Sparrow paused and nodded while his sister sighed. She wasn't quite sure what to think. It all still had to be an elaborate hoax, right?
"There's a logical explanation to all this. The werewolf is just some dog. Some dog who got into an accident and changes its physical appearence," Robin reasoned. Sparrow eyed her for a moment before skimming the rest of the page. It read like a journal entry about his first day at Claymore Park. He scanned through the next few pages, which were mostly the same thing. Finally he reached to an interesting part.
"July 2nd, 1965. Last night was insane and the events that transpired shook me to my core. Werewolves are real, that woman I met made sure to let me know. I remember the howling beast withs its snapping jaws and teeth dripping with salvia. Carol Nancy Swanson, the woman I had met that night, killed it with a single silver bullet. Or it at least appeared dead. I managed to collect some fur clippings and a picture of the monster after its demise. I don't know who I can or should share this with, but for now I'm left to my own thoughts that plague me." He paused briefly as the Bengal meowed. Sparrow scratched him between the ears then gazed at his sister for a moment. Robin seemed unnerved at the reading.
"It's a case of mistaken identy," she quietly muttered. "It was dark and grandpa's senses were trying to fill in the gaps of what he couldn't see. He...He overreacted and simply ran into a wolf. There's no such thing-"
"Robin will you please stop saying that?! You can make a compelling arguement for the stuff at the house, but there are a hundred, probably more, files just like that one! I think it's time we stop fooling with ourselves and acknowledge that monsters are real. That vampires, werewolves, and who-knows-what-else exists." Sparrow paused for a moment and ran a hand through his brown hair. "Look I'm not excited about this either, but we need to face the facts and stop lying to ourselves. The sooner we come to terms with all this the better off we'll be."

Robin's skepticism was rather funny to the cat shifter. Little did she know that she was not only dealing with a shape-shifter at this very instance, but she was now in the middle of supernatural central. Creatures of all kinds made their home here, and when the sun went down it was their turn to play. Gifti, of course, wasn't like the creatures that were malicious and hunted down humans for prey and for sport, and he wasn't bound by whatever it was that had most of these creatures go haywire in the autumn and winter months, but he was still a supernatural creature nonetheless, and hearing Robin deny that the likes of him were just something of a hoax made him feel a burst of amusement in the depths of his chest. At least Wren - whatever his actual name was - seemed to be getting it through his head that things weren't exactly as they seemed.
After letting the two have their conversation, Gifti looked up at them and gave one last meow as he started walking around the two. He let out a mrrrr of amusement, something akin to laughter for the cat. "The boy's right, you need to be open-minded here." As soon as he finally allowed himself to give in and actually speak to the two, Gifti took a few steps away and sat down, neatly curling his tail around his paws, amber eyes directly on the twins, waiting to see their reactions.

Robin opened her mouth to reply to her brother, then the cat spoke. She glanced at Sparrow for a moment then back at the Bengal. The color drained from their faces as they stared at the feline. They were silent for a few minutes and stared at the cat, wide-eyed.
"So...did Sir Whiskers just...talk? Or am I finally losing it?" Sparrow finally asked.
"No...I actually think the cat just talked." Robin paused for a moment and leanded towards the tabby. "Did you just, um, talk?" The young woman wasn't sure if she wanted the animal to answer or not. She glanced over towards Sparrow for a moment.
"Is this your doing? Did you somehow set this up to mess with me, or...or..." Robin trailed off and ran a hand through her red hair. It was foolish to think her brother perfectly planned all that. Foolish to think that with all the evidence presented to them, that the supernatural was still simple legends.

Gifti couldn’t help but let out another little meow of laughter at the reaction he was getting. It was going better than he had expected since he had thought they’d completely freak out and lose their minds over a talking cat. There was still time for them to freak out, but right now Gifti was going to take what he was being given.
As calm as ever he stayed where he was. He looked the two over with his amber eyes, noting how the color had drained from both of their faces. It wasn’t every day that a cat talked he supposed, but their reactions were still amusing to him.
”Or maybe,” Gifti pushed himself to his paws and arched his back in a stretch, ”your logic doesn’t work here anymore.” He looked at Robin as the words slipped off his tongue, gauging her for any sort of reaction she was to give him next.

"Okay, so the cat talks, werewolves exist, and our grandparents were hiding this fact," Robin began flatly. "Is there anything else I missed? I mean frankly this is a lot to take in at once, especially because the very nature of the supernatural breaks science as we know it. I mean how did these things even remain in hiding? What else is out there? What does it mean for us?" Robin was rambling. She did it whenever she was nervous or uneasy. Sparrow quietly patted his sister on the back as she contiuned to mumble.
"Proabably a lot," Sparrow replied. "Now Sir Whiskers, what are you? Who are you and what's with this cat act?" Surprsingly, the young man was calm. Perhaps it was because of his sister freaking out or maybe he was finding the discoveries interesting. Even he wasn't entirely sure. Sparrow glanced at Robin again. She seemed to calm down slightly, though it was clear she was still unsure what to make of the current situation.
Robin took a deep breath and cleaned her glasses. She was calming down a bit more. "Okay. Alright then. Talking cat, do you know what comes put at night here? The locals are weird about whenever we asked them and you're a cat...at least I think you're a cat." The young woman narrowed her eyes for a moment. What if he wasn't really a cat? What if he was disguised for some reason. Robin glanced around for the bat. It was by the entrance of the unit, near the tabby. She began to search for a weapon, concerned about what else the feline might be hiding.

Luella let out a huff as she sat down on the bench, a disappointed look set on her face. She'd been expecting more from this family, maybe something that didn't scream middle-aged, suburban and white for once. Of course, each foster family she'd been to was the same, and each would give up after a few weeks. Opening her notebook, she glanced over the stories she'd found online. At least this place seemed somewhat interesting. Luella (Lulu, Lu, Ella), 14, new Cooper glanced up at the sky for the fourth time in the last ten minutes, a nervous glint in his eyes. Seeing that it was still bright out, a bit of stress released from him. He didn't like living here, especially after what had happened to his aunt, who'd taken him in, years ago. He tried to leave, but couldn't bring himself to. Picking up his pace, he pulled his jacket closer to his body. Cooper, 20, local Nova stared at the gently swaying trees in dismay, letting out a small sigh. The forest had given her the creeps ever since she was a little girl, so she'd done her best to avoid them. But today, for the field trip- god knows why the teacher thought it was a good idea- they'd be taking photographs of the edge of the woods. Photography had been something she'd loved, but she was already fairly low graded in the class itself; so she couldn't just skip. Huffing, she lifted the camera and began snapping pictures.

Maybe he shouldn't be thinking so harshly about Robin, she hadn't been aware of the supernatural for her entire life, but Gifti wasn't exactly fond of the whole "breaks science" comment she had made. What did science have to do with any of this? It was a flawed subject in the fact that it wasn't open to the supernatural world and all of its possibilities. There was a science behind everything about that, a supernatural science, but how did creatures that weren't recognized by some old men in white lab coats break science? Eh, that was a topic and conversation for a later time. Right now Gifti had other things to keep his mind occupied.
Now, the first order of business.
Gifti let out a huff, this time a bit of annoyance being shot toward the other male. "First off, it's not Sir Whiskers. It's Gifti. Second, being a cat is natural for me. Or, well, just as natural as it is for me to be human as well. Ever heard of shape-shifters?" He asked despite already knowing the answer; they had mentioned shape-shifters earlier. "As for what comes out at night, well..." Gifti paused for a moment, wondering how much he really could tell them. There was only so much he knew as well. "Werewolves, shape-shifters, vampires, the whole lot of them exist. Most of them are pretty solitary and won't harm a fly, but you've got some that aren't as friendly. I don't even know what a lot of those things are if I'm being honest." That was something he hated, not knowing what all was out there. It was something he was determined to change though. He was going to go and figure what all was out there - figure out what had taken his sister from him all those years ago.

Aster quietly continued along her path. There was still enough daylight left before she really had to start worrying, however it was a good idea to start heading home. This was especially the case because she lived with her uncle outside of town on a sizable piece of land. Things were creepy in and around town, but it was even moreso outside in the surrounding forest.
The nineteen-year-old glanced around at the various residents as she passed them. She would offer a smile or friendly wave as she passed, which they would return. She knew most of the locals around, especially the store owners. Of course that had everything to do with her parents previous owning the flower shop before their disappearance. As Aster strolled along the path, she passed a redheaded girl on a bench. She was clearly younger, though likely not by a lot. The blonde didn't recognize her and she didn't seem to be in a hurry.
"Hi," she greeted merrily. "I don't think I've seen you around here before."

Luella had been so deep in thought that she hadn't even realized somebody had approached her until they began to talk. Glancing up, she let out a huff. "No dip Sherlock. And it's not like I'll be around for long-" she grumbled, hurriedly closing the notebook she'd been scribbling in. In all honesty, the teenager hadn't expected a stranger to come up to her and greet her. She'd have instead thought people would be wary of one another with all the rumors.
Grumbling, she stuck her hand out. "Luella. Does weird stuff really happen here?" she questioned with curiosity, an excited spark in her eye as she inquired. "Or is that just one of those dull urban legends..."

Robin contiuned to glance around for anything to use as a possible weapon. She was unsure about the cat, suspicious about what else he could be hiding. The cat spoke once more as the young woman slowly stood up. Sparrow glanced at his sister briefly, before returning his gaze to the feline.
The young man let out a soft laugh. "Alright, Gifti. Sorry about the name, I can tell you hate it. And I can confirm we both know what shapeshifters are. So you're a shapeshifter who can have human food so why eat the cat food? It looked disgusting." Sparrow paused for a moment as Gifti contiuned. Even Robin stopped briefly, interested in what the shapeshifter had to say.
"Okay so a ton of supernatural creatures and monsters come out at night. Does that mean anyone we've spoken to, anyone we've interacted with could be one of those things?" Sparrow inquired. A slight chill rolled down his spine at the thought. They had a couple of run ins with a few of the locals. Rather Robin had a few run ins. Sparrow wondered if anyone would want to seek revenge for past interactions.

Aster stepped back, surprised at the girl's tone. Instead of being mad, she offered a friendly smile. "I apologize if I interrupted anything, though that's no excuse to be rude." She took another bite of her sandwhich as she glanced at the redhead for a moment. Some people were naturally rude, but most had reasons for acting they way they did. Off days, stressful environments, and bad news tended to be the causes. There would be no use in being rude back. Beyond that it was, well, rude.
Aster chewed the inside of her lip at the mention of urban legends. It was one of those "urban legends" that took her parents almost ten years ago as far as she was concerned. "I'm Aster by the way. Aster Sarene Muns. Well there's certainly something out there. Weird stuff. Scary stuff that has never really been explained." It was normal to her. Every autumn had been like this as long as she could remember. To an outsider, which that girl seemed like, the strange events that plagued Echo Ridge were written off a untrue.

The girl's eyes visibly brightened up, her expression crying out in excitement. She'd seen a few papers and read up on a few websites about the stories and whatnot, but experiences from an actual resident were priceless. Smiling and nodding, she patted an empty spot on the bench beside her and flipped through her notebook hastily. Stopping on a page with newspaper clippings and scribbles, she angled the book towards Aster.
"Did any of this actually happen?"

Aster noticed the girl's sudden change in behavior. Her dull expression became bright with enthusiasm while her eyes almost glowed with anticipation. When the girl offered a spot next to her, Aster chewed the inside of her cheek again. She had to make it home, but talking with the stranger, Luella, was enticing to her. With a friendly smile, Aster took the spot beside her. As soon as she sat down, the younger teen flipped through her notebook, stopping at a page filled with articles and notes.
The blonde recognized what the writings were talking about. It was a piece from the previous fall when a man had been savagely attacked by some creature and killed. A chill rolled down the girl's spine, remembering how uneasy everyone had been after the attack. The papers speculated it was simply a wild animal, though rumors in the town thought it was a vampire. After a moment, Aster nodded.
"It's true. There was a creature, likely a vampire, that killed that guy."

Luella had expected an unusual answer from the girl, but such speculation- a vampire of all things- had caught her off-guard. Maybe all the residents here were part of one big drug cult or something, to come up with a vampire. Exhaling lightly through her nose, she flipped the page again- this time printed pictures of doggish, vampiric, and undead looking creatures filling the paper.
"So you're saying stuff like this might actually be here? Do you guys have like some kind of satanic cults? Or maybe like- wild raves that go too far? 'Cause I think it'd be pretty kickass if there were some nonhuman stuff in there-" she gestured towards the woods, questions spewing from her mouth before she could think. "Eh, sorry, that was rude..." she grumbled, carefully closing the notebook and sliding down a bit.

Well, the name thing went a lot easier than had expected. Maybe he shouldn't be so quick to judge that either of the twins would have extreme reactions to anything he said or did as they were starting to prove that his assumptions were typically wrong. Even still, he was glad the boy wasn't going to keep referring to him as Sir Whiskers. "Get a real cat if you want one with that name," he pointed out with a quick shrug of his slender shoulders before jumping back into the more important conversation at the moment. But first he had to answer the cat food question. Whiskers twitching, Gifti looked at Wren with the faintest flicker of amusement in his eyes. "It was rather good, and food is food. Sure, human food can be tastier, but cat food isn't bad, either." Cat or human his taste buds didn't really discriminate between what kind of food he ate. Now back to the more important topic of supernatural creatures. He nodded at the inquiry made by the dubbed Wren. "It does. Anybody could be anything out here. Most likely if they're out during the day they're not, say, a vampire or something that requires the night to give them energy, but that still leaves a wide range of creatures you could run into." Perhaps that wasn't exactly reassuring, but it was the truth, and if these two were going to survive Echo Ridge then they needed to know the truth about it all. Sparrow laughed at Gift's comment. We really should get a proper pet, he thought. The young man nodded at the other comment. "That's good to know. Well moreso interesting I suppose and smart. I mean we honestly wouldn't have done anything for you if you were human. Especially because of that run in with that weird...guy..." Sparrow trailed off and glanced at his sister. She looked at him, as though having the same epiphany.
"We'll have to keep an eye out for that guy," she muttered. Great, another thing we have to worry about, she thought bitterly. For the moment she pushed the thought away and turned her attention back towards Gifti. She nodded along as he spoke, hanging onto every word. It was certainly more information they got than before. However Robin was still uneasy about all this. Just a few hours ago the supernatural was fake. Stories people told around campfires to freak each other out, not fact.
"So do you know of anyone in town specifically who are these creatures? Or anyone we should avoid?" Sparrow inquired curiously. He wasn't entirely sure if he wanted the answer or not. As her brother spoke, Robin's gazed at Gifit once more. The talking cat bit wasn't her favorite thing and made her rather uncomfortable. Cats didn't talk. At least normal cats. After a moment, the young woman spoke up.
"So can you shift into a human? Talking to a cat is...not something I'd like to contiune doing." She was blunt about her concerns and didn't really care if she insulted the shapeshifter.
-0-
The nineteen-year-old took a quick look over the pictures. She nodded. "Yup that's exactly what I'm saying. I shouldn't be so blunt about it, it's all just speculation after all. But most people agree a vampire did it." Aster hesitated for a moment and took another bite of her mostly gone sandwhich. Luella probably found it all crazy and unbelievable, which the young woman could hardly blame her for. A majority of people didn't believe in the supernatural and on paper it all sounded insane.
"As far as I know at least, there are no satan-worshipping cults in the are or parties that have gone too far. I'm not sure how long you've been around, but people hide in their houses at night. We're in by five in the evening when the sun doesn't set until hours later. Children don't play or explore the forest and always stay within the town or the neighborhood." She paused again and giggled lightly at the girl's last comment. A twinge of guilt tugged at her chest briefly. One of those things took her parents.
The girl turned her attention back towards the stranger. "No need to apologize, just be careful. You wouldn't want to make comments like that around certain people. My sister and uncle are two of them." Aster paused for a moment. Obviously the newcomer wouldn't know who they were.

The girl's cheerful expression dropped like a bowling ball from a building. She felt guilty for asking such questions, especially when she had no regard for Aster's feelings. Smiling apologetically, she stood up and began to tuck the pen she'd had into her pocket. "I know I just met you, but do you think you could do me a solid?" Lu inquired hesitantly, an embarrassed but cheeky grin on her face.

Aster's grind melted into a concerned look. Had she said something that changed Luella's mood? She didn't have time to really think it over before the girl's expression turned into a sheepish smile as she stood up. Aster remained on the bench and finished her sandwhich as the newcomer spoke.
Her hazel eyes gleamed with curiosity. It was an interesting question, leaving Aster wondering what she wanted. The young woman returned Luella's smile. "Alright, what do you want?" The girl was curious to see what the teen had to say and hoped she could help her.

Gifti -- AmberGifti's ears perked up in interest when the two brought something up about a weird guy. Now that could be just about anybody in the town if the cat was being honest, but he was curious about this and now had his own questions to direct toward the twins. "Weird guy?" He questioned with a tilt of his head. "What weird guy?" Maybe Gifti would know him. He knew a decent amount of people in the town and if the two wanted to know who they had run into the chances that Gifti knew who it was was rather large. There was the chance he didn't know, but it was worth a shot. The cat's eyes narrowed ever slightly when he was asked if there was anybody in town they should avoid or anybody in two who were specifically some sort of creature. "I know of a few, but none that would be particularly harmful. If I'm being honest with you, I don't know a whole lot about other creatures, or at least I don't know much about the ones that can and will hurt others. Most of us are rather benevolent, but sometimes you get some that aren't as friendly. For some reason Echo Ridge attracts a lot of the bad ones, but they stay a lot more hidden than ones like me." His explination was a really roundabout way of him saying "I don't know anything about the bad ones just like you" to be completely honest. Gifti knew more about the peaceful creatures than he did the bloodthirsty ones. If he knew who the bloodthirsty ones were then he'd already have had his revenge for them taking his sister. When Robin mentioned she'd be more comfortable not talking to a cat, Gifti looked back over at her for a moment. He let out a slow sigh; maybe he should shift back to his human form now. After all, he could only do so much as a cat, and as a human he would be a lot more efficient in helping look around for anything that their grandma had left behind in the storage unit. Within seconds there was no longer a cat with the twins, but instead a man with those same amber eyes and fluffy beige hair that matched the color of his fur minus the darker brown rosettes. "Happy now?" He asked, crossing his arms across his chest as he looked at Robin. Lillian -- 《Kᥲιrσʂ》Photography had always been a class Lillian enjoyed. It was something she could use to keep her mind off of things and just focus on the good in life. She was a tad bit nervous over the fact that the teacher wanted them to go out and take pictures of the treeline, but there was still daylight and that meant they should be safe. Nothing would be out there just yet, and Lillian had to keep telling herself that over and over. She was doing rather well with keeping herself together, but it wasn't long until something moved in the nearby underbrush just beyond the treeline that started Lillian. Already having been on edge from the start, the young woman jumped back as if about to run away, but instead of running away all she managed to do was run right into the side of one of her classmates. Lillian turned, green eyes wide and growing even wider when she saw that she had run right into Nova. Immediately she felt like she was shrinking into her skin, worry washing over her like a wave. "I'm...I'm sorry," she murmured, voice no more than a whisper as she stood there, unable to meet Nova's gaze with her own. She flinched back as she shifted her gaze down to the grass below, hoping beyond everything that her classmate wouldn't be too mad with her for her mistake.
