Griffinfeather nodded, he was actually about to compliment her listening skills, but knew that his comment would go to her head. He needs to bring her down before she can go up. Griffinfeather stepped into the center of the clearing. The grass was short here, reaching to just below his knee, which would be around Sweetpaw's shoulder or slightly lower. He motioned her to sit in front of him, so they would face opposite directions. "What battle moves do you know Sweetpaw? I need to know where we are starting." Griffinfeather knew many battle moves, his muscles rippled underneath his pelt. The scars across his eyes forever reminded him of the Clan that did not fight for him. Because of that, the vision in his right eye was blurred slightly. The medicine cat had asked him before what he can see, and he lied by saying 'I can see everything just fine'. The weakness of WingClan angered him, they were too scared to defend Griffinfeather and now here he was, training two apprentices secretly, in hopes of killing the leader. In public.
*~*
Lavenderpaw opened her mouth to respond to Silverkit, but then slowly and hesitantly closed it again. She looked down at the grass below her paws, "I would love to Silverkit but umm..." it had not hit her until now that she had no clue what to say. She could not tell anyone about why she can't participate. She swore an oath by Griffinfeather not to tell another soul. That's not the only thing Lavenderpaw remembered though, she remebered that Griffinfeather made her push through the pain. He would not care if Lavenderpaw's leg had fallen off, he would make her 'run it off'. Lavenderpaw really hated him sometimes but knew that it was just for a little while. Lavenderpaw sighed, "I guess I can play with you." He happy attitude had left her, she knew her muscles will begin and scream for her to stop, but in Griffinfeather's book, there was no such thing as 'stop'. There was only 'go' and 'keep going'. He acted like her mentor every second of the day, always keeping a watchful yellow gaze on her, making sure she was doing things for the Clan, and then expecting her to come to practice during the night and middle of the day.

Sweetpaw shuffled eagerly in front of Griffinfeather and sat down. But her excitement and bouncey attitude, kept her twitching and she kept shifting on her paws and her tail flicked back and forth through the tail grass. Being her average height, standing up, the grass was at her shoulders, but sitting down, it went past her head. Sweetpaw thought for a moment before replying. "Well I don't know any air moves, Redhawk wanted to build up my strength on ground before moving to the air." She explained, but quickly jumped to her answer. "I can do the Leap-and-Hold REALLY well, because I'm not as big as Redhawk. I can do the Teeth Grip and Scruff shake, but not very well because I'm not very big or strong. The Dizzy Dance is my FAVORITE, and I like to think I'm pretty good at it. But I don't really know much else. We were starting to work on new moves a few days ago" Sweetpaw babbled on her explaination with a cheery grin.
Patchfoot looked up a Whitewillow and smiled slightly, "I'm alright. A bit tired from staying out a bit late last night. You?"

Griffinfeather wanted to make sure Sweetpaw knew her place when it came to battles. Of course, he would not fight with her, that would be beyond unfair. Griffinfeather was nearly two or three times her size. This was mostly because of the muscle he has and his height. When she finished speaking Griffinfeather shook his head in disappointment. What were they teaching apprentices now? Oh wait, nothing. He wanted to claw her mentor; apprentices should be training better than this, and she should have known at least two more moves by now. They were behind the schedule he started at. Griffinfeather figured they would have to train either for longer periods of time, or more frequently. "How come so few battle moves have been taught? We need to start from square one now. All the moves, or should I say the move, you have down will be practiced here. And you will perfect them, making your movements lighter, faster, stronger, and more deadly. Do I make myself clear?" The seriousness in his voice was not only evident in his voice, but in his sharp yellow eyes. His eyes seemed to peirce through the soul of others, they seemed to watch your every move and read your every thought. As if he was a medicine cat, and the others were the plants he had to experiment with, and study. They did that now to Sweetpaw. He tried to study her body language, and she was easy to read. He had to make sure he gets his ideas into her head, and his ideas only. During, before, and after practice she must understand the true meaning of Clan life. And Griffinfeather would teach her. No, brainwash was a better word for it. Not that he liked to say it that way, but in reality, it was quite close.

Sweetpaw listened with wide-eyes. The seriousness of the situation and his attitude was hard for her to grasp. She tried to quiet and make herself serious, but she simply couldn't. Her excitement was uncontainable. Perhaps it was just her personality. But she wanted to leap around and tell everyone that she was going to be the greatest warrior the clan had ever seen. But she also knew secrets were important and Griffinfeather trusted her. It was a challenge to keep herself quiet, but she always liked challenges. Sweetpaw grinned under his sharp gaze, but she tried to stop showing her own excitement. She didn't want to disappoint him. She managed to pull her grin away, but her feet continued to shuffle with excitement and her tail flung from side-to-side. "Very clear Griffinfeather" She squeaked cheerily. Her eyes danced with all the bubbly happy feelings inside her. "When can we start Griffinfeather? I want to be strong and fast! I want to be the greatest warrior the clan will ever know!" Sweetpaw said enthusiactically.

Griffinfeather held back a smile at her enthusiasm. Now was not the time for a cheery mood, they needed to train. And in battle, there is no happy moments. Excluding the feeling of brining one's enemies to their knees. Cruel yes, but all necessary. Griffinfeather feather stood and turned away from her, taking a couple paces back so they were a fox length or two away from each other. When he sat back down again he made sure she was focused, his words should be where she put every bit of attention. His words were vital to her success and his. "We don't 'start'. And never have. This will become clear later. But for now, tell me the warrior code. The proper one." Griffinfeather knew that Sweetpaw was not taught the proper warrior code. No one except for his family knew the proper warrior code. He knew what it took to be a warrior. It took strength. Four kinds to be exact: Physical, emotional, psychological, and social. These will get you through life and then some if you could master them all. Griffinfeather was still working on them himself, however, if there were levels for it and rankings, he would be near the top. He has experienced and seen many things, now he would share them. And to his benefit, as well as her's. But mostly his.

Sweetpaw watched him curiously as he walked away. But his words afterward, clearly confused her. The confusion even flashed across her features, staying there until he said it wouldn't become clear till later. Then she didn't have to worry about it until later. She continued to listen cheerfully and almost grinned again as he asked her for the warrior code. That was something she did know! Sweetpaw, eager to please him, began rambling off the code she'd learned since she was a kit. "1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory. Elders, Queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moon high. A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan. The word of the Clan leader is law. A honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet." She said confidently, hesitating only for a moment on the last one.

Griffinfeather kept himself from laughing as she went through the other warrior code. Ignorance at it's finest it what his no good father would have called it. However, in this instance, his father finally knew what he was talking about. Griffinfeather did smirk however, and shook his head again. That was the warrior code taught by the soft cats to pass it on to even softer warriors. Those codes must have come from kittypets for all they knew! Griffinfeather straightened his face again, "Wrong. All of it. Do you want to know the truth about that warrior code Sweetpaw?" Griffinfeather stood up from where he was sitting and began to pace the area around him. As he did so, he scored claw marks into the earth he stood on. The grass ripped up by the roots of where he clawed. It felt quite satisfying to him. "What I should also be asking is if you want to know the true warrior code. The pure one untouched by lies." Griffinfeather paused, in a way that would tease her curiosity. Although, she would not be aware of that. "But, I would not want to bore you. You wouldn't want to be a proper warrior right?" Griffinfeather had to admit it was slightly fun teasing her, but he knew he would end up telling her what code was taught to him as a young cat. The right one.

Breezepaw moped around camp, staying by the entrance of the apprentices' den. She felt oddly defeated and antisocial that day, but didn't want to admit it. Her wings drooped as she entered the den and sat down in her nest with a sigh of relief. Things were quite boring at the moment, and she felt like there was no need to talk or have a conversation with anyone. "Sunny..?" She asked herself, peeking back outside to check if the sun was out or not.

Bumblestar was beside the two cats in minutes, letting out a soft, but low warning, meow. "Griffinfeather, I SUGGEST you do not try and mentor apprentices who have not been appointed to you, as well as telling them that a code us cats have followed since the ancients is a lie." She then turned to Sweetpaw, a loud purr on her lips. "Go find Redhawk, young apprentice. I'm sure he will be PROUD to know you recited the entire code to memory."

Whitewillow padded from her den and looked around. She steetched out her wings until the feathers quiverwd.
Blacklily laid outside the nursery. Her huge belly wasn't the only indicator she would be giving birth any day now. She also looked exhausted as if ready to be done being pregnant.
Redhawk flew into camp with a rabbit in his jaws

Griffinfeather had to keep himself from jumping up when he heard Bumblestar's voice. Why wouldn't she be here? Griffinfeather should have thought more about this and train her at night like how he did with Lavenderpaw. He slowly turned around, trying to act nonchalant about Bumblestar being here. One corner of his mouth turned up in a small smirk, "You should have been here the whole time. I told her to be prepared for trick questions. This just happened to be one of them. I'm sure Sweetpaw would agree as well." Griffinfeather had to think quickly about this, but he had practiced lying. To his parents, friends, strangers, Clanmates, he was not picky. He felt pretty good about his answer also. Bumblestar seemed to be on his case the past few days, perhaps he should have planned this better. However, Griffinfeather shoved the thought into the back of his mind. But one thing was for sure, he was happy he made Sweetpaw swear she would not say anything. So, she had to cover for him occasionally now. He made a mental note to bring that up during the next training session.
(Yes that works for me Hi Tawny!)

So, she had to cover for him occasionally now. He made a mental note to bring that up during the next training session. (Yes that works for me Hi Tawny!) Bumblestar bristled. She knew he was lying, but she knew it took time to expose a liar. For now, she would enact a new, short living rule within her clan. "Well, if that is all, I'm sure you can accept that no apprentice is to be out past Sundown? And if I catch you training ANY apprentice that is not yours I will make YOU one for a day or two as punishment. Is that understood? You are NOT above a leader. Don't forget it." Her last words were in a snappy tone. She was not about to allow anyone to try and make her seem like an idiot. Eaglestar made HER become leader, not this tom. Lichenstep, meanwhile, was padding softly to see Lavenderpaw, before smiling widely as she noticed the apprentice playing. "Good morning, Lavenderpaw. I am pleased to see you are up early. Apologies for arising late. Are you ready to train on your wing signals? Bumblestar wants to start incorporating them in apprentice training." It had been Patchfoot's idea to start creating wing signals, as all cats of the clan would no doubt, benefit from this. Lichenstep was no doubt excited to train young Lavenderpaw.

Lavenderpaw was not expecting Lichenstep approach her, and she jumped up in surprise. However, it just made her wince in pain, but she tried to keep it quiet and unnoticed. Lichenstep was the last person besides Griffinfeather who she wanted to see. Training sounded like torture, her muscles hurt from standing, how was she supposed to practice battle moves and wing signals and patrol today? Lavenderpaw just nodded her head, "Uh, sure. I guess..." she half lied. Lavenderpaw was not prepared for training. She wanted rest, and if she was being honest with herself, she knew she should have not woken up so early. Lavenderpaw silently begged that a random tornado would come out of no where so she would not have to train. Of course, she knew how impossible that would have to be. Lavenderpaw started walking towards the enterance to camp, the soreness has lessened but it was still there.
Griffinfeather kept himself from letting out a small chuckle when he saw the leader grow agitated. However, he was not prepared for what she had to say next. He kept himself from yelling at her that she was a mouse-brained fool who did not know the true life of a warrior. He would have said something about her adoption but he kept silent, just nodding like normal and saying, "That won't be a problem. Since when do I care if apprentices are out past sundown?" Griffinfeather scoffed before batting his wings to gain height and fly above the trees and back to camp. He silently cursed to himself the whole way back. Mainly because of his own mistake, but then he had to remind himself that it was only temporary. Plus, she had to get the deputy's vote right? Hopefully that was the case, perhaps the deputy won't see a need for it and just reject the idea in its entirety. Griffinfeather noticed Lavenderpaw and Lichtenstep talking by the camp enterance when he landed. Another idea came to mind, he could practice with her while they trained. Maybe just ask her mentor how she is doing on her battle skills and so forth. He just needed to act normal about it. "Hello Lichenstep, Lavenderpaw." He eyed her with his yellow gaze, "Do you mind if I come with you two? I hear wing signals are being practiced today, and I want to help out a little. You know, since I don't have an apprentice of my own."

Do NOT keep secrets from a leader." Lichenstep oddly growled, a symbol of her obvious distrust towards toms. In all truths, only Jayclaw was never growled at, due to Jayclaw being her father. "No. I am perfectly capable of training MY apprentice, Griffinfeather. In fact, please don't bother me or Lavenderpaw today." With that, she led Lavenderpaw slowly away to the Bubbling Pond, muttering about stupid stuff the entire way. Once there, she nudged Lavenderpaw to a sunny rock and smiled. "We will rest on these rocks first. I noticed your wings were VERY tense, and my mother told me it is a sign of both anxiety and pain within a young apprentice. Would you like to hear some stories my father would tell me, first?"
