"Um, well, you see..." Shane started, acting all embarrassed about it and scratching the back of his head, "I kind of lost my job two days ago. Got laid off with a few other workers. So I've got nothing gong for me that way. As for a girlfrined, I don't have that either." He paused, not sure if he should add this last thing or not, but he would anyway. It might get him to be able to stay in the motel room with her so he could keep doing his actual job. "And I'm probably getting kicked out of my apartment today, too. Haven't paid rent in a while, but I can't exactly do that either. Whoops." He gave her an embarrassed smile and shoved both hands back in his coat pockets.
Hopefully, these excuses would be perfect in ensuring he was able to stay close to her at pretty much all times. He honestly hated this rule, wanting to give people space sometimes, but he had to follow protocal. Really, this job paid a lot of money because it helped society, and the government paid them big bucks for keeping criminals off the streets and out of jail, secretly. Hell, the Organization was FBI level stuff, secrecy wise. He rather liked his job anyway, helping people out of hard situations and giving them a better life, but this rule was still pretty stupid sometimes.

Phallon listened to him explain his situation, trying to hide an amused smirk. It wasn't a laughing matter that he was out of a job and possibly his place to stay, but it just kind of funny. Here he was, confident, skilled in many things, and able to hold his own in the city, yet he had trouble making rent and keeping a job. It kind of pulled him down to a relatable level with her. After all, she didn't have a job and wouldn't be able to stay in her motel room unless she found one.
"I guess we're in the same boat then," she mused. "What are you planning to do if you do get kicked out? Do you have to go get your stuff out of the apartment?"

"Yeah, but it's not much, honeslty. I came here with only a bag and backpack of items. Everything else came with the apartment I'm renting out," Shane replied, acting like it was embarrassing to talk about. If he played his cards right, he was sure her natural human hospitality would take over and let her invite him to stay with her. It's not like it cost extra anyway for him to be in there with her, so long as he wasn't registetred to be, which he knew he wasn't. "Don't really have anywhere else to go, though, so that's gonna suck." Finding it a good idea, he added a sigh at the end for good measure. However, he didn't want to seem like he was pushing her to ask him, so he also said, "But I'm sure I'll figure something out."

Phallon gave a small nod. To be honest, she was thinking about offering to let hi stay with her. The idea had its pros and cons. On the plus side, she would have her own body guard in case anyone ever tried to break into her room, and she would have someone to help pay for the room until she found some place better to live. That is, if he found another job so he could help pay. The downside was that her room wasn't that big. They would probably end up taking turns on the couch or even sharing the bed, and she wasn't entirely sure about either option at this point.
"Maybe something will come up for you," she said, playing it neutral for the moment. She would give it the rest of the day before she decided to help him out. In the mean time, she had found a first aid kit among the shelves, picked it up, and handed it to him. "Here, you hang on to this. You're probably going to need it more than I will."

Her reply made him frown inside, but he could try again later. If he had to, he would simply stlak her outside her room, sleep on the roof maybe. That was the downside of all of this; if he couldn't stay in her room with her, then he'd have to stlak her from outside. It was rather interesting really, how much he had to guard and protect her, a former criminal. Oh well, he liked the action of it at least.
When handed the first aid kit, he looked down at it in his hand. "Thanks, but I won't need it all that much. I don't usually get hurt at all. I'm relatively careful most of the time," he told her but held it anyway, notgiving it back or denying the it. "But then again, I don't have to fight people all that often either." That was a lie. One would be surprised just how many people came after the former criminals he protected, for whatever reason.

A slight panic ensued inside him upon hearing her statement. However, he kept that hidden. With a defeated sigh, he nodded. "Alright, I get in more fights than I'd like to, but I promise you it's always in self-defense, or defending someone else. I don't do it just for the fun of it," he admitted. While most of it was true this time, a small portion continued to technically be a lie. It was fun, exhilerating even. He loved the thrill of the fights, and the kill. Thankfully, when he did fight, it really was for good intentions.
The panic inside flared up still. Was she catching on to him? No, of course not. She had no way of knowing anything that was happening or anything about him other than what he spoke. But, she was clearly smart, so he would have to be a little more careful. His lies needed to be more realistic and believeble.
Phallon can start to rememebr things anytime, by the way. It can happen from events, dreams, or sometimes even just thinking and having random memories pop up.)

Yep! Only thing I ask is that it happens randomly and at rather spaced out times.)
Shane would be honest about this one, since he didn't have to lie this time around. However, his mind still raced to instinctively come up with lies for whatever questions or comments she had in the future. "Don't worry, not all of them end that way." In truth, most did, but there were times he was able to let the attacker go and, hopefully, rethink all their life choices. He rather enjoyed when he could do that - teach that perosn a lesson and possibly save them from a life of crime as well.

(You got it! It'll start as a random dream that bugs her the entire day, and just see what happens then.)
"Good," Phallon murmured, surprised at how relieved she felt by his answer. There wasn't really a reason why it would have mattered since she didn't plan on making herself his next victim. But the fact that he had answered truthfully helped eased her mind. Now she could focus on other things, like finding good shirts and jeans to buy.
It took her maybe ten minutes to pick out some decent, plain t-shirts that didn't really draw too much attention to the wearer, as well as some jeans that were her size. She didn't try them on, though, mainly because she felt as if she had wasted enough time in the store already. So, with most of her supplies and clothing in hand, she headed to the check out line with Shane.

That'll work ^^ Also, her criminal background can be anything but murder of innocents and dealing with drugs. That's just because later on it will be revealed that the Organizations doesn't work with people like that.)
Shane offered his opinion now and again on clothes near by. Mostly, he commented how some designs on certain shirts looked like they might be her style. Really, he was trying to be friendly again, keep her mind at ease, and let her trust him like before. The guardian felt as if he'd lost more of ehr trust than he would have liked to from that fight. As they now stood in line, he glanced around at the others around them, like he did with so many others. Finally, he offered, "I'll carry some of those bags for you if you'd like." So far, the only one he would have is the one which would contain his first aid kit. So, he could be genuinely polite and carry of of her things, like he'd offered before.

That works great either way. Also, sorry I've been gone. Things got really busy, and I had to apply for a new job..)
"I offered, so it's really not a burden," Shane assured her, watched the cashier take the 100 and give an agitated eye roll. Phallon was given back 20s and 10s mostly for change, and Shane grabbed the bags in his hands. "Alrighty, I think we are ready to roll here." He said with his usual upbeat and chipper tone. The man had noticed how to seemed to put Phallon at ease, and he much rather preferred to be happy and upbeat himself. So, he'd go back to using this act until it wasn't an act anymore, until he actually felt happy again. After that fight, there was still a darker shadow hanging around him, making him feel doubt among other things.

My parents are making me get it, so eh. But thanks)
Shane glanced at his rip-off Rolex in response. "It's about noon, so we could head to a food court and see what all there is to eat. I'm pretty hungry by now." As if to confirm his words, his stomach growled in a low rumble. This caused him to chuckle a bit. "Yeah, let's get something to eat. I'm buying anyway, so we can get whatever. Chinese maybe?" He enjoyed Chinese food quite a bit. It hadn't said in Phallon's file whether or not she did, so it would be guess work. But, who didn't like Chinese?

(Ah, well, maybe you'll end up liking it.)
Phallon gave an amused smile as his stomach seemed to agree with the idea of lunch. Breakfast hadn't been that big, so she didn't blame him for being hungry. "Chinese is fine with me," she replied. To be honest, she didn't know if she liked Chinese food or not, but there was only one way to find out, right?
She could tell Shane's cheery personality was coming back by the way he chuckled and spoke. It seemed to break away the remaining tension around them. The woman knew she shouldn't just dismiss that fact of what happened in the alley way, but, then again, there wasn't really anything she could do about it. So long as it doesn't happen again, she could try to forget about the two men, she decided. If it happened again, she was moving, whether she had enough money to do so or not. There was no way she was staying in a city where she couldn't walk down the street without fear of being attacked.

Probably not, honestly, but oh well. I get money so ) Shane liked that answer. Chinese was one of his personal favorites, so he hoped she would enjoy it, too. Although, most people did tend to enjoy it, so he doubted she'd dislike it. After moving all the bags he carried to one hand, he took Phallon's hand in his now free one while they walked around until they found the food court. The scents of all the different types of foods - Chinese, Italian, Subway, and everything deep fried - filled the air around them now. It smelled so wonderful, and it also caused his stomach to growl again, angrily begging for him to eat. "Let's just sit here," the man decided, picking the table which was at the edge of the court yet right by a large support pillar. To him, it provided some cover should the need arise while simultaneously keeping them away from the largest of the crowds. Setting the bags down, he took a seat. "You go ahead and order first. I'll sit here to make sure no one takes our stuff." He could watch her fairly easily from the table, as well.

Yep!)
"If you're going to get what I get anyway, then I might as well get both of our meals," the guardian said and he stood up once again. "I'll be right back." With that, the tall man made his way through the crowd and landed in the small line, in front of the Chinese stand. Around the other people, he was significantly taller than most, making it easy to pick him out in the crowd. Glancing back at Phallon, he waved to her with a smile. However, he'd be looking at her a lot while he was in line, just to make sure nothing was happening. Thankfully, malls were generally safe.
As he stood there, shelling out money from his wallet now, people were staring at him. Most likely, it was because of his sheer height, but maybe also the fact he was wearing a trenchcoat in the mall, which was a little unusual. Kids who looked at him, though, were definitely in awe at how tall he was. It was kind funny actually, how many women and kids were staring at him. Most men didn't even seem to care because they didn't want to be in the building at all. Yet, even with so many pairs of eyes on him, Shane didn't seem to care at all, or maybe not even notice.

Shane soon came back with the food, setting the trays down before sitting down himself. "Alright, I got us white rice, an eggroll, general tso chicken, steamed broccoli, and a fortune cookie each. I hope you're not allergic to anything," he said as he ripped open the little plastic packet which kept his plastic silverwear from harm and germs of other hands. The guardian knew full well his subject wouldn't be allergic to anything on her tray. Her allergies had been clearly listed in the prfolie he'd memorized.
The man didn't eat yet, though. He was waiting to see how Phallon reacted to the taste of her food. It was like taking someone somewhere completely new to them and watching them try your favorite food for the first time. He had to watch.

It's fine ^^)
"See? Everybody likes Chinese. I swear it's impossible not to," Shane responded with a genuine smile. There was something about Phallon that he really liked, that was different from the other subjects he'd been with. She was just someone he wanted to be friends with, and it was enjoyable to spend time with her like this. It would suck when he had to leave her once she was back on ehr feet; he was sure she'd be able to get a job and place of her own to become an upstanding citizen of society. Then he'd have to leave. After his job was complete, he would not be allowed further contact. He dreaded that day, but for now, he'd be happy.

"Probably," Shane agreed and shrugged. He wasn't really the debate type. He was more tha type of man to make everyone happy, kind of the peacemaker. Well, it was that way with arguements anyway. If you actually threatened him, he would take you out in an instant. Eating his food, he glanced around like always, examining everyone around them. "But I'm pretty sure most people like Chinese food. Like, come on. It's freaking awesome."

No problem! I get short replies happen sometimes, it's fine :3)
"Well, I've tried many different cultures and like msot things," Shane said, his eyes drifting off to look into the distance of the ceiling as he thought. "I've even tried things like octopus, greenland shark, scorpions, and random fruits that are pretty exotic. None of them wre bad. But, if I had to pick something I don't like, it'd have to be nutella, probably." From most people, they'd think him to be crazy, but Phallon probably wouldn't even know what it tastes like anyway. "I just think it's gross."

Trust me, I've worked with much less many times before ) Shane couldn't help but give a slight chuckle at the woman's surprised reaction. It seemed even she was true to the crowd in this way. Had it been anything else, the guardian may have picked up that something was wrong, like perhaps not all of her memories erased, but nutella was a common thing. It was food. So, the man did not think twice about her apparent memory gain, not this time. At her question, slight panic arose within him. It was a good and reasonable question for all that he told her. Quickly, like it was trained to do, his brain came up with a justifiable lie. "I traveled a lot with my parents when I was a kid, before things got bad," he answered. That seemed reasonable enough in his eyes.

(Same with me, so I know how irritating it can be sometimes.)
"Did they travel for work?" Phallon asked. "Or did they just love to travel? Either way, they must have had good paying jobs if you visited so many places." A part of her wanted to ask what exactly had went wrong with his family. She had seen the scars on his wrists, had believed he had run away from home because of his parents, but she had thought that his family had always been dysfunctional from what little he had told her. Now, with his last statement, he proved her assumptions wrong. Her curiosity was stirred, yet she didn't know if asking about his home issues would be crossing a line. If anything, he may tell her on his own if she just kept asking innocent questions. If he didn't explain more about his family, then she would leave the topic for another day. After all, if she was going to offer him a place to stay, an offer still in debate, then she would have to know more about him and his past, right? Too bad she couldn't do the same to make him feel a little more comfortable about it.
