Heathersky sighed. “Very well.” She spoke. She beckoned Ashenkit over and laid down. She pulled both kits closer to her. Good Starclan he even poured like Beetleclaw. “Brownleaf was mates with a cat named Meadowbrook.” She started softly. “Meadowbrook was a tunneler in the clans. She is the one who killed your father.”

Eclipsesky immediately tensed at Palegaze's question. He should be used to blunt questions after having Stormfury and Palegaze as best friends, yet it still shocked him that he would bring it up again so soon. Eclipesesky took a deep breath and gave a small nod. He had meant every word. "Berrywatcher is disappointed in me, I saw him at the last half-moon. Silverspirit.. she wants me to be her mate, I didn't want to treat Clovekit because of who her mother was. I can't do this anymore Palegaze, the guilt is eating at me more and more every day." Palegaze felt a hollow sadness in his chest. Eclipsesky had always been an exceptionally gifted cat, seeming to find passion and purpose in the healing of others, but if this is truly what he wanted... Palegaze took a steadying breath before speaking. "Okay," he said. "I won't talk you out of it, but I won't encourage you, either. Just know that I'm beside you."

Eclipsesky smiled sadly, pressing his face into Palegaze's shoulder. "I can't speak with Starclan anymore," he whispered. He hadn't even told Dawnshadow yet, he had barely admitted to himself that it was the truth. "At the last half-moon, I woke up and couldn't feel the presence of Starclan anymore. The only thing that's making me a medicine cat is my knowledge of herbs. I am not useful to the clan like this."

All his life, he had been envious of how the other kits got to play with their fathers, and Heathersky had never let herself talk about it. He knew how much it hurt his mother, he could tell! So there, in the nest with Ashsong, was the kits of the cat who had taken his father away from him and Ashenkit, and from their mother. "That's not fair..." Ravenkit whispered, before a ferocious snarl crossed his little muzzle. " That's not fair! Those kits get to have Ashsong, and Thorndash, and Brownleaf too? He gets to just bring them here, and my father's gone?! That's not fair!" He cried, anger and sadness making him choke on a little sob.

Palegaze stilled, the realization crashing over him like a wave.
"Oh, Eclipsesky," he breathed. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
He licked the top of his cousin's head, trying to comfort him. "You've cared for this Clan for many moons," he said. "Perhaps...perhaps it's time to let it care for you. I won't tell a single cat what I know - if you'd like, you can even say you just feel it is time for you to step down. You've served WindClan for so long..."

Leopardpaw settled into what had used to be a patch of grass on the outskirts of the camp, but was now a frostbitten clump. Buzzing with excitement at beginning his journey to becoming a WindClan warrior, he began to lick his black and white spotted fur clean. Damp leeched into his pelt as he wrapped his silky black tail around his small white paws and stared up towards the leaf-bare sky. Nothing stood between him and StarClan above. StarClan, please give me the strength I need to get through my training! I want to be the best I can, I want to make my parents proud.

It was clear the tom had just come out of the nursery, and his slightly messy pelt was courtesy of playing with his four rambunctious kits.

Eclipsesky shook, a new wave of sadness crashing over him as he relieved waking up to a silent moonstone, the comforting whispers of Starclan quiet for the first time in his life. "Please don't tell anyone. Dawnshadow doesn't even know. I will tell Swiftstar when the time comes, but not yet. I-I'm not ready yet. It has to be before the next half-moon though, I can't face the moonstone again knowing it won't work for me. I've served the clan my whole life, Berrywatcher was teaching me herbs when I was barely 5 moons old. But what will I do Palegaze? I don't want to retire and be an elder. I'm too young for that. But, I only know very basic defense fighting moves and I've never trained as a moor-runner or tunneler. What good will I be to the clan once I step down?"

"I will teach you," Palegaze said instantly, firmly. "I won't tell a soul, and I will stand beside you when you need me, when you want me."
"I'm already teaching Finchpaw; you could be a great help when he's learning to spar, too. Until he gains more skill, I don't think I'd be much of a good match against him," he meowed.

Eclipsesky looked up at Palegaze, a glimmer of hope simmering in his chest. "You'll teach me to be a tunneler? What if I'm no good? I know tunneling is in my blood but I've only been down there a couple of times and there was always an experienced tunneler with me. I.. I haven't been down there since I helped dig Lavendersun's body out."

"If it's what you want, then I'll do my best," he said. "You're small, I think you'd be a natural." Sensing his hesitation, he continued, "And if the tunnels aren't for you, then..."
"I'm sure Silverspirit would be happy to train you. And I'd run with you, under the stars." Palegaze purred.
"You have cats that care about you, Eclipsesky. Let us take care of you, the way you've always taken care of us."

Leopardpaw jumped at the voice of his mentor. He gave his chest a lick before looking up at the dark warrior with a scar. "Yes," Leopardpaw sighed, "I just hope that I will make my family proud, given that they're tunnelers." His pelt twitched with the thought of rushing through the heather that covered the moor, and the things he'd learn from Cinderscar. Despite his family's role in the clan, he knew he was born to run aboveground.

Eclipsesky let out a sigh, burrowing his head into Palegaze's shoulder. "I don't think I could ask for better kin than you Palegaze. Thank you." He stayed silent for a moment, processing the whirlwind of events that had occurred since this morning. "Maybe we can go out again at sunrise tomorrow. You can check the tunnels and I can check my catmint like we were supposed to do today, but we can go by tunnel instead of over the moor? I'll follow right behind you and I can just get used to being down there again."

Palegaze leaned into Eclipsesky, breathing his familiar scent and enjoying his warmth.
"Neither could I," he replied simply. He basked in the silence with Eclipsesky before answering him.
"That sounds good to me. It can be just us two, if you'd like? Or should I bring Finchpaw along so we have extra paws for herbs?"

Eclipsesky shifted nervously, he didn't want to make a fool of himself in front of Finchpaw. Or give away to the young apprentice that something had changed about him. "I think this time, just the two of us. I don't want you to have to worry about both of us. Maybe once Finchpaw or I are more comfortable down there the three of us can go together."

Palegaze nodded.
"Okay," he meowed. "Tomorrow, near sunhigh, we'll go to get your catmint through the tunnels."
He licked Eclipsesky's ears again in a show of comfort. "I'm glad you trust me."

Dashclaw laughed at his son's comment. "Don't worry, Antbite, you'll get all sappy with a she-cat someday too." “Not that sappy! No way!” Antbite scoffed, shaking his head with a grimace, though he startled a bit at Soarshadow’s gentle laugh at his side. “So all that mooning after Frostblossom and Hazelear you were doing to try and impress them the other day didn’t count?” “Well! That-… you!” Antbite stammered, before he shot back. “You’re one to talk, Soarshadow, with how you were acting all sappy when Crowfrost acknowledged you the other day, he didn’t even say anything besides giving that Crowfrost nod of his, and you were tripping over your paws about it.” “T-that’s not!…” Soarshadow squeaked, eyes wide, before he turned his head and puffed. “Whatever…” Dashclaw chuckled and looked to his mate in amusement. If you asked him as a younger cat if he'd have kits, he would've told you no. Who knew life could be so full? He looked from his mate to his kits and joy filled his heart. And more kits on the way. Dashclaw breathed a little nervously. He hoped he would be as good a father to this next litter as he was this first one.

"Luckily, Sagefoot and Stonepath have always been known for their kindness and fairness. I know that they will be proud of you, no matter what path you choose. Besides, your aunts and uncles on both sides are all moor-runners too, so there's still kin you can learn from." He purred. "And from me, of course. My job is to teach you all I know. So. Want to get some running exercises in?"

Not that we slept in a Warrior's den anyway." Grasslight admitted, finding that to always be the hardest part of the experience, having to be in a den instead of out under the stars. She looked softly at Dashclaw as Antbite, Soarshadow and Weaselstride moved off to prepare for their Warrior vigil. Grasslight touched her tail to her mate's shoulder. "...I imagine the patrol you took with Sagefoot and Harewhisker was more... eventful, than just bringing Brownleaf's kits in. Was Harewhisker his usual self?" She sighed, knowing how distant the brothers had been for a while. She still had a twinge of disdain for how Harewhisker acted around Dashclaw, but she never voiced it unless to directly defend her mate.

"I'm glad you trust me." *presses fast forward button* Eclipsesky was nearly vibrating with nervous energy as he stepped out of the medicine cat den a few moments before the sun would reach its highest peak. He had eaten a small rabbit this morning in preparation and even groomed his fur properly. The tom looked more rested than he had since the last medicine cat gathering. His eyes scanned the clearing to see if Palegaze had risen from his nest yet, padding over to where the warriors slept below the open sky.

Okay, we’ll be starting by doing a run to Outlook rock. I want to practice your stamina. Running after rabbits can take alot of energy if you don’t practice your distance running. I want you to keep at my pace, got it?” Cinderscar nodded, before he broke out into an easy level run towards the hills of the moors.

With a nod, Leopardpaw squinted his eyes, trying to block the gusts of wind from making him lose the path he was starting to track. He slid past Cinderscar a hair and started following the weaving path through the heather. This route was well-worn, obviously used by other patrols. "This isn't too bad!" Leopardpaw called for Cinderscar with a glance upwards from his path. Shortly after, his claws struck a half-hidden root, causing him to stumble a bit. Slowing his pace after the pain of having his claw stuck he sighed, slowing back down to run beside Cinderscar.
