I never really got into roleplaying. I did a bit for a while, but it was mostly writing that I was here for.
Pointers would be good! It's mostly the generations that I'm struggling with. I'm trying to fit the family linage to the appropriate time frame without cutting juicy bits out, and it is more difficult than I anticipated. I also got halfway through creating my family tree, and then realised that incest was a thing (historically) within royal families, so I started marrying cousins to one another and now characters are now related to one another (albeit very distantly) and I've yet to decide if this changes the way they interact with one another.... I'm a mess XD

WAIT WHAT Apparently that's how Tuesday was too. She was only ever here for the writing. Weird how things turn out. x'3 Ahhh, yep. Family trees are tedious. Well, first I would arrange the actual tree before sticking plot points to it. How I did it was I listed the character name, their contribution to the story/a brief summary of their life. Then I listed their husband/wife/partner(s) and all of their children. Then the next generation began with the children, their stories and their partners and children and so on. Each generation would consist of the children of the previous generation. Ex: FIRST GENERATION Itzala Blackmore - (summary of life story here) Partner: Rush Valeros - Children: Claudia Blackmore & Macinda Blackmore SECOND GENERATION Macinda Blackmore - (history) Partner: ? - Children: N/A Claudia Blackmore - (history) You get it now right? And if you want more characters who are not related then do it by birth year. GEN ONE. BORN YEAR 265 Itzala Blackmore - (history) Partner: - Children: Nigrin Haldritch - (history) Partner: - Children: I have a whole document saved for just family ties for Clans of the Valley. If I ever get confused I just go there and look over it again to get my head on straight. x'D Now when moving to connect the family generations to your story timeline, just use what you have written for their "life summaries" and flush out the details if needed. Remember you can adjust family histories by tweaking how, when, where they died or how, when, where they were born and so on. Just leave the story timeline alone. That should be viewed as the bread while the summaries of the lives of your characters are what's keeping the bread together. (THE YUMMY STUFF). :'D You can't make a sand which without the bread, but you don't want a dry sand which either, you know? Bread is essential, but you still want it to be delicious. As for your incest problem, here is what I would do. Organize who married who and who had children with who first and then do some research about Royal Court socialization when it comes to distant relatives. I can tell you right now that most of the time people back then didn't care as much as we do about getting "involved" with their relatives. (The cousins and distant kind mostly). In fact the most notorious royal court scandals and inner wars were between relatives! SO I'd say there is a lot of potential going on for you there. |

Thanks for the tips, Shadow! I think I'm going to have to start an entirely new word document and type everything up! Hooray for procrastinating! Well, I suppose it is my lunch break...
Maybe two documents... or three... or a whole folder... I love world building, but when you're tracing family history back over 800 years, man, does it get confusing!
And of course, there needs to be a juicy scandal thrown in, every now and again! Especially when the repercussions echo through generations... Imagine your great-great-great-great-great grandparents and their siblings stuffing up so majorly that you have to deal with the consequences...

Yeah, I know. At least I'm dealing with more human-esque lifespans, so its only about 15 or so generations. That being said, of course, there are so many children, especially in the earlier generations. I don't plan on naming them all, just the major ones.
Yes, it seems our oc's suffer in similar mannerisms XD
Family tragedies are... interesting to write.
I just realised too, that incest means a greater chance of genetic abnormalities/diseases, so now I get to map that out, too!
This is a nice change from torturing some other characters, which has been my favourite pastime this week ^-^"

Well, I've always favored Spottedmoon over Shadowface because she almost has/had to face more than our main character. It has been a little time since I read Dark Side of the Moon, but I ate it up because of Spottedmoon's interactions and intricate character.
However, Shadowface is easy to relate to. Spottedmoon seems a little distant and a character that might be a little hard to fully connect to yourself or others to. Shadowface is close enough, character wise, to be looking right over your shoulder.
If I lined them up side by side (without them trying to kill each other) I'd think that they carried similarities, because of how life had shaped them, but I'd also feel that Spottedmoon needs to be explored more as a character. At this point, considering your writing style as changed and improved since writing DSotM, I probably would feel a lot closer to Spottedmoon than I do.
If you can understand this at all...^^' You said rapid fir, you get rapid fire.

Okay, so like, Shadowface is one of the best female characters to ever exist.
First off, she's far from your 'typical' she-cat. She's brash, tough, and full of powerful energy ( figuratively and literally. ). Her devotion to stopping the curse, and a desire to protect her loved ones is a great drive/motive for her. This drive is what makes her such a well-developed, round character. Secondly, her powers. Now, her power in itself, although it is a curse, has its favorable aspects. She's basically a feline pyromancer! But this curse has taken a toll on the many generations, and each cat experienced it in different ways. Seven curses, seven fires, seven lives. Thirdly, her personality. She's always wanting to know. She wants answers. Answers as to how the cure came to be, why does she have a target on her back, and most importantly, who is the cat that started that chain of tragedy. Wanting to know the truth is almost like...determination. You don't stop until you get what you want. Another thing I love is her aggressive nature. As I said before, Shadow is not a submissive little cat who needs others to save her. She's physically powerful, she fights hard, and doesn't take anyone's mess; she can rescue herself, thank you very much. A relatable character who goes outside of the norm!
As for Spottedmoon, I somehow can't remember much about her. I need to reread DSotM... ^u^"
But all I can say for Spot is that she's a bit more...intricate than Shadow. Although she's more minor, she does have her own set of trials and tribulations that she has to face.

They probably will show up when I finally post the next chapter. x'D Hmmm, well I know things have been happening with other people. Dingoleap is entering in a major competition for writing for one. I can't really think of anything else besides what I posted last night. I'm re-writing Dark Side of the Moon and will be posting it within the next month given Curse doesn't give me any trouble. As for myself I've been pretty good. I love my new college, and I've been able to see my boyfriend nearly every weekend. It's really nice to go see his family and have HOME COOKED FOOD. <33 ;-; His mom is an amazing cook. I've also been working on the human version of Curse and developing the CotV world. Shadow: Believe me when I'm saying that I am working on your birthday gift! It's very late, but life just got away from me these fast few weeks. It's nearly done! I'm just adding the finishing touches.
ALSO - I have another song recommendation for you guys! 'Revelry' by Kings of Leon. I love this song - love the whole album, really - but this song reminds me of the relationship between Eaglefrost and Shadowface, particularly after their friendship falls apart. Let me know what you think!
