OOC: Do you ever feel self conscious about your art because it isn't hip and digital like most? I do. Also, let's talk about the struggles and perks of traditional art.

Oh, totally. I tried picking up digital art one time, but it just wasn't going to happen. My digital art looks like something a two year old might doodle in ms paint.
A pencil and paper is just so much easier for me. I may sound whiny when I say this, but I feel like what people can do with pencil is being under appreciated because of what people are doing with special effects and computers. Like, it's awesome how cool that stuff looks, but now I feel like my art is just that much worse.

However I'm actually pretty proud of my traditional stuff but I constantly feel like it's inferior because it isn't digital.

I've done line art for my friends who do digital stuff, and has them pretty much colour over it and shade it. I have a werird, very stylized look to my art. Like, you take one look at it and you think 'okay, yeah, Rust drew that'. I mostly do faces/portraits, and it's pretty much all I can do well.
Traditional art priblems, though? I'd have to say the worst is the ol' pencil lead all over the side of the hand and down the arm. Apparenly they make special gloves for that, but they're super expensive.

OOC: Yeah I have been thinking of doing that with my art too, since I mostly just draw sketches anyways.
Dude I know right? Or like when you go to erase the pencil and the ink from the pen spreads everywhere and it basically ruins the drawing.

I've been working on my shading. Just when i thought I had it down I realized holy crap, nope.
Oh, that always gets me. I've lost wonderul drawings to the ink bleeds and horrible accidents, like when somebody flipped my perfect drawing of a wolf over and wrote something on the back. IT BLED THOUGH and man I am still salty about it.
Heck, another bad one is when THAT ONE GUY bumps the table just as you are doing the inking, leaving a jagged, uneaven black line and it's ruined forever.

digital artist here, i love the look of traditional art but replicating it on the computer is tedious or sometimes close to impossible and actually doing traditional art is hard since im used to having an undo button

*crashes through window* did someone say art
traditional art problem for me is when you go over the picture with a black penand then it smudges or your hand wobbles too much

I would post a few things, but the problem is I still haven't figured out how to get pictures on this place. I'm too lazy to actually figure out how Imgur works, because I don't want that art to be public.

I don't have a scanner. Thus, I don't have it on my computer, and really can't get it there.

Also sure, I'll post some of my traditional artwork, gimme a minute to choose which ones though.

I don't have many struggles in this area because I do both traditional and digital. Just another type of medium to conquer! Here's a simple color pencil drawing I did recently.

i kid you not when I say I rolled out of bed one morning, decided I wanted to try drawing portraits, and discovered my talent for it. i'm really atrocious at animals and landscapes though. cannot draw anatomical animals to save my lIFE
i'd always had an eye for three-dimensional drawing, though. i taught myself how to shade when i was pretty young (maybe 5th grade?), even though I didn't quite understand what i was learning. i just knew doing this thing made the picture looked cooler, so i kept doing it. practiced with simple geometric shapes (cubes, spheres, etc).
but what you see here came from practice. when you put a lot of detail and effort into a drawing, you spend get a lot of experience from just one work. My skill grew exponentially with each portrait i did: this was my fourth. there's a huge difference between this one and the first.

i can't do digital art my hands shake
but my problem w/ traditional art is that i only use mechanical pencils and if i had a dollar for every time that pencil led snapped i would be rich as hell like i press down so hard and end up breaking all my pencils. im literally out of pencils from a pack of like, 40 from a few weeks ago smh
