"Well," Aera replied, "what would you name yours?" She reached over almost subconsciously and smoothed over Loretta's work. "Something pretty and delicate? Rough and ready? Fancy-sounding? What are your aspirations, anyway?" She leaned over and raised an eyebrow teasingly. "Anyone really catch your eye?"
---
"Oh--yes," Kryslyn said, stopping herself. "Apologies. It does seem rather like something I'd like. Anyway, yes, excited--this place is amazing." She gave a quick twirl, laughing, before turning around to look the prince in the eye. "Did you come in here a lot? Do you still?" She paused, itching to move onward, but she really was curious about Prince Augustus's thoughts.

Patience smiled. "A movie sounds great." She said, glancing around. "What's your favorite kind of movie?" The Selected girl was unsure if she should take his arm or not once they started walking towards the theatre... It is a date, but he's also dating 11 other girls... She decided to wait until he made some sort of movement to tell her what to do.

"Quite hungry." Lily admitted with a small smile. "Although I first must apologize for omitting your title. It's the second time I've done it since being here and I regret not apologizing the first time." She blushed lightly. "Knowing that I'm here, with the possibility of marrying you one day, has me a bit nervous." She admitted, the amount of nerves it gave her was largely understated, especially considering the way she was already falling for the prince. Even with all of his quirks and menial tendencies. (I'm so sorry, Tiger! I totally missed this!) "I think it has made everybody nervous," Augustus allowed graciously. "Thank you for the apology. Brian, I think we're ready for that supper now," he said to the serving boy. He glanced at the blonde girl again. "Why don't we talk for awhile? We're you still in school when you entered the drawing?"

Lily smiled, "I'd actually just finished school. I was about to start working at the farm that I learned to ride at. I was going to teach riding lessons to the kids that came there." She sighed wistfully. "My father always wanted to start his own riding lessons but never had the chance to." She glanced away as she realized she'd just hinted that something had happened to her dad.

Frostie:
"Something pretty and simple, I think," Loretta answered, glad Aera at least could smooth the wrinkles she couldn't seem to get rid of. "Like Jayne, or Annabelle." She flushed slightly high on her cheekbones. "No. I haven't got the time to have eyes for anything but work; heaven knows there's enough of it." She glared at the pile of stubborn shirts to make her point, then looked back to Aera. "What about you? Any flings I should know about?"
~~~~~~~
Augustus watched her twirl, and again the image of an excited little girl on Christmas morning came to mind. Nevertheless, it was endearing. At least he had managed to make one first date memorable, and really with no real effort on his part except for a good choice of setting.
He smiled at her. "I spend a lot of time looking for books, but I admit I do not sit here to read or study. I prefer open spaces when I can find them. Where do you prefer to read?" he asked. He started ambling down a row of books, knowing she wanted to see more of the place.
Oh, he had forgotten that detail! How could he have forgotten? Well, it was too late now. He would have to remember when he escorted her back though. "I enjoy adventure films," he told her. "Movies such as Inception, Robin Hood, something that is exciting without being mindless." He looked over at the Woman in Red again. "What about you? Do you enjoy romances, chick flicks?" he asked, daring to tease her a little. I wonder if she has a temper as red as her hair?
"I wish," Aera scoffed. "No, there's not anyone special I can talk about." She sighed and finished her pile of shorts, nodding for Loretta to work on the skirts. "Sometimes I wonder about romance, anyway. Do you really think the prince will find his one true love in a pick of thirty-odd women? Does love work that way?" She sighed. "Am I too young to know what love is, or am I the perfect age? They all say love is blind, and who is more blind than a fool? And all young people are fools . . ." she trailed off and gave a little smile. "Sorry. I don't mean to be philosophical."
---
Kryslyn followed, squinting at the titles of the books as she walked.
"Cozy places. Usually as surrounded by books as I can be. I guess the vibe is good, or just being all around the words can be contagious . . . it's like being one with nature, or whatever they call it." She pulled one out slightly, hoping for a better look inside. She cracked open the cover to a random page and scanned a paragraph. The writer used too many commas for her liking. She kept reading and it only confirmed her opinion--she filed the book back and hurried to catch up with the prince. "Are there any particular places you prefer outside? A reading tree, perhaps? My friend--" she stopped herself. Now was not the time to go off on about her friends, and anyway, she was curious.
ah I think you meant to tag Hot Chocolate up there ^^ When they fell into a quiet walk, Cordelia enjoyed several moments of silence. Though it was a bit of an uncomfortable silence, it was much better than having to sputter out words in an embarrassing attempt to sound confident and worldly. At his question, she felt her small feeling of comfort crumble. Aside from princess lessons that morning, she’d spent the entirety of the day in her room, reading, trying to distract herself from feeling nervous. Nothing worth mentioning, really. “I’m afraid not,” she admitted, “You see, I’m terribly boring--I spent the day attempting to catch up on my studies.” She aimed a self-deprecating smile at the floor and dropped her gaze. Although she had been in the palace for a bit of time now, she hadn’t gone out and explored much--it didn’t seem right snooping around considering she was a guest. “Yourself?”
"I can admire that," Augustus said, smiling. "It is quite a bit of work to remember all the facts, isn't it?" He raised his eyebrows slightly in question, trying to imagine being thrown into this world instead of being brought up in it. Everything he knew, she would have to learn, and quickly. "It must be a lot of pressure," he murmured, thinking aloud. He shook his head and brought himself back to the present conversation and out of his thoughts. "I haven't done anything incredibly noteworthy either. Today's projects seemed mostly to consist of revising outdated laws."
(Ah, I forget what they were going to do. Do you happen to remember? Or was I stalling until I figured it out? Lol.)
haha no idea sorry! I believe they were staying on the floor but other than that I got nothing lol “There’s so much to know!” Cordelia agreed a bit too excitedly. Embarrassed by her outburst, she brought a hand to her mouth and turned her head away briefly. “It’s all very interesting though, just a bit overwhelming…” she attempted to explain, trailing off into a mutter and dropping her hand to her side. “Revising old laws? That sounds…” she tried to find something interesting to say but only came up with, “terribly boring…” She paused before asking timidly, “What do you like to do in your free time?”
"Ha!" Patience looked over to Augustus with her gleaming hazel eyes. "Do you really take me as a chick flick kind of girl?" Unsure what to do with her hands, Patience kept them by her side as they walked. "No thank you! I actually really enjoy adventure films as well... and anything with dogs in it." She smirked, shifting her gaze to the hallway in front of her. "Because, you know, dogs are just the best."
Lily felt a flood of relief when she realized he had not noticed her slip up and questioned her about her father. "Yeah, they really are important to me. The Queen let me slip away during the picnic to visit the stables and meet the horses. The horses here are absolutely gorgeous. You are very lucky." She blushed, realizing that she was rambling and of something that probably wasn't an extremely important topic point to the Prince. "I'm sorry Prince Augustus. I get a little bit too excited when talking about something that I am passionate about."
Frostie: (*cough* Twelve girls, not thirty-some. *cough* ...I think I need to work on my subtlety skills. Lol.)
Loretta laughed at her. "I didn't know you were such a philosopher. Let's see... Everybody seems foolish to somebody else, I don't know if age matters much. It's just that younger people have a luxury of not having to deal with the same consequences or repercussions older people might have to for the same actions." She shrugged as she folded skirts. "As for love--I really don't know. Sometimes..." She hesitated, not sure if she wanted to share this thought, this idea that felt very much hers, but Aera wasn't likely to think much of it anyway. She'd probably just laugh and say Loretta herself was the fool, and go on her merry way. "Sometimes I wonder if we haven't made love a lot harder than it really is. Like we've made it into some kind of glorified challenge that is also somehow it's own reward, and maybe if we all quit making a game out of it and used our heads it wouldn't be such a big deal." She bit her cheek and frowned. "But then, does not making a big deal out of love cheapen it somehow, and make it obsolete?" She shook her head. "Now who's philosophizing?"
~~~~~~~~~~
Augustus started laughing. "I have to say, I think you are the first person who has ever actually used the word 'vibe' in a conversation with me," he told her, amused. He paused at the end of the row to wait for her to catch up."Alas, I do not have a 'reading tree.' Perhaps I ought to find one. But what about your friend?" He started walking again, veering towards the section of fiction, knowing that would hold more interest for her.

Torr:
(Oh! Desserts! I remember now, don't you worry. Lol.)
Augustus just nodded after her outburst. "There is," he agreed, "and there's always more to learn." He did laugh, though, when the best she could say about his day's work was that it sounded "terribly boring." "Trust me, I've done worse," he assured her. He paused at a set of glass, panes doors set in the outer wall and pulled them open. The doors led to a balcony overlooking the castle garden and the mountains in the distance, behind which she sun had set and was still throwing the last of its colors into the sky. Candles lit a small table laden with chocolates, cookies, and the like, as well as a bottle of champagne and a pitcher of water, in case his company didn't care for the taste of champagne. Two padded chairs were set on either side of the table, and Augustus pulled out Cordelia's for her. "I couldn't do two dinner dates in one night, but, well, this idea of candles and chocolates sounded romantic in my head..."

Augustus chuckled as well, glad she hadn't responded badly to his jesting. "No, I don't," he assured her. "Dogs?" He scrunched his eyebrows. "The only dog movies I can recall are ones where the dog dies. You enjoy those?" he asked skeptically. "There isn't anything wrong with it, I suppose, it only sounds a little heartbreaking."

Augustus smiled indulgently. "I imagine everybody does. Don't apologize for enjoying something." He took a bite of his food. "Now that you say it, though, I think I do remember offering to go for a ride with you someday. We'll have to do that soon."

Lilianna had to actually work at stopping herself from reacting too vibrantly. "That sounds absolutely woncerful!" She finally came up with an appropriate response. "Tell me about your hobbies and what you enjoy. I'd love to spend a date with you doing something that you enjoy." She glanced away for a brief moment. "I know that I'm one of the selected and you plan the dayes based on our interests but I don't want our dates to just be all about me." She was once again rambling and blushed again. "That is if you'd like to have more dates with me after this one." She didn't want to assume he did just in case he chose to send her home. She needed to be prepared for rejection.

Augustus smiled and resisted the urge to tell her to calm down. He meant well by it, but in his experience, telling somebody to calm down rarely ever resulted in their actual calming down. He would simply have to give an air of calm himself, and hope it rubbed off on her. He was pleased to realize that in fact he was calm now. It was hard to be nervous about such a wisp of a girl, maybe, especially one who was so nervously giddy herself. So he smiled at her and said, "Let's only worry about this one date for right now, and enjoy the present. For my hobbies...hm. I enjoy learning, in whatever form I can. I read often, when I have free time. Practicing languages. I do also enjoy riding, though likely not as much as you do," he finished with a chuckle.

(Nice nick! Anyway, let's just pretend they're all identical triplets and make it thirty-some.
Anyway, how do you even spell philosophizing? Is that it? Lol who can know?)
"We're just a bunch of philosophizing maids," Aera replied, smiling. She looked at the ceiling--it was a nice ceiling, she supposed, as it was a palace ceiling and all--then looked back at her work. "Love is quite a challenge, though. I guess it started out difficult enough--winning the lady's hand, catching the youth's eye--and ended up this gigantic battle. This is what the Selection is, anyway--a romanticized battle. A fight to the death of feelings. Something dramatic like that." She flung out one arm, as a dramatic damsel in a dramatic play might, then finished her stack of shirts and took Loretta's. "Work on the skirts or trousers or something and make everyone's life easier." She grinned and started on a blue shirt. "Anyway, if you weren't a maid, do you think you'd enter? What would you be in for? It certainly sounds like a fairy tale--meet the prince, woo him into marriage--but what is it, really, the nitty and gritty?"
---
"Her name is Louisa. She likes science fiction and history--how the past can influence the future, I guess. We were both young, maybe nine, when she chose the aspen in our backyard would be her reading tree. Without asking, of course. She planted herself there one day and opened up a book--my parents were too amused and pleased that someone was reading to send her off, and I thought she was fascinating. One of my best friends. I'm still writing to her--she thinks this whole thing is a sham." Kryslyn! She thought to herself as soon as the words came out of her mouth. What was it that was turning all her words into devastatingly disastrous flurries of speech? Since when had she leapt before she looked? Was it the presence of the prince? The library, which felt familiar and so like home she forgot her palace manners. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to offend, or get her in trouble. Forget about it." She wandered off to another aisle, hoping it could all blow over. Selection or not, insulting the very thing of it--even indirectly--certainly wasn't a good way to go about.

"Which ones do you know?" She asked him, curious if there was any they both knew aside from obviously English. Now this information did surprise him. "Really?" It was not necessarily unusual for Illean children to learn a foreign language. In all state schools, it was a requirement. But to reach even a self-proclaimed level of fluency was rather rare. He wondered what had driven her to study so hard. "Well, I know French, of course, and Portuguese. It's only wise, since those countries are our neighbors. Spanish wasn't hard to pick up once I knew Portuguese pretty well, but there are some differences of course. And I'm trying to learn Mandarin as well, but," he scrunched his face in a frown, "it's very difficult."

Goodness, but there was a lot of laundry today. "I don't know if I would sign up. Probably not. It does sound like a fairy tale. But fairy tales aren't for me. Would you?" ~~~~~~~~ Augustus was smiling and slowly moving along as he listened. The smile faded, though, to hear his Selection called a sham. What did that even mean? What about it could possibly be seen as deceitful or fake? It was unconvential, extremely so, and he knew that, but it was also practical, in its way. In many ways. He was hurt for a moment, and angered, but, he reasoned, at least she hadn't signed up even though she had no faith in it. Not like one girl in particular that he knew. "Well, it's not for everybody, and it's not meant to be," he replied in an impressively even tone. Only a slight redness on his neck have any sign he was upset, and already that was rapidly fading. "I only need it to work for one lady. Your friend Louisa is free to think what she will."

"I have not heard of Homeward Bound. But I would love to watch it with you, provided no dogs die." He led her down a stairway and a short hall and opened the door to the theater. It wasn't overly large, but all the chairs were the sort of soft, stuffed recliners every dedicated napped dreamed of, the lights were remote controlled, and there was a snack bar and popcorn maker in the back, because what was a theater without popcorn? At least this date would be comfortable--no worries about perfect postures intense conversation.

(Hey guys, so--lately I've been struggling to come up with even a few lines of RPing responses. I'm never quite sure how to respond or what will keep the conversation going. My muse seems to be failing for me, and I'm finding it harder to get into Kryslyn's head. I'm going to break away from this RP. I don't want to drag anyone down, and I think I would hinder this RP more than I would help it. Do with Kryslyn what you will--hand her off to someone else, eliminate her quickly, whatever you think if best. Thank you for this excellent RP, which has kept me going and challenged me as an RPer! I wish you all fun times and Augustus luck in love )

She asked, walking to the edge of the theatre and looking at the popcorn machine, and all the other things that were around. "Well I guess you must, with something this big!"
