okay so, last week we had agreed to foster a cat for my little sister's teacher. their daughter was developing allergies to the cat and they couldn't keep. we agreed to hold him until they found him a home.
well, we just go the cat today. the picture she showed us seemed fine, the cat looked healthy.
the cat we got is not healthy AT ALL. like oh my god, this boy is SO under weight and malnourished and im scared he might pass away during the night. just thinking about this cat is making me on the verge of tears. you can literally feel every single rib bone, back bone, and even the bones on his head. if this cat wasn't long haired he would probably look awful. the cat is seven and im just in shock they would give him to us like this after showing us a few picture with nothing wrong.
it makes me think that he has something horribly wrong with him and they just couldn't bare the thought of putting him down??? we're taking him to the vet tomorrow even though the records they gave us said he went yesterday. like why would they even let him go home with us??? ?? ??
i dont know what to do im just honestly terrified for this poor thing this is killing me i hate seeing animals like this

That poor cat. I can't see cats like that either, I can't bear it. we put him in one of our bigger bathrooms so the other cats wouldn't upset him more than he already is. we have some food, water, litterbox, and a cat bed by him but something tells me he isn't going to go for any of it.
i feel so bad for charley. im shaking

That's absolutely terrible! I would keep an eye on him. Try and hand feed him and dip your fingers in the water and let him lick them. Maybe that'll help

im just shocked the the VET would let him go like that. they took him to one yesterday before letting him go to us and im ?????? ? ?? since when would a vet EVER let a cat go like that. you can feel every single bone with ease.
i just hope he doesnt have to be put down when he take him tomorrow

Don't feed him too much at once. He will interjection and might die. Slowly give him more food each day gotcha!
hes not even making any attempts to go for the food, let alone the water, we put out for him hours ago though.

I know milk is good for starving humans Try giving him some milk or cream, maybe add a tiny bit of meat or sugar adult cats are all normally lactose intolerant so i dont think giving him milk will help much. ill look it up though.

Make the food soft and gentle on the mouth. Not to much at a time, or he might choke. May StarCLan light his path, and yours as well! oh yeah, that sounds like a good idea, ill try that right now!

Could be some form of parasite. They slowly deteriorate the host's body, stealing nutrients until the host becomes malnourished.
Taking him to the vet is your best idea. It could be that he was being fed normally but slowly stopped eating over time, either because aforementioned parasites or another internal problem causing Charley pain to eat. If he's eating soft food but not hard, it's likely exhaustion. Chewing and digesting hard food is takes too much energy in his weakened state.
He could be severely dehydrated. Pull back his lips and check his gums. Pink is healthy. Red/bright pink means either high temperature, illness, or toxicity (unless it's around the teeth line, in which case it's dental problems, which could also trigger aversion to hard food). If his gums are pale or even white, it can be a sign of severe dehydration (or bloodloss, but that's unlikely in this situation). If that's the case, the vet should be able to get him on an IV drip to get him some fluids. His gums should be slick and wet, and should return to pink immediately after applying pressure. Gums are the easiest way to tell with furred critters.

Could be, we're gonna find out tomorrow. I checked his gums and they're actually pink, so it's good that he is hydrated.
I'm gonna head off to bed, but I'll check on Charley from time to time. I'll update y'all on this status tomorrow.

Well, um, he's still alive.
I guess recently he went to hide back behind the toilet, so I don't think he had much to eat this morning.
We're going to call his old vet in a few minutes because they just opened. After that, I think we're taking him to our vet.

okay so, um, horrible update for y'all:
the cat only went to that vet once. the only shot he got was rabies, not shots for feline leukemia or any of the sort. the cat has a growth and bladder stones, and they recommended that the teacher treat him immediately with x-rays and blood work but she refused. this is a big cat but, right now, he only weighs SIX POUNDS. and the vet doesn't think he's seven, they think he's around the same age as my oldest cat, who is 15!
we can't afford to drop thousands on surgery, so the teacher has two choices:
-take the cat back
-pay for the vet bills while we treat him
he'll be put down if brought to a shelter and maybe he might just have to be put down in the end.
i cant believe she lied to us to drop this cat off on somebody else.

she better pay, i honestly dont want to give the cat back to her at all. it's obvious that she doesnt want to help the cat. part of me feels bad for her, because she was crying as she left yesterday, but part of me is still in shock jeez

maybe try and find an organization that specializes in situations like this? If the cat has FIV or FeLv I can help you find one if you're comfortable with telling me the general area but if not I understand. I'd just hate to see this cat not get the care and attention they need.
