Here! I was in class so I couldn't reply. Everything sounds great!
What if the Night Howlers had a code involving which dogs could join, and an initiation rite of some sorts?

Heya Sky, and it's fine! I think an initiation of some sort for getting into it sounds great! Although, I more so see them as a group who, if the leader wants someone to join, most likely, they'll force them to join or get his goons to attack them or something. They'd only want the strongest of the strongest.

So Team Skull :3
What if they had a sort of ranking system, like the leader, and then the main pack, the side pack, and the tail pack (just provisional names, feel free to change). The main pack would be the leader's chosen, the strongest dogs in the pack and the ones who control everything at the leader's say. The side pack are the dogs who arent as well respected as the main pack but arent the worst off, seen as mediocre but useful. The tail pack are the dogs who are seen as the pitiful low dogs who are only kept around for menial tasks and given no respect. When a dog wants to join, they have to choose a dog to fight. If they win, they essentially take that dog's place while that dog is demoted to the tail pack. If they lose, they themselves go to the tail pack.
Its a rough idea but thas the gist of what i was thinking =w=

Like Team Skull but...more efficient. xD
But ohh, I like that idea. Depending on Harv's input, we may implement some form of that into the Night Howlers. Maybe not necessarily have different 'packs' but the way their system goes and their ranking is somewhat like that, since we don't want to make things too overly complex with their systems/customs/etc, But, it's definitely a food for a thought! <3

Actually, thinking about it Sky, I like your idea a lot. The only thing I might see a need to change is the demotion part, since there are of course going to be people who want to have their dog join, but I'm not sure if anyone would want their own character to be demoted in rank if someone else's character wants to join/is forced to join, so we may have to brainstorm a bit on that part.
Although, of course everything does revolve around the whole 'you can challenge someone to switch ranks with them'.

Yeah that's true. I guess a mitigation to this is that its planned beforehand so a person who wants their character to get demoted could plan beforehand to lose the fight?
As for locations, I think it would be really cool to have them be on a beachside city. Like perhaps a sort of beach camp in the outskirts of the city made out of junk, and when the earthquake happens, that chunk breaks out and carries them out to sea? Just le random thoughts XD

Yes, that could happen, so we could include it as a situational sort of thing if it's planned but not the main go-to when a dog is joining. I see a more metropolitan like city - like new york, but the beach side could definitely be a location in it. I doubt they'd be carried out to sea for the whole 'leaving the city plot' since, if we're being somewhat realistic - a lot of dogs would die and I think we might be going for that whole 'traveling together' aspect as they search for a new home. I mean whenever the earthquake happens, it could carry a few out to sea, but to die most likely. The Night Howlers could live in some sort of abandoned, torn down warehouse of some sort that's filled with junk but...is pretty lit lol. The Shepherds I see living in a much more 'meek' location. Perhaps a small junkyard or maybe even underground some how, be it a small sewage way or just an underground labyrinth that formed from a sinkhole...since a swage might be too much for their poor doggy sense.

If it seemed like I was online for the whole night, I wasn't. I forgot to close one of my tabs on mobile and now I have a bunch of stuff to reply to, whoops. e7e'
Anywho, I do like the initiation rite for the Nighthowlers, as well as the hierarchy. I'm fine with the rank names, I've come up with some other options, too. You don't have to use these, just little thoughts that popped into my head.
The Leader - The King The Main Pack - The Soldiers/The Knights The Side Pack - The Sidekicks The Tail Pack - The Grounders, or simply, the Tails.
Other "Traditions" 3-Day Street Survival - There's a time when every dog looks to rise up the totem pole of the Nighthowlers, specifically a right-hand for the leader. That's where this survival initiation comes into play. The willing dogs are sent to a certain parts of the city, and they are to survive there on their own (with NH members keeping a close eye on them) for three days. Those who remain in the end are the very lucky few who are honored as members.
- - Death Battle - If a dog wishes to become the new leader, they must challenge the current leader to a fight to the death at midnight. The winner becomes the new leader. It is a very violent fight, and can last up to an hour.
- - Punishments - If a dog is found guilty of any harsh crime, they will be immediately punished. And punishments in the NHs aren't pretty. They can be performed on anyone, no matter their age. They include public humiliation, banishment, severe wounds, even death.

It's fine! Occasionally it popped up and said you were online, but for the most part, it didn't. ^~^ At least...I think? xD
Ohhh...I love the name 'The King' for the leader. For the 'main pack' since they're not really 'main' I was thinking they could be called the 'Elites'? A small handful of dogs that serve as The King's right hand dogs/second in commands. The Side Pack pack could possibly be called something like the goons/grunts/lackeys/punks. Idk since they do operate like a 'gang' of some kind, I had wanted them to sound sort of like it? However, simply 'the howlers' would make sense too since they are called the night howlers. For the 'lower end' dogs, 'tail dogs' does sound pretty fitting. Other suggestions from me are; The Street Rats, the Junk Dogs, idk?
The 3-day initiation sounds pretty cool! Should we perhaps make it a sort of sometimes done thing for The King's amusement, rather than it being done every time a dog wants to move up in ranks? For something like that, I could see a simple fight being done - similar to survivors, in which the two dogs fight and if the challenger wins, they switch ranks. Perhaps they gain the honor to make a permanent scar somewhere on the other dog's body as a sign of their victory? But the 3-day initiation could be done similar to a gladiator like thing - it being done when the King feels as if he needs to 'flush out the weak dogs' of his gang The death battle is also a given, although it might not be used much since the current leader is sort of like...well, the final boss - the seemingly undefeatable tyrant dog. Of course, for plot purposes, people could challenge them, but they'd most likely lose. I think I have a few traditions/code things in mind - but I need to go do something really quick!
I hope I don't sound very overly commanding or like...shoving ideas on you or something!

Okay, so the King is a go. 'The Elites' is good too; I think it's better than 'The Knights', actually. For the side pack, I think the 'Grunts/Punks' would suffice. And for the Tails' name, I really like 'The Street Rats'! :0
Actually, I like the 3-day survival thing being a sort of recreation for the King rather than a demotion test - think of it as a game (like the Hunger Games ahaha) to evaluate and/or "remove" the members that need it. Since only the strongest survive in the harshness of the city, it'd be a very grueling and difficult rite.
Mm, I agree. Maybe the fight to the death can be dropped along the way, unless we can find a way to alternate it.
Oh, I'd love to hear them!
And don't worry, you're not putting my ideas down or anything! X'D You're the leader of this RP, so whatever floats your boat is fine! ^u^

Okay, fantastic! We got the rank names for the Night Howlers then~! I think grunts would be a good name for them - since punks may make someone think of...well, a punk, even if I do like it. I'm glad you like The Street Rats! Oh yusss....hunger game dog style! >:3 And yus, exactly! I'm sure we could play some 'npc' dogs too that can die/be an enemy to others within the pack during this event. Either way though, yus! I also hope you don't mind - but I would really love to claim the role of 'The King' since I love rping the 'big bad boss' type of characters. If you wanted to have that role though, please be sure to tell me! And okay, here we go! As stated, to move up in ranks, the dog challenges the other dog of the rank they want, in which the two dogs fight and if the challenger wins, they switch ranks. I wasn't' sure of your opinion on it but - Perhaps they gain the honor to make a permanent scar somewhere on the other dog's body as a sign of their victory? Should we do one more 'custom' in relation to their name, the 'night howlers'? Perhaps they howl to symbolize their coming when it comes to claiming territory within the series? Not exactly sure. Their code could be loosely based on something like this {which'll be fluffed up more for the actual thread of course}; - Never be weak or cowardly or taint the gang's name. Weak dogs will be chased off - or possibly killed if they get in The King's way.
- It's every dog for themselves. If a higher up wants your food, either cough it up or prepare to fight for i - excluding if its the king. The king has rights over all food.
- The King's word is absolute law. Don't listen to em'? Punishment is coming for you. Betraying them in any sort of way results in death.
- The Shepherds are our enemies. Being friends with them is seen as betrayal.
- Any dog seen on the territory is to be chased off or killed unless they pay up for their intrusion with food. If they seem strong, bring them back to the joint to get em' to join- by force if you need to.
I'll probably think of a few more - but these are the only ones that come to mind right now. And ah, okay, great, that makes me feel much better!

Oh, go ahead and take the King, by all means! I'd love to see the character you come up with. c: Grunts and The Street Rats are keepers, then~
Oh, I never told you my thoughts on the winner of the survival game. Yes, I think the winner should have a right to mark the loser with a scar and showcasing their win.
Actually, when I thought of the name 'Nighthowlers' I wondered if they'd howl to announce their presence on another territory. And not just any howl; maybe some kind of sound that makes you want to run, and fast. Yeah, I love that idea!
Ah, yes, the codes look good. We can elaborate on them later, but those are a keeper! <3 I may try and make some of my own, if I can think of any along the way.

Sneaking on mobile real quick! But okay, great! But ohhhh I like that idea! I think we're good on customs and such for now unless we come up with more later. So for The shepherds should it just be the regular 'leader, second in command, and then the members'? And then they don't really have a sort of code or customs but more like a motto they follow?

Alright, we're good!
Yeah, the ranks for The Shepherds should be simplistic. I think those three are good.
For the motto...hm. Maybe something like this? And unless by "motto" you mean like a password, I just came up with this: "The outside world is a cruel place. But we Shepherds will shelter you. Care for you. Protect you."
This sounds a bit too...er, sappy. But if you have a better variant, feel free to share it.

Ah, good. I'm glad you like it! :'D
I've got some ideas for the overall city, territories, and ranks. Maybe these can be official.
In my eyes, this RP takes place in NYC near the Atlantic coastline, but if you don't want that idea, then maybe it can take place in a city very similar to NY.
TERRITORY
Central Park The 'park' is really nothing but a wide open, grassy space that seems to stretch for miles. Trees, flowers, benches, and buildings surround the park as a whole. Humans can be seen here, especially in the afternoons, but nonetheless it is still a very nice place to visit.
The Boulevard Restaurants and food trucks are found on this street. The dogs strategically steal food from them whenever the chance they can get.
Cul-de-Sac Housedogs can be found living here. It's a quiet neighborhood, but not too far away from the city. Not many strays or gang members go here.
Abandoned Building An old graffiti-clad building in an area in-between the two gang territories. Most confrontations occur here.
Alleyway A certain graffiti-clad alleyway near the sewer tunnels. Watch out for malicious strays and alley dogs.
The Coast All dogs live near edge of the state, close to the coast. A mile long trip leads to a large, sandy beach with an ocean - the Atlantic to be exact - that stretches for miles.
Shepherds' Territory This merciful group of dogs occupy a large abandoned space in the back of a huge alleyway, near a small junkyard. The giant dumpster areas are used for meetings. A chain-link fence can be found nearby, towering above a small building and giving the dogs a good view of the city skyline below.
Nighthowlers' Territory Home to the largest dog organization in the city. This gang of malicious dogs have occupied many alleyways as their own, but their main locus is a giant junkyard close to a large, abandoned warehouse.
NIGHTHOWLERS INFORMATION
"Oi! What are you doing here on my turf? I hope you have a good reason for doing that, 'cause if not, then I'll give you one. I, King _______, am your ruler from now on. You object? Well, frankly, I don't care. Now get inside before I personally tear you apart."
- The King is the vicious, feared leader of the gang. They carry out duties and ceremonies, and are very respected among the Elites. Their word is law and all their orders must be followed.
- The Elites are professional fighters trained in the arts of battle. Just as fearsome as the King, they serve as the strong council of the gang, being second in power. They aren't necessarily deputies, but they do serve as a "right hand" to the King, who respects them.
- The Goons are lower in rank; somewhat of a normal middle class. They're not looked down on as peasants, but definitely not looked up to either. Upon joining, a dog must undergo a number of harsh tests in order to be called an "official" member.
- The Street Rats contain the weakest dogs of the gang. They are the punching bags of the group who have proven themselves unworthy of the King and fall under this category, serving only for the higher-ups' needs and amusement. They must obey every command given to them, lest harsh punishment occur.
SHEPHERDS RANK INFORMATION
"Oh, hello. I'm _______, leader of the Shepherds. You look scared; are you lost? Don't worry, you'll be safe here. And trust me - you do not want the Nighthowlers to catch you on their land. Come on inside; watch your paws!"
- The Leader is, simply, the dog who rules over the group. Unlike the Nighthowlers, they are more benevolent, although their rules aren't too laidback.
- The Commander, much like a general, serves as the adviser to the Shepherds. They will take control over their dogs after the current leader is gone. They have the secondmost power in the group, aiding the leader rule, helping out the members, and instructing orders.
- The Shepherds refer to both members of the group as well as the group itself. All Shepherds treat one another as family, performing under the leader and sticking up for one another.
|

|
Post by Mᴏᴏɴ - - on Nov 30, 2016 16:14:48 GMT -5
I forgot to add...the Shepherds also have a series of underground tunnels they use as both escape routes and as part of their everyday lives. Most dogs already know the tunnels like they know their own minds, so it is not easy to get lost. However, younger dogs may need an escort if they ever are to go down there.

Ohhh, that's all perfect! <3 Agh, you're great at this, Harv! <3 <3 I might add a bit more detail as to where they live and include that The Nighthowlers own most of the city where the really good spots are for trash cans and stuff and that the shepherds themselves don't really own any territory - they just defend the parts of the city that the nighthowlers don't own. I may also include some details on their camps they have and such. Such just to make sure we're on the same page and such! The Nighthowlers live in the abandoned warehouse of some kind, right? Perhaps it's within a junkyard, or would that be 'too much'? And the shepherds live in a smaller, much more broken down building at the end of an alley way? Do the dogs mostly sleep/live in that alleyway with the building mostly being used just to view the city { like it can perhaps be used as a 'ladder' of some kind to a roof top for viewing?} Or do they live in the broken down little building? Perhaps the little building is even half sunken in by the sink hole that leads to the tunnels that only they know about? At night, the dogs could retreat into those said tunnels to sleep, but for the most part, their day is spent in the alley way/over the city? Sorry for throwing all this at you!
I plan to try and create a map of some sort to help with picturing placement and such, and when I eventually get my tablet back from my sister, create a very ugly drawing of what the two camps look like.

Aw, thank you so much. <33 Ah, and you can call me Moon if you like~ My UN is gonna start changing all over the place, hehe. cx
Feel free to add onto what I have!
Hm...yep, that's about right. The Nighthowlers could actually live in the warehouse, with the large junkyard kind of being their main area of daily life. They could possibly be interchangeable?
As for the Shepherds, yes, they live both in the broken down building and the neighboring alleyway, with the sink hole being somewhere secluded in the building. The building - if it has an upstairs - could also provide a panoramic view of the city that can be seen from the top window. The tunnels can be used as sleeping quarters; that's a great idea.
Oh, good. I'm very visual, so a map would be great, no matter how messy. ^^

Oh, okie! Idk 'Harv' was the first thing that came to mind so I was like 'yo ok coolio' but moon it is. ^^
Okay! Hm...perhaps the Street Rats aren't allowed to sleep in the warehouse, so they instead sleep out in the junkyard? But great! I'll probably gather on up what we decided then and add it to the territory parts and such! Lets see...did I have any ideas for territory...hmm...
I think I did! I'll probably write them down/write the finalized territory out and then post it and see what you think! I'll probably add a few more areas such as danger zones and such and then maybe instead of being broad term with the alley way streets, perhaps give the few important/relevant ones names and a few differing traits? Or should we perhaps just leave it vague?
Oh! I also meant to ask, but could you also perhaps make a few graphics, such as banner and perhaps dividers and headers? If not, be it you're too busy or simply just don't want to do it { as I see requests are closed } then please do tell! I can possibly whip up something myself/ask somewhere else! <3

A few places I thought of!
The Abandoned Subway - After a cave in caused by a sudden small earthquake that happened years ago, this subway was closed down and unusable. It's rather old, and due to this and the earthquake, has caved in on both parts of the tunnel, with fallen chunks of concrete and rock making in impassible. The station itself isn't too horrible, despite being a bit collapsed in as well. This place serves s a main meeting and relaxation place for strays. They come here to exchange knowledge and rumors or simply to relax. The Nighthowlers occasionally show up, some to really just relax while others to stir up trouble and mess with the strays. However, it is enforced by The Shepherds that this area is not able to be claimed by the gang. Occasionally, a meeting for all strays will be called {even the gang}, be it when all stray lives are in grave danger {such as dog catchers becoming more frequent} or when the Nighthowlers want to announce a territory they've claimed.
The Broken Fountain - Within the more 'abandoned' area of the city lies a large, round and once grand fountain. Despite the pipes still flowing clean water into it, they're broken, causing water to always overflow from it and flow around the fountain in large puddles. The Broken Fountain is another 'neutral' area, however, peace is strictly enforced here due to the fact that it is an important place for all dogs. Despite this, the Nighthowlers will still try and act as if they own the place, such as by bullying the dogs into drinking from the dirtied, watery puddles that form around the overflowing fountain and they themselves being the only one to drink from the actual fountain.
The Docks - Down by The Coast, there is a large dock where fishermen often come and go as boats depart. Strays sometimes come here in hopes of snagging a fish or two from the Fishermen or try their luck at begging. It's a dangerous job, but, that's the life of a stray.
The Fancy Paws - The Fancy Paws refers to a restaurant where dogs are allowed...Well, pet dogs that is. Stray dogs are strictly driven out. Either way, as long as they're well behaved and collared, the dogs are allowed to relax as they enjoy their own meal and converse with other pets.
Haven - 'Haven' refers to an old, no longer used shop that used to be a common place for strays but was overtaken by the nighthowlers. It was a sanctuary due to the fact that its garbage seems to always be full of actually edible things due to it being closer to the Central Park alongside the fact that some people even leave things for strays to eat within it. It wasn't much, but it was at least something that helped the stays keep going. It used to be a neutral area, but the current king of the gang took it by force. This crippled the stray society in losing a valuable food source place. However, the gang is EXTREMELY protective of this place - trying to steal from it is usually guaranteed to be attacked.

Don't worry about it, Sky. I've been feeling somewhat...unmotivated and - I'll admit it - lazy at the moment, so forgive me if I'm not online as much.
That's a good idea. I think the higher ranking dogs should get the shelter and "luxury" of the warehouse. whereas, the Street Rats are forced to spend their nights outside in the junkyard.
I love those little landmarks you have! We can put those in the final version. Hm, yes! I think you should add on/broaden the danger zones and such. And...yeah, I think the vague "alleyways" and "boulevard" shouldn't have such indistinct titles, haha.
I'd be happy to make graphics for you. But headers take me much too long to do, so I think I can only make a banner and dividers. ;u; But, yes, I can do that!
