Pinefeather stood and headed over. She almost knew, sadness and dread creeping over her. She looked at Northstar's unmoving body and flattened her ears.
Oakstalk looked up from next to Ribbondance. What was going on?
Flintclaw padded over and sat next to Kestrelgaze and Stonesong. What happened? Was was Northstar laying unmoving. Oh Starclan she couldn't be dead..

Falcontalon gave the deputy an encouraging nod before backing up slightly and taking a seat.
Starrylight peaked her head out of the nursery curiously at the sound of her mate's voice, gathering her kits close she padded out of the nursery and settled.
Mouseclaw sat near his sister holding Rustlekit and Spottedkit in place with his tail.
Ribbondance purred, about to reply but was cut off by Cedarstorm's announcement, her ears flattened in concern.
The rest of my cats gathered.

Shortcloud padded over, feeling her pelt grow cold inside. Something was wrong.
Cinderspeck pushed a branch in before turning to Cedarstorm, doing a double take. Cedarstorm's calling the Clan?

“No...” Lynxdapple choked, stumbling up to Northstar’s body and gazing upon her. Goldberry was choked with emotion and loss at his side. Sliderfang dipped her head low in deep respect.
My cats gathered, one by one, to see the lost leader.

Cloudscar and Stormfury had been sharing prey together, both toms glancing at each other in confusion when Cedarstorm called the clan together. They stood and padded together.
Sandflower, Hollypaw and Oakpaw padded forward, confused.

Raggedthorn wheezed lightly, finding a sliver of strength enough to hobble from the elder’s den. Snow flecked his black pelt, and he gazed tiredly at the surrounding cats. Eyes dull with age, he peered at the figure everyone was seeing. A sense of heaviness filled him, and he knew in his heart that something had changed this night. He took a shaky breath.

"Northstar, she's..." Cedarstorm stared into every eye, his ears falling back at the realization that every gaze was focused on him. He swallowed, but his throat had gone dry. He looked over at Northstar's body, his legs trembling. When he spoke again, his voice faltered. He had to clear his throat. "Northstar is dead."
Closesky continued to lay by the leader, resting his head against her with his heart breaking.
Ashrock's jaw slowly fell open at his brother's announcement. He looked over at the ShadowClan leader. No. This couldn't be happening now.
Scorchfire flattened his ears, looking over at the body of the ShadowClan leader. He glanced at Cliffheart beside him, before hanging his head.
Cliffheart stared in disbelief. Northstar couldn't be dead. She had given up a life for his sake, he was going to return the favor. She's done so much for me. He turned his gaze to the ground. I never got to repay her...
Kinkfire grew still at her brother's announcement. She turned her gaze to the ground, refusing to look at the ShadowClan leader and steeling herself of the sorrow that washed her heart.
"StarClan, no..." Russetshade pressed against her mate, her ears fallening back in sorrow. Rowankit sat at his mother's paws, blinking up at Cedarstorm in quiet confusion and sorrow.
Littlemoon gasped at Cedarstorm's announcement, looking sharply over at their leader's body with tears welling in her eyes. "No..."
Eaglesight and Smokestorm exchanged a look of shock. The two brother lowered their heads in sorrow, each knowing that they owed Northstar their lives for welcoming their father into the Clan.
Frogleap pressed against Holllowpool, shaking his head in denial.
Ratmask flattened his ears, he still sat by the elder's den, shivering against the bitter cold. Though his expression was stone cold, he grieved for the leader, always having admired her. She gave him chances that no other cat would.
Houndthroat grit his teeth, lashing his tail against the news. He sat down right where he was and pointedly looked away from everything.
Tumblepaw flattened his ears at the news and looked over at Goldberry. Northstar had come rescued them from the dog in the twoleggedplace. What would the Clan do without her?
Palekit and Whorlkit were pressed against their mother, wide eyes staring over at the ShadowClan leader.

Starrylight let out a small wail as she laid eyes on the still body of her mentor, tearing her eyes away to look back at her mate, grief washing over her.
Falcontalon kept his head down, unable to look at the leader's form.
Cherryvine whimpered pressing close to Stormfury
Ribbondance gasped, "no... she can't be."
Mouseclaw let out a small growl "Starclan.. how could you."
Oceanstorm looked up at the sky with sad eyes, "Welcome her well." she mewed softly.

Leaffrost curled tightly around herself, her paws coming up to pull harshly at her fur. No sadness came from her, but a brutal sense of confusion and unfairness filled her.
“Oh Northstar...” Goldberry whispered, a guttural fear filling him. If she was gone, would he be chased out again? Would the clan turn against him again? He looked at his mate and kits, misery in his heart. Lynxdapple’s breathing hitched with each inhale, and the tiny silver warrior greived.
Burningpaw crouched low, pressed to Tumblepaw with misery as Lilypaw bowed her head. Even Honeypaw was shocked, and the golden tom cowered with deep sadness.
Lionscorch lashed his tail, eyes blazing with greif, and Talltalon hung his head in deep respect. Viperpool prayed silently to Starclan.
Snakesong and Brittlefoot pressed close to eachother for comfort, and Cardinalblaze could only stare at Cedarstorm with wide, heartbroken eyes.

Flintclaw pressed close to Russetshade. "Oh Starclan.." he whispered. Northstar was gone? How could this be happening. Why now.
Strikekit buried his face into Flintclaw's legs. He didn't like this at all.
Pinefeather bowed her head in sorry. Northstar had been a great and noble leader. She deserved rest but what would they do without her.
Oakstalk pressed against Ribbondance, his head bowed. Sadness coursed through him.
Stonesong pressed to her brother. This was horrible news. Kestrelgaze watched With sad eyes.
Hollowpool stayed close to Frogleap, eyes sad. She let out a meow of grief.
Ferretclaw shook his head in sadness. This was unexpected.

((I have to go, so this is probably going to be my one big post))
Cloudscar's eyes widened at Cedarstorm's announcement, and he turned to look at Northstar's body. He owed everything to the ShadowClan leader. It would have been so easy for Northstar to kick him out of the clan after he fell in love with Swallowfeather, but she hadn't. Even after he let her down again by having Fireblaze and Goldheart she had been merciful and let him stay....and now....He stumbled slightly, trying to process the information, and found himself pressing into Stormfury. Stormfury...It had been the greatest joy of his life with Northstar had let Stormfury stay in the clan. Finally his heart had been able to slightly mend as his family and his clan were, at least somewhat, one. I never thanked her he thought bitterly. All she did for me and I never thanked her...and now... He trembled slightly.
Stormfury pressed against his father, helping support him, but internally he felt like crumbling himself. He thought back to the walk he and Northstar had shared only a few sunrises ago...or at least that's what it felt like. She had always felt so....timeless. Even when he had approached her, concerned about her age, Stormfury doubted that he had really meant it. Of all the cats in ShadowClan, only Northstar and Cloudscar had never given up on him, and frankly.....he didn't deserve either of them. He thought back to his first few days in the clan, how useless he had been. Northstar had given him chance after chance to improve....almost like he had been her son and not the half-clan rabbit chaser that he was. He glanced at the leader's body sorrowfully, realizing that there truly had never been another leader like Northstar, and probably never would be.

Snowdance bowed her head sadly, heart clenching in grief as she looked at Northstar’s still body. She knew there was nothing she could of done to help her with this.
Icefire pressed against Scorchfire, sadness in her eyes.
Redspark watched in grief beside Bumbleskip, what will they do now?

"Ah..." Cedarstorm glanced over at Falcontalon, flicking his ear in his evident uncertainty. "We'll...we will hold vigil for Northstar tonight." The deputy looked back over at the Clan, fully aware that he couldn't hide his fear from them. He looked up at the sky, the stars twinkling down upon them like raindrops. StarClan, why did you take her? We're not ready....
Closesky slowly stood up, his heart hollowed in his grief. It had been a while since the elders had to bury a clanmate, it was going to be hard to bury Northstar. I swore to protect her... He swallowed down his sorrow, closing his eyes tight. And I have to bury her! The elder trembled, nudging the star-printed she-cat as if that would wake her up. Cruse you, StarClan!

Shadedpine went rigid, her own being in disbelief at the announcement. "No... she can't be." If it wasn't for her, my mother would have been forced to leave the clan because of having the kits of a rouge. If not for her, I would have broken so long ago. Her mind blanked as the she-cat stood and padded over to Closesky where he still sat nestled y the former leader. "No." Sure enough, her body was still, no sign of life throughout her body, just like that day when they had found her brother in the forest, dead. Her heart clenched and she sat down, leaning her head over as she pressed her muzzle into the fur on the she-cat's head.

Cedarstorm took a step back, looking from Oakstalk to Cardinalblaze then Falcontalon with his ears flattened back. The Moonstone. Nine lives. ShadowClan's new leader...it was him. Right. He had to go... Cedarstorm looked over at Northstar's body and the cats that were gathering around it. He had to lead them now. Cedarstorm's heart skipped a face faster. No, I'm not ready. But he didn't have a choice. He was still deputy...thanks to Stormfury. Cedarstorm nervously scraped lines in the ground with claws, partly wishing that Ashrock had gotten away with his scheme. "Right..." He looked at Snowdance, swallowing down a lump of anxious. "I guess...we should go now..."

Starrylight, rushed forward towards her mate, pressing her nose to his "Go safely my love." she murmured softly.

Cedarstorm pressed gratefully against his mate, his heart beating a thousand miles an hour. He spoke softly to her with a shaky breath. "I'll come back to you, I promise."
Closesky and Scorchfire moved Northstar's body to the center of camp that the Clan could start the vigil.

Starrylight nodded smiling softly at him "I know you will." she replied before returning to her kits, She nudged them towards the middle of camp softly, "Come my little ones, we must say goodbye to Northstar."
Duskkit looked between her parents with wide eyes but followed her mother quietly.
Falcontalon laid down near Northstar's head, leaving room for Closesky.
the rest of my cats joined the vigil silently.

Shadedpine followed them as they moved the body, her eyes dark with grief. As they set her down, the she-cat sat by her head once more and set her muzzle back into the fur on the she-cat's head. "Thank you for helping my mother Northstar. Sorry I didn't do more for the clan during the time you were alive."

Spiderfang led Rustlekit towards the fallen leader, and looked for Mouseclaw to show Spottedkit. She was grateful Rustlekit was blind, to not have to see her leader’s body. She still needed her kits to understand this part of life. She guided Rustlekit’s paws to the leader’s still body and mewed out, quietly, thickly.
“This is death, Rustlekit. No breath. No lift of a pelt. This is what it feels like, when we go to Starclan.”
“...Cold. She feels cold, mother.” Rustlekit breathed softly, blind yet so understanding all at once. Spiderfang dipped her head lightly.

Closesky laid vigil right next to Falcontalon, his nose pressed into her fur.
Palekit and Whorlkit looked up at their mother with wide eyes. Whorlkit followed, but Palekit was a little slower, watching their father leave the camp.
Cedarstorm followed after Snowstorm, but paused at the camp entrance to watch the Clan gather around Northstar. He flattened his ears, doubt stirring in his heart. How could lead these cats like she had? Ashrock was even watching him with narrow and doubtful eyes. Cedarstorm turned his gaze toward the ground and followed after Snowdance. When the quiet of the territory surrounded them, he felt the shadows themselves were mourning. "I can't believe she's gone."

Oakstalk moved forward to touch his nose to Northstar's pelt. He would miss her fierceness and dedication to the clan. He closed his eyes a moment.
Flintclaw looked at Russetshade. "I hope Cedarstorm turns out to be a good leader. It's hard to walk in the paw steps of Northstar."
