Chatter is usually useless. Chatter is usually nothing more than background noise, a mild distraction, whether it be in a restaurant or in a grocery store. But chatter can also be useful, especially when picked up on secret backchannels that no one is supposed to know about. And it's especially useful if it happens to be picked up by an organization dedicated to the protection of the human race. Because that's exactly what SHIELD heard: chatter. Chatter about a strike to occur in the capital city of Nepal: Kathmandu. Chatter that someone had taken possession of a certain powerful object, which they intended to take through any means necessary. Chatter that this someone was a mystic. Chatter that her father was none other than Doctor Strange himself. Where magicians came into play, SHIELD tended to think only one thing: oh great. Mysterious and powerful objects had caused them no end of grief in the past, and the thought of yet another one being dug up, and already pursued by evil forces unknown, only have its higher ups a headache. This was not to mention the fact that the closest team of agents they had was in Russia, and could be there in eighteen hours, at minimum. Which, with SHIELD's luck, would already be too late. This was where Alejandro Ramirez came in. Alejandro was their only agent anywhere close to the target, currently on an undercover op in the city of Lalitpur, only an hour's ride from Kathmandu. This assignment was deemed more important and more immediate than his current assignment, so Alejandro was quick to take a rundown bus, mostly used by tourists, into Kathmandu. He stepped off the bus into a metropolis even larger than the one he'd just left. Voices ran in his ears, mostly speaking in the native language of Nepali, but a few spoke English, no doubt speaking to the tourists that frequented this city. Alejandro glanced down at his phone just as it buzzed, sending him a street name. He quickly tucked the phone into his backpack, and set off down the street. He stopped only for a moment, to ask a street vendor where he might find the street, and quickly got directions that it was not far, only five blocks. Alejandro was looking for a girl. Well, a woman. Her name was Lucia Strange, daughter of the renowned magician Doctor Strange. Alejandro had been sent a high-quality picture of her, and had memorized her face before the text deleted itself. She had dark hair, dark eyes, and a self-confident expression. She wouldn't stick out in this crowd, but she wouldn't blend, either, unlike Alejandro. Blending in was his specialty. The last satellite image they'd had of Lucia was her entering a tea shop next to her hotel, only fifteen minutes ago. That's where Alejandro hoped to find her, knowing that if she moved, SHIELD would update him. It took Alejandro thirteen minutes to reach the street, and another two minutes to find the tea shop. Still, his phone had stayed silent, meaning his target was still inside. So Alejandro opened the door, and stepped inside. The scent of herbs assaulted his senses the instant he walked in. He was in a small café, with sunlight through the windows illuminating the dusty air, and the sound of the very thing that had brought him here: chatter. People sat at the few spindly, wooden tables that had been set up, sipping their tea. Many of them were obviously not locals; it had to have been a popular tourist spot. Alejandro glanced over the tables, and after a few passes, spotted her. She sat at a table against the wall, a cup in front of her, barely touched. She was fingering something, turning it over to catch the light, not bothering to hide it. She was either very bold, or very stupid. Shaking his head, Alejandro decided to go for a tourist approach, since his very looks pegged him as a foreigner. That could have been rectified, but given the circumstances... "Hello," Alejandro said when he'd approached the counter, putting on an American accent, acting as though he were simply another uncertain tourist. "I'd like some tea?" Soon enough, he had paid for the most popular tea with the American tourists, and told to find a seat, as it would be ready shortly. While there were plenty of patrons, there were also plenty of open tables. But instead, Alejandro meandered his way over to Lucia's table. He grabbed something from his pocket, two somethings actually, and held them cupped in his hand as he stepped up to her table. Alejandro put his palm on the table as he stood over her, leaning down as though to better examine what was in her hands. When her gaze moved up to him, he cocked an eyebrow. "Mind if I join you?" he asked, before he lifted his hand, and the piece of paper he'd left behind became apparent. He'd written three words on it, in English. It read: You're in danger. Plain and simple. And still in his hand was a badge. He held it so Lucia, and only Lucia, would be able to see it, cupped in the palm of his hand. It was a SHIELD badge, and hopefully enough to convince her that she was indeed in danger.

Lucia looked down at the object in her hand underneath the table. Of course, it might be a bit risky looking over it in a tea shop, but honestly she wasn't worried. Everyone here was either a local or a tourist. No other magic folk like herself. Anyone else wouldn't even make sense of the object and think it just to be a silly little trinket from a tourist shop. After all, she didn't quite look like any of the locals here even though she came rather often. For her, it was easy to travel here given she knew the gateway from home. Or she could simply use a portal and be here in an instant. Either way, she did love coming here and expanding her knowledge of her magic at the place where her father gained his power. She knew if her father saw her doing what she was doing, he'd likely be mad. But he wasn't here and she was smart enough to defend herself if anything happened. Besides, she was much more excited about what she found and trying to figure out what it was. A book sat on the edge of the table written in ancient letters and she briefly scanned it now and again before turning the page. Nothing so far, but the answer had to be in here somewhere. Unless this particular mystical object was a newer creation, it would be in this book. Sighing in slight annoyance, she blew some dark hair out of her face and looked up when she heard someone enter. A male, looking like he could be a tourist. She ignored him after that and continued to read through the book, flipping through a few more pages before finding something that might actually relate to what h=she had in her hand. "Wand of Watoomb... Hmmm," she murmured quietly, leaning a bit more forward and scanning the page. She hadn't gotten far when footsteps approaching caught her attention and she looked up to see that man again, approaching with a cup of tea. He asked if he could sit and she shrugged, though wondering why he didn't sit alone when there were plenty of open seats. However, a piece of paper and a badge later, she understood. Shield had been sent? A small sigh escaped her lips and she rolled her eyes, wondering if it was her father's doing. "When am I not?" she quipped in response to what was written, shrugging and leaning back in her seat. She realized she hadn't touched her tea since she entered and took a big sip before placing it down. "Did my dad send you?" she asked, looking at him with a slight expression of boredom as she slipped the object into her bag and placed a bookmark in the book before folding it closed and putting it to join the artifact. "Because if he did, just go back, tell him I realized how stupid and dumb I was, and it should be all good... No wait he wouldn't believe that..." Lucia bit her nails as she thought for a moment. "No tell him I accidentally blew a hole in the wall and realized what I was doing was stupid. He'll believe that. Or you can fluff it up a bit, I dunno you're supposed to know how to lie well, right?" she asked, referring to the fact he was an agent.

Taking that as an invitation to sit, Alejandro set his backpack on the floor as he slid into the seat opposite her. He tucked his badge back into a pocket of the backpack, doing a subtle recon of the café before sitting back up. No one appeared to be watching them, not yet at least, but appearances could be deceiving, as Alejandro himself frequently made an example of. "You're father didn't send me," he said, keeping up the American accent. "As far as I know, he has no idea we're here." He gave another sideways glance at the café. "You're in danger, and it's because of that." He nodded to the trinket she held in her hands. He lowered his voice. "Someone knows you have that, and they're sending someone after it, after you." He paused in his explanation as a server came over and set a mug in front of him. She poured the tea from a teapot, filling the cup up to the brim with steaming yellow-orange liquid. She told Alejandro to let her know if he wanted more, and Alejandro thanked her, saying he would. He waited until the woman was well away from their table before he began to speak again; not even the employees here were above suspicion. "We don't know who's after it, or how big the strike force will be," Alejandro said, taking a small sip of his tea to cover up his suspiciously quiet voice. "But as far as we know, you haven't mentioned your new discovery to anyone. If this person, or persons, knows that you have it, they either have magic, or lots of contacts; either one is possible." He took another sip of tea, not flinching when the hot liquid scalded his throat. "A SHIELD team is on its way; I was the closest they could find on short notice." His dark gaze flicked to the artifact again. "We're well aware of your capabilities, Miss Strange. We're only stepping in to ensure the safety of that object. It's only logical that if someone wants it this badly, it's dangerous, and odds are we don't want this person to have it."

Lucia sighed when he repeated himself that she was in danger. She already made it clear that she always was and rolled her eyes. But her dad hadn't sent him which did make things a bit more curious. Though Shield always liked to bring their nose into other's business so it wasn't too out of place. Before she could make a comment, the server came over to bring his tea to him before shuffling away with a smile. Leaning back in her seat, she took another sip of her tea and looked at him with a blank expression as he went along, shrugging when he mentioned someone was probably looking for what she had. "Alright, your point it? Do you know how many weirdos I have to deal with on a daily basis because of magic? I'll just bring it back to one of the gateways when I'm finished and it'll be safe there. Plenty of enchantments to keep people away," she said, leaning on her arm and blowing a strand of hair out of her face. "Seriously, you got all of Shield coming? Ugh, you guys can never stick to your own business, can you?" Growing tired of his presence, she pulled out a couple of coins and placed them on the table as a small tip. "Well uhh...whatever your name is, it was nice talking to you, but you can go back to your boss and tell him you weren't needed. Everything's fine, under control, yada yada whatever fluff story you wanna make up." She finished off her tea quickly and pulled her bag over her shoulder, standing up. She wasn't ready to let go of the wand just yet, if that's what she suspected it was. There was more time to play around with it and reveal all its secrets. Before he could protest, Lucia headed out the door at a quick pace, only stopping for a moment to take a brief look around in case there were any more agents before heading down the street. Weaving in and out of the crowd, she headed to the only place where she knew she could look over the wand in peace: Kamar-Taj. Little did she know that things were just about to get a little more eventful in the next ten minutes....

Alejandro blinked, watching Lucia's back as she retreated out the door. He let out a sigh and stood, grabbing his backpack. She was more naïve than he thought if she assumed he would just let her walk away. He stepped back out into the sunshine, scanning the crowd before picking Lucia out, heading south. He glanced back at her hotel, just a few paces away to the north. He frowned and started walking toward her, wondering where she was headed. it wasn't long before he drew up alongside her. "You know I can't just let you leave," he said, glancing down at her. "I was given an assignment and unless told otherwise, I have to follow it. And right now, that means watching over you." Alejandro wasn't often quick to judge, but this girl left a bad taste in his mouth. She was too confident for her own good, and that could spell danger not just for herself, but for other people. Perhaps she was just as capable as she said, but it was unnerving that someone had figured out what she had found so quickly. And someone that powerful meant someone dangerous; Lucia could be overestimating herself. (you wanna introduce the baddies? They are your character's henchmen, after all xDD)

And someone that powerful meant someone dangerous; Lucia could be overestimating herself. (you wanna introduce the baddies? They are your character's henchmen, after all xDD) Lucia felt his presence before he even appeared behind her and she rolled her eyes. She picked up her pace, but knew in the end it wouldn't do her any good until she got to Kalmar-Taj. There the spells would prevent him from entering if she so desired and she could be free to do what she wanted. "Look mister, I really don't care what your orders are. I don't have any orders and I need time to look over the thing your organization wants to get its grubby fingers on. Look buddy, I know you don;t control what Shield does, but the fact you're in an organization that thinks it's 'okay' to take whatever is wrong." She narrowed her eyes at him and walked right past her hotel, not intending on heading back there until she could get him off her back. But as she rounded the corner into the alley that led down to Kalmar-Taj, something rocketed in front of her, causing her to tumble to the ground and her bag to go flying across the alleyway. A large-robot-like being stood in front of her while a couple more flew down and surrounded them. "Ugh," she huffed, raising an eyebrow and shielding her face from the sun as she looked up. In the blink of an eye, she had swirled her hands and created a portal beneath her that transported her just feet away to her bag. "Looking for this?" she taunted, holding it up as they turned. The one in the center shot toward her, causing her to go flying into the brick wall. None of them payed Alejandro any mind, as they were tasked with one thing and one thing only - retrieving the wand.

"We weren't planning on taking anything," Alejandro said. At least not yet, he added to himself. Of course, they'd have to evaluate the threat level of the object Lucia now possessed; standard procedure. And this was a perfect example of why they did that: someone with an eye for destruction could find objects like these and use them for harm. SHIELD simply looked over the populace; they were interested in safety, no matter what else Lucia seemed to think. They rounded the corner of a building, into an alley that linked two neighboring streets. Alejandro was already starting regret his babysitting assignment when something happened to put the icing on the cake: the bad guys showed up. By instinct, Alejandro dropped to the ground and rolled to the side, coming up to see that they were surrounded. By what he guessed were robots. Clutching his backpack, Alejandro watched as Lucia teleported herself over to her bag containing the item these droids were after. And what a stroke of luck: they didn't seem to care about Alejandro one iota. That gave him an advantage. With one eye on Lucia as she taunted the bots, he opened his backpack and dug his hand around inside, reaching in a side pocket for what he was looking for. His fist closed around several metal disks as Lucia went flying into a nearby wall. With his weapons in hand, Alejandro stood, grabbing a single disk in his left hand. All the robots had their backs to him: that was their first mistake. He flicked his wrist out, sending the disk flying at one of the droids. It stuck to the bot like a magnet, and arcs of electricity went out over the robot. Close-range EMPs, gotta love them. But it didn't shut down the robot, as Alejandro thought it would. It just seemed to be slowing him down. No, he could worry about that later; a small distraction was better than nothing. As Lucia picked herself up off the ground, Alejandro flung the remaining EMPs at the other robots, causing them to stall, and for Alejandro to slip in between them to Lucia. "We have to go, now!" he said, grabbing her wrist and pulling her past the robots, who seemed to have discovered the source of their annoyance. There were many things running through Alejandro's mind: where to hide, where to run, how to stop the robots permanently. But he couldn't help but think of another, less obvious solution, one that involved Lucia: you have magic, do something!

Lucia landed hard on the ground, but she didn't let that get to her. It would just mean some bruises here and there and she could get over that. So while her fancy Shield companion distracted the robots, which looked too familiar to her but she couldn't place them, she stood. She made sure that she still had the wand on her person and as she did so, her wrist was grabbed. Looking up, she was ready to fight, but it was only the Shield guy and the next thing she knew, she was being dragged down the street. Many people screamed and shouted as they ran and the robots followed behind. Why did they seem so familiar? Nevertheless, they needed them off their back and she thought of the quickest and easiest solution she could. Yanking herself and her companion to a stop, she turned to face their foes as they came flying straight toward her. With all haste, she created a circle with her hands and a portal appeared in front of her just as they went flying toward them. Instead, they flew through the portal and she was quick to let it disappear. "Whoo, that was fun. Sent them to Antarctica. Should be a while before they get back here," she said with a smug smirk, tossing some of her hair over her shoulder. Of course, she had a feeling that it wouldn't be the last of them, because when technology was involved, there was usually much more than just three. Everyone remembered Ultron and his goons from Sokovia. She hadn't been there at the time but she heard the stories. Robots traveled in packs, it seemed. "As you can see, I can handle myself just fine," she huffed, turning back toward him. "So I think I'll be fine and dandy on my own. But let me guess, you're going to stick around, aren't you?" She raised a dark eyebrow, thinking of plenty of easy ways she could get away to be by herself. But like she suspected, she heard the metal clanking once more and up from above, a larger group of them was headed toward them this time, about ten or so if she was correct.

So she could portal the bad guy's away with barely a thought...that was rather convenient. But Alejandro refused to let down his guard even after the portal disappeared into thin air. He did a quick 360, looking around and around for more adversaries. He opened his mouth to retort, but then he heard it. The movement of metal joints. He turned his head to the sky to find more of the metal men coming straight for them. He looked at Lucia, then touched his hand to his ear, activating his comm. "The target and I are under attack, I repeat, we are under attack. We have been able to hold them off but it is unclear how many will be coming. Civilian causalities are a possible." He relayed all this information while glancing over at Lucia. Perhaps it was unprofessional, but Alejandro was running out of options. With him as the only agent, and surrounded by innocent civilians, magic seemed much more effective than SHIELD training at the moment. His contact responded, telling him what he could, that reinforcements were coming as fast as they could but were still hours away. They had ideas, but nothing too concrete. There was only so much one SHIELD agent could do. "Can't you portal them away too?" Alejandro shouted as people started screaming to the sight of metal men descending from the sky. They weren't firing, at least not yet; perhaps they'd been ordered not to damage her cargo. "Or us?" If they left, the robots would more than likely stop their assault.
