Foxlight smiled and nodded. "The Ancient Larch sounds excellent," Foxlight said. She glanced towards the entrance, before looking across the camp one last time. She noticed Winterheart leaving and guessed he was going hunting, which worked out nicely for them since that meant they could focus a little more on training than hunting this patrol.
She noticed Mintpaw's uncanny silence, but didn't comment on it. She would keep an eye on the apprentice throughout the patrol and make sure that she was doing alright. She was nearly positive this was about the journey patrol, but she hoped she could cheer up the two apprentices.
"Alright, we should head out now," Foxlight said before padding towards the camp entrance.
[ Creekheart | Warrior ]
Creekheart saw Foxlight gathering the hunting patrol and for a brief moment considered joining it, but ultimately decided against it. He headed out of the camp before the patrol, and noticed Winterheart. He brightened and quickened his pace to catch up to him.
"Hey," Creekheart said. "Are you going out hunting? Mind if I join you?" |

Slightly surprised by the company, Winterheart nodded. "Sure," He mewed, dipping his head. The dark furred tom positioned himself next to Creekheart so that his left side was away from the other cat, mostly out of habit now instead of self-consciousness. The color still weirded him out; it was the only part of him that wasn't black. Aside from his blue eyes, of course. "I appreciate the company."

Creekheart smiled and nodded. "Excellent, where were you planning on going?" Creekheart asked curiously. He wasn't particularly fond of hunting, but he figured it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't on a patrol. Creekheart had always been much better at fighting than hunting, but he wasn't great at fighting either. He was usually just able to hold his own in battle, which seemed to be enough.

Cinderflight padded towards the entrance slowly, keeping in mind the plants she needed to gather. She would most likely end up heading to the southern border to find them, but she didn't mind the walk to much. |

"How about near Turtle Creek?" Winterheart suggested. He wasn't much of a hunter, but he decided that he was good enough at it. He was a much better fighter, and it showed in his muscular frame.

Thymepaw slowed down to keep pace with Mintpaw. "Hey, cheer up, maybe we'll run into a fox or something today, then we could have a more interesting patrol than the dumb journey cats," she whispered, the pale grey she cat nudging her friend gently. Of course, she didn't exactly believe this, but anything to get Mintpaw back to her normal self was worth it in Thymepaws eyes. She just wished something interesting would happen, something to spice up a boring hunting patrol. She began to pad forward, making sure she kept in pace with her fellow apprentice, watching Foxlight carefully.

Toxicheart padded into camp, a small mouse in her jaws. She dropped the mouse into the fresh kill pile. Her scent was rancid, and most cats would hate that, but she didn't care.

Creekheart nodded his head slowly, considering what Winterheart had suggested. "Sounds all the same to me," Creekheart said/ He didn't particularly care where they hunted, he knew some places were better than others, but right now the fresh kill pile was full and he needed something to keep him busy while the journey patrol left. He was worried for that group, more than he should be. The thought of investigating the smoke and finally figuring out what was happening was nice, but the ideas of what could be causing it frightened him slightly. "Wonder what they're going to find," Creekheart murmured as he glanced back to camp.

Foxlight's longer stride naturally left her a little ahead of the apprentices, and she for the most part let them converse between each other. She was kept quiet by her eyes constantly scanning the terrain around them while her ears twitched in the direction of every sound. She was always vigilant outside of the camp, especially when she was around apprentices. As they began to approach the Ancient Larch she slowed her pace slightly as to not scare off any prey.

Winterheart shrugged, the muscles on his shoulders twitching. "It masks our scent and sight as well as the prey's; two sides of the same coin." He mewed, his blue eyes straining to spot prey through the smoke. He opened his mouth, allowing scents to wash over his scent glands in hopes of finding prey. |

I was thinking for Creekheart and Winterheart's patrol they could run into a fox and they would fight it off but just barely?? that way when they return to camp there's still a sense of urgency and there would have to be more action to destroy the fox den and force it out of the territory]

Creekheart twitched his ears as he heard a soft pitter-patter. He crouched down and slowly crept into the undergrowth, his ears twitching as he listened intently. He slowly crept forward, his tail flicking as his eyes narrowed. He paused for a moment as the sound stopped. He saw the flick of a bushy tail and lunged forward, claws extended. He headed back out towards the patch triumphantly with a small squirrel. It wasn't the neatest of kills, it had heard him coming, but it was something.
[ Sharpstar | Leader ]
Sharpstar nodded as Nettlepaw answered, satisfied with her response. "Yes, it's important we stay downwind on this journey. We will be leaving our territory for a brief time, we will need the scent of the smoke to guide us then." Sharpstar continued forward, his gaze flicking back and forth. They were still in PineClan territory, but they wouldn't be for much longer.

Speckledpaw nodded. She then padded up closer to the leader. "Um.. Sharpstar, how can you tell the difference between downwind and upwind?" She asked nervously. She felt ridiculous to be asking such a question.
