Scratching her paws stiffly against the rough barren dirt, Shadepaw waited impatiently for Flickerpaw to come back from the dirtplace. What's taking him so long? she wondered musingly. Should I go check on him? As soon as the thought came out, her ears burned. No, she should not go check on him. She quivered with embarrassment at the very thought. Lost in her own thoughts, she realized with a start that Flickerpaw was padding by the apprentice den. Her eyes lit up and she scampered over to join him with nervous hesitation in her eyes.

Stumblestep had thought the apprentice might agree with her - honestly, it would've been easier if he had been. This was concerning his training...and the last thing she wanted to do was have him fall behind in it. The embarrassment...the jealousy...the anger of not being able to become a warrior with the rest of your fellow apprentices - it was something she didn't want him to go through. However, seeing him stare up at her with those teary, miserable eyes made her flinch, her ears flattening slightly. "It's not something you can help with, why can't you-" Her voice trailed off, as if she had suddenly grown tired. Physically - yes, she was tired. Honestly, she wanted to just curl up right there and take a nap. It was pretty sunny here too so it felt nice - but anyways she didn't want to argue with him. "I'm just...disappointed." She muttered softly, shaking her head and gazing at him. It was silent as the two cats simply stared at one another. It was...almost awkward, as a rare, serious moment occurred between the pair., and eventually, Stumblestep sighed.
"If anything, you've certainly picked up on your mentor's stubbornness." Her voice was laced with her usual playfulness, but, she soon shook her head. "Are you sure this is what you want? This is your life, not mine - if you think you'll hurt my feelings, it's fine. I'll still come in and shout in your ear to wake up to eat something before training, even if I'm not your mentor." Once again, her voice held slightly amusement in it, but took on a serious note as her light green eyes stared into his own. Sharpthistle nodded slightly at Flintfang's words in silent agreement. More so because he didn't feel like dealing with a mouse-brained rogue rather than for safety reasons. Honestly, it just felt tedious to him. Could cats not smell borders or something? But, as they continued to pad along and replenish said borders, the tom paused, breathing in once more. Yep, that was definitely an outside cat scent. Was it close? And how fresh? It was hard to tell now due to the many other scents of the forest and the whiff of a squirrel not far off. "One moment. I need to test a possible theory," the tom spoke, hs head moving closer to the ground as he began to breathe in deeply. "Now if I follow the lengths from there...and tun a rabbit's leap angle here...and then considering the wind's duration and speed..." His jumble of words were almost impossible to decipher. Finally. "This way! Hurry!" He partially snapped as his long, spider-like legs moved quickly forward. Eventually, he paused, breathing in deeply. "Someone ate prey here - it's much too fresh and potent. And unless we have some code breakers within the clan, then it has to be that rogue." As if Starclan were trying to help them themselves, a sudden change in wind and the scent of an unfamiliar cat grew all too strong. That means it had to be close.

Sorrelpaw w/ Stumblestep - Flintfang w/ Sharpthistle & Acornfall -
Blossompaw w/ Swiftstar SORRELPAW Guilt stabbed through Sorrelpaw like a dagger, but it was immediately replaced by determination. He may have looked slightly angry or serious, but there was no anger in his gaze, only a firm resolution. "I'm sorry," he said, apologizing for his bothersome, and possibly tedious coming words. "I understand that this about is my life, not yours. But I mean what I've said, and yes, this is what I want." He stared her right in the face, even standing on his toes to seem taller. "I'll continue to be your student; I'm not even going to request a mentor change. And even if I can't help you, I can still learn nevertheless. I'm sorry, but nothing can or will deter me from learning - especially not such a determined cat like you. Especially not when you're the one who got me this far in life. And my life wouldn't be the same without your perseverance." He immediately backed off before he got carried away with his speech, and before said speech became too foolhardy. But what he said was true. Even if Stumblestep couldn't always train him the way she wanted to, he didn't want to break their tight bond. Even if she acted like she was his teacher, it just...it just wouldn't feel the same to him. Yes, training with a cat who had a unusable limb, would slow down his training by...quite a concerning amount. And getting a new mentor would be the wiser choice.
He'd be the only cat left behind in the den. He'd be the youngest warrior in the group. But he didn't care for the shame he'd receive. Besides, even if Stumblestep couldn't train him, he had other cats who he knew wouldn't object to buying a bit of time to train him instead; alternatively, he could teach himself. But even with this decision, he was steadfast in his words.
And that bold glow in his bright green eyes told her that he wasn't changing his mind anytime soon.
BLOSSOMPAW Blossompaw said nothing but an "Okay,", - which sounded more like a hiss in tone. Cold blue eyes were glaring at Swiftstar as she walked over to the trashed area, stepping over a small, overturned log. Here it was much more confined, the ground was littered with reeking soil - so it was impossible not to get covered in it, and sharp twigs that jutted out from the trees could be all around.
Blossompaw was not escaping this, not even by the sleek hairs of her pelt.
Forcing out an audible puff of air from her nostrils, the Japanese bobtail backed away from her mentor and crouched. Let's just get this done and over with.
FLINTFANG Blinking against the sudden breeze, Flintfang stretched his neck, sniffing around. His eyes narrowed in suspicion, brow furrowed. The scent was, in fact much stronger here, seeming to veer to the dextral position along with the wind. "Hm. The wind is locomoting the fetor to the left, so perhaps we should investigate around this bend. If my computation is correct, the rogue - or rogues, should I say - could possibly be there." Not that Flintfang was attempting to seem high-handed by saying the lengthy sentences; he could make his own calculations. Now, if they were accurate or not, that was to be seen, but he was certain that something dangerous lurked nearby.
OOC ;; ( Aghh, the Stumblestep & Sorrelpaw moments are actually really sad. Sorrel is freaking determined, though. ;-; )
( Also, Flint's being such a wiseguy, even if he thinks he's not. X'D )

Acornfall followed Flintfang and Sharpthistle without question, his whiskers twitching with irritation that he didn't let out in any other way. Fine; they wanted to go hunt a rogue, so be it. He didn't really feel the need to pay attention to the long words and calculating sentences that the other two toms used, he just flicked an ear in the direction that he judged the rogue, or rogues, to be, and stalked off without waiting for the others. They wanted to start this chase, then he would play along so that he could get to hunting faster. He didn't want to really disrespect them by just leaving, but he figured that if they were making the same judgement as he was (which they were, he just didn't use the same terms for it. He just smelled the rogue scent, and followed it), then they would follow. Besides: if he was correct, there was fresh EchoClan scent below that of the rogue, which would hint at there maybe being one of their other warriors already there. Maybe he could sneak off if there was already another warrior dealing with the situation. That was always the easiest approach. Unfortunately, a small voice in the back of his head told him that he'd have to get involved in one way or another at some point, even if it didn't involve express fighting.

Stumblestep blinked slightly, staring at her apprentice as his spoke, eyes wide. It was clear she hadn't expected him to give such a speech. She often forgot just how...well, Sorrelpaw was. He was definitely one in a kind, that was for sure - but...in a good way, a way that made her feel proud in calling him her apprentice. For a moment, she wore a complicated expression, as if really thinking it through. Finally, she let out a sigh and groan. "How can I say no when you're partially glarin' at me like that?" She complained. But, there was an unmistakable purr in her voice. She pressed her nose to his in an affectionate motion. "Fine, fine. You'll stay as my apprentice and I your mentor." She said with a nod, letting out a small breath. She wasn't sure how this would go - at all. She still had her doubts swirling in her stomach like fearsome butterflies. But...seeing her own apprentice's determination helped fuel her own. From the warmth and perhaps happiness the she-cat was radiating, she didn't need words nor give him a speech to describe how she felt - that was definitely Stumblestep for you. "Now, lets hurry back to camp. My stomach feels like it's going to eat itself and I'm also considering just becoming a three legged cat." Her voice was filled with amusement as her muzzle wrinkled into a smile as the she-cat began to hobble along, just as happy as could be. Despite how happy-go-lucky she acted, it was hard to really read the she-cat, as she acted as though nothing had just happened. "You think the fresh kill pile will have a squirrel? I'm really craving a squirrel right now....Yep, Imma get that squirrel." She licked her lips slightly. "Yes, yes, that definitely makes sense," Sharpthistle mused, nodding, He was mildly surprised at the other tom's understanding of his words - most cats just ignored him or didn't listen at all. And that made sense - most of the cats were like mice in comparison to his comprehension of the world and his intelligence. But perhaps Flintfang could be somewhat of his equal - if only slightly. Perhaps he could even carry out a few conversations with him that were of the utmost importance...and yet no other cat could seem to understand. This pleased the Siamese tom cat greatly. "of course we should take into consideration the possibility and its theory...the wind could have shifted and thus the scent could've traveled from a -" His words were cut off when Acornfall had suddenly just...left. His fur bristled slightly. "How rude!" He hissed with a huff. "Ungrateful, mouse-brained furball. Couldn't he wait at least one second while the smart ones were talking," he hissed under his breath, but had otherwise turned and followed on after Acornfall. "He better be right about where he's heading, otherwise I'll give him an earful of the importance of listening and waiting." He partially hissed to himself.
{ ikr? sorrelpaw is so cute and determined. stumble just wants him to be the best. <3 xD Flintfang just went up 10 points on Sharpthistle's 'I don't hate you as much as the others' meter. Also Harv, I hate to bother you imsosorry, but could you possibly check your PM's? Thank you! }

Swiftstar avoided the apprentice's eyes until she had crouched, ready to spring. "This time, I'll attack you. You'll be on defense." Or, if you somehow manage to switch it around, I'll be on defense. She ears twitched as she looked straight at the apprentice, narrowed her eyes, and then aimed towards Blossompaw's paws only to roll over to the right side and unbalance the calico.
Flickerpaw buried his muzzle into his paws, closing his eyes. Hearing the soft patter of pawsteps, the apprentice looked up. Shadepaw! He let out a small purr, only to slap his tail over his mouth and then look away as if he didn't want to see the silver she-cat. "Uhh... hi," he mumbled as Shadepaw entered the den. I don't know what to say! I wish I could just disappear... or... or go back in time and change everything.

Cynthia | 19 Moons | Echo Forest | AfternoonCynthia's paws ached as she traveled around the forest. Her ears swiveled around listening for any sign of life. She only groaned when she was greeted by silence and the cold earth beneath her paws. Her body ached wanting to rest, Cynthia on the other paw wanted to reach somewhere with light and a little bit of warmth. As she kept moving her legs kept bothering her as pain kept shooting up into her muscles. She wanted to lie down, but couldn't find any place to do so. The dark brown tabby's stomach began to rumble reminding her that she hasn't eaten in days, once she sighed. "I can't be bothered by little things, otherwise I'll get no where," she told herself. She kept moving until she smelled scents of what she believed was squirrel maybe even a mouse. Even the sound of eating live vermin didn't sit well with her, she much did enjoy the taste of her food that her owners gave her. Although all that was gone, she is in the wilderness she cannot be picky with food anymore, she has to take what has been given to her. And right now whatever that smell was she wanted it.

Didn't reply sorry ) Daryl frowned as he scented a cat nearby him. The rouge stretched and said,"Come out clan cat, I won't be a harm to you." Daryl frowned for a while and knew this was a clan cat that Merle was always babbling about to him. Hailsong narrowed his eyes. He didn't want to obey this... this rogue cat. However, he wasn't doing any harm so... not yet, but this cat might. Perhaps I'll just leave him alone. Alone until a patrol really finds it's scent on our territory. Without really thinking about his next step, Hailsong stepped forward, revealing the dark brown tom. I was right, he let out a small sigh of relief. It was only one cat.

Shadepaw slid over to the den opening, and saw Flickerpaw sitting there. He glanced briefly at her, then looked away. "Hi," she meowed back softly. She studied him critically. Many people called his unusual coloring odd, and she herself knew he called himself 'weird', but Shadepaw didn't think as him like that at all. She thought he was very unique, although she'd really never had the courage to admit it herself. Back on track! She ordered herself severely. "Umm... so... what would be a nice pick for fresh-kill?" Since both outr mentors are never going to train us! She waited for his answer.

❈ -- Daryl, Hailsong "Oh er... hi." Can you please move further into your territory? I mean, away from ours? Hailsong hoped his face didn't show how annoyed he was. If it did, the tom had immediately changed it to a straight face. It seemed wrong to ask the tom to leave, yet he couldn't think of anything else to say. Better let him speak than for me to go on, he guessed.
Shadepaw, Flickerpaw Flickerpaw glanced at her shyly and then felt stupid. "Uhh... umm... rabbit? Oh, no. I usually like vole. Juicy voles." Shut up! he yelled mentally. Stop being such as mouse-brain! His face blushed in wild embarrassment as he flattened his ear and looked at his paws. "You know, maybe we could just settle with a mouse," he mumbled. That's not on my mind. Can we just stop acting so awkward around each other? Just spit it out. Perhaps I should first... no. I'll do it tonight.

Thistlebreeze tilted his head. "I suppose... it is a bit chillier than usually... more foggy, but what makes you say that?" Now, when did we start talking about leaf-bare? I thought it was about your leg. Maybe she doesn't like talking about it... makes sense. Doesn't want to seem weak. Silverstreak seemed much happier, which comforted the tom. So she didn't hate him... at least. That was a good sign. Silverstreak paused for a brief second, cautiously turning over responses in her head. "I don't now," she started, her voice slightly hesitant. "I just have this feeling," she lied. "It's probably nothing." The silver she-cat ripped her eyes away from the warriors eyes, letting them focus on the cloudy skies above. Something about leaf-bare always seemed to unsettle her. Her sister blamed it on the chill in the air, but Silverstreak knew better. The days of leaf-bare dragged on, each more bleak than the one before. And as the delicate leaves descended from the treetops, the young warrior felt exposed, the lack of leaves too similar to the lack of her resolve. Taking a deep breath, the she-cat rose to her paws, the pain in her ankle now a distance memory, one that was overtaken by the agony of grief. "We should get going," she muttered to the tom. "I want to be back before nightfall."

But as he spoke, Applefall had wordlessly slipped away from the two tomcats, looking quite uncaring at the movement. As his tailtip disappeared around the bend, the silver Oriental felt his tail bristle. "Oh, why that apathetic little..." Sighing deeply so that his composure wouldn't get out of shape, Flintfang twitched an ear in annoyance, following beside Sharpthistle. As Flintfang turned around the bend he caught eye of a cat - one of their cats, he concluded - having a conversation with, surprise, a rogue.
As not to approach the situation with hostility, Flintfang immediately stepped forwards to take charge, although he wasn't the one leading. He felt as if this could be dealt with without the use of harsh accusations or hasty moves. But before he could talk to Hailsong, his attention switched to the dark brown tom - Daryl. Before he could leave, Flintfang called out, "You there, halt!" His voice was calm, yet laced with a firm sternness.
