Peter:
He recognized that look of hers. She obviously wasn't amused by his failed attempt at asking her to dance. Although, Peter didn't consider much of what he did a failure so much as a... success that just hadn't happened yet. He slowly slid his hand through his hair, letting out an laugh he hoped played off as 'cool', and then slid that hand casually into his pocket.
"Fine," he told her, shaking his head like it didn't bother him. "Yeah, yeah, that's--that's okay. We can just, you know, stand here. And... sway or something." He squinted and then lifted his eyebrows with a shrug to show her that it didn't bother him as much as it did (it shouldn't have bothered him, really. But, dancing was one of his interests. And, when you tried to share your interests with others and they just shot you down, well, it hurt. Plus, he was trying to show her he cared. When you gave someone a part of yourself, it meant you cared).
Peter cleared his throat and just began to sway back and forth anyways, moving to the beat of the music, and hoped that no one else had noticed that Gamora had turned him down.
"So, do you like our earth parties?" he asked her as means to start a conversation that didn't resolve around dancing (although, it could easily lead back to dancing, if guided that way). "Been a while since I celebrated one of these myself. You kinda forget this stuff exists when you're in space."

Percival:
"Oh I wasn't actually asking as an excuse for me to go in," said Percival with a shrug. "It really was a point of curiosity." He moved away from where he'd been standing for what felt like ages, approaching the railing, and looked over. Hum. Not as far of a drop as he thought it would be. Still very high up though. "But that isn't to say I have much desire to stay in my current location. Not for the company, you're very witty I suppose, but the view is getting old." Percival lifted himself over the railing, swinging his legs over. "Exploring seems like more fun. Test Avenger security. See if anyone decides to shoot me." And he tipped over the edge, falling the few stories without much concern. He landed on the gravel below mid-roll and got to his feet a second later, brushing his clothing off and then his hair. He glanced up at Logan, curious to see if he'd be followed.
---
Tom:
"I prefer the term tag team. We're very good at being a team and making you both tag along." Tom's eyes sparkled. He hung back, but that didn't stop him from listening in as Bucky and Steve walked away. He doubted "the raccoon" would have heard, but he had no problem catching every word (side effects were wonderful things). Oh dear. He should probably tag along so the cookies didn't die a firey death. He hurried after Bucky, Steve, and he assumed Rocket was somewhere along the same hall, but he'd lost sight of the raccoon. Behind him, he heard the conversations between Peter and Gamora and, a bit more distantly but still clear, Eveline agreeing to leave with John. Tom was careful not to completely stop in his tracks and instead gritted his teeth. Now wasn't the time ...
---
Eveline:
She didn't get up as soon as John did, and through everything he said her eyes didn't leave the fire. But her expression did slowly change. It started out in something close to surprise - being offered a dance was a bit unusual for her - but then things smoothed out a bit when she was asked the other thing. He sounded like Tom. Oh dear (a sentiment unknowingly echoed by Tom, for different reasons). "Sure," she said. The same reply she would have given Tom not too long ago. She spun away from the little corner by the fire and started walking away, glancing back at Tom as she did. The fire always seemed partly in her view. But so was the door and she held it open for Tom. "Did you have something in mind?" she asked, arching an eyebrow. "Car chase, perhaps." It was probably a joke, but it was delivered a bit flatly.

Gamora:
Gamora could tell that Peter was slightly hurt by her refusal. They were at something of a stalemate: she didn't want to dance just as much as he did. However, she supposed that this 'swaying' was a fair compromise, so she followed his example and shifted back and forth on her feet to the beat of the music, though not quite as much as he did.
"They're... interesting," Gamora replied, not quite sure how to put it other than that. She'd seen worse, but then again, she was sure each party varied with whoever was in charge. Peter seemed to enjoy it, though. Which made it all the more surprising that he'd forgotten about it while in space. Though she didn't celebrate them anymore, Gamora hadn't forgotten the holidays from her home planet. "You could've told us about them," she pointed out. "If you'd wanted to celebrate them. We just didn't know they existed until now." He hadn't mentioned them once during their four years together as Guardians. He hardly spoke about Earth at all, really. Gamora guessed that made sense, though. After what had happened with his mother, Peter's memories of his home planet weren't very fond. It had been hard enough getting him here with the Avengers in the first place.
Rocket:
Yes, 'the raccoon' did hear. Most of it. Maybe not the entire whispered part. But, honestly, he'd been cybernetically enhanced, for gosh sake, you really think they'd leave hearing out if it? They didn't. Besides, he could tell right away that he probably hadn't left the cookies in the best hands. Though it hadn't really been about the cookies, more just to get Steve and Bucky doing something, he didn't particularly want this party to end in disaster. Though, if it did, he definitely wanted to be there to see it.
So, Rocket got down from the table again and followed the others to the kitchen. When he caught up with Tom on the way, he remarked, "Might need to fetch the fire extinguisher. I don't think that Stark guy will be thrilled if they burn his base down."

Logan:
Logan rolled his eyes as Percival spoke. "You're not much company, either," he mumbled. "But... I guess I've got nothing better to do." He wasn't one of his students. He didn't go searching for trouble or adventure like he once might have. In fact, after a life of so much excitement, all he wanted sometimes was just to settle down and live in peace. Retire, perhaps. But, for someone like him, retirement was near impossible. And, he had to admit that, while he was content to stay where he was, the idea of getting out of there and actually doing something did seem to spark a thrill.
"Let's see how safe this base really is," he added to Percival's comment. And then he watched the other man tumble over the edge of the porch. Without even waiting to see if Percival had made it safely, he threw himself over the porch much less gracefully, hardly peeking at the length of the drop, and landed only a moment later to see Percival staring at him. He quickly got to his feet, and he crossed his arms, taking a step towards Percival. "A'right, kid," he told the other man, lifting an eyebrow, "where does your spectacular idea take us now?"
John:
John was a master of observation. Not just because of his powers that allowed him superhuman senses. But also because of his training in the marines. And he didn't miss the way that both Eveline and Tom had glanced at each other, the subtle way their body language had changed in their brief passing. He narrowed his eyes slightly as he led Eveline through the door to the hallway, and then when they were past the others, he stopped and turned to look at the woman he was with. "I didn't really have much in mind, but it was getting boring in there. Kind of needed an escape, so thanks. But--" And now he tilted his head, curious, "--but before we even decide what to do, I've got to know: what's going on between the two of you? You got history or something?" His eyes moved slightly in the direction that they'd come from, an attempt to motion towards Tom.
Peter:
Peter tried to hide his surprise when Gamora had started to sway along with him. Although he'd asked in hopes that she would, he doubted she would actually do as he wanted. And he knew that if she saw he was satisfied, she'd quickly stop. So he tried to keep his smile hidden. And it wasn't hard once she started talking about the holidays. In fact, it was very hard not to frown at the memories that now found his mind.
"I like holidays," Peter spoke slowly, looking down at their feet on the parlor floor turned dance floor. "But, you know, when I left Earth, the holidays were the last thing I was thinking of. And... I guess they just didn't seem as important anymore. I became Starlord, legendary outlaw; I wasn't a kid who awaited each holiday anymore. And... the time moves so different when you're not on Earth. I doubt Yondu would have wanted to celebrate Christmas or something. They hated humans, and they didn't need another reminder that I was one."
"I--I liked them," Peter continued, finally lifting his eyes to meet hers, "Loved them. But I didn't miss them. There were plenty of other things to miss."
Steve & Bucky:
They waited until the other two were in the room, and then Bucky began to open the package of cookie dough that Rocket had found. But before Bucky had even ripped a slit in the plastic, Steve, who had been watching his friend, took the package from his hands, much to Bucky's dismay, and flipped the package over to see the instructions. "I think as long as we keep Bucky away from the oven, we'll be fine without the fire extinguisher," Steve told Rocket, hearing the end of his conversation with Tom. "But, maybe you're right about having it just in case." With Bucky's history with Tony, burning cookies could be just the excuse his friend needed to burn the whole base to the ground just to spite the man who'd tried to kill him.
"Anyways, it really shouldn't be that hard," Steve said, looking over the instructions. "The cookie dough is already made, so we just have to get a cookie tray, plop the cookie dough onto the tray, and then put it in the oven." Simple. And here was the man in charge, again. This sense of order was something he needed, something to keep him grounded. He turned his eyes to the oven, then to Tom. "Tom, could you turn the oven to 350 degrees? And, Rocket, could you find a cookie tray?" His eyes slid to the raccoon. Although, how sanitary is was to cook with an animal, he wasn't sure. He just figured he'd keep that comment to himself.
"What about me?" Bucky asked, crossing his arms, ever the man looking to follow Steve's command. "What do you have for me?"
"Just wait," Steve told his friend, grinning. "We're not there yet."

Tom:
A fire extinguisher sounded like a good idea to Tom. He wasn't completely sure where to find one, but after a bit of poking around on the way to the kitchen, it wasn't too hard to find. Tom pulled it out and set it in a nearby location, though truthfully he wasn't too worried. He'd seen worse than a small kitchen fire. He leaned forward a little and watched as Bucky and Steve seemed to take up most of the room. Even Rocket took up a lot of room, actually being told to do something. Tom waited by the door, curious if Rocket was actually going to follow through. Tom didn't both to suggest he pitch in. If Steve wanted him to do something, he would. Tom still winked at Buck, amused that the man looked incredulous about what was going on. He was sure Bucky would get something to do soon enough.
-
Evelina:
Evelina arched an eyebrow, but didn't say anything for a bit. Then she said slowly. "We used to be together. Things ... happened. We're not together anymore. There isn't much more to it." There was a lot more to it, but John didn't need to know that. No one needed to know that. There were a lot of things which were going on and John didn't need to be dragged into it. "Is there any place here where you'd like to go?" she asked instead, voice quiet.
-
Percival:
Snorting, Percival shrugged. "You assume I had a plan?" But he still seemed to be moving purposefully down the tarmac and then grass, glancing back at Logan every now and again. "Anyway, it's easier being away from people. There are things that are more interesting out here. I wouldn't say the base is the safest place. After all, it did invite you in." He waved a hand at Logan. "Under that logic, I almost assume that there's always a possibility for fighting. How well do you know the others anyway? Other than by reputation and occasionally sharing the same side in a fight. I, Evelina, and Tom ... well, I'm sure there isn't much reason to expect much from humans. They probably aren't a threat." Percival shrugged, looking in the direction he was walking in. "But a spectacular idea? I just need to be moving. Did you have an idea?"

Gamora:
'There were plenty of other things to miss.' Gamora had to admit it, Peter had a point. With other things regarding Earth more prominent in his memories, like his mother, it made sense that he didn't want to talk about Earth much. Really, none of the other members of the Guardians often mentioned their pasts either. Considering that most of them had met each other and teamed up in a prison, it could be assumed none of them had started out the best. The fact that they rarely openly recounted how they'd gotten there was a sign of trust, believe it or not, accepting each other regardless of not knowing.
Still, though it wasn't easy, Gamora could open up about her homeworld occasionally. Like on the topic of holidays. After her few moments of silence, she said, "My home had a holiday too. We'd celebrate the harvest on the longest day of the year." Though she didn't make it a habit to do so, she could still remember it clearly. The festivals in the wide city streets. The delicate lanterns in the temples. The dancing. Looking back on it now, maybe that was partly why Gamora didn't like dancing very much. It unconsciously reminded her of home.
"By the time I... left... there wasn't much to celebrate anymore." With each passing festival, the harvest grew smaller, and extravagance fizzled out and died to be replaced with starvation and poverty. Thanos would say it was the wasting surrounding it that brought the holiday's downfall. Gamora disagreed. At least they were still happy to be alive before he came and took that too.
Gamora shook her head and let the memories fade away again. "So, you're right," she told Peter. "There are other things to miss." Like, for instance, her mother. Gamora would never forget her smile and her safe, gentle arms. She agreed with Peter that losing their mothers was worse than losing a holiday.
Rocket:
Rocket wasn't surprised by how quickly Steve had taken charge of the whole cookie business. That was his reputation around here, being the leader, and ever since Rocket had met him, he'd certainly given off Captain-like vibes. Imagine if Quill was like that, he'd noted with amusement on that first day. If the self-proclaimed captain of the Benetar actually acted like one, the Guardians might be more like a team a less like a ragtag gang of morons. Not that he was complaining, of course. He wouldn't take orders from Quill either way.
Rocket didn't like taking orders at all, really, so when he was given the task of tray-finder, he wasn't exactly thrilled. Mainly because he wasn't a baker—he made bombs, not cookies—so he had no idea where the trays were kept in this kitchen. What was he supposed to do, check every single cabinet beneath the counter until he found one?
Apparently so. After giving up with a couple mutters about cluttered kitchens underneath his breath, Rocket went down the row and peeked inside every cabinet door until he discovered the stash of metal trays. He chose a medium-sized one, carried it over to the oven, and set it on top of the counter. "There. One cookie tray. You happy?"
He'd already gotten Steve and Bucky involved in the party, as he'd been asked. He was really doing this for a hopefully decent snack.

Bucky & Steve:
While Rocket went about finding a cookie tray (mumbling all the way, of course), Bucky watched Tom disappear. He narrowed his eyes, suspicious, and when he saw the fire extinguisher that the man had brought back, his eyes narrowed even further so much so that one eye began to twitch. "Never can be too careful," he muttered under his breath with a roll of those too-narrowed eyes. And then he said more clearly, "But I'm done with all that. Besides, I was never much of a pyro guy. Arson isn't my thing."
Steve was watching Tom, Rocket, and Bucky out of the corners of his eyes. He thanked Rocket for the cookie tray, and then his eyes moved on over to Tom. Tom had obviously been successful in getting a fire extinguisher, but the oven still hadn't been turned on like he'd asked. He had to admit to himself that he was slightly annoyed, but it was such a simple task, he had no problem doing it himself. He quickly turned on the oven without a word and set it to 350 degrees. Then he handed the package of cookies back to Bucky. "Scissors," he told his friend. "Cut the top and then you and Tom can put the cookie dough on the trays."
Bucky didn't really want to work with Tom, but he nodded and found a pair of scissors hanging from a hook on the wall. He cut the package open and then put it on the counter so that they could line the tray with cookies. "Make sure they're spaced out, Buck," Steve told his friend, as Bucky began to place them on the tray.
John:
John let out a 'hmmft', and then they walked in silence to nowhere in particular for a few steps. Finally, he said, "I guess it really isn't any of my business, but I am curious. I mean, we're all staying in this base for the time being, and I don't even know anything about half the people here. It doesn't exactly make it easy to trust anyone." Not that he trusted much, anyways. But if they were all going to be living together, he wanted to know a little bit about the people so that he didn't have to sleep with one eye open. Or, rather, not sleep at all. But, that was a given. He already had trouble sleeping because of the memories that kept him up. Not because he was scared he'd get killed in his sleep. Not... not that he could get killed, considering his skin was pretty much bullet-proof. Right, anyways... John let out a breath, and said, voice low, "Just tell me this, Eveline: is he dangerous?" As to where they should go, he had no idea, and he didn't particularly care where, as long as it was more interesting than the party. Maybe there was some type of training grounds around there. That would be fun. He needed to punch something.
Logan:
Logan rolled his eyes, walking up beside the other man. "I suppose it doesn't surprise me that you don't," he said. And maybe it didn't surprise him because it reminded him a little bit about himself. Sometimes it took too long to come up with a plan, and while the X-Men always had a plan and he'd listened to them, if he was on his own, he often just acted. He didn't stop to think about what he was doing or what the consequences of his actions would be. Logan let out a gruff laugh. "What do you know about me, anyways?" Because, yeah, he wasn't exactly a 'safe' person, but he was far better to have on your side than against, and, while his methods weren't exactly the greatest, he was always on the right side. That's why he was there, regardless of 'safe'. "I don't know anyone here," he told Percival. "Not really. I've been with the Avengers for a bit now, but I don't really know them. I'm an X-Men, not an Avenger." He narrowed his eyes, watching the back of Percival's head. He had no spectacular idea, either. His only agenda, at the moment, was to figure out just who Percival was. "What are you?" he asked again. "Not an Avenger. Not an X-Men..."
Peter:
Peter was quiet as he listened to Gamora speak, and he hardly even noticed when he stopped swaying to the music and stood completely still, watching her. There was a great sadness that bathed both of them as memories of their pasts surrounded them. But Peter wasn't very good at being sympathetic. Humor was a way that he stayed away from all that emotional stuff. So, while he felt the pain in his heart and the tears tugging at the back of his eyes, he did not cry and he didn't say much other than, "Thank you." Gamora hardly shared about her past, and the fact that she did so now meant a lot more to him than anything because it meant that she trusted him with her memories. So, he hoped she understood what his thanks meant: thank you for sharing; I'm sorry for what you went through; you aren't alone.

Gamora:
When Peter thanked her, Gamora understood, and in response, she gave him a small smile and nod of acknowledgement. Memories were a part of who they were, and sharing them was just as much a sign of trust as accepting each other regardless of not knowing all the details. And there was no team, no friendship, without trust.
Now, though, she'd left her past behind and moved on to the next stage of her life: one with the Guardians and without Thanos. Also, currently and to some extent, the Avengers. Other humans like Peter. Which came with human holidays and their parties. And, though Gamora was still learning and certainly hadn't yet figured out all there was to know about this one, she could say that, despite all the fuss leading up to it, there wasn't much happening at this party. Festive or otherwise.
Both as a way to bring this up to Peter and just to change the subject, she asked, "So, is it just this one, or are all Christmas parties this... uneventful?" She didn't mean it in a criticizing way, just that you'd expect a lot more drama surrounding a celebration thrown by 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' beyond a brief spat about who got to choose the music.

Peter:
He had to admit he found her comment funny -- probably because she was right -- and he let out a laugh. "Well, I remember the Christmas parties growing up and they were always a lot more eventful," he told her. "I'm not sure if the Avengers just don't know how to party... or..." Or, with everything going on, they were having trouble celebrating. Peter suddenly frowned. Even with all the heartache, they still needed something to celebrate. Christmas was a time for forgiveness and happiness and rebirth. For just a day, all of them should try to be happy. "Nah," he amended, "I'm gonna say that the Avengers gathered here are just terrible at throwing parties. I heard that that Tony Stark guy knows how to throw a good party, though. Maybe it's so terrible because Steve was put in charge."
His eyes moved over just briefly to where Steve, Bucky, Rocket, and Tom had disappeared into the kitchen. That was probably going to turn out pretty badly. Especially if Rocket was involved. He focused his attention on Gamora once more. "You know how to throw a party?" he asked. "Got any good ideas on how to spice this up?"

(One day, the stars will align and I'll reply on time.)
Tom:
At least Tom washed his hands before starting at least. Bucky hadn't seemed to, but then again, Tom had turned away to watch Rocket complain about getting a tray. He turned back to the cookies and Steve's orders. "Sir, yes sir," he muttered with humor, low enough that it was possible not to hear him. Then he went to work, alongside Bucky, amused, but not particularly surprised with how things were going. "What's the plan while the oven heats?" he asked, curious.
--
Eveline:
John's question caught her off guard and Eveline stopped in the middle of the hallway to look at him. She blinked several times, looked John up and down, and then started walking again. Her head remained down then, looking at her shoes as she thought about John's question. After all, dangerous to him might not be the same thing that everyone else thought was dangerous. For example, was dangerous intelligence or strength or skill? It took her a second to answer then. "Not to you. Not to me. Generally speaking, he isn't very threatening at all. Unless he drags you into a sitution which makes you uncomfortable. But those situations aren't out of the ordinary." Her attention rose again. "Why do you ask?"
--
Percival:
"I know very little about you," Percival answered easily. "Your name, for starter. A bit of your reputation. Nothing gossipy I could tell my mother about. If she was alive, at any rate." He shrugged. "But I would say I know less than the Avengers do. I'm on the side-lines. I'm not the sort of person people would mention a "Logan" to." He paused, glancing toward the side of the building they were walking past. His posture said he'd heard something, but then he relaxed and kept moving, paying attention to Logan again. "I have a group, if that's what you're asking," said Percival, sounding amused. "Not one that's important or one that matters. Family. That's all. Keep asking that question though. It amuses me. What about me doesn't scream "regular human police officer," exactly? You seem set on fitting me into a different category."

(Oof. Painfully short. Sorry.)
Gamora:
Gamora smiled and let out a sniff of ironic laughter. "I haven't partied in over twenty years," she pointed out. No, she didn't know what to do. "If anything, you should. How were the Christmases you knew different to this?" Of course, they couldn't really compare Peter's childhood parties with his family to a bunch of Avengers in their base failing to entertain themselves. They were going to be different regardless. Still, it was a start, at least.
She did follow Peter's gaze over the counter and into the kitchen, where much of the current activity was at, and even she recognized that that, whatever was happening, would probably do plenty of spicing up on its own. Oh, boy.

Bucky and Steve:
Steve heard Tom mumble something, but what he said was lost to him. Steve just shrugged it off, though; if he'd wanted everyone to hear what he'd said, he probably wouldn't have mumbled it so quietly. "Right, so, cookie baking," Steve mumbled a few words of his own as he stood with his arms crossed watching them. There was nothing more for him to do but stand there. Perhaps if they'd actually had to make the dough it would have been more eventful, but as it was, they'd taken the easy route. Granted, it was probably for the best that they weren't trusted with actual baking. Frozen dough to the oven was a good idea with this crew.
Bucky paused with a ball of dough in his hand and looked at Tom. He lifted his eyebrows, unamused. "We put the dough on the cookie sheet," he told Tom. "And then we wait. Seems kind of simple." He shrugged, and then returned his attention back to the cookie dough. He placed the last ball of dough on the tray, and then let out a huff. "But, waiting is kind of boring." His eyes drifted towards the oven, which still read 'preheat'. And then he grinned and picked up the oven mitt. "Think quick!" he shouted, and threw the oven mitt at Tom. Nothing like a good ol' fashion game of catch in the kitchen.
John:
Her answer didn't make him any less confused. But, perhaps he did understand. It was complicated. And, as much as John would have liked to understand, he knew complicated, and sometimes that was just enough of an explanation as anything. "Just curious," John repeated, putting his hands in his pockets and then shrugging his shoulders as they stopped. "Trust," he added again, and then he looked out into the hallway, avoiding her eyes. "I lived with a bunch of people before I came here," he told her in a low voice. All that seemed like years ago, memories. "We were like family. Helps to know the people you're living with so you can trust. Otherwise, you've got nothing."
Logan:
"Interesting," Logan drawled a moment after Percival had finished speaking. "I'm not sure I'm really a good topic of gossip anyways," he told the other man. Certainly not someone to tell your mother about. "But, when you've been around as long as I have, you become a sort of legend. Or maybe more of a ghost story, I don't know." But what that legend was, he wasn't going to say. Regardless of the reputation Percival was talking about, he figured the man would know soon enough what he was if he didn't already. He shrugged, and then he paused for a brief moment, tilting his head to watch Percival. "I'm not convinced that you're not normal, but you're here, for starters. You wouldn't be here if you were ordinary. The people here are here for a reason. So far, I've yet to figure out where you fit into this equation, which is why the question remains what category you belong. Mutant. Inhuman. Super soldier. Science experiment. I don't know."
Peter:
Yeah, yeah. Peter was usually the one who 'spiced' things up. He was the one with the dance moves and the creative -- er, crazy -- ideas. But now he couldn't think of anything. Perhaps because he hadn't celebrated Christmas in a long time. Perhaps because the last time he'd actually celebrated Christmas, his mother had been alive and he'd been on Earth-- Peter swallowed thickly, and his eyes met Gamora's. "The Christmases that I knew were different because I was young," he told her. "I was a kid. Everything was magical and exciting, and I remember butterflies in my stomach when I went to sleep because the next morning I knew my-" He broke off, and cleared his throat. "-I knew that my mother and I would open presents beneath our Christmas tree."
Small tears were beginning to swell in his eyes, but he wouldn't cry. He cleared his throat once more, but attempted a smile. "The last time I celebrated Christmas, it was different because my mother was alive," he told Gamora. And then, he once more glanced over at the kitchen, glad for the distraction, and he caught Bucky throwing an oven mitt at Tom. Whatever they were doing in the kitchen seemed a lot more eventful than out here.

(Maple; ikr? XD I've been thinking the same thing, haha. And... we don't really have a plan, haha. But maybe we should come up with something! Anyone have any ideas? Cuz I know this halloween-turned Christmas party started as us rpg until everyone came back so that we could do our infinity war plot, but it's been months now XD) (Yeah, I don't know how many of the other Infinity War/Endgame rpers are coming back, which doesn't leave us with a lot of characters, so idk what to say ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Hum. Not sure. Maybe lift a conflict from the comics or something? Then do that on the side?)
