Got to be one of my favourite books in the Warriors series. Casts a great bckgriund on Crookedstar (especially pared with Crookedstars promise). However, I found it slightly 'creepy'. Mapleshade learns the patterns of the cats she wants to kill, efrsctivly stalking them, and then kills them. All the while seeing her kits in her head mewling for revenge.
It is a great book, on of my favourite in the series.

Eh, definitely not my favorite. Too many things happened to Mapleshade at once and barely anyone supported her. Mapleshade looked like a victim while the others acted like a jerk to her. She didn't even try to understand why they acted the way they did. Frecklewish and Oakstar were both grieving, and Ravenwing was the medicine cat. He had to tell the truth. If he just went with Mapleshade's lie then he would have been exiled himself. Mapleshade never really believed she did anything wrong, and thought she had such a poor life and tried to throw the pity party. Others have had it harder than her. Mapleshade's story was unrealistic, imo. I really think it could have been written better - or heck we didn't need one at all. Her story could have remained as a mystery. But nope, the Erins decided to throw in a sob story for her and completely ruin her character.

I kind of felt like Maple was supposed to be the victim, yet I can totally understand why she was driven out. They were still grieving! You can't tell them that! ITS THE CLAN LEADERS SON!!! They will drive you out of the Clan.

I didn't like it. Mapleshade was to much the viction. There was not really a reason why everyone was mean to her and hated her suddenly. And she can't have ben the first cat to have half-clan kits.

I didn't like her back round story that much. For me I changed it a little to make it somewhat. Like the vision Raverwing had was a warning about the kits drowning instead of them belonging in Thunderclan. I also added a sister for Mapleshade named Applelight. I though a sister that could support her would be nice. Then she had at least someone to fall back on when the Clan kicked her and the kits out. As for Frecklewish I thing she got what she derisive. The warrior code says to protect all kits no matter what clan or who their parents are. She followed then to the river saw the kits go into the rushing water and as a result of her not even trying to help one of them they all died.

I like and hate it. I like it because we get an insight on the overused Mapleshade. I hate because it felt rush and tbh a SE would have been better in my opinion.

sorry don't know what "tbh" and "SE" means on this forum "To be honest" and "Super Edition" I hated the novella. In fact it was the last Warriors book I read besides Path of Stars. Again, it was a victim of poor writing and completely ruined the otherwise awesome character of Mapleshade.

I agreement with you their. I mean all the little ti-bids through Crookedstar's Promise and then Goosefeather's backstory just for it to start out like that.

It was an OK novella - not the best, though - although I think they made Mapleshade too victimy. I get that everything bad that happens to her drives her crazy, but it was a bit much.

I say yes they could have put one cat in Thunderclan that would stand up for her That's why I made a sister for her cause they just pushed bad things on her.

Ya I though that was over the top which is why I think they should have had some family for her someone who she could turn to for advice. In point my made up sister got her "Applelight".

When I read about Mapleshade I made a sister for her names Applelight. Is was before I read Mapleshade's Vengeance. I made Applelight to be a light brown cat with orange patches. I wanted to make a sister who stood up for her but had a different personalty.

Yes I wish some of them would have been longer. It would have been better to find some more about their lives.

I feel like Frecklswish deserved it and be in the darkforest for letting the kits drown maybe the leader too for kicking out kits. I get it he and freckle wish were grieving but Maple shade not once told them they were that dead guys kits. They just automatically assumed that they are his kits a queen does have a right to not tell who the father is. I also think Ravenwing's vision about the kits drowning and not about not being thunderclan kits he is not the first to miss read a Vision remember Cinderpelt misreading the fire and tiger vision but Ravenwings miss read vision caused a lot more heart ache and blood shed.

Yes I just think it could have been written a bit better. I mean we don't know to well about the cat who Mapleshade had kits with also for no cat to stand up for her when they where kicking her and the kits out. I mean come on I understand if she was evil and actually done something wrong. But as the stories hint this is not the first and last time for cats from different clans to mate.

I agree so much it should've been a super edition I think though I love the book but there could've been more done. I also agree I found it odd that no cat not once stood up for her or at least for starclans sake the kits the kits can't help who there parents are. To me Frecklewish and Oakstar grieving or not they were childish not to mention self centered to turn out kittens when the code defends kittens so much they broke the code and they just got a slap on the paw! She wasn't evil I couldn't understand either way every cat turned on her when all most every cat in the clans have some sort of half clan heritage.

Yes if you think about it the Cats in Dawn of the Clan have their families split up between the clans even so more with Moth Flight's kits being in each of the other clans. I just wished they said more about Mapleshade's kin that either is or was in Thunderclan. I mean yes in reality young cats should out live there parents but what about siblings didn't she have a brother or maybe a sister? Anyone in the Elders den?

Well Bluestar didn't lose everyone. She still had her father and then there was Goosefeather as well. I think to really know more they should do a short story of her kithood. Also a story on Ravenwing with the vision he received and after his death.
