Dollar store shampoo Well if it's wrong, then why isn't it illegal? The latest one of those elections was in 2000... I think. Sorry if I'm wrong. you're probably right, but if the elections were rigged that would be very bad it isn't a case of rigging, exactly; it's the way the electoral system works… each state/D.C. (only exceptions being Maine and Nebraska) is a winner-take-all system so in any particular state, if Candidate 1 gets 38% of the vote, Candidate 2 gets 37% of the vote, and the other 25% goes to 3rd-party, Candidate 1 wins all the votes…
so let's say that state was California: Candidate 1 got 55 electoral votes right there…California is a big state and winner-take-all system means that even though 1 only beat out 2 by 1%, that 1% was enough to get all 55 of those votes
and in Texas, Candidate 1 got 32% of the vote, Candidate 2 got 38% of the vote, and the other 30% was 3rd-party…so Candidate 2 has 38 votes
now there are more states than TX and CA but it works the same in basically all of them (Nebraska and Maine, like I said, can be split, but they get respectively 5 and 4 votes total) so like I'm just going to pretend that these are the only two states
(edit: using the 2010 numbers for this math) TX about 25 million people so that means 1 got 8 million votes and 2 got 9.5 million votes CA about 37 million people so that means 1 got 14.06 million votes and 2 got 13.69 (obviously not everyone votes--some can't and many don't--but the principle is there) this adds up to 1 getting 22.06 million popular votes while 2 gets 23.19 million votes
which would seem to imply that Candidate 2 would win, right? after all, they got more of the popular vote than Candidate 1 did!
except that Candidate 1 got 55 electoral votes (because they won California) and Candidate 2 only got 38 electoral votes (because they won Texas)
so Candidate 1 wins by electoral vote, the one that ends up mattering, while Candidate 2 loses despite winning the popular vote
it's probably not the greatest system around, but it's how it works in the 2000 election, Gore got the highest percent of the popular vote, but with the way the states work, he didn't win enough of the "right" states, so Bush got more electoral votes because he won enough of the "right" states edit 2: i would be forever ashamed if my state (nc) went to trump tbh trust me I am ashamed to live in Kentucky

i would be forever ashamed if my state (nc) went to trump tbh It and Florida are very close in terms of polling right now.
I think that Clinton will have a higher amount of votes in the election than she's predicted though, as I reckon many swing voters will think "Wait. Do I really want to vote for Donald Trump and Mike Pence?"

Just have faith in America. I don't think all hope is lost for humanity. Faith is obviously hard to have when the news focuses on so many stories about radical and silly Trump supporters, but there are a large number of rational people just like you or I.

Neither candidate is a shining exemplar of society, but they're not absolutely bottom of the barrel. If Trump doesn't do anything when he's in office, he'll be impeached and laughed out of the White House. If Hillary does more of her sketchy things, then we'll have another situation like Watergate. She doesn't want that. With that said America isn't f*cked either, because even in the worst of times we've recovered and found another president who can bring us back up again. Wait four years, and someone else will be there to take their place.

That's a terrible viewpoint.

I'm not feigning ignorance. I'm just not really worried about things that are out of my control. I feel like you're being a literal doomsayer by saying that America is done for and everything is going to h*ll. Doesn't that strike you as being a little over the top?
