thats why you must be aware of when its socially appropriate, bc there are times jokes do belittle such issues, but sometimes theyre harmless or coping mechanisms fair, but my issue is that these jokes on serious topics are wayyy too often made in a inappropriate situation. tbh, i can't think of many times i've been in a situation where it appropriate to make jokes about people with cognitive disabilities and sexual violence, for two examples. and even though a joke may be intended as harmless by the person who says it, it can very easily have a harmful effect. i get what you're saying about coping mechanisms though. i've been there, where you joke about something serious to try and ease a situation you're finding stressful. there's not clear line in any of this, it's frustrating. i understand, and they do happen too often, its bc people are going for shock factor and yes it can have harmful effect when no harm is meant, so again-socially appropriate times and places and also, people bc you wouldnt make a cancer joke to a cancer patient or someone who lost someone to cancer but to a close friend who has nothing cancer related in their life in the private setting of one of your guys homes when it was brought up? yea, its acceptable and its especially acceptable if you yourself are a cancer patient and its how you cope but as you said, the lines are not clear and they arent, theyre blurred

i joke about whatever the heck i want and im fine with other people doing that too unless its outright malicious like, poking fun at a stereotype is alright, all in good fun. but the moment that it feels like theres actual hatred underneath your joke then you just crossed a line. context is important too. also, some people find certain things more offensive than others so its probably best to hold back on dark humour until you know someone's boundries. although i am sorta sick of all these 15 year old boys screaming "THIS IS WHY I HAVE CRIPPLING DEPRESSION" no you dont, you useless broken crayon. no you don't.

Kkk jokes
Jokes about down syndrome
The only time I would laugh at a sexual assault joke is if it was told by this one person I'm friends with because of the voice he does with it. But other than him it's just stupid.

"My knees make better music than drake!" Oh god no. This is why I hate my sisters. Whenever my sister squats, her knees pop. Hence the saying above.

OTD
Jokes that take serious issues and make fun of them. When someone dies, you shouldn't joke about it. When someone is mentally ill and you're in their company, you shouldn't joke about it. Etc Etc etc
Also we need to kill Harambe again.

"I don't know; CAN YOU?"
Can I say 'can' without you making the worst joke it the world; one that wasn't even funny the first time it was said?
Right now I'm starting to think I can't.
