"Some deities grow lax," Nero replied with, his voice holding a small strain of slight irritation. "Nerre let over three thousand children die in the last decade alone, while I had my attention on saving the crops. He will be responsible for collecting the young souls and bringing them to me personally, and I will hand-pick a family for each child. They deserve a second chance; innocents always do." The moment his sentence ended, the mirror glimmered once more. A small, slender boy appeared. He was younger, no older than fourteen. However, his eyes held wisdom, his posture was mature and confident. He said nothing, simply included his head. Nero grabbed the glass orb once more, handing it through the mirror to young god. "Save them, quickly." He turned back to Ari, his violet eyes sharp with alertness. "I have several places to visit, to confirm stability. You can accompany me if you wish - I am sure the deities will be grateful for a student to teach magic to." He leaned back over the diamond sheet, scanning over the duties he needed to adress that day. "For instance - the wind goddess. She grows weak, and requests an heir to take over. We will take a young woman named Jinnu to test her abilities with the wind goddess."

Ari considered this with a slight incline of his head. Deities could grow lax? He supposed that if they held no love for mankind, then it could happen. It was the humans who suffered, after all. He watched the boy for a moment and then, when Nero looked at him, he looked back. His own eyes were starting to become sharper now, any softness from sleep already leaving his face.
"I'll accompany you," he said, "I will admit that my curiosity is more than it once was."
He had become so familiar with everything being the same in his life that this change was a welcome one - though he wanted to learn more, and so accompanying Nero seemed like the best way to do that.

A flicker of something in Nero's eyes gave away what his blank expression tried to conceal - pride for his companion. "Come," He said, facing the mirror. Taking a step, it seemed he would collide witht he smooth surface. Instead, the mirror rippled, letting the god pass through easily. "It is safe. Come," Nero said again, stepping fully into the mirror. A split second of confusion, then he stepped from the other side.
He stood by lovely cottage, built of spiraling woods and glass. He waltzed to the front door with an easy grace, rapping thrice upon the wood. "Jinnu! We are here to escort you to the wind goddess' lair. Will you come?" Nero asked, his tone even. A moment later, a petite woman dressed in a simple cotton dress answer the door with a broad smile. "Nero! What a pleasant surprise. Of course, of course..." She flounced inside, her sentence still hanging in mid-air. Nero waited patiently for a few moments, keeping just outside the doorframe. Jinnu came back out, her silvery-green eyes bright. "Jinnu, meet Ari - my companion. He wishes to learn of magic," His lips quirked - more pride? "Would you be willing to teach him some simple tricks for the next while?"

The mirror definitely caused Ari to hesitate, gaze flicking back to the door to the room before he sighed and followed, deciding that if he was going to be here, it was best to not doubt too much. He looked around once they were through, lips parting slightly at the cottage. It was...beautiful - there was nothing else to be said.
"Hallo," he greeted, looking to Nero momentarily before he refocused on Jinnu. There was something about her that reminded him of the girls in his town, but he couldn't quite place what it was. Then again, he'd thought that about many girls. He remembered a few men teasing him for his inability to distinguish the differences between people unless they caught his interest. Eh. It was just how he was. "Nice to meet you," he added, remembering the gods and goddesses from the previous day. Politeness seemed to go down well.

"Pleasure," Jinnu chirped, inclining her head with respect. Nero gave Ari and aprasing look before placing his hand on the back of the womans neck fondly. "Come, the both of you. Shii awaits." With a gentle hand, Nero guided both mortal and goddesses onto a path, twisting back out of the village where most lived. A bit later, Nero finally stopped, Before them was something many thought of a piece of art. Glass spirals furrowed into the air, curved like claws. Then, came a spiral of colors.
Wearing multiple pieces of different colors, Shii molded herself around each of the glass pieces, landing with acrobatic grace on the ground. She did not seem elderly or weak - late twenties, at most. However, her black eyes were wise and ancient, betraying her true age. "Nero, Jinnu, Ari - welcome. Come, Jinnu," the woman beckoned the smaller woman forwards, and Jinnu rushed to her new teachers side. "Come in one month. I will approve or deny." Shii said calmly, a hand on Jinnu's shoulder. A impossibly strong gust of wind drug both of them high into the glass spirals. Nero crooked one brow - the only sign he was slightly taken back. "Typical Shii," He mused.

Finding himself surprisingly pleased at Nero's approval, Ari retaliated with a single raised eyebrow, but followed them both nonetheless. He took in the view without much of a thought for the two with him, instead focusing on learning what was here.
Seeing the colours caused him to blink rapidly, brain and eyes refusing to cooperate for a couple of moments. He tilted his head at Shii and almost commented on lack of age, but barely managed to bite back his tongue. A muscle jumped in his jaw as he did so. At Nero's words, he turned his head to look at him.
"Is overchieving a god-thing or just a personal character trait?" He asked.

Nero turned to face Ari, then tilted his head slightly with a one-shoulders shrug. "It depends who you ask. Shii is very energetic, very focused - few can distract her from her duties. I find it admirable at time, irritating at others. I have to complete my round, and then I can help you learn a few simple spells and charms." The gods eyes was drawn by a billowy laugh not far from where they were, and Nero's eyes softened as re recognized his daughter.
Sure enough, she came speeding up at break-neck speed. Jumping into her fathers arms, Tem started speaking rapidly in the gods language. Nero tried to keep up, he really did, but eventually... "Tem, I love you, but I cannot understand a word you are saying. Slow down for the old man," His lips twitched in a smile as his daughter giggled, setting her on her small feet onto the ground. Tem then went on in the common tongue, explaining that she had found another ability along with her speed. With a huge smile, she held up her hands - a small storm cloud billowed over her palms, tiny lightning and thunder quiet and harmless. "Ari - Ari! Look! I have rainstorms! I can make rain!"

Ari nodded lightly and flicked his gaze to Tem, raising his eyebrows at her rapid speech. He didn't understand a word of it, but he could tell the difference between it and his own tongue - it was not a human language, that was for sure. A little irritating, but he'd deal with it. He blinked, then, at the storm cloud and crouched down to look at it more.
"That is amazing," he said, in a tone that suggested he was sincere without meaning to be, "rain is a vital part of life. Your ability is a wonderful thing, Tem."
He held a softer gaze as he spoke to the child, still fascinated by the storm cloud. It was so strange to see something that had been prayed for in his town just...appear, here, in a smaller scale. Rain had not been common in his town, causing crops to fail if they failed the timing. He had always enjoyed it.

Tem suddenly looked a little sad, looking up at the human with guilty eyes. "Your town almost died a lot because I didn't know about rain yet," She said. Nero shut his eyes, suddenly dropping his head in his hands and rubbing his face. "Tem, I have told you many times before, and I say once again now. Gods and Goddesses have one ability, unless another lets them have theirs. You were blessed with the ability of speed - which in turn has gifted the many wonderful species of the earth below. I was not aware that the rain god grew lax. This is not on your shoulders," Even as he spoke, the weight fell on his. He should have noticed the towns go without rain.
Nero then flashed his eyes to Ari, guilt hidden behind a wall in his eyes, a wall not usually there. "Tem, come here," He suddenly pulled his daughter into his arms, one arm supporting all her weight as she clung to his neck. He opened his hand, and out grew a glass orb - it grew and grew, things carving into the surface. Finally, a basketball-sized orb floated above his palm. A few lights flickered on it. "Look, Tem - this is the entire world underneath us. These lights represent areas that need rain. Look - here is Athens, Greece. Their olive crops are failing. Or here - Okinawa, Japan. Go on, Tem - experience your new responsibility. But be careful - Japan doesnt need another flood, hmm?" He pulled a face, making Tem soften and giggle. "Okay Ne-ne. Thank you Ari for the nice words! Buh-bye!" The white haired little girl gave Ari a quick hug, having been placed on the ground earlier. After grabbing the glass globe from her father, she gave a quick goodbye in their native langauge and ran across the field in a blink of an eye, the globe safe in her hands. Her father watched for a moment, then gave a short huff. "She was fun as a babe," The words held a light, playful sarcasm.

Ari hummed lightly as he watched Tem go, before standing up straight and turning his gaze on Nero. For a good few moments, he focused on the other man - before he looked away and down at the ground, eyebrows pulling down.
"It's not the fault of the rain god that our crops failed. The world is so large and so many places need water; surely, there's only so much that they can do? We had a rainy season, and that's what we learned to survive from. We humans are not so bad at adapting," he gave a half-smile, "as long as we're aware of what's happening, we just change things."
It was his attempt at...comfort, which was something entirely strange to him. He didn't really know how to go about it, but stating facts seemed like a good idea.

"The gods have the scrying ability. We see all at once - so it is, indeed, on us; your towns suffering." Nero said, turning his violet gaze to Ari. "But that is quite enough of that, no? It's almost noon - you ought to be hungry. You'll feel a bit more hunger these first few days of you being here - the presence of divine beings can tax ones metabolism." Nero gave Ari a sly expressoin for a split second - You know i'm right.
He touched Ari's shoulder - a quick brush, was all it seemed, but it seemed rather... dominant. Ari was, after all, the pet to Nero now. These little touches and pets - only to be expected. Nero respected the wish of permision to touch from Ari as one would from a cat, or dog. If one's pet wishes no to be touched, then one does not touch the pet. However, Nero was still aware of the mind set of humans - lesser than the gods, but powerful nonetheless. The gods he;led agility and wisdom - mortals were all brute force.
"Come along, please - the kitchens are north of here just a bit."

A displeased sound passed Ari's lips at the fact that Nero was right - considering his stomach growled on cue. His brows pulled down as did the corners of his lips, and he turned his head, no longer choosing to try to comfort. That was the last time he did that.
He did not pull away from the touch this time, however. It was a little annoying that he hadn't been asked, but his mood was lighter than he was pretending it was, and so he simply stepped a little closer to Nero, turning his head as if he wasn't doing that exact thing.
"Alright," he said quietly.

Once the pair had reached the massive building the kitchens were in, Nero turned to face Ari once more, blocking the door. "Before we enter, I want to warn you about the head chef. She is rather... energetic. Goddess of the future, she sees many things and hears many languages, so her voice will be different than ours. She also is... well, you will see." And with that, Nero opened the door and stepped inside, holding it open for Ari as well.
Once the human was inside, Nero closed the door and turned to face the kitchens. A bit warmer due to fires and heated cooking utensils, it was clear this building was very cheerful. The workers all joked together and laughed. "Gwen-"
"I'm right here, Nero, take a chill pill man. Ari, c'mere and try this, i dunno if you'll like it, but meh," The woman looked over at the pair, her face slightly irked. Two quarter inch thick black lines were tattooed across her face, over her nose - ear tip to ear tip. Her ears were pierced with several silver hoops, her lips died a shocking neon purple. Her hair was short and choppy, a bright crimson red. "Dude, I'm already old enough. Get your human butt over here, thanks," Her neon lips cracked into a smile, however - she was merely playing. Nero sighed as she marked over, grabbing Ari's arm with a firm hand. "Leggo. Nero - stay put. This food is not for you, nuh-uh." She narrowed her eyes threateningly, pointing a wooden spoon at the god of creation.
"I have not a clue to what you said, M'lady," Nero said slowly, raising his hands defensively, "But i think that i shall stay put, here. Ari - do-" He was abruptly cut off by the chef, by how she suddenly launched the spoon at him. He zapped it from the air with a jerk of his hand, falling silent. This was the only goddess that intimidated him. "Right-io, friend. Here," Gwen handed the human a small plate - several different samples were one it. Try 'em. Whoever you like best, feel free to 'borrow' some from whatever plates or somethin'."

The future seemed like a rather unnerving thing to be able to see into, and it did make him wonder if the future was a constantly changing thing, or if it was always inevitable. That said, an old woman claiming to be a psychic had told him that he'd be dead before he was twenty, and he was standing here now. Forgive him for being a little sceptical. His eyebrows pulled down slightly but he nodded and took note of Nero's words before following.
Ari blinked at the woman. She seemed...interesting, for lack of better words, and he didn't return the smile, instead choosing to stare at her through cautious eyes. He looked down at the firm hand on his arm and looked to Nero with raised eyebrows, before looking to Gwen and trying to figure out what she was saying. It was somewhat amusing to see her throw the spoon at Nero, and his lips did quirk up slightly. Maybe he did like this goddess after all - if he could decipher what she was saying.
"Oh," he blinked owlishly, "thank you."
It was probably best not to disobey her, but he did look to Nero for help again, looking absolutely clueless (and more than a little intimidated).

Nero put his hands up pats Ari looked over, giving a helpless shrug. "This is Gwen domain, I can't help muc-" He was cut off by a glass cup nearly cracking into his face, barely stopped with his hand flicking at his side. It stopped immediately, frozen in air. Gwen was glaring at Nero with visvious eyes. "Silence, Mr. Creation. I don't care if you created the entire damn world, This is MY place, not yours you white-haired idiot." Her intense glare had Nero frozen in place, head included slightly. He knew he could subdue the goddess, but he didn't want to risk her workers ganging up on him.
"Anyways, sweetie," Gwen changed in the blink of an eye, turning back to Ari with an almost motherly smile, her expressoin playful once more. "You're welcome here any time, day or night - As a seer, I can't sleep, so I spend my time in here. This thing, right here - it's called a 'pizza'. How odd, such weird foods from the future. However, it is strangely addicting. Same with whatever this is - some kind of frozen cream." She pulled a knife from thin air, chopping some herbs almost blindingly fast. "Oh, one more thing, hunny - Nero is generally not allowed in here, so come in whenever you need an escape."
"Gwen-"
"Shut up, you insufferable god."

"I like you," Ari decided, in a rather firm tone. He would not be swayed on this. "I'd like it if you could teach me how to get Nero to be speechless."
He shot a mischievous smile over his shoulder at Gwen before he looked back to Gwen and poked at the strange foods, blinking a few times with a confused expression. Frozen cream - he'd heard of someone bringing that in from some place in the East, though he wasn't quite sure. It melted quickly and was supposed to be very sweet, but in the higher temperatures of where he lived, it didn't last long. His gaze flicked to Gwen when she chopped herbs and he tilted his head. Impressive knife skills. The army chef would've been amazed.
"Is it tiring, seeing into the future?" he asked, deciding to follow with his curiosity. "If you can't sleep, it seems an awful lot like you can't truly rest."
Honestly, he'd always been told that rest was of the utmost importance. If one wasn't rested, then they couldn't perform their duties, which was frowned upon. Though...did that mean that Ari needed less sleep now that he didn't really have duties, as such? So far, he'd had offers to talk to others, relax, maybe learn some magic - it was all very nice, but it was strange to not have to draw up maps and talk strategy and go through drills. He glanced at Nero again and raised his eyebrows, but didn't move from where he stood near Gwen.

"Gwen-"
"Nero!" Gwen mocked openly, cutting the creation god a look that could kill a man. Nero leveled his gaze back evenly, one brow cocked. "Oh look at me, god of aaaaaaall creation! Soooooo powerful!" She mimed in a hilariously bad attempt at Neros baritone voice. Nero shot a cold look to the side, a bit irritated. He just shrugged in defeat, remaining silent.
"Well, it doesnt take a special hand to silence the twat," Gwen threw a playful wink at Ari, her eyes lined thickly with kohl. "A lot of people like me - everyone else wants me dead. Anyways, rest - no, I never rest. However, i never get tired. It's actually quite odd - before I was the Scrying Goddess, I felt tired a lot. Never feeling lack of energy is wonderful and bizarre. Also, I have time to see into the future and watch cooks from all over the globe. Unique herbs and strange dishes - I have always loved being in the kitchen and i swear to all things holy, Nero." She shot another deathly sharp glare to the god, who was watching a few knifes chop without a hand to guide them. "If you touch anything I will fold your skin into meatloaf!"
Nero, needless to say, immediately backed off.

He really couldn't help it - at Gwen's mocking of Nero, he giggled. Ari was quick to raise a hand to cover his mouth and turn his head, but he couldn't hide the smile on his face nor how his face lightened considerably for the first time since he'd been here (not counting the meetings with Tem), and he seemed to relax.
"I'll learn," he decided with a wave of his hand, the corners of his eyes crinkling up as he smiled. "I see. Sounds pretty interesting, actually," he considered it with a tilt of his head, looking over to Nero when he was yelled at and wincing a little. "Why do you hate Nero so much?"
He didn't add 'he's actually pretty attractive for a mighty being I've just been bestowed upon', but it was implied. Ari glanced at the knives that Nero had been looking at and squinted at them, then look to Nero himself and raised his eyebrows. This place was impressive. He quite liked it - there was a homely atmosphere to it, even with the shouting goddess and the sentient (he thought) knives. It smelt good, too. That was a huge good point.

"Nero is my brother, by birth. Actually, I'm his twin - older twin." She smirked smugly at Nero, who sighed. "You are five minutes older than I, Gwen."
"Still older, you absolute twat," She snarled playfully, throwing another wooden spoon that successful struck Nero in the side, making the god jump in surprise and give a slightly irritated look at his twin. "But, I digress - Nero isnt hated here," She lowered her voice, as if she told a secret to Ari. She kept her low voice, scraping the herbs into a tall pot and then finely dicing some beef, her knife practically a blur. "He's actually one of the most appreciated. He treats us all as equals, even the messengers. He really strives to care for the humans below, and he is a fair, honest ruler. Most creators keep their helping deities chained to walls in prisons and dungeons - and as you know, this is not the case here. When we were humans, Nero was always helping people - taking in orphans, bringing in sick animals. It all changed when our deity asked for him because of his writing. But here we are - his village from human years, helping him side by side." She had tipped the meat into the pot, and now she worked on straining chicken stock from another - the bones of chicken were kept from the stock. "Nero and I came from a family who taught us only to do things that will make the world better, and my brother does his best. He may act like... well, you know. But in reality, he's the best of us. Nero!" She suddenly snapped, her soft expression turning spiteful again as she aimed a knife at Neros throat. He backed away from fussing with a pair of chop sticks, rolling his violet eyes.

That made sense, he supposed. He listened to Gwen thoughtfully, tilting his head back and thinking about her words. All as equals - that sounded rather idealistic, but he could understand it, to a degree. A world where people did not have to worry about discrimination sounded like a wonderful one, and if this was it...well, who would blame him if he wasn't too keen on the idea of leaving at any point in time? His thumb absently passed over his lower lip, a discreet comfort gesture that he had done for years.
"I see," he said, rather honestly, "thank you."
When Nero was told off again, he turned to look and rolled his own eyes upwards, despite the faint quirk upwards of his lips.
"If you know you're going to be told off, why do you do things anyway?" he asked the god, a single eyebrow raised as he studied him with his mismatched gaze. It was a genuine question - not one to mock, but...possibly, genuine curiosity. If he had done something when he knew he wasn't supposed to, he would be punished, and it taught him not to go against orders.

"I am curious, and Gwen refuses to answer any of my questions." Nero's responce was absentminded, since he was watching the knives whirl around each other with startling visciousness. Gwen snorted, rolling her eyes, which shifted to a silvery white color. "You have absolute power, you twat - I gotta have something as leverage," She hissed, but her glare was softer than before. Nero sighed, raising him hands. "Come now, Gwen -"
"Come now, Gwen, you know I only want to know how to focus on so many knives at once," Gwen interrupted, cocking a brow at Nero. "Don't read my future speach," Gwen said for Nero smugly, who had taken a breath to speak. He glared at his twin, who in turn laughed fully. "That's the best thing," She smirked at Ari, "About being the Scrying Goddess. But for now, since Nero was about to ask anyways-" Another smirk in her brothers direction "-would you like to learn a few simple magical tricks? You can learn more, if you'd like - but baby steps. Nero! Out!"
The white haired god stopped what he was doing - watching a few dishes wash themselves - before glancing over, a brow raised questioningly. He was slightly hesitant about leaving Ari, clearly.

Vague amusement crossed Ari's face as he watched the twins interact, eyebrows raising as Gwen predicted what Nero was going to say. He blinked owlishly at the offer and tilted his head towards Nero and searching his face, before turning back to Gwen and smiling faintly.
"Yes, please. That would be nice," he nodded to her, before looking back to Nero and tilting his head. "I think I'll be fine here," he told him, "I can meet you somewhere afterwards if it eases you."
This 'being nice' thing wasn't as hard as he thought it would be - though he would admit that his temper was frayed from even the previous day's interactions. Today was nicer - the scrying goddess was fascinating and Nero didn't really take much energy to talk to, and so it was a nice combination. In all honesty, he could really get used to this. It was something that he already enjoyed, despite having only been here for such a short time.

"No need," Nero said, dipping his head in recognition to Ari's kind offer. "Just please be back before it's truly dark out. It gets a bit frigid here at night." Frigid as in multiple degrees below zero, actually. And with that, the white haired god went past Ari and Gwen, clasping his twins shoulder affectionatly, silently. Gwens frigid glare at him melted into a surpringly sweet smile, and she covered his hand with her own befor relaeasing him settle. With a small, barely-there touch to the wrist for Ari, Nero whisked form the kitchens.
Immediately, all motions stopped - Gwen dropped her magic. Knives dove into the sink, the clean dishes put themselves away, and then all was still. "Right-o, Ari, this way please. Keep all hands and feet in the center of this isle to avoice your hand or foot being shopped off," She chirped cheerfully, two glowing lines appearing towards the door. She pushed Ari with her hands on his back, her slight form barely budging him until he moved himself. She then bounded in front of him, vanishing from the kitchen. She popped her head in, pulling a droll face. "Hurryyyyyy!" She stretched out before vanishing again. Apparently, Gwen was just as excited about teaching as Ari was about learning.

Despite himself, Ari offered something of a comforting smile to Nero as he left, before turning his focus back to Gwen. He watched her with vague amusement and followed along quickly, doing as he was told and frowning a little. He hesitated momentarily and glanced over his shoulder to where Nero had left, before huffing with amusement and simply following the goddess. It seemed easier to obey than to be stubborn.
"Why would not being in the center of the isle chop my hand or foot off?" he hummed lightly, though he continued to obey. "Seems rather dangerous."
He felt like magic was probably more dangerous than even his parents could've imagined, but he hoped that they'd be outdone. Maybe it was evil. Nah. He doubted it. If it was evil, the gods and goddesses wouldn't be this polite nor angry at him for not responding from time to time.

"It wouldnt, I just think your expressions are hilarious," Gwen said smugly, turning in a slow circle with her arm extended. Soon, a wide circle was around both Ari and Gwen, carved shallowly into the soft soil on the ground. "This," Gwen said, motioning to the circle, "Is our safe zone. If you happen to launch fire or lightning, it wont pass." She grinned, clasping ehr hands together and rubbing vigorously. "Now, lets start simple."
She pointed at a stone about the size of her head - it drifted up, and into the center of the circle, hovering around Ari's waist hight. "Focus on the center of the rock. Now, your magic isn't in you - it's around you. Inthe air, in the ground. No one, even the gods, have their own magic. The elements - earth, air, water, fire, spirit - hold the magic. Some people are better with certain types - and others, like Nero, can bend any. But for now, we'll focus on the easiest - air and earth. Imagine the magic being sucked into your hands and feet - air for your hands, earth for your feet." Gwen foxed her stance next to Ari, motioning him to copy her. Sure enough, the blades of grass at her feet were shivering eve two slightly - the air at her hand finely blurring. "It isn't hard yet - it's channeling the energy that'll be a bit tricky."

"I have no expressions," Ari stated in a matter-of-fact tone of voice, "I had all the emotions removed from me when I was younger. Now I'm an emotionless statue and your reasoning is invalid."
He then listened carefully, holding onto her every word. For a moment, he considered her stance carefully, eyebrows raised as he moved to copy her. He imagined as she told him to - air for his hands, earth for his feet. Though nothing (at all) happened with his hands, the grass rustled beneath his feet. Gentle and barely there, but it was something. He raised his eyebrows and looked down, then looked at Gwen again.
"Okay," he said, his tone much softer than it had been all day.
