it was real good, i got some really nice stuff owo -----
Despite the topic having been on the very glaring absence of workers at the bar, Hyeon-u was well aware that something wasn't quite right. There seemed to be something amiss, a presence within the surrounding area that had caught her attention. It was faint, and almost not even there, but there was still something...something that the fox spirit couldn't quite put her finger on, but something nonetheless.
She glanced around, amber eyes narrowing. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. The bar was empty save for the moving silhouettes of the remaining workers getting their own jobs ready for the night's opening. It wouldn't be long now, just another minute or two, and the bar would be flooded with people. Already she could hear the steady hum of a crowd gathering outside thanks to her heightened hearing; it seemed like a decent sized crowd for the start of the night, but nothing they couldn't handle. It certainly wasn't as large as the first crowd to pour in during the weekends, but it was certainly promising. They'd be getting another fine meal before the night was over.
Deciding that she was probably just on edge due to the added stress of being shorthanded, Hyeon-u elected to ignore the strange feeling - for now. It was probably nothing, and if it was something she could deal with it later. Instead she turned to Jiyeong, displaying that typical sly look of hers over her visage. "You get all your worrying out? If so, let's open this bad boy up for the night," she mused, walking over to the closed door to unlock it and allow the first steady stream of customers in to start the night off.

Oh dude nice! Sketchbooks and laptops are heckin important
——
With no immediate response, he’s let his worries reclaim his attention. It wasn’t like him to be so in observant, however he had more important things to be dealing with. Whatever had caught her attention could surely wait to be dealt with. For now, it seemed he had a little more than a minute to think about what could be done in order to fill the new void in staff before somebody snapped. If he had to guess, it would be himself, his companion, or Jaehwan. He’d been getting rather testy as of late, and he knew how he was about his temper. Still, it would be best to keep anybody from snapping at all if business were to continue running smoothly. Plus, he just didn’t want to deal with as he wasn’t responsible for other people’s emotions.
It wasn’t until Hyeon-u spoke up again that his focus was drawn. Right, it was about time to open, wasn’t it? Sighing gently he stood, rolling his shoulders as he started over to the island bar. “Unfortunately I haven’t, but I’ve been known to put on a good show.” He was good at acting as if everything were fine, especially when the bar was open. Just as soon as people were entering, he’d regained his typical composure and taken up his post behind the counter. He watched as the empty space was quickly filled, letting the prospect of food calm his nerves as the music started as scheduled. Right - it wasn’t the best, but it would do for now.
As the system behind her started up and people began to flood into the building, Lishan grinned a little. Good, that meant she could get up in a few moments. It wasn’t that she would go unnoticed - she hadn’t eaten in a couple days and it left her stuck without a full human disguise. Her horns were very much present, twisting as they grew mostly upwards though slightly backwards as well, and her canines were longer than she would’ve liked. Not enough to be seen when her mouth was closed, but enough to be a bother. Regardless of this fact, she stood up and surveyed the new crowd. Not bad - she’d heard this place could get busy. This also meant that it would hopefully take longer for her presence to be noticed.
Well, it would’ve. Rather she immediately focused on the music system in front of her. The mix playing now was good, but it could be better - much better. Grinning a little to herself, she got to work on the soundboard, simply easing out of the automating track and moving into her own edits. It wasn’t hard - this wasn’t the most complicated system she had ever seen, though it seemed rather expensive. State of the art, perhaps. Still, it wasn’t unfamiliar to her, which made it all the easier to manipulate.

they really are -----
Hopefully everybody would be able to make it through the night without any mishaps. Tensions were high, and that made the chance of somebody snapping all the higher. Hyeon-u knew the lack of staff had been getting to her as well, and while she prided herself in being able to keep most of her frustrations down, she knew it wouldn't take much longer for her natural charm to turn into a natural storm. She was a lot more vinegar than she was sugar, but she had been able to hold herself together for now. As for some of the other workers... She knew Jiyeong was getting close to being on his last nerve as well. Other workers were getting noticeable strained as well. Jaewan, while a good worker, was obviously getting to his wit's end as he had been growing testier by the day. Hyeon-u would hate to see him completely snap. There was also Myeong who had been getting rather snappy as of late as well. It wouldn't be long before something happened, and Hyeon-u only hoped the problem would be solved before it got worse.
But enough of that.
Trusting that Jiyeong could very well put on a good show like he had said, Hyeon-u allowed the first flood of people to step inside the bar. Once she had opened the doors to the public she went straight to the nearby bar, already receiving order after order. It wasn't long between serving drinks that she had singled out a young woman that would make for a decent meal, but her attention was pulled away from the woman when something even more peculiar grabbed the gumiho's attention.
While there typically was somebody manning the sound system, there was a silhouette currently there that Hyeon-u couldn't quite place a name on. She doubted she was making a mistake of identity, she was too sharp and keen to make those kinds of mistakes, and that only brought her back to the feeling she had earlier of something being out of place. Now this was suspicious. There had been a few times when a too drunk customer tried weaseling their way into parts of the bar they didn't belong. Perhaps that was it. Perhaps it was just an annoying customer that had pregamed a bit too hard back at home before coming out to the bar tonight.
While she knew things were already tight and this could only lead to even more stress, she called over to the nearest worker to temporarily take her spot at the bar. Some areas of work could wait, but serving couldn't be left alone. Once her place had been filled, Hyeon-u casually made her way over to the sound system, stopping a few feet away with a rather lazy and unimpressed stance and expression. That nonchalance was soon replaced with something a bit more guarded when, once again, Hyeon-u found herself getting the feeling that something was unusual. Even still, she kept herself under wraps, keeping her typical alluring yet smoothly calm aura about her. "Music isn't bad, but I am curious to know who you are." Perhaps she was getting to the point a bit too soon, but Hyeon-u didn't have time to stand around and make too big of a deal out of this. She had to get back to the bar soon enough, but she had to figure out who was messing with their sound system first.

She’d gotten ahead of herself, forgotten what she was here for. She was meant to be hiding and maybe finding a meal. Instead, the demon found herself messing with the sound board and putting together a new mix, something that seemed rather needed if you asked her. The patrons would be too drunk to notice her horns, much less pay her any mind. After all, most of them were humans judging by the overwhelming scent of them. As for other species, some sort of fox spirits if she had to guess, hopefully they wouldn’t mind her presence. It would give her more leeway at the very least. Still, all prior objectives had been abandoned in favor of creating better sounds for the atmosphere. She kept an eye on the crowd as she did so, taking pleasure in how music could change the mood of the room so easily. It wasn’t hard for her to understand what the majority seemed to be enjoying, which made them easy to cater to while still feeding into her own preferences. Not that she exactly cared what humans like, but this wasn’t her bar. This place wasn’t her anything, really, just a temporary hideout.
What was even better about this place was that people were worried. They had ill intentions and a guilty conscious to match. Sure, it wasn’t exactly a meal, but it was the energy she fed off of. All demons specialized in recognizing and manipulating negative emotions, and it seemed this particular bar was saturated in them. It only made her want to stay more. It wasn’t as if staying here was the best plan, but it seemed like the ideal environment.
Her focus was drawn by a particular voice, one clearly aimed at her. Damn lucky I’m a hound or I wouldn’t have heard... Amber eyes cutting back up to the crowd, it didn’t take long to zero in on the source. Right - there weren’t only humans here. She hadn’t been trained on the scent specifically, but she suspected kitsune or gumiho. To her knowledge, they were the only fox spirits in the area. She couldn’t help but frown a little as her words processed. Not bad? The hell was that supposed to mean? Despite this, her hands never left the system as she spoke. “Lishan Mavvius. I’m surprised you even left the bar, it’s pretty busy.” The hound had taken note of some of the workers after she’d gotten inside. She’d also taken note of just how many people had entered as soon as the establishment opened. Her logic had been that she wouldn’t be approached while everyone had their hands full, though it seemed she was mistaken.

Hyeon-u should have stayed at the bar, that should have been her top priority over everything else, but her curiousity had gotten the better of her - plus, if this...demon, she suspected, was here to shake things up then it was best to nip her plans in the bud before anything happened. They could afford a problem at the bar more than they could afford a problem throughout the entire establishment. "Yes, it is rather busy," Hyeon-u replied smoothly, eyeing the other female through a half-lidded gaze. It wasn't unusual for creatures to make a stop at the Fox's Den. It was open to all, human or not, but it was another thing when those creatures came in and started messing with equipment. Though...
The gears in her head began to turn as she looked the demon over. She knew nothing about Lishan, but the horned creature was right about one thing - the bar was incredibly busy. Hyeon-u glanced over her shoulder to give it a quick look. It seemed more people had made their way over ever since she had left to go check all of this out. A low grumble rolled off her tongue. She couldn't stay away for much longer with that kind of activity.
Doing something she wouldn't have otherwise, Hyeon-u gave the demon a pointed look, one that said she wouldn't hesitate to mess Lishan up should she do anything beyond her station. This was the heart of the fox's nest, and nobody messed that up. "I'll tell you what," the gumiho started, that pointed look still glaring toward the demon, "we're a bit...short on staff right now, and the people seem to be enjoying your music well enough." She gestured with her head to the people inside. "Keep doing what you're doing, but one wrong move, and, well," she paused, lips pulling up into a dark smile that showed off her sharp canines in the dim light, "your last song won't be such a hit." Hyeon-u had to make sure nothing went wrong here. She was already suspicious about Lishan; she wasn't a fan of how the demon just helped herself to the soundboard, but as long as she played by the gumiho's rules and kept everything running smoothly, Hyeon-u could see the use in having her around for now.

The horned woman new better than to pick a fight. Well, in this case, that is. She’d never personally encountered fox spirits, and it was unwise to start something when she was alone. Without the rest of her group, it was unlikely she’d make it out alive. It wasn’t that she was weak, but she’d heard stories of what the spirits were capable of. Needless to say, she wasn’t going to test any of them, not if she could help it. Still, it wasn’t like she was leaving easy, either. She’d left home for a reason and would be damned if she were to be out on the streets any longer - getting caught was not an option, and being outside made her vulnerable. As it stood, she has no plans on simply leaving because she was told to.
Despite her train of though, the demand that she leave never came. Rather, Lishan found herself meeting what she could only interpret as a threatening gaze. Or that’s what it should’ve been. Personally, she didn’t feel threatened, however she felt the intent. The promise that things would turn violent should something go wrong. It wasn’t completely unexpected, although part of her wondered just how that would play out. She was a wrath bound demon, and to see or even be part of such a thing would be thrilling. Likely fatal, but thrilling nonetheless. Ah, but she didn’t come here to die, she came here to escape that hell of a house. So she grinned and nodded slightly, her own canines rather clear in the light. “I’ll keep that in mind,” she replied, eyes turning back to the soundboard. As far as she was concerned, the conversation was over. There was nothing more to say, and likely no more threats to be delivered. So, that meant she could devote herself to the music once more.

This wasn't the ideal situation, but it was better than nothing. They needed the extra hands, and so long as Lishan stayed put and didn't do anything stupid then she could hang around for the night. It was one less thing the actual staff had to worry about, but now there was the added worry that the demon would do something. Then again, Hyeon-u had made it pretty clear that if Lishan made one wrong move then it wouldn't end up so well for her, and something told the gumiho that Lishan didn't have a death wish. She was a mere demon, Hyeon-u would have no problem taking her down, especially with Jiyeong and the others backing her up.
At Lishan's response, the fox spirit gave a satisfied smirk. "Glad to hear." With one last look she turned and headed back toward the bar, instantly getting back into the groove of taking orders and mixing drinks. At some point she more than likely needed to make Jiyeong aware of their little visitor, but that could wait. It had to wait - if she left the bar again she was afraid it would only end up with very annoyed customers, and that was something she wanted to avoid more than Jiyeong getting surprised by a random demon at the soundboard.

Jiyeong hadn’t noticed his companions disappearance, too busy with his own set of patrons. He hadn’t noticed much of anything for the first few hours, actually. Rather than focus on his worries, he let himself fall back into his almost thoughtless actions. He knew how each drink was made, and flirting with the people was essentially mindless work for him. Soon enough the worry of what to do about the empty position was temporarily nonexistent and there was only the bar and potential meals. For a few hours, things were going very smoothly and the facade he put on held rather well.
Four or five hours after opening was when he’d actually gotten a glance at the sound board. It was also when he hyper fixated on the silhouette. Not only was somebody working with the equipment, it was somebody who clearly didn’t work here. Further more, from what he could tell it was some sort of demon arranging the nights music as it played. For a brief moment, his carefree mask dropped, eye brows furrowing as he all but crushed a glass in his hand. It wasn’t so much the sound of the glass that drew him back as it was a few customers questioning if he was alright. Or attempting to, that is. Their words were so slurred he was lucky he could understand them. Pulling himself back into the moment, the gumiho dismissed the concerns with ease and busied himself with cleaning up the newly created shards on the floor. Once it was taken care of, he managed to force himself back to the patrons, though did throw a questioning glance towards Hyeon-u across the bar. For him, the rest of the night would be spent wondering who thought they were good enough to man the sound system.

happy new years eve!! -----
The next few hours seemed to fly by due. Order after order had come, and Hyeon-u had been kept busier than a bee on making sure every patron got what they had wanted in an orderly fashion and in an appropriate amount of time. She couldn't slack off and allow anybody to leave annoyed or neglected. Luckily she had found her groove within minutes of returning back to the bar after dealing with Lishan, and Hyeon-u's success with the customers had not gone unnoticed. Thanks to the natural charm that came with being a gumiho she had grabbed the attention of a good amount of customers, and a few had grabbed her attention as well. Though, receiving special attention form a fox spirit such as herself was never a positive thing, but nobody had to know that but her and her fellow co-workers.
It was during a lull in the otherwise busy night that Hyeon-u noticed a look shot over in her direction from Jiyeong. She would have missed it had it not been for the drop in activity, but her sharp senses and supernatural eyesight had been able to spot the look. She had to stop and wonder just what the look was about, but it didn't take her long to figure out what it had to be.
Lishan.
At first she felt herself stiffen, ready to do something about the demon if she had went against her words from earlier, but Hyeon-u calmed herself down before acting irrationally. If Lishan had done something Jiyeong would have taken care of her long by now. She wouldn't have been able to get passed him. But that did leave the gumiho wondering what the look was about nonetheless. He must have spotted her if anything.
Hyeon-u threw her own look back at him, brow raised in question, not leaving where she was just yet. A lot of people had left from the first rush, but that didn't mean the bar was empty, and now with a good amount of people drunk out of their minds it was a bit rowdier than it had been at the start when most of the customers had still been sober.

my phone has for some reason stopped alerting me to new posts BUT HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
----
The gumiho was more than irritated at the sight of some demon manning the soundboard. In that moment, it didn't matter to him how good she was. Rather, he was focused on how such an inferior creature had just invited themselves into a place where they could easily be destroyed, and still think it okay to touch equipment. He had more room to focus on it now that most of the first rush had died down. The only problem was he was forced to keep an eye on the crowd to ensure nothing broke out. Normally this wasn't a problem, but he would be the first to quite literally throw people out if there was a fight.
The look he received in response only indicated to him that the source of his question was unknown. Glancing around, Jiyeong found that if he were to leave his post, now would be the best time to do so. So, he let himself out from behind the counter, weaving between people with nothing more than the occasional shove to get by somebody who just seemed too drunk to move on their own. It didn't take him long to reach the other bar and simply invite himself behind the counter. Once he was close enough to the other, his previous unspoken question was already leaving his mouth. "Why is there a demon working the soundboard?"

Oof tell your phone to get good happy new year to you too!! hope it’s treated you well so far uwu ——
The only thing that was somewhat surprising was how soon Jiyeong made his way over to where Hyeon-u currently was. She would have expected the other fox spirit to stay at his station for a while longer, but upon further inspection she realized that now was perhaps the least busy they had been all night. Right now was the perfect time for Jiyeong to get his answer.
She could tell he wasn’t fond of this. She wasn’t either, but she had obviously allowed it to slide earlier. So far the demon seemed to be keeping up her promise to stay out of trouble. ”She found her way in earlier. I was going to run her out, but we needed somebody handling the music, and the people seemed to be enjoying what she was playing. Besides,” she shot a glance toward Jiyeong, ”weren’t you just questioning if we should hire lesser demons?” She wasn’t suggesting they straight up hire Lishan, Hyeon-u still didn’t trust the other female, but she seemed to know what she was doing with the music, and there was no denying they were short handed. If anything keeping Lishan around shouldn’t be pushed off the table unless she ended up stepping out of line.

We spent most of the time watching things! She caught me up on Steven Universe, got me into Infinity Train, I finally saw the new aladdin, and we unlocked a good portion of characters in smash
----
Normally he would've stayed at the island longer, but this was not a normal situation. No, in his eyes this was something that required immediate attention, and thusly immediate answers. While that's what he got, he was far from happy about it. What was 'earlier'? As in right after they opened or before the doors were even unlocked? If he found out it was the latter was true, he'd be all the more irritated. Though what irritated him more was the fact that Hyeon-u was right. Whatever the demon was doing the people were enjoying. Perhaps it was more the idea that removing her could ruin the first night in weeks that everyone wasn't taking on more than they could handle.
What really got to Jiyeong was the fact that she threw his earlier question back at him. His typically calm visage gave way to one of his rare glares as he hissed in answer, "I questioned it, not once did I say we should." There was a difference, and as it stood he still didn't want lesser creatures touching bar equipment. There was too much he didn't know about the woman, too much he couldn't account for should something go wrong. Turning, dark eyes landed on the horned silhouette once more. Still, he couldn't deny that somebody else taking care of it would be a relief for everyone.
"I suppose I can tolerate her for the night..." He didn't want to. It was one of his flaws - he wanted things his way or no way. It was something he'd been forced to work on when they had taken over the bar together, and it hadn't gotten much better, but progress was progress. For him, this was surely progress.

ooo nice!! i haven't caught up on steven universe future yet, i really need to do that oops but all that sounds really fun -----
Were this under normal circumstances than the demon would have never been able to man the soundboard. She may not have even been allowed to stay after such a bold move on her part, and it wasn't uncommon for Hyeon-u to get a little...aggressive with those who thought they could step in and get away with whatever they wanted, but for once she had been able to put the aggression aside for the sake of the bigger picture here. Without really having to worry about an actual staff member working the music for the night, things had gone a bit smoother. Not by much, but the difference was there, and it was enough that it was at least noticeable.
It didn't take a genius to see that Jiyeong was not okay with this in the slightest. She didn't blame him. She felt his anger was justified - after all, she'd felt the same way before she had put some deeper thought into the whole situation; however, that still didn't stop her from sending a quick flash of her canines toward the other gumiho when he shot her a glare. He could be as pissed as he wanted to be, but she wasn't going to let him throw it all on her even if she had been the one to extend an invitation to Lishan.
"This isn't ideal, I know, but I've been keeping an eye on her. One step out of line and we'll never have to worry about her snooping around the place ever again," Hyeon-u promised. If it came down to that, she'd also prefer being the one to take the demon out; she had allowed Lishan to stay in the first place, and she would want nothing more than to follow up on her threat if the demon forgot her place. It wouldn't be a fair fight, Hyeon-u knew she could end the demon's existence in a matter of seconds, but the gumiho wasn't really known for playing fair anyway.

DUDE its a time please catch up on it it was! I packed way too much though considering we like barely left her house lmao
----
It was rare for him to genuinely display emotions on his face, especially those that he considered unappealing to the eye. This generally eliminated displays of negative emotion, and larger displays of the positive ones. This was one of the occasions that he broke, a momentary loss of control in his eyes. A quick show of Hyeon-u's canines was the only thing that truly alerted him to his little break. Still, it wasn't enough for him to curb his anger.
It wasn't until she spoke up that Jiyeong's face began to relax into its normal presentation. He wholeheartedly believed that she would take care of the demon should it become a pest. In fact, he had no doubt in her ability to do so. Rather, his concern was what problems the creature could cause before she was disposed of. "I know you can handle her, and I trust your judgement." He just didn't like the idea of a demon working anywhere in the bar. That's all there was to it.

Now that was certainly something she listen to again. Hyeon-u knew herself well, and she knew that any decision she made was the right one - at least in her mind she was never wrong - yet hearing others agree with that always sent a ripple of pride through her body. She knew she was right, but hearing somebody else say that, especially somebody like Jiyeong, was deeply satisfying. Technically he had only went so far as to say he trusted her judgement, but to the vixen that was still him practically outright admitting that she was right about this whole situation - let the demon stay for now, any wrong move would be her last, and a later evaluation and judgement upon her could be made once the bar had closed.
Speaking of closing; Hyeon-u swept a quick gaze around the establishment. People were still milling about, but it was finally starting to really clear up. "Suppose it won't be too much longer until we can have a little chat with the demon, hmm?" She questioned, having not exactly been paying much mind to the time through the night. With how busy things have been, checking the time had been the least of her concerns.

Lowkey the only reason I was able to catch up is cause it was on demand xD i don't have cable at my house so I also watched the movie with her ahhhh if you say so
------
He personally wouldn't go as far as saying she was right. Honestly, he rather disagreed with her decision despite the break it had given anybody. Then again, that was also from a personal mindset. Business wise, it was likely the better option as it stood. Still, he still wouldn't necessarily say she had had been right. At the most, he would've liked to know about this earlier. Even still, despite his disagreement he was sure that she had thought about it before deciding to let the demon stay. After all, she seemed rather confident about her decision. Though, he didn't know her to be anything less than.
As she brought up speaking with the creature, Jiyeong huffed. Right, speaking with it. "No, I suppose it won't be." There wasn't much longer before people would be removed and the bar would be relatively empty save for the meals they'd keep. "How civil do I have to be?" Honestly the fox spirit didn’t even want to look at the demon, much less talk to it. He personally saw no reason as to why she deserved his time, but he also wanted to ensure she was of minimal threat.

yeah, we dont have demand so i'll have to find it online somewhere xD
also i love jiyeong, let him be a child -----
Even though Hyeon-u had already spoken with the demon, she planned on being there when Jiyeong made his introduction to Lishan. Perhaps she should stay out of the business that would go on there, but she was much too curious to sit around and do nothing, and besides, it was in her rights as a co-owner to know what all happened within the walls of the bar.
A twitch of amusement pulled at Hyeon-u's lips when she heard Jiyeong's question. "Hmm," she mused, acting as though she really had to put some thought into this when she already knew her answer. "I'd say a bit more civil than you probably want to be. Don't kill her right off the bat at least." Maybe Hyeon-u was going soft, but a small part of her did want to give the demon a chance. So far she had acted accordingly, and things had been running smoother since she had appeared at the soundboard... Maybe having her around wouldn't be the end of the world, but Hyeon-u was still suspicious nonetheless. She didn't like how the newcomer had started messing with things that weren't even hers to begin with, and she wouldn't mind tearing into Lishan at any chance she proved to be detrimental to anything within the bar, but maybe just one little chance wouldn't hurt.

Jiyeong is just secretly has the personality of a petty high school girl this will be his legacy
----
"Hm, you've robbed me of my fun then," he replied, a hint of amusement finding its way into his eyes. It would definitely be less fun that way, though he supposed being at least somewhat civil was called for given the situation. Despite this, he didn't want to speak with a lesser creature for any reason that may possibly consist of a job. It just wasn't in his nature. Honestly, it wasn't in his nature to speak with lesser beings if he could avoid it. Unfortunately, this was something he had to do now.
The gumiho did eventually return to the other bar for the remainder of the night, though cast glances towards the soundboard when he could. He'd gotten back into his normal rhythm for the last couple hours, and was quick to remove people once it was time to close. While he took care of the people, Lishan watched from her place behind the equipment. It wasn't long before the bar was empty save for a select few, it seemed. How interesting, though it didn't concern her. What did concern her was the fact that she was starving, and the prospect of not exactly having a place to go once she left the establishment. The latter wouldn't be a big deal, it was a quick fix, but the food thing... They wouldn't notice if one of those people went missing, right? Sure, there was still enough of them.
With a decision in mind, she let herself out from behind the booth, making her way across the floor with ease. Nothing like taking somebody into a back room or an alley to eat them. Ah, the good days, she'd missed this. The others would love to have the same chance... She'd get them there. The demon was no more than ten or so feet away when she felt a hand on her shoulder just before she was turned around.
"Where are you going?"
Glancing up, Lishan realized how much taller than herself this man was. Not only that, but she recognized him as the other bartender, which meant that this likely wasn't a casual question. "Ya know, just thought I'd grab a bite to eat. Nothing big."
Jiyeong simply stared at her, not quite enjoying the answer. So she intended to steal somebody else's meal, then? That simply wouldn't do. "Mhm. What's your name and what is it you do?"
"Lishan Mavvius, I-" she cut herself short. She was a literal guard dog. That's what she did, she guard some large house that some other demon lived in because he bought her. Hell hounds like herself made for good muscle, and she wasn't about to get roped into another position like that. "I'm a guard of sorts. Or, was. Okay I'm technically a runaway and I know my way around music."

jiyeong starring in every high school movie as the mean girl -----
Hyeon-u managed an amused chuff at Jiyeong's words. "I've been known to rob fun plenty of times before," she replied smoothly, a mischievous look coming across her expression. Wasn’t that what she was? A robber of fun. Of course, usually she was robbing her victim of whatever fun they thought they were going to get after a night of her practically seducing them. She was no stranger to snatching fun and quite literally crushing it. The fun that she was crushing right now wasn’t exactly that, but fun was fun, and Hyeon-u was an expert at ruining such a thing.
The rest of the night went as smoothly as it could. Before long the people that had gathered throughout the night were starting to clear out save for the few stragglers that needed to be herded out like mindless sheep. Hyeon-u did her part there, corralling them out into the streets without batting an eye. Luckily she didn’t have to deal with any that tried to resist being dragged out. Mostly they just drunkenly did as they were told, making it rather easy for the gumiho to get that particular task done.
As she was stepping back into the bar, she could now see throughout the mostly empty establishment. It didn’t take her long to notice that Jiyeong had gone over to confront Lishan; now that was something she didn’t want to miss. Besides, now was the time to really question the demon, and if one gumiho wasn’t intimidating enough, then two surely would be. That would get the other female talking for sure.
Coming in right as Jiyeong was questioning Lishan about her name and occupation, Hyeon-u made sure to make her presence known, but be subtle about it all the same. She didn’t want to steer the demon’s attention away from what was important right now. But it was only a matter of time before the gumiho spoke up, an eyebrow raised in question. ”A runaway guard, hmm? What is it that you’re running away from?” If this demon was running from something big, something that would want to track her down, it was important to know. If she brought unneeded attention to the bar then she would have some very angry fox spirits to deal with.

he ascends to the ultimate mean girl
----
A runaway demon... how odd. Much like themselves, he'd rarely known them to be the type to simply flee any given situation. In fact, he couldn't think of any he'd encountered that fled, not even those he was about to kill. They were a proud type, surviving due to sheer will and their stubborn refusal to go without a fight. Yet, here this woman was, saying she was a runaway. To him it was an odd case, enough to pique his interest. It seemed his companion beat him to the his next question, however, though he didn't mind. So long as an answer was given, he didn't care either way.
Lots of things. She left for several reasons, but none of them were really befitting somebody who was just a guard. "A demon that would do anything to get me back." It was the shortest and least revealing truth she could tell. After all, lying to any kind of fox spirit likely wouldn't end well, and she still wasn't sure what kind they were. As it stood, she found it best not to test her luck. After all, she broke in to preserve her life, did she not? She wasn't about to throw that away for some lie when she could just as easily disclose only what was important. And for now, what was important to the people in front of her wasn't a lot.
"Anything," Jiyeong mused, eyes narrowing slightly. Anything could mean a lot of things, and one of those included having the bar shut down, and that was something he wouldn't stand for. Any sort of threat to the business was a personal threat as far as he was concerned. "That means you're important, and what is it that makes you that way?" A demon willing to do anything for another was a demon constantly out for blood, and he wouldn't have that. Not here, not now, not ever.
She shrugged slightly, glancing away as if she were a scolded animal. "Not sure - I only know how much he paid to have me." It was a fact thrown in her face a lot, one that she hated. It was something that she heard in her head every day despite having left the house several days ago. She didn't like having a price, knowing how much she was worth to others. Still, she supposed it was something she had to live with now, wasn't it? After all, she was nothing more than a guard dog to this demon just like the others. The others who wouldn't risk leaving with her despite knowing they'd have strength in numbers.
The fox spirit only raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest. "And what's to keep us from handing you over or simply killing you?"
"You're short handed," The demon answered, meeting his eyes once more. "I heard you two talking about it when I got in. You also talked about it a couple hours before closing. I'm not deaf, I know you don't want me here, but you have to admit I'm at least decent at what I do."

okay but jiyeong just walking into the bar with stereotypical mean white girl clothes and starbucks -----
Now this was really piquing her interest. A demon that ran away? That in and of itself sounded wrong. Hyeon-u was on the same thought process as her companion, having not known a demon that would just run away. That wasn't what they did. They stuck it out and bared their fangs even in the face of defeat. Hearing that this one had actually ran away... Either she was weak spirited - if she was it was surprising she had survived this long - or what she was running away from her too terrible to even imagine. It had to be a hellish situation she was escaping from. Demons didn't just run away, especially from somebody who paid them for their services. And the more Lishan spoke, the more wary Hyeon-u became about this whole situation.
A demon that would do anything to get their guard back. That didn't sound good. If her master came to look for her, if she was that important to the one she ran away from... Oh, if a demon came looking for her it wouldn't take Jiyeong and Hyeon-u long to subdue the demon and end their pathetic existence, but if they would do anything for Lishan's return, that meant drastic measures, and if that lesser creature tried anything that would disrupt their business then they had another thing coming.
To be honest, she had expected Jiyeong to lose his temper before she did, but that wasn't the case now. Hyeon-u pulled back her lips to reveal sharp canines, her amber eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. "You weren't followed, were you?" If she was she may not even know it. There was also the fact that if she had been followed her stalker would have made their move by now, unless they were waiting for a better time to swoop in and make their attack. "Short handed or not, we can fend for ourselves, but I'd really hate to waste any energy on your unnecessary drama." They had way too many other things to focus their attention on right now. The last thing they needed was some hellbent demon coming after this runaway.

omg dude yes I'm living for this concept
----
"Of course not - why the hell would I stop moving if I had been?" Lishan countered. It was unwise on her part to stay longer than twenty minutes, much less the duration of their operational hours if she even suspected that she had been followed. "Only reason I stayed was 'cause y'all had a cool soundboard and I need to eat. I've been at this for three days, and I'm tired." She also hadn't eaten in two weeks, but that was besides the point. What mattered to her was that she was too weak to defend herself properly and keep up her human visage. All she wanted at this point was to just grab one of those lovely people they seemed to have rounded up and be on her way. After all, it was quite clear she wouldn't be staying here.
Jiyeong listened to them, growing more irritated about the situation. He had no way of knowing if she truly hadn't been followed, though what was more concerning to him was what made her so valuable. In his eyes, there was no reason a demon should be so sought after. "You picked a poor place to stop, then. Get out." Hyeon-u was right, they could take care of themselves. Sure, it was stressful and pushing everyone closer to snapping, but they could take care of themselves. More than that, the bar was not a refuge for stray demons, and it wasn't going to become one anytime soon. There was no reason to let her stay any longer considering it seemed she'd be more trouble than she was worth. As it stood, there was no reason to expend the energy to make sure she wouldn't step out of line or bring unwanted attention with her.
The demon frowned a little, looking between the two. Get out? It couldn't be that simple. She'd more than felt the tension when she showed up, the worry. It had been more than enough to get her through the night, but they couldn't deny they needed help. Well they could, and they were, but that didn't make it true. "I'm not leaving, y'all need another set of hands and you know it. I can do any job, I'm the most trainable demon you'll meet. I could even be a bouncer - I wouldn't have gotten in if you'd had one." It was a stretch, and a risk, but she needed a place to stay. One that was far away from the house and she could get meals with ease. So far, the bar fit the bill perfectly, and she wasn't leaving without a fight. "I'll even stay and guard the place when everyone goes home." She'd barely gotten her last word out before she found her self being pulled forward and lifted just so by the collar of her shirt.
The fox spirit glared at her, pulled her up to eye level. "We don't need anything from the likes of you. I don't care what you're capable of, there is no reality in which your presence is needed here, do you understand me?" His voice was low, just short of a growl as he ground out the words. He was met with a slight nod, after which he dropped her unceremoniously, simply watching as she failed to land on her feet. "Convenient, on the other hand, is a different story." Turning to look at Hyeon-u, he found himself adjusting his sleeves. "Do you think we should keep her?"

nobody even questions it, it's literally just "oh, that's typical jiyeong for you" -----
The fact that she hadn't been followed did appeal to Hyeon-u a bit more. It didn't soften her up, but it made her more willing to listen to what Lishan had to say. Then again, there was the possibility that she was just saying that to get in their favor, to win them over, but there was also the point in the fact that if somebody had followed her she would be more on edge. She wouldn't have stayed for this long had somebody been hot on her trail. Of course, that didn't mean somebody had secretly followed her and she had no idea. That was very much something that could have happened as well. The demon was weak. Her senses would be skewed. There was no way she'd be able to truly sense if another entity had followed her to the bar. Even still...Hyeon-u couldn't help but feel like maybe, just maybe, this guard demon could be trusted. After all, she had kept to her word through the night while manning the soundboard, and there was a certain desperation in the way she held herself that made Hyeon-u wonder if she was too tired and too run down to even want to make up lies and then try to keep them going.
Truth be told, she was conflicted. The gumiho had never really felt this conflicted before. Typically when she made an observation and then a decision from that, she stuck to it. She had never been one to doubt herself before, but with Lishan having shown to be rather good at keeping up with the music, and the fact that they were short handed and needed more workers...well, it was hard. There was the distrust she had, the suspicions that bringing in this demon would cause them more trouble than not, but there was the fact that she had a hard time believing that Lishan was actually lying to them. Ugh, this was awful. No wonder she was so steadfast in her decision making, being anything otherwise was just annoying. Perhaps it would just be best to go ahead and chase this demon off, or honestly just kill her right then and there to keep her from ever coming back, but Hyeon-u even had a slight hesitation in doing that.
She was rather glad for Jiyeong to take the lead at the moment. He was gruff, certainly against letting Lishan hang around. That was of no surprise to the female fox as he had been against her presence since the start. Hyeon-u knew she should be against it too, but...
No, she had already been through all that by now. She needed to snap out of it.
Luckily, Jiyeong grabbing a hold of Lishan and bringing her to eye level with him was enough to keep Hyeon-u's thoughts straight enough to actually think about what was happening in the moment. Once the question was brought to her, she had a split second to make a decision that wouldn't cause her to look like some fool, but luckily she was a quick thinker. "What about a trial period? We keep her around for, say, three days, and if anything happens then, Jiyeong, you won't have to be civil at all." And neither would Hyeon-u if Lishan caused any problems to arise, that she could be certain of.

It only happens on bad days, and everyone just knows
----
In truth, Jiyeong didn't even want to consider keeping her. He couldn't push his bias far enough away to make a sound business decision, not at the current moment. Still, it was hard to deny that her presence tonight hadn't been convenient. Honestly, if she hadn't shown up it was likely that somebody would've had the last straw of extra work, which would've been worse than the current situation. Despite knowing this, he didn't want to keep her. They could do better... Hypothetically, that is. There weren't any gumiho left in the area, and kitsune were questionable once the full operation came to light. At least a demon would understand - they were known to consume humans as well. That made keeping their food source straight much easier, which was a benefit.
Still, it was easier to ask Hyeon-u her opinion. In a way he felt she would be able to make a more sound decision on the matter. She'd done it earlier, she could do it again - and she did. A trial period was a great idea, one that he hadn't even considered. It satisfied everyone's needs, and allowed a safe test of the concept of hiring lesser creatures. Well, demons, that is. Honestly, he wouldn't go much lower than that, demons were hard enough for him. Their only saving grace was that once they gave their word they were bound by it, which he always found to be interesting given their mischievous nature. "I like the sound of that," he mused, dark eyes turning to the woman once more as she picked herself up from the floor. "Do we have a deal?"
Three days would at least be enough to rest, but that was assuming nothing went wrong. Even one would be enough to get a good portion of her strength back if she ate something. As she was dusting herself off, a question was directed at her, and just stared at the two for a moment. Should a deal be made, that was it. She was bound to it, and she wasn't even sure what would happen if nothing went wrong in those three days. "Will I get to stay? If nothing goes wrong do I get to stay?"
There was a few seconds of silence after her question. He wanted so badly to say no, but then there was no point of letting her stay now, was there? She was good with the sound board, and despite how fatigued she may of been she had a respectable spirit. A fighter. "Yes."
Lishan grinned a little, nodding slightly. "Then we have a deal."
Despite not wanting her here, the gumiho prided himself on keeping his word. Sure, he didn't have to, but he did. While he was personally going to be waiting for something to go wrong, as it stood she worked here. That meant she needed to eat. Truth be told, of the people he'd gathered, only one was for himself, and at this point he'd lost his appetite. While the rest were for the staff that weren't actively on the floor, as it stood the one he'd taken for himself no longer served a purpose. Glancing behind him, a low sigh left him as he examined the woman somebody had brought in. 'My sister is so stuck up - can I just leave her here?' It was an interesting reason to him - humans were just so petty, weren't they? Leaving siblings to be killed for something so simple and easy to ignore... "Take the woman with short brown hair, leather jacket. We eat in the back rooms, you find your own food after this, understand?"
The horned woman nodded, immediately taking to the small group of people. She made quick work of sorting through them and was briefly thankful that she was the product of wrath and lust demons - it made her job so much easier. It didn't take long to have the woman in question on her arm and making their way towards the indicated space. Finding her own human after tonight wouldn't be a problem - she'd just missed her chance tonight.
