Halfear panted heavily as he spoke, " H-He's by the cr-creek in Snake Branch. I'm not sure. It was black and and long" His voice was fragile from the sprint back to fetch Mudfeather.

Blackepelt started the limp back toward camp. His body felt as though it was on fire. His back leg pulsed with angry pain as it bit into him. His body screamed at him to stop, but his heart pulled him forward in hopes of see him Mudfeather. Oh , his beautiful Mudfeather, he had to ask her to be his mate but he was scared. His vison blurred as he looked around to see he had made it only half way back.

Within a few heart beats, his legs went limp and he face planted into the dirty and leafs of the forest floor. He world around him spun in circles around him. His eyes half closed he laid there. Hoping. Praying to StarClan he would get to see Mudfeather.

Black and long. That description placed some hope inside of Mudfeather. Usually the deadly snakes of these parts were not black. Black snakes included rat snakes and king snakes... Though king snakes usually didn't bite, so Mudfeather was assuming Blackpelt had been bitten by a rat snake. Her assumption could be wrong, though. Perhaps Halfear had only thought the snake to be long and black. Maybe he had been so shocked that he had gotten the description wrong, but Mudfeather wasn't about to doubt the tomcat now. All she knew was that Blackpelt, her dear Blackpelt, had been bitten by a potentially deadly animal.

So without any other questions she ran off to Snake Branch.

Before she even made it halfway to the branch she almost quite literally ran into the all too familiar black pelt of, well, Blackpelt. "Blackpelt!" The she-cat gasped, fear riddling every inch of her voice. She halted her steps and leaned down to nudge the tomcat, hoping, praying, that he was alright, that he was okay. He had fallen on his way back to camp... Was she too late already, or was she just in time? No matter, she had to help him. She had to save him. Mudfeather couldn't let Blackpelt die here on her watch. Snakebites were hard to cure, but they could be. Mudfeather's own mentor had taught her a way to treat snakebites, but the healing process was long and sometimes even painful if the cat survived. No, there couldn't be an 'if' with Blackpelt. He was going to survive, Mudfeather was going to see to it.

Dropping her herbs nearby, Mudfeather prodded the tomcat with a gentle paw. Her chest tightened as she awaited a response. A movement, a word, anything... Blackpelt couldn't die on her watch. The Clan couldn't lose their deputy so soon. Mudfeather couldn't loose a cat dear to her heart so soon...

With her paws shaking in worry, she pushed forward an oddly spiked flowering herb. "I'm going to save you. StarClan can't take you from me now," she whispered to Blackpelt as she then reached down and began to chew the flowered herb with precision only a medicine cat could master.
