"Famous?" Nightheart snorted. He hardly considered his stories worth listening to, much less famous. But perhaps the rest of the clan had a different opinion of them then he did. He shivered as a breeze drifted into the den and cut into him. He really wasn't used to the cold anymore. Another problem with being old, he supposed. He settled back down into his nest and started racking his brain to try to think of any story that might keep the two occupied.

Fawnpaw smiled and tilted her head briefly to watch Whiteclaw slip from the den before returning to her task. She blinked, narrowing her eyes to seek out any lingering ticks hidden in Nightheart's dark fur—but, as best she could judge, the last of the intruders had finally fallen prey to the clan cats' pungent attack. "All clear on this side, too," Fawnpaw purred, not quite stifling a sigh of relief as she practically lunged from the den to gulp down a bit of fresh air, suddenly grateful for the crisp breeze snaking through camp. Twitching an ear sheepishly at her rather—enthusiastic exit, she turned her focus back to Nightheart as she shuffled over to a nearby pool of rainwater just large enough to dampen her paws. "Tell us something ancient—something that even Whiteclaw won't remember," she teased, shooting a playful glance at the gruff tom across the way. "Nightheart, what was Sparrowclan like when you were a kit?"

Nightheart paused for a moment, trying to figure out how he should break the news to Fawnpaw. "I... Well, I guess you haven't heard from your mentor yet," he sighed, flicking his tail at the ground to imply that she should mke herself comfortable when she was done cleaning off her paws. "I actually wasn't born in Sparrowclan. I came here with my mate before Bramblepath was born," he said, thinking back to his first days in the clan. "It wasn't that long after Whitecalw was born, so I don't expect him to really remember it. The clan was... Well, it was pretty much the same back then as it is today. The only thing that has changed is the faces of the cats inside the clan."

Whiteclaw had found a small puddle quite close to the elders' den, by the edge of the camp, and washed his paws thoroughly. He picked up Nightheart and Fawnpaw talking and turned around, catching Fawnpaw's statement and shooting the young she-cat a glare in jest. "Started without me, I see," he pretended to scowl, and sat down next to Fawnpaw, his yellow eyes trained warmly on Nightheart as he spoke. He reached out with a large paw and gave Fawnpaw a gentle cuff over the ear, making sure his claws were sheathed. "I'm not old yet," he retorted with a snort of laughter. He thought for a moment, wondering whether or not he did remember Nightheart's arrival to the Clan. "I think perhaps my mother told me about it when I was a little older," he recalled, "I do vaguely remember the initial announcement, though." He settled down further, tucking his forepaws under his chest.

Nightheart nodded. "It was a little unnerving, entering another clan. It took a while for the two of us to be fully accepted among the warriors, and quite a few of the apprentices. If I remember correctly, it wasn't until after you became a warrior that the clan finally decided that we were fine to stay," he said, flicking his tail at Whiteclaw. "I don't think that you ever really cared about where we were from, as long as we were capable."

Fawnpaw squealed and twisted away from Whiteclaw's gentle cuff across the ears, but Nightheart's words kept the young she-cat too intrigued to garner up a worthy retort. She gazed curiously at him, missing most of her pair of companions' more solemn words in the process, as if watching for long enough might reveal some outward sign of his superior worldliness. Still—though she was certainly a bit oblivious to the negative signals that her gawking might communicate—the sentiment behind her expression was wholly admiring. "You've lived outside of the clan?" She purred. "That's incredible! I haven't even been allowed past the borders!"

Nightheart smiled at the apprentice, sorting through his memories for what to say next. After a few seconds, he gathered a clump of them and started speaking again. "It's a good thing you haven't gone past the borders. While it's not exactly dangerous as long as your careful, there are still rogues and badgers out there that can harm you, and you don't have the clan to back you up when you need them to." Nightheart paused for a moment, then continued. "Well, thats not saying that there isn't some beautiful scenery out beyond the border. I once found a massive fir tree that overlooked a canyon. The view was so amazing I almost fell out of the tree."

"Yes, I do remember that, actually. I admired you," Whiteclaw remembered fondly, purring at the elderly tom, "I remember I got into an argument with a couple of the older warriors." He couldn't imagine ever living outside of SparrowClan; he'd always lived with his Clanmates, knowing he would become a warrior. Not having the Clan and not having that purpose...the thought disturbed Whiteclaw, and the fact that everything out there was so dangerous made him think he would ever be brave enough to stick it out on his own. For that he really did admire Nightheart. He widened his eyes in an almost kit-like manner as Nightheart spoke about the fir tree and the canyon. "I'd like to venture outside of Clan territory one day," he admitted, curling his tail around himself, "there's so much more of the world beyond our borders that cats have never even seen before."

( hollyfrost No worries! Glad that you're back! ^-^) Fawnpaw hummed her agreement and let her head tilt slightly to one side as she considered Whiteclaw's words. "Me too. It just seems like there could be anything out there..." A wistful note entered the young she-cat's voice—and, before she knew it, she found her gaze trailing out of the elders' den, to the space beyond the camp entrance. Far beyond the familiar trees, the rolling hills, and even the dens of the rogues forever testing their borders lay a land where nobody had ever heard of Sparrowclan. The thought was—unsettling; nevertheless, there was a certain mystery to it, too. "I think I'd like to know that I had a clan to come back to when I went out exploring, though," Fawnpaw added thoughtfully.

Whiteclaw nodded in agreement, matching the young apprentice's wistful tone as he spoke. "It must be beautiful out there," he murmured, half to himself. The white tom had never been much of an explorer-even as an apprentice he had never once strayed beyond the SparrowClan borders, or sneaked out of camp when he wasn't supposed to. He'd lacked the adventurous spirit that his denmates had possessed in multitudes, which might have been what triggered the rise of his reputation as the Clan's resident grump. He flexed his claws thoughtfully, still staring at nothing as he lost himself in thought. What wonders lay beyond the SparrowClan borders? Would he ever live to see them?

"You're right, there is beauty outside the borders. The problem is, there so much that isn't beautiful out there that its hard to find the beauty. You would have to travel for days on end to find one beautiful spot, and by that point it would hardly be worth it," Nightheart said. He paused for a second before saying. "Of course, I do remember a spot relatively close to the territory that provides an amazing view of a river. Maybe when the two of you have recovered I can take you out to see it. It would help quench the bordom."

Fawnpaw felt her excitement deflate slightly at Nightheart's warning. Yes, something inside of her ached to explore beyond the edge of the territory, but she could hardly keep herself from injury inside of the clan's borders; venturing beyond them would take some careful planning and a heap of good sense that she didn't yet consistently posess. Nevertheless, this whisp of rationality was quickly brushed away as she registered Nightheart's next offer. "Definitely," she purred eagerly, feeling her tawny ears perk up again. "Would you really take us there? I can't wait! How did you find it?"

Whiteclaw blinked in surprise. His duties lay with the Clan, and he would never dream of pushing his responsibilities as a SparrowClan warrior aside, the promise of adventure was tempting to him. "I'd love to go and see it," he murmured, a wistful look in his eyes, "all I've ever known is the Clan, I'd like to see what the rest of the world is like." He turned to Nightheart again, waiting for the elderly tom to speak with a newfound enthusiastic anticipation.

"Well, I would say that it would take about a quarter of a day to get there and back, not including the time we spend there, so we shouldn't worry the clan to much if we go. Plus it will show you what it's like to be outside of the clan borders," Nightheart said thoughfully, glancing back and forth between the two visitors to his den. "Are you sure that you want to go? We might get in trouble."

Whiteclaw frowned. He cast a wary glance at Fawnpaw, very much aware of the state of her injury and their confinement to the camp as ordered by Bramblepath. "Fawnpaw's leg," he began, looking back at Nightheart, "Bramblepath instructed her to rest as much as possible until the wound was healed." His own injury was nothing - a thorn in his pad had never stopped him before - and he doubted it would impact his ability to travel very much, but he was worried about the young she-cat; if she was to worsen her injury somehow on the way there or the way back, what would they do?

Lionpaw gave Tumblepaw a reassuring flick across the shoulders with his tail. He could see the young tom's apprehension plain as day. Was he scared that he'd laugh at him? Or that he would simply fail in front of his clanmates? "You'll be fine," he muttered with a quick smile.

"Well, I guess we aren't going anytime soon then," Nightheart chuckled. I wouldn't want to intentionally disobey the medicine cat, not would I? Still, it will be nice to show someone else the spot before I go. That way it's not lost along with every other scrap of knowledge I possess."

"Oh, that settles it; we have to go," Fawnpaw whined, crestfallen at the thought of missing out on what was quite possibly the greatest adventure that she had ever engaged in. "As soon as my paw heals! I'd go right now...but Whiteclaw is probably right," she added soberly, glancing from the pair of toms to her bandaged leg—which had settled itself to a dull consistent aching that she could almost banish from her mind when she sat just right—and back again. "We'll want all three of us as full strength for the trek; who knows what we might meet out there?" Despite the warning in her words, the young she-cat couldn't keep a glimmer of excitement from her face at the prospect.

Nightheart chuckled. "I doubt we would meet anything or anyone out there that would cause serious damage, but you never know right? Plus it would be you two doing most of the work. I might be quite a bit younger than Tawnybird, but that doesn't mean I'm young," he said, "My 'full strength' is probably about half the strength of the weakest apprentice... If there even is a weakest apprentice among the lot we have." Nightheart leaned back with a sigh. "Heck, I might be to old to even make it all the way there. If the cold is affecting me this much, then why would a short walk not entirely drain my strength? It's a miracle that I was in good enough condition to help even a little in the battle..." Nightheart cut himself off as he remembered that Fawnpaw's mother had died in the battle against the rogues. She might have recovered, or she might not have. He was careful with the subject around her and her siblings.

A shadow of grief flirted across Fawnpaw’s expression at the mention of the battle. Her stomach gave a tug, but she shoved the feeling away firmly and drew her best attempt at a smile to her face. “You fought nobly in the battle,” she replied firmly. “The entire clan was grateful for your help; I remember.” Realizing with a twinge of guilt the grimness that had fallen into her tone, the young she-cat did her best to gather back the cheer that she had banished from the den. “So—anyway, I’m sure you’ll be able to make it to there with no trouble!”

Brought to solemnity by the somber tone in the den, Whiteclaw glanced between Fawnpaw and Nightheart. He too remembered the battle, and understood that it was a sensitive topic for Fawnpaw after what happened to her mother. The white tom reached out with his tail to touch Fawnpaw's flank reassuringly. "I have no doubt you'd manage without any trouble, Nightheart," Whiteclaw told the elder, "Tawnybird would tear our heads off if we ever implied that she wouldn't be able to make a journey like that, so I'm glad she's not here right now," he chuckled.

"You're right, it is a good thing that she isn't here. Of course, she could make the journey if she wanted to. She is more stubborn than half the clan put together," Nightheart said with a short laugh. He glanced toward the entrance, half hoping that Tawnybird wasn't lurking around the corner, and half thinking through the journey that he had just signed himself up for. He sighed for a second, thinking of what hsi son would say to him leaving the camp in his current state. Then he shook off the thoughts and decided that it would be worth it regardless. Better than sitting in camp doing nothing worth while.

Fawnpaw chuckled at the older toms’ comments and finally managed to muster up a stroke of genuine cheer. “Well, it’s settled, then,” she declared enthusiastically. “As soon as I can walk again without hobbling all over camp, we’re going on an adventure!” The she-cat sat back on her haunches, beginning a mental run-through of all that they would need to prepare for the trip. They could hunt on the way, so cargo would be relatively light—if they needed to bring anything at all. “How did you first find this place?” She asked Nightheart.

(Hollyfrost, it's fine, we all have days like that.)
"It was about a day before I joined Sparrowclan. My mate and I were looking for a good place to rest for the night, and then we stumbled across the place. Heck, she liked it so much we almost called it quits on finding another clan and just lived there for the rest of our life. It's a good thing we didn't though, I sure am glad that we found Sparrowclan," Nightheart said, leaning back and reminiscing. (Totally spelled that right xD)

Fawnpaw chuckled. "Well, it must be really beautiful, then. And we're glad you found us, too," she added sweetly. Nonetheless, the assertion was true; Nightheart had always been a valuable asset to Sparrowclan—and, perhaps more importantly, a friendly face to all. After a moment of consideration, the tawny she-cat let her gaze trail thoughtfully to a corner of the den. "I don't remember your mate," she ventured, hoping that she wasn't striking a nerve. "But I've heard good things. What was she like?"
