For a few moments, Julius simply stared blankly at the other - before realising he'd been asked a question. He frowned again and considered saying no, but sighed and decided that the truth was better. This kid seemed...a little weird, but whatever, it was fine.
"Ja," he said, sliding his own phone into his pocket so that he'd pay more attention to the other boy and not feel tempted to respond to texts instead. "Just lost the school map, but yes, it's my first day. Feels like a school this tiny would realise when someone wasn't new, though."
To distance himself a little so he wasn't pressing so close to the strange kid (personal space - he needed it), he stepped back and barely avoided bumping into someone else. Why were the other teenagers so big and boisterous and stuff? Then again, he'd dealt with worse. Much worse. Many times over. It was fine, nothing he couldn't handle. If he was going to fit in with a better crowd, he had to pretend he wasn't bothered by any of this stuff. Keep calm, keep cool, don't ramble - all of these rules, he hoped, would help him out. Probably.

The dark mucky look of the swampy area kept many visitors away from the small little cabin. A cabin that looked more like a small shed more than a place for someone to live. The wood was rotting giving it the look of a abandoned structure so most likely no one would dare brave the insides. That is if they dare braved the swamp alligators where a known threat in this small land. This place was void of any human interactions for years. The swamp was not disrupted by any humans as the beasts lazily just laid about the swamp not fearing humans. The cabin continued to rot as if no one dared touch it up. However was this little cabin truly abandon was big question amongst the citizens of the kingdom. Ever since witches have been known to exist rumors grew all the time about more witches. However no one so far as been brave enough to traverse the small cabin in the swamps.
For if they did they'd meet young Vera. A petite young woman who had gone into hiding a long time ago in fear of being burned alive at the stake. Inside the cabin people would find a small cellar door that if they could get unlocked would bring them to the young witches true home. The basement was lit up with candles showing a small living area. The kind of house with no walls rather everything was in the same room. To the far right was a bed with a sleeping figure atop. To the left laid the kitchen area, next to that was a bunch of weird devices used for potions. The rest of the house was basically a library with bookshelves taking up the entire area.
The only sound inside this small area was a light snore from the young lady sleeping in her bed. However that was soon interrupted by a mole that made it's way to the bed. The creature found it's way up to the young girl, and nudged her arm. It took nothing past that for the girl's light blue eyes to open. She had trained herself to awake easily in case someone was here. Smiling seeing it was just her small friend Chester she patted the mole. "Good morning Chester." She smiled before pushing herself out of the bed. She put on a pair of black of robes the only outfit she chose to wore. Her master had given her a witches out a long time ago, but that was before her Master was set ablaze.
Through this whole witch hunt Vera learnt to stay in hiding. She rarely left her home and when she did she always made sure to not be gone long. The last time she went to town she claimed to be a scholar just passing through. The robes helped make that seem true enough. She turned to her look at her witch dress she hung up. She held firm to the idea one day the king would allow witches to live alongside normal humans. Turning the young girl went to her pantry to find some food, alas today was going to be a go into town day. Nothing was left which made sense, it had been a while. Sighing she headed up the ladder to go into town.
Upon her journey's end she had lifted her white hood up to hide her face. The town seemed busy as usual which caused her to smile slightly. Sure these people might want to burn her alive, but she still couldn't give up on humanity. Walking into the town she went to a food stall ordering her usual order. Her story was she was a scholar though from her first visit here she had chosen to stick around this town. No problems occurred so far so the young witch grew a bit confident deciding to head to a local inn to get a cooked meal for today. She did this, but very rarely.
