(first time rping on here; PLS let me know if I do something wrong)
Patherkit woke up with a small groan. Pain was still piercing through her empty eye socket, and the image of the blue eye, her blue eye, rolling across the ground flashed into the kits small mind. Her fur was soaked with bog water although she didn't mind. What she was worried about was whether she'd find someone who would give her food soon or if she would have to catch her own. Blood was caked on her pelt and even though she tried to clean it with her small tongue, it didn't help and it gave her dark fur a rusty red color in places where there were wounds hidden under kitten-fluff.
Quietly she stood and began walking again. The marsh muck was slick under her paws and she almost fell once or twice. But soon, she saw a few cats standing together. She debated going to them, but decided she had better if she wanted to survive. "Hel-" she slipped and was dunked into water before she clumsily paddled through it and back onto the ground. Bluck. This stuff smells worse than dung. "Hello. My name is Pantherkit. I don't have parents anymore and I'm really hungry."

(I can have Talltalon be on the patrol, most of the Clan is gathering materials right now, so I can just have him and anyone else who wants to add a cat on be the patrol that finds her.)
Talltalon’s head shot up as he suddenly scented an unfamiliar scent through the muck of the marsh around them. He placed down the marsh grass in his jaws, the stern tom bristling as he saw the shape of what looked to be a young cat approaching. It was clear that she was frazzled, and was likely washed up in the flooding earlier. His stern anger changed to a more concerned gruffness as the cat fell in the water.
As she recovered, Talltalon lifted his chin and padded towards her, his voice gruff as he eyed her up and down. “You’re too old to be a kit, and you don’t look like any Clan cat I’ve met. Pantherkit… a Clan name. Hmph. Did the waters wash you up here? You certainly look starved…” He was clearly processing her plea, his orange eyes sharp yet his sense of honor to the Code reminding him that if she was indeed a kit, then they would have to help her. His tail lashed as he called to his patrol.
“Oi! Come over here!”

Pantherkit hesitated. This tom didn’t look too nice, and his gruff tone of voice discouraged her. “I…” she shifted uncomfortably on her paws. “I was just wondering if I could have something to eat.” Then she looked over at the other cats who were approaching and started backup, her fur beginning to puff and her one eye widening with fear.
“Oh uhm…” she trailed off as she continued backing up. “It’s not a big deal. I can leave. I’m sorry for going on your territory, the flood washed me here. I’ll leave now.” Her eye was still swollen and painful, and she kept blinking as though it was simply full of gunk and if she blinked enough it would magically re-appear. “I’m sorry.” She repeated as she backed up to the edge of the small stream, but now her small claws were showing and she stiffened. Please don’t kill me I’ve come so far.

“Calm down. We’re not going to attack you.” Talltalon rumbled with a small huff. He looked at Pantherkit’s eye and sighed heavily. “That looks like it’ll get infected real fast. Look. We don’t have much prey to spare, the same flood that got you just barreled into the rest of us earlier.” He glanced at his patrol before he relented. “I can get you to see our leader, and if he accepts, then we might have a scrap or two to spare. But that’s not a promise. I’d rather you not draw prey-maulers in if you shrivel up out here.” He admitted.

Pantherkit rolled her eye. “I wouldn’t die ‘here’. I’d probably wander until I drown in marsh water and sink to the bottom.” She wasn’t scared by the thought of death in the least. “But if you bring me to the camp, all I need a tiny bit of food and then I’ll leave.” Her eye was burning like fire but she said nothing. If eventually, maybe, somehow, they let her join, she didn’t want to seem weak.

If eventually, maybe, somehow, they let her join, she didn’t want to seem weak. “So you would just die there instead.” Talltalon deadpanned with a lift of his brow, before he gave a small sigh. “You’re too beat up to quarrel with and I’ve got more pressing issues than chasing off a kit. Well.” He looked at her again. “An apprentice-aged cat, more like. Fine. Come with us, and don’t fall in anymore water pools.” He ordered sternly, turning to lift his tail for Pantherkit to follow him.

Gentleshade blinked in surprise as she noticed a small figure standing next to Talltalon, she had just left his side for a moment to go gather some den building materials. "Talltalon! Who's this?" she mewed, dropping her bundle of sticks.

Pantherkit hesitated. But eventually she gave in and began following him, keeping an eye (quite literally) out for pools of water so she wouldn’t fall into them. She had fun dodging and weaving through the muck in an attempt to follow instructions and not get more wet than she already was. Even though her scratches still hurt, she was beginning to ignore the pain and distract herself with thoughts of perhaps a warm nest to sleep in. But that was of course up to the leader. And if they didn’t let her, then she would just keep moving until she found somewhere to sleep. Although she couldn’t imagine why a leader would turn away a kit.
“Aha!” She jumped across a particularly large puddle and stood there for a moment, reveling in her large jump before continuing to follow the tom. When she saw another cat, she paused and began backing up again. Whoever they were, they were a bit larger than herself and therefore a threat.

Talltalon glanced back at Pantherkit, giving a tiny grunt of approval at her leap over the puddle, before he turned to train his orange eyes on Gentleshade. He spoke with a calmer tone now, if a bit tired. “Says her name is Pantherkit. Issue is, I don’t think she’s from any Clan. So, whoever’s naming kits out here knows about us.” He blinked, before rumbling.
“Pantherkit, this is Gentleshade. One of my Clanmates. We were gathering materials for our dens, but we’ll bring you back to camp with the materials.” He looked at Gentleshade once more. “She’s got a bad looking mess on her eye, and she’s starved. Young enough to abide the Code for this one, I would say.”

Gentleshade dipped her head to the kit with a soft smile, "Nice to meet you Pantherkit. We have a medicine cat that can help with your eye. We'll have you seeing out of it again in no time."

Peeping out from behind ‘Talltalon’ she said shyly, “Your fur is pretty.” Pantherkit never thought of herself as pretty. In fact, she always thought she was ugly because that’s what Viperkit, her mother, and her father had always told her.
Then she turned to the tom defiantly. “I’m not starving,” she declared, “I caught and ate a lizard last night.” But then a small grumble escaped her stomach which gave away just how hungry she really was. “Well, I guess the lizard was two days ago. But, I still ate something in the past week. My mama used to say that if you’ve eaten something in the last fourteen moonrises, then you’re not starving.”

Gentleshade tried to stifle her gasp as she listened to Pantherkit, her face drawn close together with sorrow. "Well we don't believe things like that here in Shadowclan. If Cedarstar allows you to stay with us, you will learn to hunt and fight for you clan but we will also make sure you are provided for. Shadowclan cares for each other."

Talltalon would have been alot sharper about the whole situation if he didn’t have kits of his own. But now that he did, it was hard to fight the part of himself that saw this she-cat as a hungry kit. While Talltalon wanted to cuff her ears for her sharp mouth, the words she spoke so casually spoke of the suffering she unknowingly went through. He grunted lightly.
“Gentleshade’s right. Here, in Shadowclan, we look out for eachother. I can’t speak for Cedarstar, but I’m sure that there’s something we can offer you that can help. Our medicine cat can’t turn an injured cat away… and I suppose we can’t either.” He gave a light scowl. “Even if you do have a little attitude on you, kit.”

"Oh, Spottedpaw's my best friend!" Fuzzypaw said without missing a beat. She quickly dipped her head to Hazelblaze and the kits outside the nursery, noticing their downcast expressions but deciding it wasn't the right moment to butt in. She ducked into the tangle of thorns and drug out lumps of dirty and soaked moss to start drying. "We started training right around the same time, even though I think I'm a little older than him. I'm not actually totally sure how old I am, since I can't remember!" she laughed, unbothered as she began to squeeze a ball of moss. "He really made me feel like I belonged in ShadowClan, even though I didn't know who I was or where I came from or any of that stuff." "Ah, I'm chattering like a starling again! Sorry, your ears will probably drop off by the time I finally move to warriors' den," she added bashfully. Lightpaw listened intently, the silver and white she-cat blinking up at Fuzzypaw as though the she-cat was running herself in circles. She giggled lightly, able to imagine right away that Fuzzypaw and Spottedpaw were one day going to be very, very in love. Her mother and father were the best of friends, and then they became the best of mates. That's how it went, at least to her knowledge. She shook her head. "It's okay! I think it's funny when you chatter alot because you like talking about it. I do that sometimes!"

Pantherkit felt discouraged. She had been proud to have remembered what her mama had said, because mama always said that she didn’t remember anything told to her. ‘Pantherkit why don’t you come home on time like Viperkit? Do you forget everything told to you?’ And, ‘Why couldn’t you have been pretty like your sister? You’re such an ugly and useless thing.’ Her eye filled with tears for a moment as her mother’s harsh words seemed to rattle around her skull. But then she shoved the thoughts away, and looked at the ground. “I’m sorry.” She said, “I don't try to have a sharp tongue. But I'd rather have a sharp tongue than try to fight my sister. She had sharp claws. But I don't have to worry about her now. I think I would like 'Shadowclan'."

He gave a sigh, though his voice was less gruff this time as he relented. "It's fine. Honestly, most of us have sharp tongues here in Shadowclan. It's how we keep ourselves tough against the other Clans. It's best to keep our scary persona so they don't mess with us, but when we're with eachother, us Shadowclan cats are dependable and loyal..." He guided her and Gentleshade back towards camp, though he blinked with a hint of curiousity. "You have a sister? Was she supposed to be there with you, or did you get separated?"

She hesitated. This was still a sensitive subject for her, because she could still feel the sting of betrayal as Viperkit had left with the rogues. "She..." her throat felt dry and her tongue swollen. "When my mama was killed, she decided to leave with the ones who killed her. And she left me behind. She told me I was 'too weak' to go with them."
Her mind suddenly filled with anger, and she said in a defiant and angry voice, her eye full of tears that she didn't hide, "Well I'm not weak! Just because I decided to not join those murderers doesn't mean I'm weak." With a small choked sob, she let herself cry for a moment before sniffing and pulling herself together. "I'm not weak," she whispered to herself.

"I'm not weak," she whispered to herself. Talltalon listened intently, silent by the sudden outburst. He felt himself scowl with anger on the she-cat's behalf. The thought of one's own kin abandoning them for the sake of trailing after the power-hungry reminded him of the dreadful days of Adderclan. He blinked, mewing firmly. "Seems to me like a weak cat wouldn't be able to manage on their own as well as you have so far. A cat who refuses the hunger of power and greed is far stronger than the cat who obsesses over it." He glanced back at Pantherkit. "Of you and your sister, I would say that you are the strong one, kit."

With a small sniff, Pantherkit managed a watery smile although she didn’t really believe him. “Thank you. I didn’t want to go with them because I saw them kill my mama. Even if I didn’t like her, I never wanted her dead.” But then she sighed. “I guess I never have to worry about her saying I’m never enough anymore, or worry about getting my ears cuffed by my sister.”
She kept silent from then on, mulling over that night when her sister had left and her mother’s throat had been slit. Was she really strong? Could she really be stronger than Viperkit? She didn’t think so. But maybe, just maybe, this gruff tom cat knew what he was saying. Quietly she asked him, although in a way she was asking more herself, “Do you think I’ll be worthless?”

Quietly she asked him, although in a way she was asking more herself, “Do you think I’ll be worthless?” "Here, in the Clans, cats like those are cowardly. Worthless. The kill with no honor, just mindlessly. They trample over everything we build." Talltalon grunted, narrowing his eyes. "Yet, Clan cats are always stronger. Here, we train apprentices into Warriors. How to hunt, to fight, to protect eachother and our way of life, and our Code. That is what Shadowclan cats do. You have the right mindset, to not want to join a band of rouges." He flicked his tail sharply, before he blinked and snorted. "Worthless? If you want to be worthless, you will be. If you don't want to be worthless, you won't be. That kind of fate is all up to you, and what you do with the life you have. Do you think you'll be worthless? Or do you think that you can be more than that?" He reminded.

Mistkit's ears perked slightly at the mention of Snowdance, "I wanna be Snowdance's apprentice. Maybe I'll get to see Papa in my dreams again some day." she mewed hopefully, "I'll miss him too Featherkit. Lots and lots." Hazelblaze held her nieces close, the pain of the losses settling down on her shoulders. "You'll miss him forever, and that's okay. I miss Redspark and Mosspaw every day, but I know they're in Starclan watching over me and our clan and that makes me feel better. You might get to see Stormfury again in your dreams Mistkit if you do become Snowdance's apprentice. Starclan speaks directly to medicine cats and leaders." "Will you say hello to him for me?" Featherkit asked her sister shyly. "And tell him we miss him lots and lots, but hope that he is okay with StarClan? Please?" She blinked hopefully at Mistkit, not really understanding what it meant to speak with their ancestors, but knowing it was important.

Her eye glittered with renewed confidence. “I don’t think I’ll be worthless. I wish I could be as confident as you seem to be, but maybe I can be eventually. But for now, I just want a bite to eat and maybe for my eye to stop hurting.” She yawned, her tiny fangs showing. “Maybe some sleep too, although I can make do without that I guess.” Her small paws were aching from all the walking she had done that day, but she didn’t say anything. Perhaps this clan could be what she was looking for. Besides, it’s not like she had anywhere else to go.
“Do you think that ‘Cedarstar’ will let me stay? I promise I can learn to hunt, and I can fight. It might be a little bit hard because I don’t have one of my eyes anymore, but I would rather struggle with it and succeed than give up and go sink to the bottom of a marsh. Plus, that stuff smells like dung.” To emphasize her point she stuck out her tongue and made a small “bluck” noise.

Inwardly, he wondered if this she-cat would ever know that he had once been as nervous and unsure as she was. He had once been the one that felt his sister was stronger than he was. Yet, he had loved his sister so deeply, and losing her had destroyed the once gentle cat he had been once and for all. Well... that, and the dark and vicious mentor he had. Blackmist's training had made him very strong, yet at the cost of his safety and self-esteem. Even now, he still felt hollow about himself when he thought of how Blackmist would push him beyond his limits. He shook the memories away, grunting. "Cedarstar has a soft spot for cats without families, even if they are not born in the Clan. At least, that is what I've noticed. I can't make any promises, but I can remind him that if you ended up here, and you're willing to put in the work, that there may be more use of you than a burden of an extra mouth to feed. We've suffered many dangers lately, and prey is very scarce." He mewed honestly, not wanting to give any false hope. "We'll see."

“I’m old enough to learn to hunt,” she said, “and when I’m healed I would love for someone to teach me how to. But I don’t want to be a burden until then.” She licked her lips nervously. Hopefully Cedarstar would let her stay at least until she healed, because she felt confident from then on she could learn how to survive on her own. “I don’t really know how clans work, maybe you could explain it to me?”

Talltalon mewed, pushing past a few fronds of marsh grass as he glanced back at the she-cat and grunted. "There are five Clans. Shadowclan, Skyclan, Thunderclan, Riverclan, and Windclan. We all live by the same code, but our traditions and traits differ by Clan. Shadowclan is active at night, while the other Clans are active during the day. We focus on stealth, strategy, and innovative ways to feed ourselves since our territory is the least prey-rich. But don't let that fool you. We can and will fight to protect what is ours, as fiercely as we need to." He lifted his chin boldly, his body evidence of those battles with the scars that dotted his black pelt.

Pantherkit looked in awe of his many scars. Then she looked down at her own body at the scratches and wounds that were scattered across her dark pelt. But then her eyes became happy as she realized that he had said that nighttime was when they operated. “I love nighttime. I used to get in trouble because I didn’t come home on time, but it seems like this might be the place for me. And if Cedarstar rejects me, then I’ll still go hunting at night as I please!” The idea of freedom was appealing to her greatly, although even if she wasn’t ‘free’ this clan would be perfect for her. Her eye glittered with happiness. “I want to learn to hunt, and stalk prey at night, and be cunning!” All of those traits and her thoughts seemed to weave a spell around her, and she became very determined that she would convince Cedarstar to let her stay.

"Cedarstar cares a lot about his kits, so he'd still be in there even if Palepaw was perfectly okay," she reasoned. "But he's definitely injured badly...but I think he'd got to be okay, at least for now." "If he were going to...well, if the wounds were that bad, they wouldn't have made it back here. I think infection is probably the big concern now?"
