"Li Li!" A high pitched voice called out across the second floor of the library. An echoing 'shhhh' came from the other annoyed people, but Liam just sighed and looked back up from his book. They had been working nearly an hour and Liam was feeling good about how it had been going. Two large hands covered his eyes and the same annoying voice asked, "Guess who?" Liam sighed, closing his eyes.
"Well, I'm gonna say it's not Sarah because her voice isn't that annoying. And only an idiot would do this. So, Jack?" He asked. The hands left his eyes and Jack Morgan, the school bad boy (at least, Jack liked to think he was a bad boy. He really wasn't), sat down in the seat next to Liam.
"Correct, Mr. 4.0," Jsck said, returning to his normal voice and using his nickname for Liam. He grabbed the book Liam had been using and flipped through it. "Ah, I remember this book. I didn't read it, just copied Liam's notes," he said, winking at Jade. "Anyway, c'mon. I came to pick you up cause I'm not waiting for you to walk your slow butt all the way to the park. Were waiting for you, man. And Sarah brought that cheerleader friend I like," Jack said, smirking. He knew that if Liam didn't show up soon, Sarah would have to leave. Surprisingly, her mom only trusted Liam. She thought the other guys in their group were bad influences, but her daughter's boyfriend was Mr. Perfect.
Liam, clearly annoyed, pinched his eyes shut. "Whatever, Jack. You know you don't need me as a wingman. But we've probably been here long enough. Jade has some other important things to do," Liam said. He didn't know if it was true, but Jack didn't either. And that's what mattered.
"Hey, I'll buy you ice cream if you come," Jack offered. Liam hated borrowing money from his friends, but he also hated missing out because he didn't want to spend his money. He didn't have much and saved nearly every cent for college.
"Alright," he finally admitted, standing up and slinging his backpack over one shoulder. "You cool?" He asked Jade as Jack walked away.

After Bri made sure they had grabbed everything and completely out out the fire, she threw a bag over her shoulder and held her flaming branch out in front of them as she led the way. She turned right, just like she had the first time, and continued walking. She ended up near the side of the cabin this time, but turned and went to the front. She tried the door handle, but it was locked. She didn't know how to pick a lock, so she told Kyle to take cover. After that, she grabbed a rock and chucked it at the window, ducking down to protect herself. "I didn't want to do that, but we can put a towel or something up over the hole. And leave the owners an apology letter," Bri said. She tossed her bag in through the whole in the window before using a rock to knock out some more glass on the bottom of the window. Satisfied that they could both fit without cutting themselves, Bri jumped through the window, landing on a couch underneath. She stuck her head out through the window and smiled at Kyle. "Come on in, but be careful of the glass," she said. The jump had made her ankle sore, but the girl ignored it. She needed to see what they had to work with and take a warm shower before she could go to bed for the night. Bri used her stick to find a light switch and turned it on, blinking as the lamp in the corner of the room turned on. "Yes!" She shouted, before heading to the kitchen and putting her flaming stick out. She put it in the sink and turned on the faucet, slightly disappointed when it didn't turn on. Digging around, she found a flashlight and went to go unlock the door. She went outside and walked around the building, discovering a water pump in the back of the cabin. It looked just like the one that Bri had at her cabin, so she turned it on and went back inside. This time when she turned in the faucet, a stream of water came out. It out out the fire effectively and Bri went back to find Kyle. "I'm gonna shower super quickly cause I got the water turned on. I promise I'll be quick so you can have a turn," Bri said. She went into the kitchen and grabbed a plastic bag and tape to put around the deep cut on her arm like she had when she showered after wrist surgery last year. The plastic bag had been effective for keeping her cast dry, so she figured she'd try it with her cut. Though she wanted to just stand under the stream of hot water, Bri was out in seven minutes. She dressed in the clothes that she had stolen from the bus, reminding her to look trough the bedrooms and see if she could find new clothes for her and Kyle. Find stuff that didn't belong to one of their classmates. Shaking her head and bringing herself back to reality, Bri pushed the thought of the bus and accident and their classmates from her brain. She found a brush and brushed her hair before heading back out of the bathroom. The hot, soothing water had calmed her down and bit and eased her soreness, but reality hit when she was out of it. They were still stuck out in the middle of the woods with no idea where to go or what to do. "If you wanna take a turn in the shower, I can start looking for stuff that may be useful," Bri offered, heading into the kitchen. Even though her hair was still wet, she put it in a ponytail, unable to deal with how hot it was making her. "I'm also gonna look for air conditioning and see if I can make it cooler. If not, I'm sure there's fans in here," she mumbled the last part, half to herself as she thought. Again, she was worrying if she was being too bossy. She didn't want Kyle to be angry or bitter if she took too much control. They needed to work as a team to survive this. Bri went I to the kitchen, digging through the drawers. She put anything she found to be useful on the table and by the time she was done, her list included a flashlight, matches, scissors, twine, a pocket knife, pain pills, water, and a screwdriver. And that was just from the kitchen. She wondered what else they could find, especially in the he bathrooms or garage. They could wait to check out the garage until later. The last thing they needed was to be attacked by a rabid raccoon in the middle of the night. Heading down the hall, Bri found the air conditioning. She looked at it, pressing a few buttons and turning a few dials before she heard it kick it. Apparently they did have running water and power here. That would just make it harder for them to leave. Bri began to wonder if it might be better to spend a day or two here before moving on. Yes, it would take longer for them to get home. But it would also make them better prepared and calmer when they set out for good. And that would give them a better survival chance, right? (Sorry, I just started writing and couldn't stop) (It's fine! I don't know if I'll be able to match that, but I'll do what I can ^^; ) Kyle nodded and followed behind her, taking care to avoid the glass. After what had happened with the bus, he was honestly tired of glass for the next year. He plopped down on the couch and relaxed for a second, enjoying the feeling of the soft, fluffy couch. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes, giving Bri a small wave of assent when he heard her talk about the shower. Now that he was finally resting, the fatigue of the day came back to hit him; his neck ached, his arm stung, and his body throbbed all over. Hopefully a warm, relaxing shower would clear away the tiredness. Although it was dark, there was still things that needed to be done, and he couldn't leave everything to Bri. He sat there for a little longer, enjoying the solitude of the darkness behind his eyes, until he heard the sound of running water from the bathroom, and he opened his eyes. He didn't bother unpacking anything. They didn't need it right now. Instead, he decided to look around the house. It was a lot smaller than it had looked from the outside. It consisted pretty much of the living room they had gotten in, the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and garage. He stopped by the bedroom. It was smaller than expected, with just a bed, mirror, and dresser. He paused by the mirror, taking a second to inspect his reflection. He realized for the first time just how tired, dirty, and bruised he looked from the accident, and made a mental note to clean up well in the shower. His next course of action was to look through the dresser. He knew it was wrong, but they had no choice if they were going to get clothes to last them through this. Most of the male clothes were too large for him, but he found a jacket that could serve as a poncho if needed and a spare pair of jeans. Deciding they would do, he grabbed them. He wasn't too sure what Bri wanted from the clothes selection, he decided to leave that to her when she got out of the shower. He had just returned to the living room and was about to head to the kitchen when Bri returned from the bathroom. He nodded readily when she told him she was going to look in the kitchen. "Alright, but don't overdo it." He agreed. He smiled reassuringly and put his hand on her shoulder for a second. "Don't stress yourself out by pushing yourself too hard. I'm here too. We can work this all out together." He told her, hoping it would help calm her nerves. He then headed to the bathroom after grabbing a change of clothes from one of the bags. The shower felt glorious after the long day, and Kyle let out a soft sigh as he leaned against the cold tile bathroom wall, relaxing. The hot water had washed away most of the fatigue, and now he just wanted nothing more than to eat something and then go to sleep for a bit. He quickly dried himself off and got dressed, and made his way back into the living room. "The shower was great." He said with a smile as he sat down on the couch. "Did you find anything in the way of food?" He asked curiously. Honestly, he'd be fine with anything at this point, and it was probably able to save the salvaged food for the trip anyway.

As the hour dragged on, Jade actually started to relax. As she listened to Liam talk, things pieces of information began to make sense. Every time he took a note, the girl wrote done her own notes. If it was important enough for him to write down, she figured she might as well do the same. Otherwise she would have to listen to him repeat it. For the most part, she stayed silent, content of letting Liam do all the talking, only speaking when he began to talk too fast or said something that needed extra explaining.
She didn't know how much time they had left when a voice called out from the first floor of the library. It was enough to make her lift her head to see who the voice belonged to. Li Li? When Jack came into view, her curiosity faded. She instantly knew what was going on. Jade had seen Jack around school many times, as well as seeing him with Liam. He tried to have a bad boy attitude, but as far as she knew, he was far from it. There was only one or two times she could remember actually having detention with the boy.
Her attention turned back to her notebook in front of her as the two boys talked. If she knew them better, the entire scene might have been amusing. Yet despite her attempts to ignore them, Jade lifted her gaze to look at them again, just in time to see Jack winking at her.
"Um, yeah, we've done enough," Jade replied after Liam had suggested ending the tutoring early. To be honest, she felt disappointment faintly growing in her chest. She didn't know why, though, since she hadn't even meant to stay as long as she did. Without waiting for him to say anything else, she began to pack up her things.
