint behind there. A warming, soothing voice that hid knives. A promise of pain if lied to, but comfort if told the truth. That was how he was. By default, Niko was not a liar, did not enjoy being lied to. Years spent around liars had taught him the telltale signs, and so he watched out for those. "Show me both of your hands. If this is an ambush, it will not work very well."
If there was one thing his entire gang agreed on, it was that if Niko was attacked or killed, they would not step in unless they could win. The gang held priority over Niko himself, and he refused to be seen as more important. Even a hostage situation would call for him being killed over his gang being disbanded or taken down. His family were important. It made him wonder how someone could be so careless as to get theirs disbanded. Was this really the man who'd had it happen? Honestly, Niko couldn't tell. Didn't keep up on much beyond the idle gossip. His territory was a quiet place, so gossip was here and there between his gang members, nothing more. Maybe an old lady by a bus stop. Maybe a corrupt cop who felt the need to protect them. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Once again, he ran his tongue over his lower lip and tapped his foot on the ground, eyebrows raising slightly as he waited.

(It's kinda the worst not gonna lie haha that's why it takes me so long sometimes also I was looking for a fc! I love Niko's btw he's great in HTGAWM! I'm thinking either Tom Webb, Victor Norlander or AJ Abualrub and I can't decide which is best, thoughts?)
Kaden could tell he wasn't recognized on site, which frustrated him, he had built a name for himself and who was Niko to be above knowing it? But on the other hand, this was good for him, less recognition was better he needed to stay hidden from the cops and anyone else who was no after him so a rival not being sure of who he was, was actually a good sign.
He tensed at the click of the knife, a sign he recognized well, but it was to be expected. He was a rival in someone else's territory if it were Kaden he would have pulled a weapon too and probably would be less up for a discussion. He watched the man think, he sounded almost bored, but it didn't fool Kaden, he could close the space between them in a few seconds, much quicker than he would have a chance to fire the gun. His jaw clenched, the muscle visible through high cheekbones and he exhaled through his nose. "If I were here to kill you, wouldn't I have shot you already." He rolled his eyes and revealed his hands and as a show of good faith his gun as well.
He put the weapon on the ground and kicked it to the side, of course it wasn't his only weapon, but his hands were now visible and he didn't move when Niko stepped forward. He was taller than the other man, lankier too. He pulled his hood down and ran his hand through his hair. "I know you don't owe me anything, but I'm still asking." He said flatly, it obviously was a lot for him to be there and now that his hood was down it was easier to see the cut above his eyebrow and bruised lip in addition to various other scrapes and bruises.
"Are you going to listen or am I wasting my time here?" He demanded.

( omg are you my dream person ?? ur into trc, aftg AND htgawm this is a dream come true loving victor norlander honestly ?? hes cute as hell & 10/10 impressive jawline )
Truth be told, Niko enjoyed denying outsiders things. It was hilarious how a small word like 'no' could cause so much frustration, but something told him that he wasn't being asked out of maliciousness or of the man's own free will, but of...desperation? Definitely desperation. He remembered a few others from his own gang, when they first arrived. It had been before he'd been leader, but he remembered how they'd looked as desperate people, how well they were doing now. With a long sigh and a glance to the gun, before he flipped his balisong closed and pocketed it once again.
"You'd be surprised at how many people prefer talking over simply shooting," he commented drily, before he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
He could hear the other man out. Favours were something that would have to be later paid, and having someone owe him would be good. Cashing it in whenever he felt like it? The ideal. With any sort of luck, it wouldn't be something huge - if it was giving up land or members, then it was a definite no, but if it was something more interesting? Possibly.
"I'll listen," he decided, crossing his arms and tilting his head. "So talk fast," he paused for a moment. One more chance to flick through the names and...K....K...Kay? Karl? No, this guy didn't look like a Karl. Maybe it was Kris. Ah! He had it! "Kaden."

(Wowwowooww were meant to be friends! Yes! That's what I was leaning for Victor it is I was there for that jawline too~)
Kaden kept the pleased look off his face when Niko finally recognized his name. He watched the man put away his knife then his eyes flecked back up to meet his. He wasn't sure how much to tell, certainly not the whole tale, but enough to allow the man to put some faith into him. He exhaled and pulled out a fresh cigarette, lighting it up and taking a deep breathe. It calmed him, when this story certainly didn't.
"I obviously wouldn't be here if I didn't need to be. My crew.." He trailed off a bit eyes to the sky for a moment then he clenched his jaw a moment and continued. "They're compromised. All of them. Happened the other night, police stormed in no warning and took the place down. Whoever wasn't shot is now incarcerated. I don't know what mistake I made, but they got us." He explained and shook his head in contempt. It was hard to tell if that disgust was with himself or the police.
He tapped his cigerette and watched the sparks a moment, the next part was the hardest. It was hard enough telling the story, admitting failure for what he had worked in blood to build and that he had failed those he cared about most. Now he had to get on his knees and start all over again. "So I'm here now, I need protection, I need a crew to run with." He kept his steel eyes locked on Niko's green pair, the cigarette once again between his lips then back to his fingers, he worse fingerless gloves for convenience on the job. He exhaled the smoke slowly and waited.

( u can never escape now >:3c locked in 4 lyf my dude a beauty , honestly )
There was no hint of emotion on Niko's face as he listened. He considered how he'd feel if he saw his gang die or be arrested - it would hurt like hell. It wasn't a nice thing to think about. He inhaled slowly through his nose and tilted his head back thoughtfully, eyebrows pulling up. Was this...an ex-gang leader of a rival gang asking him to join? He pulled his pack of cigs out and chose one, putting it between his lips before lighting it.
He took a long, slow drag, unable to refrain from having another. He tapped his foot, a light movement that happened as he thought about his options. On one hand, Niko could outright reject Kaden and be amused at the results, or he could take him in and have him at his mercy and have a return favour that he could cash in at any point in time.
The pros outweighed the cons; he didn't doubt that Kaden would be useful, and it would definitely be more interesting to have him around.
"Two questions," he said, after a long moment. "One. Do you have a place to stay? My gang do not crash in this warehouse as much as we use it; it's cold and damp. I can find a place if you need one. Two. You're aware that in this gang, you'll start from the bottom, correct? As long as you do as you're told, I have no problems with you staying."
Niko tapped the ash from his cigarette, before stubbing it out entirely. He didn't particularly want to finish the entire thing, not right now. The decision to take Kaden in was a risky one, but a risk he was willing to take to find out what was going on; or just to have someone owe him.

(I don't want to escape I'm thrilled! <33 Yes a true hottie with wonderful black and white photos SOS got stuck in a political conversation with my dad and couldn't escape)
Kaden smirked slightly, he found the statement ironic since here he was again, kicked down like a pathetic dog to be killed having to hold on to his life by bloody fingers. He knew how to do it, he had just gone so long having a family, being on top, it was horrible to lose that and have it taken in one night. "Yeah, I can work my way up. Done it before." He replied smoothly.
He hated this, putting himself in someone else's mercy, somewhere he wouldn't be welcome and to be on the bottom again no less. But he would do what he needed to, if not for himself, them for his family in prison, taking the bullet for him. If he turned himself it, they wouldn't be freed, the onto way he could help them was to put himself in this man's hands and ask for help. It was a major blow to his pride, but one he could certainly recover from. He counted himself lucky Niko had chosen not to humiliate him and turn him away, or shoot on site.
"I don't have anywhere anymore." He admitted, not to happy by how pathetic those words sounded leaving his lips. He ran a hand over his mouth, fidgety and agitated to be saying that, but it was truth and if these two had anything in common then the other gang leader would value honesty. He hadn't expected the conversation to go this well, or to be accepted, but he wasn't sure about how the other members would react to his presence.
He wondered what he'd do in this crew. He had done some of the worst jobs in his old crew before rising to leader, and he would do them again. Except this time he wasn't trying to make something out of nothing and lead a crew, he was trying to free his friends and clear his name. It wouldn't be an easy feat.

( good wahey its still so surreal to meet someone who knows abt aftg?? i have like one friend into it and im still trying to get others into it but bc it can be triggering its like. oh boi a beautiful man cannot save ur soul im 2 sleepy )
Niko seemed to entirely dismiss the comment about rising up, considering that he didn't know what to say about it. It was unlikely, he decided, that Kaden would rise very far. The entire system in his gang was built on trust and how the rest of the gang viewed them, which meant that in the end, it was Niko who gave the promotions. He did not see Kaden as a man worthy of that.
"Hm," he considered it lightly, drumming his fingers against his leg. "You can stay with me until you find your feet."
It was proof that he was confident that the other man wouldn't kill him in his sleep - or an open admission that he didn't sleep often. Either way, he knew that if this ex-gang leader needed his help, he needed him alive. Niko liked that idea. He tapped his foot lightly and looked to the sky, taking note of the setting sun and the thickening clouds. It would rain soon. He began to walk and jerked his head ahead of him slightly, eyebrows raising.
"Come on. You can meet the rest of the gang tomorrow. You look like hell," Niko kept his back to Kaden, another cocky admission that he knew that he was needed alive. The gang wouldn't take in someone who had murdered their leader, and he doubted that other gangs would either, if word got out. There were many things that kept him safe in this situation and he loved all of them.

Kaden arched a brow at that, the surprise clear on his face as he worked out Niko's angle. Likely to keep an eye on him, he was an ex-leader of a rival here on mysterious circumstances who was obviously somewhat shady as most new members were. Then he scowled a bit at the next thought, it was to toy with him. Kaden was now at his will, he had no power here in Niko's crew, or against him because he needed the man's help. It was revolting, even more so because he could do and say nothing about it. Kaden wasn't a man to put his tail between his legs and be submissive to someone, but his friends needed this if they had any chance of being free. He took another drag of his cigarette then tossed it aside and clenched his jaw tightly before choking out a, "Thanks."
He picked up his gun from the ground and tucked it back into the wasteband of his jeans then pulled his shirt and jacket down over the weapon to conceal it. He chewed the inside of his lip, still frustrated and resisting saying something he would regret. "I'm fine." Was his unenthusiastic reply. He had hoped the hard part would be asking to join, now he was sure the rest would be worse with Niko's cocky attitude. Maybe he should have gone to somebody else.
He kept his hands in his pockets, mouth set in obvious distaste, but as much as he disliked it he had to keep his head down, it wouldn't get him nowhere to mouth off and disrespect his new boss.
