~Sapphire~ - OMG I LOVE YOUR AVATAR *coughs* Anyways RIP, but thank you! ;-; I'm very flattered. I want these last chapters to feel full and deep and breath taking. Basically the best stuff you have ever read in the Curse novel. I can confirm that there has been no past leader's in the rogues complicated history that have had Snow's powers. She is the first Cursed rogue to hold a leader position, and is the most successful leader to ever grace the Valley. The rogues will fall pretty hard after she is gone.
The brief "BlizzardClan" made by the rogue leader during Jadestar's time had a more political approach to getting the rogues on equal footing with the clans. She didn't dominate her foes, and she made the mistake of only focusing on one clan out of pure revenge for their past leader, Blizzard, whom Jadestar killed. So the only parallel between Shadowface's and Jadestar's time is the fact that they both dealt with a "rogue menace".
The parallel and the comparisons have not ended, even though we will no longer see Jadestar's POV. Just keep that in mind as we go forward. (':
Ah yes, Maskkit blasting out a cave wall is a bit extreme compared to the mess that Shadowface was as an apprentice her age.
BUT, let us remember that Maskkit is in a completley different environment than Shadowface was. She is a prisoner in a camp of war hungry rogues who have destroyed her clan and are hunting down her mother. She's had to learn fairly quickly how to defend herself and use her powers for survival instead of fearing them and what they could do to others. Basically, if Shadowface had been in this situation with more stress in her life, I think her powers would have come to fruition much sooner.
Not saying that having family members die every few moons ISN'T stressful or tragic, but she was still in an orderly clan with friends and family and...well, Darkmoon. x'D
ALSO REMEMBER THE SILVER EYES WILL BE DISCUSSED IN THE NEXT CHAPTER OF DSOTM.

Thank you, I'm in awe of the person who made it! Yours looks pretty cool too! Mmmmkay. Part of me wants to see the Shadow/Jade thing as an almost exact repetition, but I guess Snow's pretty unique. Wait though - after she's gone?? Is this a hint?
When Shadow's kithood begins to look rosy, you know things are pretty bad. Poor Maskkit... Still, having the curse develop so dramatically is certainly... interesting

Mine is a piece by Apofiss on Dev Art. <3 There is a very important reason why Jade/Shadow's lives aren't an exact repetition. They both represent different views and paths that, essentially start out the same, but each makes a very crucial choice that splits them apart.
This will be made clear in the last two chapters, but Jade's "choice" was already made and we have seen the consequences of her choice. So Shadow's choice is what is left.
(Hint: It has to do with becoming a monster)
Keep that in mind for Maskkit. It is dramatic, and environment can only explain so much. (;

You've had avatars by them before, right? I love their style Becoming a monster? That sounds... intriguing o.o All these hints! I can see that waiting for chapters will only become more tense as we get closer to the end
Good luck! I've not got exams (yet) but I'm trying to apply to uni which is pretty stressful :/

This is true. I put a lot on my plate this mouth (several contests, school, and, duh, the forums as usual). But I still know that I could be writing more. ^^
Though I do make sure that the days I don't write, I focus on figuring out the next step of the plot. Last night I only got a paragraph down, but worked out where all the large events happen within the first book and when the second main character starts getting a POV.
Yah...I'll try not to beat myself up. But it's hard when I know I wrote more in the previous two Octobers. (Though, if I remember right, I wasn't in college on Fall semester in 2015. The spring before and after, yes, but for some reason I don't think I did fall in 2015... and 2016 Fall semester was a lot lighter than this one.
Though, the heavier college days are also the days I write more. o.O )

Sitting in a hallway, waiting for them to open the doors (and finish the class before mine) gives me about half an hour to an hour to write.
And I drag along a notebook on vacations.
When I have nothing else to do, I end up on here. XD

CHAPTER 34 SNEAK PEEK Eaglefrost At least thirty cats. Thirty lives…completely and utterly removed from existence. She wasn’t nearly this explosive when I last saw her…what happened? She stands in the middle of the now empty space, her chest heaving, her evergreen eyes slowly dimming as the adrenaline and fire leaves her body. She blinks rapidly, her eye-lids either heavy or the ash in them irritating her eyes. The wound on her neck that was covered in herbs only moments before is now a pale pink scar, and she no longer favors any of her limbs. I still see other scars, scars both physical and mental that are weighing her down. It’s clearer now than it’s ever been, those shadows in her fiery eyes. It’s worse, but the force opposing it is greater as well. She looks at me, her eyes haunting and empty. I lower my eyes from hers, unable to recognize the she-cat I see before me. She’s always moving further and further away from me. I move my eyes onto her daughters, their small bodies shivering, but their expressions void of shock. They have seen their mother’s power before, but clearly not on this scale. It’s like that time when she fell off the overlook…I looked exactly like that. “Go,” I say gently to them. “Go to her.” Maskkit doesn’t look at me, but Coldkit does, and she nods, nosing Maskkit forward. They quickly scamper over to Shadowface where she embraces them in an absent minded manner. She too, is in some shock over her merciless power. I slowly follow them, but I do not go up to Shadowface. Instead I walk past her, and follow the path out of the cave. A lot has happened. We both have been changed. |

Chapter 34 is coming out very fast. I already got 15 pages filled up. I just need to decide on how and where to end it.

AND ANOTHER. Chapter 34 Sneak Peek: And an Eagle Swoops in “I want an explanation. Now.” I look up at Eaglefrost, my heart hammering. Darkmoon turns away from us, flicking her tail at my three cursed companions. “Come, make yourselves at home. I’m Darkmoon…as I’m sure you know.” Nightfang grins, her ear tips twitching. “Yes…apologies for our first meeting, Darkmoon.” Darkmoon laughs, leading them towards the cave. “All is forgiven!” I look down at the ground, burying my claws into the pine needles as they leave me and Eaglefrost to ourselves. “Eaglefrost…I-” “Tempestkit died?” He asks, his voice level and calm. “How?” I swallow hard, biting down on my own tears. “A wound from a bear attack,” I say, watching the wind play with one of the needles on the forest floor. “And the others? How did they die?” I breathe in harshly, holding it there for a moment. “Eaglefrost, I can’t-” A large, warm paw falls on my shoulder. I lift my head, the tears threatening me again when I see the grief in his eyes. “Please, Shadowface,” he meows, his voice breaking. “I need to know…I need to know how.” My breath catches, and I let it go, shutting my eyes as tears fall to the earth. So I tell him. I tell him everything. |
