we are not people at all?? I don’t have to serve u if you’re acting like this to me??? I’m trying to help you??? And they’re cussing me out because of a mistake someone else made but apparently it’s my fault??? I get cussed out, at minimum, 3 TIMES A SHIFT. and because I calmly expressed myself and try to help u and tell you to “please speak to me civilly”, you find it necessary to complain to corporate about my service???
literally when I see one of my friends act unreasonably rude to a waitress or fast food staff, I stop talking to them immediately because it’s way uncalled for and WE DONT GET PAID ENOUGH TO PUT UP WITH YOUR BS
okay I’m done venting but plz share any ridiculous stories if you work in the food industry bc I will back you up and we can rant together

bro the amount of times i've been stiffed (fat 0 on the tip line) even though it says all over the receipt AND box "please tip your driver!!!" is completely uncalled for

I've heard food service is worse, but I've been in retail for the past few years and I have my fair share of horror stories too. Particularly emblazoned in my memory is the guy who yelled at me so hard spit flew out of his mouth because we didn't have enough of the item he wanted. The item was on a huge sale, so I feel like he should have known our stock would be wiped out. Like did he think he was the only person who knew about the sale?
One lady also told me I was so bad at my job I should quit lol

Been yelled at many times as a hotel front desk clerk. It's almost always not something front desk related, it's usually a housekeeping issue (I work overnight, I never even see housekeeping) or parents upset that we don't open our breakfast earlier than the POSTED HOURS because their kid has to be at some tournament at 7am. Been yelled at because the elevator broke with someone in it (he said we should've known the elevator was going to break down), because the tornado sirens were going off (apparently I control mother nature), and because I wouldn't call my manager in the middle of the night because I wouldn't break the posted hotel rules about not accepting cash at check in (when I told her I was not going to call my manager in the middle of the night over a clearly posted policy, she screamed at me "It's not the middle of the night, it's MIDNIGHT" [umm, the word itself is MIDnight, as in MIDdle of the night])
People are rude. But some are very nice. I still prefer my overnight shift with as little human contact as possible.

I've worked retail, food service, and gas station cashier. I made the decision to never work customer service ever again, I'd literally rather live in a cardboard box than deal with the entitlement of people.

dude i freaking F E E L
I legit dont go out to eat with my old choir group anymore because theres a bunch of new people and they treat the service like s h i t and its embarrassing af. every time i went with them i ended up tipping the server at least 20 bucks for my 10 dollar meal and apologizing personally bc everyone else was such a pain in the ass.
im a waitress/hostess and while the diner where i work is usually ok?? i have been driven to tears by rude customers at least once. dont get me freaking started on tips. i once had a table who came in 2 minutes before closing, stayed for an hour, complained about everything (Cream of chicken soup too thick. filet of sole smelling so awful "even my dog wouldnt eat this" even though she ate half of it before ever saying anything) and then stiffed me. Yesterday my friend served a party that had a 90$ check and tipped her 5 bucks. SHE LITERALLY PAID TO WAIT ON THAT TABLE BECAUSE OUR TIP OUT IS BASED ON SALES TIERS. a 90 dollar check bumped her up several tiers.
people are always like "tipping is optional!!" no it ******* isn't. we get paid 2.15 an hour BEFORE taxes which is not NEARLY ENOUGH for your shit because theres a loophole in state laws. Restaurant owners ASSUME we make tips that will make up most of our minimum wage. if waitresses made minimum wage your food would be more expensive because the restaurant would raise prices in order to be able to pay servers more. "its not my problem your bosses suck! im doing this to protest the system!" good, do you want to join a workers union and lobby for minimum wage for servers? no? then ****** TIP instead of saying youre protesting the system, you ****.
(starred out some of my swearing bc there was a lot.)
