(I wondered if you did that on purpose XD) "Thanks again, Shortcloud." Cedarstar nodded to her. "If you need anything else, let me know. I'm..." He sighed and sheepishly shrugged. "I'm rather bored in here." (I've got cats that can go on a patrol if you want Shortcloud to take one out) Ashrock flinched when she applied the herbs, their juices stinging so sharply into his pads, he let out a hiss. "Oh, yes, I'll just lay around all day be accused of not caring by my clanmates. If I work to hard, they think I'm trying to take Cedarstar's place again. If I don't work hard enough, they accuse me of being lazier than Smokestorm. I can't catch a break, so I might as well keep myself busy." "From the screams I've heard from kitting she-cats, I probably wouldn't." Eaglesight agreed with her with a teasing grin. "I'll stick to doing the brute work around the camp while you she-cats take care of the kits." "I imagine that going from leading cats to staring at a dark wall is quite boring." Shortcloud joked. "I'll let you know how the patrols go. And if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. We're always willing to help you."

Closesky flicked his ear. It was good to hear that RiverClan made it through, but from everyone's reports it sounded like ShadowClan was hit the hardest. Not surprising, since the fire started here. He nodded to Pinefeather. "I guess we should be grateful they're alright. With yours and Moonpetal's warning, hopefully RiverClan will realize they owe us."
"Good." Frogleap stepped past Treadtail in the direction of the camp entrance. "Then you'll come with me on a border patrol. We might be able to snag a few more cats to join us." he looked at his sister. "Poppyflame, why don't you go take a break without me."

Cedarstar nodded back to Shortcloud, his ear flicking rapidly at the thought of his Clan helping him when he should be helping his Clan. "I won't take anymore of your time, Shortcloud. Thank you."

Treadtail nodded, taking a shuddering breath as he forced himself to follow along behind the tom. "I-IT'll be h-hard for me to get cl-close to it again. You'll need to p-push me o-on no matter wh-what. Okay?" He tried to stop his stuttering but couldn't, he'd have to fix that some other time.

(Frogleap and Treadtail are about to go on a patrol, Frozen, Short can join them and we can just say she talked to Cloud since Fire can't get on)
"I think you can handle it on your own, Treadtail. You're braver than you think." Frogleap replied calmly.

Moon: Hiddendream looked at her brother then towards the lizard letting out a soft breath, "There isnt much is there?" she asked him not certain about eating the lizard at the moment. There were others who needed it more then she did besides she could hold off right? She had only just found out she didnt think she needed to eat that much too soon. No one else needed to know yet. She could hide it. ~~ Blazer: Raccoonmask shuddered looking into her brothers eyes trying hard to not pull herself away. She wanted to turn tail and head back into the burnt pines to look for more moss or frankly anything to keep her from entering into the camp. Letting out a shaky breath she moved her face to look at him, "I...I cant...they arent there....," it would be accepting they would no longer be coming home. Roseleaf and Quailfrost would no longer share the camp with them, no longer share the warrirors den. She looked away once more not saying anything more. Songbreeze looked at him softly, "Only if there is some for the other queens as well. Jaysong should be having her kits any day...and Leaffrost and Spiderfang," she looked at her paws. She didnt deserve to eat prey before them, she didnt have her kits by her side, Pearlkit could be traded between the other queens; she could have gone back to the warriors den. Cardinalblaze understood then, his heart breaking for her plight. Inwardly, he felt similar. The thought of going in camp and never seeing his mother or sister again was...it was painful. Even so, he also knew that Raccoonmask would be no happier out of camp than in camp, where she was needed. He looked at her, sitting down and shaking his head lightly. "I understand now...You don't want to go into a camp where Roseleaf and Quailfrost aren't there. I...it's going to be the hardest thing we'll do. But we need to. I need you to, even if it's painful, and even if it's terrifying. Shadowclan needs the camp restored, and I can't bear to think of you sleeping outside of camp alone. Please, Raccoonmask. If not for me, come into the camp for the cats who lost their lives to honor it..." "My mother would sooner give you her prey than eat herself. And Leaffrost's kits don't need the milk that Pearlkit does. I will agree on Jaysong though. So you and her should take priority." Lionscorch decided, knowing his mother and sister's kits were much older.

Ratmask scoffed. "And who's fault is it that I've endured so much loss?" He frowned at Spiderfang and dragged over more brambles. "It's my own fault. If I hadn't been so foolish, my kin would still be alive." Houndthroat stopped in his tracks and faced Lilypaw, his face was blunt with a frown. "I wouldn't lose in a training session against a couple frog-brained apprentices. Who do you take me for? Frogleap or Tumblefoot?" "Ah. I know what this is." Spiderfang exhaled, after waiting a few moments after Ratmask's words. She shook her head sharply, before she mewed out. "I always hated how Aurablaze brought you up to blame yourself for every shortcoming in your family. Sure, you could have been a perfect warrior. But the cats who you lost would have still been lost. Even the strongest, bravest and most dedicated Warrior cannot defeat death when it comes to take its victims." She glanced at her apprentice firmly. "I thought the same as you did for moons after my mother and father died, in a fire as well. I blamed myself, but Closesky wouldn't have it. He drilled that out of me, and while I can't say I'll ever be able to do the same, I can say that foolishness doesn't play a part in it." She flicked her tail, turning back to the hole in the den wall. "Besides. You saved your kits. Had you truly been foolish, you would have lost them too, yes?" "No, not at all." Lilypaw hummed, catching up to the Warrior to pad innocently at his side. "Because Frogleap and Tumblefoot would take their losses with stride. You would just be sore about it...I'm teasing you, you know. You're a good challenge, Houndthroat. You keep me on my toes." She admitted with a quiet chime of laughter.

Moon:
Opalmist staid where she was not moving an inch. She didnt back down from the warrior keeping her gaze steady on him, having spent alot of time with the tom since he had been confined to the medicene cats den she knew of his stubbornness but it wasnt going to stop her, oh no not one bit. Her tail swished as she smiled watching him give in and lapping up the poppy seeds glad he was taking her words and turning them into actions and granted he didnt have much of a choice in the matter. He would be sleeping one way or another. Though she was taken by surprise hearing him thank her as he walked out of the den. Her head dipped a bit in acknowledgement her smile returned, "You are always welcome," she meowed.
"I....I try to be strong...," Hiddendream sighed softly shaking her head a bit looking down at her paws. ~
Blazer:
Raccoonmask shuddered not sure she could do this, she didnt want to step into the camp without them, it would be fully admitting they would never return and her heart just couldnt take it. No she would accept it. Her entire body shuddered just thinking about it. Fully knowing that they would never be around. She and Quailfrost werent that close and neither was her and her mother....now she would never see them again. There deaths shattered her beliefs they were forever gone. She just shook her head back and forth unable to break free of the fog that enraptured her mind. She didnt want to fully accept that they were gone.
Songbreeze frowned a bit shaking her head, "She isnt my own....any queen could have raised her," she whispered tears in her eyes as she looked at Lionscorch.

Ratmask kept his ears back and stubbornly refused to look at her. He hated admitting whenever she was right, and she might be right in this case. "It's only a matter of time." Ratmask applied his weight on the branch to help Spiderfang weave it in. "Next time one of them might die or Moonpetal might die and it will be my fault like always. If I hadn't gotten lost in the storm, Longsight wouldn't have had to come back for me. If I hadn't gotten sick, then Pouncefire wouldn't have caught the illness too, and if I had stayed with Leaffrost and the other warriors, Marshong wouldn't have had to come after me and my kits. I keep making mistakes that lead to the deaths of others. I won't allow that to happen to anyone else."
Houndthroat kept his ears back, not entirely sure what she was talking about, and he wasn't sure he liked it. "Oh, good," He stated bitterly. "I'm glad I could be such a use to you." He didn't want to admit that she was right. Of course he would be sore about losing to a couple apprentices. Tumblefoot and Frogleap weren't fighters, so they easily shrugged off a loss by accepting that some of their skills were worse than others. Houndthroat, on the other paw, liked to think he was good fighter and if he lost to apprentices, well...that was just sad.

Ashrock flicked his ear and slipped out of the medicine den without another word. He kept his gaze on the warriors den when he crossed the camp to it. He didn't want to give anyone a reason to think they could come up and talk to him.
"And you are." Eaglesight nudged. "I've seen it, Hiddendream, you're stronger than me sometimes"

Opalmist moved to watch from the entrance of the den her tail moving behind her. She left out a soft breath actually relieved he was going to rest. Though her gaze traveled around camp things were slowly taking shape there was still much to do.
"How am I stronger then even you Eaglesight? You are always so optimistic and so strong when it comes to emotions and helping others," Hiddendream sighed shaking her head. Sometimes she couldnt even imagine how he did it.

The she-cat shrugged sighing a bit looking away towards the warriors den letting out a soft breath, moving forward was going to be difficult. Though she was glad to have family by her side she would need them now more then ever. She didnt speak for a few moments before turning her head back towards her brother, "Thank you Eaglesight," she meowed.

But we can choose now how we continue on, for their sakes. Mother wouldn't have wanted to see you in pain, and even if Quailfrost was distant, I know she wouldn't have wanted you in pain either. Cedarstar used to calm me when I had my own fears. He used to tell me that the only cat that held me back was myself. Please, Raccoonmask, I want to see our home rebuilt, and I want you there with me to see it." "Not like you could. Not like you can." Lionscorch shook his head stubbornly, grooming between her ears. "Pearlkit belongs with you. I see the way you look at her, and look at how comfortable she is with you." He urged, looking down proudly at their charge.

If not for you, they would have done the same for anyone else. I can't tell you that everything is faultless. Perhaps you could have stayed in camp. Perhaps you could have stayed away more when you were sick. But it happened, and it's something you work hard to honor. I'm only glad that even now you put Shadowclan first, even if you do it in a lizard-brained way." Spiderfang rumbled, weaving in tune with the younger tom without missing a beat. "The real catch is though, that even if you do all you can to keep those kits alive...you still may lose them, if you allow them to see your absence as lack of pride in them. I can't stop you from making your choices, but are you prepared for that kind of loss, Ratmask?" Spiderfang asked sharply. "I'm glad that you're glad." Lilypaw perked, before she tossed her eyes and offered a sense of a truce with the tom. "Alright then. How about I pay you back? I'm free to help you in any way you want until Ratmask has need of me. You're one of the best den builders in the camp, at least from what I've seen. Teach me your ways." She demanded.

"They'll understand why I keep my distance." Ratmask huffed and moved to get another bramble. "They're cleverer than your average kit, they'll know I'm still proud of them."
Houndthroat squinted at her with suspicion. He wasn't entirely sure if she was mocking him or not. He wasn't even sure how he kept her on her toes. "Look, I don't know what kind of a frog-brain you take me for, but I'm not going to get roped into a whole afternoon of you mocking me. Go bother someone else, Lilypaw."

But I know how much you wanted cats to look at you like you meant something, even if you never admitted it. I know my daughter, and she understands you without missing a beat. I understand you now because I trained you. Kits take far longer to understand anything. I just want you to keep that in mind.” Spiderfang sighed, blunt but honest in her words. Starclan, she truly was getting softer, wasn’t she? She grimaced at the thought, but felt the words bubble up anyway. “You know that I’m proud of you, Ratmask? The only one I had that stuck, and you pushed through everything I threw at you. I just want your kits to know that their father is a true Warrior.” “Oh, I’m not mocking you!” Lilypaw puffed, pouting with a small scowl. “I’m serious! So far you and I have done alot of work for the camp, right? I can depend on you as a building partner, even if you’re as prickly as a pinecone.” She admitted.

Ratmask grew still at Spiderfang's words. He didn't think he was being anything like Aurablaze, was he? Yet, Spiderfang's words did hit home with him. He did want to be more than just ShadowClan's hairless cat. His father had seen him that way before he died and Brightmask had as well. A sigh slipped from Ratmask's throat. He could claim all he wanted that his kits were cleverer than your typical kit, but Spiderfang was right, they were still just kits. Yet, he couldn't justify risking their lives in his bad luck just to satisfy their need to be wanted. As their father, it was his job to look after them, to protect them and he could only protect them by staying away. "I know your proud of me, Spiderfang," he said softly.
Houndthroat huffed and against his better judgement, he believed her. "Well, I'm a little sick of den building right now. So, I think I'll go on a hunting patrol instead. If you want to build dens, find someone else." He pushed passed her to head to the camp entrance.

Blazer:
Raccoonmask whimpered softly as she pressed against her brother letting tears slip from her eyes. She didnt remove her face from his shoulder seeking his comfort, "I...I dont want....I didnt want to loose them....they wont know how much they meant to me...how much I loved them," she stuttered out through sobs. They would never be together again as her heart ached feeling broken inside.
Songbreeze blinked looking at him biting her tongue for a moment watching Pearlkit tilting her head watching the kit nuzzle against her belly. The blind pure white kit her eyes nor ears were open and she was so tiny. The queen bent over nuzzling the kit before licking her softly, a low purr escaped her but there were tears in her eyes, she couldnt truly claim her as her child. ~

"You think this is a good time to tell him?" Hiddendream frowned a bit letting out a shaky breath as she stared at the warriors den.

"Then know that no matter what you choose, it doesn't take away the fact that you proved all of yourself to me a long time ago. This is your battle though, and you have to choose if you will strike from the back, or stand in the front line." Spiderfang nodded, turning her orange gaze upon him. "I only say this because Longkit's been staring at you often. I can't tell if he's in awe of you, or hoping you'd show him how to sneak through the shadows." She snorted, a rusty laugh escaping her before she steeled herself again. "I know you'll do what you think is best though. You're a smart cat, you'll figure it out." She decided.
"Oh no you don't!" Lilypaw exclaimed, before she quickly scooted after him. The tiny she-cat flicked her curled ears, lifting her nose up. "I told you that I'd let you take the lead, but I want to help, so if you go hunting, then I'll just come with you. I'm serious, I'm not going to mock you or anything." Lilypaw admittedly still had that streak of shyness in her, hiding the fact that she did want to just be around him lately. Maybe it was the way he retorted to her so easily, or the way he made her snicker without having to do much. Either way, he had become her best chore partner by default.

"Hey now." Cardinalblaze soothed. "You won't ever lose them. All of Roseleaf's kin that still live, live with her in them. We live with her in us. And Quailfrost loved Shadowclan, and protected it with the sharpest claws and tounge in the clan! So long as we live in the clan that Quailfrost protected, she'll never stop protecting us. I...I can't say why I know, but I just know that she loved you, even if she was too stubborn to admit it outloud. She has to know that now." He consoled.
"I wonder what her eyes will look like. Do you think they'll be blue? Maybe orange?" Lionscorch puffed his chest at the thought of his kin having similar eyes as him. Most likely they would be blue, though Lionscorch was always one to enjoy a good surprise.

(Hey Fox!)
"Think about it." Eaglesight flicked his ear. "He's laying in his nest with empty space beside him. I can't begin to understand how he feels, but maybe hearing of your kits will give him hope to push on. Mother would be thrilled to learn that your expecting and no matter the pain he feels, Father would be too."
Ratmask flicked his ear and for a fleeting moment, he glanced back toward the nursery. He hadn't been involved in naming his kits, Leaffrost had done that and she named their son after Ratmask's father. Ratmask couldn't say for sure if Spiderfang was right or not. He hadn't noticed Longkit looking at him, but Ratmask tended to not look at him. Ratmask sighed. "Are you going to all day or are we actually going to get this done?" He brought another bramble to Spiderfang.
Oh, for StarClan's sake! Houndthroat pinned his ears back when she started following him. He just couldn't get rid of her, could he? Yet, he knew Cedarstar had ordered that no one was allowed to leave the camp alone, so he had to take someone with him. He supposed it was better off being Lilypaw since she actually listened to him and didn't mind his presence. He wouldn't call her a friend, though. He didn't have any friends. "Fine. Whatever. But if you're going to tag along, you're going to have actually catch something. I don't need the humiliation of my patrol returning with nothing."

"Yes, yes, we'll finish this up." Spiderfang grunted, though she took the bramble without a fuss, lifting up on her hind paws again to efficiently weave them into the den. She snorted. "This'll be the best exercise I get until my litter finally becomes paws. Last time I get in that nursery too. It's stifling, I miss sparring." She grumbled.
"I hear you loud and clearly." Lilypaw chortled. "Ratmask's taught me plenty of techniques to make the best out of situations like these. If we can bring back at least one piece of prey each, that'll have to be worth something, right?" She inquired, before she peered around the territory with a frown, hating the way it looked. How dark and gritty and torn apart everything looked.

"Better the nursery than the elders' den." Ratmask huffed, still bitter about the time Cedarstar and Northstar locked him up in the Elder's den for all of last leaf-bare.
"I'd prefer if we each brought something back." Houndthroat flicked his ear and nodded to Littlemoon when they exited the camp. He picked up his pace, heading in the direction of the Burnt Sycamore.
