"Not bad. It's always nice to get an early start," Firestrike replied, shifting his paws as if to sit down before thinking better of it and remaining on his feet. In reality, if given the choice, the tom would gladly sleep until noon and resented few things more than his rotation on the dawn patrol. Still, training with Goldenkit was bringing energy to his sleepy limbs despite the hour and the gray sky still half-concealed by darkness. "How are you?" He added.
(No worries!)
"Pretty well!" Sootstripe replied, lighting up at the mention of his apprentice. "It's only been a moon, but Cloudpaw is coming along really well. The rest of you should watch out: she's going to be the best warrior in the clan soon. Well, second best," he added with a smirk that readily revealed the teasing behind his grand claim.

Duskstorm smiled at Sootstripe's comment. "Oh, I'll definitely watch out. She seems to be doing great from what I've noticed. She looked around at Leafpelt, Dovesong, Mistyfur, and Sootstripe all gathered in a group with her. Duskstorm then realized that there should be a morning patrol going out. "Did anyone go out on a morning patrol? I feel like we were all the first ones up... Maybe we should go?" She asked, waiting for her clanmates to reply.

A smirk spread across Sootstripe's face at Mistyfur's comment. "Wow, someone's cheerful in the morning! Iโ" he began before the sound of Dovesong's voice pulled his attention away. "Hello!" He purred, waving his tail cheerily at the she-cat. "hello" her soft and Tiny voice call out. Her eyes sparkling with delight today. (Sorry for the inactive) |

Sootstripe fought a yawn that threatened to split his jaws. He blinked rapidly, doing his best to clear the remaining bleariness from his eyes. "A patrol sounds like a great idea," he replied, glancing at his gathered clanmates for confirmation. "It'll be nice to get moving."
"Any extra sleep seems like a victory to meโespecially for you," Firestrike commented with a wry smile. He tilted his chin up proudly, puffing out his chest slightly as a smirk played across his muzzle. "I'm happy to step in and help, even if it did require a noble sacrifice of sleep on my part."

"Your noble sacrifice was very much appreciated." Moonshadow purred with a flick of her tail. She looked around for the aforementioned kit but couldn't find her. "Goldenkit?" She meowed, her voice echoing with worry, unaware that her daughter had slipped into the nursery to let her be alone with Firestrike.

Firestrikeโs eyes narrowed with concern. โGoldenkit?โ He called, peering around. He tilted his head at Moonshadow. โDid you see where she went?โ
Sootstripe stifled the purr that rose from his chest at the thought of a patrol with Mistyfur. โGood,โ he replied instead, his ears twitching slightly with embarrassment, though he hoped that no one would notice. โWhich border should we start with?โ He asked the group.

Mistyfur was to busy forcing down her own purr to notice Sootstripe's. When she heard his question, she forgot all about it and started racking her brain for an answer. Finally, she replied, almost to quiet to hear. "Maybe along the area where we were having problems with the rogues?" She suggested. She doubted that anyone had heard her, considering how quiet it had been. What's up with me? She thought to herself. I'm never that quiet.

"I didn't." Moonshadow meowed worriedly. She leaned her nose to the ground to pick up the kit's scent. Realizing that her scent trail led to the nursery, the queen relaxed. "She went to the nursery." She murmured.

Duskstripe thought for a moment at Sootstripe's question and then a little peep came from beside her. Mistyfur stood there, looking down at her paws like she was nervous. "What was that, Mistyfur?" she asked her, nudging her shoulder. Without anyone else able to hear, she whispered, "Don't be nervous, speak a little louder." โGreat idea!โ Sootstripe replied, somehow remaining completely oblivious to the she-catsโ exchange. He dipped his head to Mistyfur with a playful smirk. โLead the way.โ
A weight lifted off of Firestrikeโs chest as he, too, picked up Goldenkitโs scent trail. โRunning back to the nursery already,โ the tom commented wryly, his eyes glittering. โI didnโt realize that I was that bad of a teacher.โ

"You're the one who pitched the idea." Mistyfur purred. "Shouldn't you be the one leading?" She asked. She still didn't quite understand why her clanmates kept saying that Sootstripe was head over tail for her, but even if he was, she doubted that she would notice, as dull in romantic situations as she was.

Mistyfur shot a glance Leafpelt's way, trying to tell if she was trying to help her or playfully mess with her. "But it was his idea." She playfully argued.

"Well, technically, it was Duskstorm's idea," Sootstripe replied, his greenish eyes glittering. "But I'll step up and take us home if someone else takes the lead to the border. Between exhaustion and, well, meโ" His whiskers twitched with amusementโ"We'd get so turned around that we'd never make it there in the first place."
Firestrike glanced at the group of cats gathered into a loose band at the opposite end of camp, then back at Moonshadow. Though he could make out what was likely the beginnings of the dawn patrol, his paws felt rooted in place. "I took my shift on the dawn patrol yesterday," he remarked instead, blinking against the sting of sleepiness lingering in his eyes. Maybe that's why I can't bring myself to go. "I have at last a little while before my duties begin for the day."

"Get some more rest then." Moonshadow murmured, noticing his tired expression. "I'm sure Goldenkit can wait to train with you more until later." The dark furred queen looked up at him, still doing her best to hide her own feelings.

Firestrike smiled wearily. "All rightโbut only if you promise to do the same," he teased, though the advice was honest. He flicked his tail in farewell and gathered himself to his paws. "See you sometime later today, I hope."
"If I must," Sootstripe replied dramatically, doing his best to stifle the amused twitch of his mouth. Failing, he finally gave in and let a purr rumble up from his chest. "I'll take you up on that deal."

Moonshadow felt her ears heat up and nodded, "I'll try. And I'm sure you'll see me, I'm always here with all these kits running around all the time." She turned to head back to the nursery, her ears tucked as she now hid the nervous look in her eyes that gave away her true feelings for the tom. She glanced back over her shoulder to see if he'd also started back towards his den.

Duskstripe admired the mini conversation and love blooming between Mistyfur and Sootstripe for a minute. She let her small bit of jealousy that Mistyfur and Sootstripe have each other sink down and she soon forgets about her jealousy as she meows "Lead the way Mistyfur!"

Mistyfur pulled herself out of her thoughts and nodded. "Okay then." She felt like (despite the fact that she had just gone for a walk herself) she could easily run all the way to the border and back. She stopped for a fleeting moment to wonder where all her energy had come from, before shaking those thoughts aside and leading the way towards the entrance.

Duskstorm follows near the back of the group, alongside Leafpelt. She, too, started admiring the love between Mistyfur and Sootstripe. "They're so lucky to have each other... Duskstorm continued walking on, silent after Leafpelt's reply. She looked over at her again, and there was a break in the trees that made the light shine on her face just right. Leafpelt's green eyes so much more noticeable. Getting lost in thought and looking at her friend, she trips over a branch and stumbles forward, falling face-first into the dirt. "eheh... I meant to do that..." Duskstorm looks around, embarassed.
