Aedan smiled when Damianos defended him, but put his hand on his upper arm to let him know it was okay. He didn't mind being called Celt, for he had been called much worse things. Aedan too had time to finish his first bowl and eat as second - after all, Atreus had warned him he would need it - be for either was time for the pair to climb back into the carriage. Aedan settled into his own seat as Damianos got into his own, and moments later the carriage was moving again, taking them towards whatever kind of crazy, hyper gladiators awaited them back at the training grounds. Damianos glanced up half an hour later as Atreus knocked. There was obvious excitement in the young mans eyes as he stood, stretching his arms above his head, wincing slightly as old scar wounds on his back were pulled. He really wanted Aedan to meet his... well, family, he supposed. The picture in his mind felt complete, and he knew a brightness had returned to his eyes that the others would definitely notice, but he didn't care- Aedan was here, and that was all Damianos cared about. When they arrived Atreus hopped down and opened the back for them. 'Alright you two, let's go.' He said, leading the way. Damianos had been correct about the air; it was warm and fresh in the lungs. The sun shone on their backs and highlighted the rolling hills and fields around the guild; which was more like a bunch of houses built into a compound. There was about five overall; one main, huge house which sat on its own, and then two on either side, surrounding a large training ground. They had a pit to fight in, whipping posts, a full rack of equipment, and even had their own stables full of large horses, which some of the obviously younger gladiators were cleaning out. Damianos relaxed as he approached, raising his arm in greeting. There was a cheerful roar from one of the groups of men; 'Well I'll be! The Dog came back alive!!!' The person whom had spoken walked out. He was at least a head taller than Damianos, and far, far larger. He looked in his late twenties, and was very handsome, save for an ugly scar covering his right eye- a blind spot. He was obviously Roman, but had a great friendliness to him as he approached. 'How many times do I need to tell you, /Eagle/, that I don't go down that easy?' Damianos grinned. 'You quite sure about that?' Aquila jested, sliding into a low stance- wrestling. 'You wanna go?' Damianos laughed, running at the male and slamming into him, the two locking hands as they struggled to overpower each other. Atreus rolled his eyes and folded his arms. 'Wait for it.' He murmured. Aquila threw Damianos onto his back and winded the poor guy, who started gasping and wheezing, unable to move. 'And once again, the dog is delegated to Puppy.' Aquila snorted. He looked up, immediately noticing the standout-appearance of the celt. 'Who's this?' He asked, folding his arms across his chest. 'This is Aedan, a Celtic gladiator from Damianos' old trainer.' Aquila stared, eyes widening. 'This is him?' He murmured, slowly walking around Aedan. 'I almost got signed on to fight you, around three years ago.' He mused, before standing back again, and finally helping Damianos to his feet, slapping him on the back so he could breathe. 'Atreus turned the offer away, said you'd be too experienced.'

Aedan had a feeling of nervous excitement for the whole half-hour after Atreus knocked to let them know there were almost there. When they pulled up, Aedan stepped out before Damianos, but the Greek's eagerness had carried him ahead of Aedan while he Celt took in the environment.
The countryside was so different to the countryside of his home - here the hills were bare save for smattering of cypress trees of vineyards. In his home the trees were densely forested. But these hills were green and sang with life, and it was this that reminded him of home.
Aedan couldn't help but smile at the cheers and jesting that ensued, laughing when Damianos allowed himself to be thrown for what was probably the hundredth time. "And they say I'm stubborn" He had laughed, watching as Aquila aided a still - winded Damianos to his feet. The moment Aquila caught sight of Aedan, the Celt knew it was his turn.
"I've been fighting for seven years," Aedan shrugged in response "If there's one thing I have, it's experience"
He watched Aquila, fully prepared for possible surprise wrestling. He had no doubt that Aquila would probably want to have a chance to fight Aedan, since he had not been given fee chance to fight him three years ago.
He glanced at Damianos, quickly taking a moment to check that he was okay as the man recovered from his mini-fight with Aquila.
Being taller but smaller than Damianos, Aedan was almost as tall but nowhere near as large as Aquila, so he suspected that any wrestling match against this man would end badly, but at least he would be prepared.

He opened his mouth to speak- Then released a girly shriek as Damianos heaved his entire body weight into him, this time the two falling to the floor, rolling around. 'Not this time!!!' Damianos shouted. 'Get off me, you big useless idiot!!' Aquila yelled back, very easily rolling Damianos and pinning him down, sitting in his lap and holding him down by the shoulders. There was a loud burst of laughter from the group; 'my my, Aquila seems to have realised his affections!!' 'I am going to pumMEL THE LOT OF YOU!!!' Aquila replied, leaping off Damianos and sprinting like a bull towards the group, who scattered with varying screams of panic. Damianos sat up, wiping his brow and looking at Aedan, face flushed with excitement as he tried to catch his breath again.

Aedan burst into laughter as the rather intense moment was interrupted by the fight between Aquila and Damianos, and Aedan couldn't stop laughing as each moment unfolded and soon every gladiator seemed to be in hysterics.
Aedan turned to his grinning friend, offering with a hand to help him up as he said "Are you expecting me to congratulate you on your wrestling skills, then? Because I'm not sure anything you just did counted as s valid tactic."
"So," He said as his friend stood up again "That was Aquila"
He knew now exactly how serious Atreus and Damianos had been when they talked about the intensity of the gladiators Aedan now would share a home with for a considerable amount of time, most probably. He had to say that he liked this environment, and the way the gladiators interacted with one another. It was a fresh of breath air for him after the Arena.

He had to say that he liked this environment, and the way the gladiators interacted with one another. It was a fresh of breath air for him after the Arena. (Sorry for poof, had dinner!) 'That was Aquila.' Damianos replied, offering him a rare shy smile. 'I'm sorry for his behaviour. He should cool off when we get another newbie.' He watched as Aquila began to beat up one of the gladiators who had been making fun of him, and struggled to hold back a snort. 'Honestly.' 'Alright, you two.' Atreus said, looking at them both. 'Damianos, I'll let you and Aedan share a room since you're on your own for the time being. Go get that sorted and clean yourselves up, then come straight down for morning drills.' 'Yes, Master.' Damianos replied, bowing, then smiling at Aedan and leading the way. He headed to the house on the right of the mansion, and walked inside. It was an actual large home, set out like an inn might be. A man stood behind a bar, and noises could be heard coming from a kitchen; the bottom floor was made up of a long table with chairs, and then a leisure area with more comfortable seats such as armchairs and benches sat around a fire, for on a night when training was over. Damianos took Aedan upstairs, passing doors that had name plaques on them; Aquila was next door to Damianos, and shared a room with someone named 'Nuallan'. 'Nuallan is out at the moment.' Damianos said, lips twitching. 'But I think you may like him when you meet him.' He entered his room. It was very large, with two beds inside, placed next to each other to make a double. On the floor was a sheepskin rug, and there were a few battered or broken shields lying around- keepsakes from won fights. He had a shelf on one wall, which held a few books. Also scattering the walls, pinned up, were drawings in charcoal; most of them were near-perfect depictions of portraits of the other gladiators, as well as action drawings, swift scribbled sketches which somehow told a story. Damianos blushed when he realised this. 'I, uh, draw a little.' He explained, before walking to the beds and pulling them apart. 'Where would you like yours?' He asked, looking up.

Aedan did a quick bow to Atreus and hurried upstairs to assist Damianos in sorting out the bedroom. He looked around at the rooms, impressed by the conditions in which these men lived. It was entirely different to what he had been used to. He had no idea slaves could ever live like this.
Aedan noted the name 'Nuallan' was a Gaelic name. Was he another Celt? Perhaps from Gaul? It would make a change for him, as he very rarely saw gladiators with whom he shared a culture. He had only seen a gladiator of his own ethnicity once or twice.
He followed his friend into the bedroom, and eyed the drawings at he same time Damianos gave his shy and embarrassed explanation.
"Don't be embarassed" Aedan responded "they are amazing. You're very talented."
When the other man asked where he wanted his bed, Aedan approached and took over 'I'll do it" He smiled, pushing it over to the other end of the wall, so that both gladiators had plenty of space but were not too far away from each other.
"There," He smiled "It's sorted. We should go and clean up so we can get to the drills Atreus was walking about"
He could already hear that the building was going quieter, presumably as the gladiators started to head out to the drills. They probably still had plenty of time, but Aedan did not want to be late to anything on his first day here. After all, he hadn't been the new guy in 7 years, and he didn't want to muck it up. Not this time.

Not this time. Damianos smiled and headed out to have a quick wash and change his clothes, providing some for Aedan to get into as well. He then headed back downstairs and outside, lining up with the other gladiators, crossing his arms behind his back as he stood to attention. Atreus walked the line, examining them all closely to ensure they were in peak condition, before nodding. 'Alright. 50 laps, go!' The gladiators shouted their assent and began to jog around the training ground, Damianos trying to keep pace with Aedan. 'This is so he can see if we have any injuries we might be hiding.' He explained. 'Most of the gladiators here would prefer to fight than sit out, so...' he smiled, glancing back at Aquila who was leisurely saving his stamina. 'It's also to see how long we last, and if we need any stamina training.'

50 laps. That would be fine. Aedan didn't get his running muscles from nothing. He had grown up running among the hills, and he would often just run for miles through the forests when he was a teenager. He had wanted his own space, in those months before he was captured, and he had spent more time than usual running and being out amongst the hills in that time.
Aedan nodded as Damianos talked. He was listening but he was also focusing on keeping his pace and his breathing steady. The worst thing for stamina was not having a rhythm. Even runs like this, which were relatively short and easy for Aedan, would be difficult if you didn't find a rhythm.

On the thirtieth lap, Damianos patted Aedan on the back and jerked his thumb back, saving energy instead of talking. He was tiring quickly, not built for running. He dropped back to run with Aquila, the two keeping a much more comfortable rhythm between them. Atreus watched Aedan more closely than the rest, needing to see what he was capable of. He seemed satisfied at the end, and let them all line up. 'Stretch, then we'll move on.' He said. Damianos rejoined Aedan, struggling to catch his breath. 'You... weren't lying... when you said... you could run.' He wheezed, hands on his hips.

Aedan nodded to Damianos as he stretched "I grew up doing a lot of it. You spent your time fighting pankration and I spent mine running."
He pointed out the pankration to remind his friend that there were plenty of things Aedan would be no match for him in. Wrestling and many other feats of strength among them. The two were very different in terms of what they were good at, but it was that which made them such a good team when they fought together.
Aedan was quite different to most of the gladiators because of his running. His build was still athletic but leaner, and it was what gave him his speed in battle. But he didn't have the strength of most of the other gladiators and instead relied on his speed.

'Unfortunately,' he said, stretching out his arms, 'Pankration does not always come in handy in a fight.' He grinned. 'Unless it's against Aquila.' Aquila snorted from where he was nearby, shaking his head at the young Greek. 'Cocky idiot.' He said. Atreus examined them all, then clapped his hands. 'All right! You know the rest; I want fifty push-ups, then you're to spend the next hour training on the dummies! After that you can have leisure time- try to make it useful!' Damianos grinned. 'Awesome. Aquila, want to play kick-up?' 'Sure. Your Celt can join too if he thinks he can keep the ball in the air.' Aquila replied, dropping to the ground to start his push-ups, alternating between hands- doing them one-handed.

Push-ups. Now these were something Aedan was not built for. Most of his strength was in his legs and not his upper body.
When he heard the offer for kick-up he shrugged "I'll give it a try, but I warn you now I'll probably be useless at it"
With that Aedan dropped to do his own push-ups, doing his two handed instead of trying to show off like Aquila,at which point he would probably embarass himself. No, he figured it would be easier for him to simply do everything within a comfortable range rather than risking embarrassment on his first day.

Damianos finished his push-ups first, and sat beside Aedan until he had finished, offering him encouragement whenever he saw him getting slower or more tired. When he was done, Damianos took up his practice on a training dummy, and Aquila acted as a 'wall' for the younger gladiators to try and get past. Finally the hour was up, and Damianos yawned tiredly, watching the group become smaller. Aquila retrieved a ball and they all stood in a circle. 'Just keep the ball in the air, and pass it to whom ever you want.' Aquila told Aedan, 'but you aren't allowed to use your hands. No catching or hitting the ball with them- arms are allowed, and anything else.' He kicked the ball at Damianos, who bounced it with his knee, and gently kicked it to Aedan.

He was a little surprised that Aquila had taken to him so easily but he supposed that he and Damianos were already friends and that as friends of Damianos they were probably likely to get on anyway. But he couldn't quite believe that the two of them had almost fought. It's going to be when Nutella comes back. And I'm sure Atreus will want Aedan joining us.' 'A full team.' Damianos grinned, as he received the ball and returned it to Aedan. 'I'm excited to see him again.' A sly look came into his eyes. 'Don't be too loud when he- GAK!' He fell backwards with astounding force as Aquila kicked the ball directly into his face, wearing a terrifyingly stoic expression. 'I could say the same for you.' He blandly replied. Damianos groaned, holding his nose.

'You didn't have to kick it so hard! I was only joking.' 'You're crude.' Aquila responded, folding his arms across his chest. Damianos opened his mouth as though to retaliate, but seemed to change his mind and instead gave Aquila a sheepish grin and apologised. He looked up at Aedan. " Damianos nodded with understanding. 'Our home was quite bare.' He replied, 'other than the hearth and the farm.' He finished his food, then examined Aedan, tilting his head slightly, searching for any further scars that might be on his body. He wasn't sure why he was so protective over the other man, but he assumed it was somewhat due to being torn away from him two years ago. There was worry in his eyes as he searched. He wouldn't allow Aedan to be harmed again whilst he was around.

Aedan, of course, had accumulated more scars on his skin over the past two years and he caught Damianos checking him and sighed.
"Damianos," He said gently 'You don't need to check. Of course I have more scars, as I am sure you have. We are gladiators. Don't worry too much about me, okay?"
But Aedan knew why he had more scars. Just like the trainer had said, the crowd had stopped finding Aedan particularly exotic or exciting. And Aedan's trainer had taken the opportunity to punish Aedan even more than usual once he was out of the spotlight and people stopped caring.

Damianos murmured, his worried gaze not changing at Aedan's words. Damianos himself had acquired much less scars; the elder gladiators in his group were extremely experienced, and tended to care for the younger ones in group fights. Damianos had been placed in the centre of the formation at first, but now he fought front-centre, with Aquila on his right, and Nuallan covering both his and Aquila's sides.

He stood up, lifting the material of his shirt, baring his torso and back. Some wounds he had obviously sustained in the Arena, some he had clearly gained in other ways. Some were clearly old and others were clearly much newer.

Aedan rolled his eyes "Fine, but I don't know which are new and which are old" He stood up, lifting the material of his shirt, baring his torso and back. Some wounds he had obviously sustained in the Arena, some he had clearly gained in other ways. Some were clearly old and others were clearly much newer. Damianos stood and moved over, examining his scars, before gently running his fingers over a few of the worst ones, annoyance and upset in his gaze as he saw how they marred him. He then turned his attention to the newest wound on Aedan's stomach, the one Damianos himself had caused. 'Does it hurt?' He guiltily asked, brushing his fingertips over it.
