I really like the small thing you did for SkyClan. The pink color isn't something I've seen before and it's very calming.

One thing can also be said about the New Warrior covers - they have stunning backgrounds. The WCRP one is cool too!

I really like the colors they use in the new Warriors covers. They're easier to work with and overall super pleasing to the eye. Thanks! <3

Oh yes! I agree! They often don't blur/glow exactly how you'd like on the old covers. But I like the anatomy on the original cover's cats more than the new ones. ^^ Maybe I'm just a traditionalist.
Do you use paint.net or something else?

Post by Sand on Oct 4, 2019 19:23:48 GMT -5
I don't care much for the anatomy on the new ones either, so I can definitely respect that. I do like the way the new ones kinda have a glow to it though.
I use Photoshop CC. I've used Paint.net in the past but it's usually for small edits.

Fire scene one was cool. There's very little use for the Darkest Hour cover though ... *shudders* Oh I've never heard of that! I wouldn't be so lucky for it to be free, would I? I tend to use paint.net because familiar platform ... and I've been using it a year and I still don't know what I'm doing. Either way, your graphics have always been really well made. Pfft. I remember when ya were appointed a mod I looked through who was there and went something like 'talked to that person once on the old forums' (Felix), 'RP with that person' (Shiningdiamond), and 'got a banner from that one' (You). I don't think we've talked much in the past three years or before that. o.o Real shame. I get a bit glow effect happy on my banners, if I'm being honest. It must glow or have a drop shadow. It must!

That’s true, but it’s a nice cover so I don’t mind it. if I remember correctly, creative cloud has a free trial for 14 days and after that it’s a paid subscription. I have mine for the school I’m going to as I’m a web design major. It’s a really nice combination of apps though! I think I’ve had paint.net for a couple of years. It’s relatively easy to navigate which is nice but I still don’t think I really got the hang of it. You’re probably right— I should make better of that; I’d love to get to know you! glow & drop shadow effects are a guilty pleasure of mine, hhh they can be so well used and turn out pretty too.

I think I like some of the newer ones the most. The fact that they include more than one cat and the dynamics are cool. Most of the AVoS covers.
Ahhhh. I might look at it just to see what it's like. I'm an English major, so little chance to have access to such a program. XD I like poking around paint.net when I'm board and write now I'm making fake movie intros in it, so that's fun.
Same here! You seem real chill! o.o Good start: What are some of your interests?
I also like 'Add Noise' if it's done very lightly and also 'Soften'. Because I like anything that makes a picture look soft and glowing however that may be. But glow and drop shadow is certainly the preferred ones. Also, I like finding cool fonts. Cool fonts really make a banner in my humble opinion.

AVOS had good covers, minus the floating cat head ones. I like when they have more than 1 character in it because I feel like it's less boring to look at? If that makes sense.
It's a good program so far! I enjoy what comes in the Adobe Creative Cloud package-- there's things used for fonts or font creations. Being an English major must take a lot of time up. I can only imagine all the things you study & learn... I didn't really like English once I got to high school but before that it was something I liked.
hmm. I'd say listening to music, reading, crime shows/documentaries, my cat, and obviously graphic & web design. I also really like going to concerts and sport events. What about you?
yeees, soften just makes things so pretty and subtle. It's definitely a guilty pleasure for me. omg, fonts. DON'T GET ME STARTED. I have to take a typography class sometime soon and it's one thing I'm looking forward to. Dafont is worth spending like an hour or two browsing it for fonts... even if I don't need to download more, I do it anyways. fonts + banners = amazing things you can do with an art program

Agreed! I get what you're saying! And yeah, the floating cat head ones are exceptions.
Font creation! Now that I could get into! My hand writing is interesting, but I would prefer to create something legible but also 'mine'.
Indeed! I'm currently taking Intro to Brit. Lit. You read a lot as an English major and write a lot of papers. For some reason I've been fostering a love for writing papers. I like how it makes me feel to show people what I'm seeing and I like how constructing a paper feels like I'm putting together a puzzle. If the puzzle was picture face down. Because I'm that sort of person. But that aside, I want to become a librarian and that needs an English degree! ;P And I want to write, but that doesn't really need any degree, so I figure why not?
What genre of music do you like? I listen to all sorts of music as the mood strikes me. LOVE reading. I'll also read just about anything, though fantasy and sci-fi are probably the larger genres I've amassed. WW2 fiction as well. Pfft. I know a lot of old crime and detective shows. Documentaries are awesome though! Caaaaats. I've had three cats in my life and I want another. I like going to local concerts! And I draw! Most anything, though fan art always motivates me. I'm hoping to illustrate my own books or maybe do some side comics or something of the like.
So many guilt pleasures. XD I found a crazy way to fracture a picture recently that makes fun patterns so I've been doing things with that.
Foooooooonts are everything. Oooo! That sounds like such a fun class! I didn't know there was such a thing! And I was going to ask what site you used for fonts! It's the same one I use, heh. I get lost in that place. It has so much good stuff and I have to resist downloading it all. Agreed! The one thing I'm a bit annoyed about is that all my art programs are either really good at banners or really good for drawing, but not both.

Oh, god, my handwriting is absolutely terrible-- it looks like chicken scratch and I can hardly read it sometimes. so, I wouldn't make a font out of my handwriting lmao
I didn't mind writing papers for English, but after the first two or so, I really dreaded it unless we had good topics that I could base off of. I don't miss paper writing at all though, but I'm glad you enjoy it! It's nice to see people enjoy something that others may not like too much. That's true! You might learn new things along the way too.
Oooh, music; I like way too many genres honestly. I'll listen to anything except for country, classic, metal (or screamo), or like the emo kind of music. Recently, I've been listening to a lot of house music from RUFUS DU SOL which I saw in concert. Lots of strobe lights but it was amazing, especially how each color of light and movement fit the mood of the song. My favorite genres to read are mystery, thriller, crime... I'm a huge crime junkie so not hard to catch me there. I try to catch most detective shows too, they're something I love to watch. I've only had one cat, who's currently 2 years old named Gemini. He's a big baby that's pretty timid yet ornery. ahh, that's so cool! Illustrating books would be an awesome thing to do, even side comics too.
geometric pictograms for me right now. they're satisfying to look at for some reason and I don't know why.
it sounds super fun, so I'm hoping it will be! Resisting dafont is so hard though, I'm trying to not download any fonts yet on my new laptop but it's so tempting. yeah, I had that issue for a while before I got paint.net. I tried using GIMP, but its set up was too confusing for me. after that, I switched over to paint.net and photoshop which made things easier.

I have a feeling that my handwriting is ellegible to all but me. But apparently professors can read it, so I guess that must mean I'm not completely right.
Agreed! I have good friends who enjoy math ... and I shudder at the very thought. I was amazed to find out that this class ALL of us were English majors. Which ... never happens. Even according to my professor. Which on the one hand is good, but on the other I suddenly felt that my paper writing skills were going to be really rusty. Either way, I had fun. A topic when I'm reading about something always seems to stick out at me. I found this YT channel a while back that talks about history, mythology, and literature and I'd been wanting to read some of those books they talked about for ages. So I finally did and topics just seem to jump out at me. Maybe because I have background ... What do you enjoy about your field of study? Any cool things you learned while working on it that you didn't know before?
I have an issue with Electronic, which is unfortunatate because I think I'd like it otherwise. The cords just always hit my ears wrong. Otherwise, some heavier metal doesn't work with my ears. But really that seems to be most of the reasons I reject a genre. And even then, I can still find artists within those genres that I enjoy that don't work against my sensory issues. Ha! Growing up where I grew up, you have to like country. And my dad likes classic, so I ended up with a taste for it. But as soon as I learned that I could request my parents to change channels I abused this as a small child. As soon as me or my sister got in a car we'd request anything that had lyrics. This was usually pop/rock (my mom's favorite genre), but also included Jazz, World, and several other genres. Guess I just got a curious taste from that. RUFUS DU SOL. I did indeed just look them up and added them to a spotify playlist. :3 Mystery! Heh. Ever read the Joe Grey Mysteries? I have so many good memories of that series. Maybe it's just the fact I read the first book in NC during True and Beautiful Fall, when the air was crisp and I was still reading by LED candlelight. Hah. I think other than possible Sherlock, Lucifer, and ... there was another one that ended ... was about a detective and it was kind of Sci-fi and she was trying to catch a murderer by a lot of weird time things having to do with a radio ... whatever that one was. I've watched those three, but those are about as close to detective I've gotten. Unless you want old detective. Rockford Files are still a favorite, I will not lie.
Gemini is an amazing name. We had a cat recently called Psychology, but he ran away.
Makes sense. That's not far from what I've been doing lately, I don't think.
I found one called Call of the Wild I think and I've been abusing it. Also, I had one called Moonflower on my old computer and as soon as it bit the dust I had to find it again. Unfortunatly, I couldn't remember the other font I used religiously for dramatic banners. Lost, but not forgotten.
If I want to draw anything, it has to be done in Firealpaca. Then I have to save it and then move it to Paint.net. That's how it's working out so far, it would seem.

I don't write too often besides for a journal I have to keep for medical info and even when my family or someone else looks at it, they have to ask me... "what letter/number, or what word is this?" a majority of the time i don't know, so i just guess around lol
It's either English or Math, it's never both. I'm currently learning 2 programs that are like the "heart" to web design, so Photoshop & Illustrator. I've learned more about what tools are specific for like, for example, there's a tool called a curvature tool-- designers use this to edit (for example) models' heads. You basically select the area you want, move it on top of another body, adjust whatever you need to (lighting, color, etc) and you have a new person! It's difficult for me though so I'm not sure if or when I'll use that. It's come up in most of our projects so far. Also learned this week about another tool, the pen tool, which allows you to do a lot of things especially in a clipping mask or layer mask. I like the pen tool the best because it's easiest for me lmao. I get to learn type face this upcoming week so I'm excited!
I get that, for me it's classical music. No thank you, no thank you. Where I live and have grown up, everyone's into country music and I just can't get into it. It's annoying to me and I'll never ever listen to it by choice. I really like world music, specifically French or Italian music because that's what my dad grew up listening to. I found an album from an artistic I really like that's all in Spanish and for some reason I enjoy it. Aaaah, let me know how you feel about them c:
I've never heard of those books, but now I'll look for one! I need to get back into reading an actual book since I have like 3 unread books sitting around. I'm hoping I can do that at night or push myself to at least. The one with the radio sounds so familiar to me, but I'm not sure why. Netflix is addictive and now I've watched like 3 different shows on it. I finished Breaking Bad a few weeks ago and loved it, so I wanna try Better Call Saul. I'm also watching Narcos and The Sinner. I haven't tried Sherlock-- is it worth it?
That's such a cute name<3. Aw, hopefully Psychology is somewhere safe x(.
It's bad that I have Adobe Fonts now. it's ruined me and my life because i can look through the lists and lists of fonts for days and find new ones to download. I love the font Moonflower, it's easy to read. I'm gonna find the Call of the Wild now since I'm invested. I'll pray for that font to come back, I swear.
I'm learning how to draw with shapes which I didn't think was possible. I'm not the type that's creative by nature or with my brain so it's taken me a while to get a hold of it and think creatively. So far I really enjoy doing faux 3D houses, but I hate long, thin rectangles.
I had to so something similar w/ my old laptop; I found it easier to apply text in paint.net versus photoshop elements 12. elements was not created for warping text and doing cool things with it, so everything took an extra step or two. paint.net did not which was something i was thankful for.

Well, at least my handwriting hasn't gotten that bad. I think it also keeps shifting around slowly as I end up writing a letter one way one time ... and then it sticks.
Surprising I did know someone who liked both. Once. All of once. Oooo! What's type face? That sounds interesting? As for all those tools, those sound awesome. I personally think it would be hard to use the first one because I can think of a lot of components that would probably go into it. As for the second, I will have to admit that I have still yet to figure out what a mask is. And I honestly have been unable to figure out what they're for either. XD
Oh yes. Growing up with country. Totally don't know what you know mean by that. XD I love German right about now. And French, because my friend keeps suggesting me French.
I have so many book suggestions you have no idea. I'm reading - or rather rereading - a Discworld book. I have not watched any of those. But I can vouch that Sherlock is worth it. It's fun.
I do as well!
I would have something like that ruin my life. It seems like a mildly handy way to be ruined. But also takes up a lot of space ...
That's super cool! Hey, as long as you're having fun I think that's what counts! I'd love to design houses though. That would be really awesome just to plot out things like where my characters live.
Yeeeeeep.

My letters don't always look the same, it's almost as if someone else writes it whenever I have to write things down. I've basically gone completely to typing so I can at least read it.
My sister was once like that. Not sure how, but it's strange. Type face is basically typography. Photoshop is definitely not the place for that as Illustrator and InDesign are more preferred for it since you can create fonts and whatnot in there. The nice thing about Photoshop for type face is that it's quick and easy; it's nothing fancy looking. It issss. Now that I understand the clipping masks, layer masks, and select + masks, I feel more comfortable with them. I know how to use the pen tools in Photoshop pretty well, but we just learned them in Illustrator and I cannot trace if my life were to depend on it.
xD I grew up listening to French and Italian music, so I really like those. German's good too, but now I really wanna listen to French music.
What's a Discworld book? I'm curious now. I'll try Sherlock during Christmas break, I won't have much to do but sleep & spend time with my sister and cat.
That's true. I'm trying to avoid the temptation this week because we learned about fonts briefly in photoshop and now I just wanna download the ones I find pretty.
I enjoyed it. I did not, however, enjoy tracing a hummingbird and a palm tree. I kept messing up with too many points, so I kept adding and deleting every other minute. I think designing a house would be fun, especially with the flooring, kitchen, cabinets, and other things you can piece together. Being an interior designer would be super cool.

Makes sense. I prefer typing anyway. I do it a lot faster.
Quick and easy is always nice when it comes to me who just spent two hours trying to fix my headphones. Tracing is surprisingly hard in any format. You ever tried doing so with what you're tracing is upside down?
If you have any recommendations for French songs I'd be interested!
The Discworld books were written by Terry Pratchett. Most popular one around this time would be Hogfather. Since it's themed off Christmas. They're fantasy-humor. And they can be read in any order. That sounds like a really good time honestly. Me and my family are watching movies.
I gave into the temptation, whoops.
Ooooooooooouch. Those sound so hard to trace. But the other "point" about designing houses would be cool!

I think I average about 100 words every 5 minutes when I write by hand. As veeeeeeeery interesting as that fact is. XD
I did it once and the person ended up looking like a frog when right side up. It's fun to do when you don't have to do it for work. Didn't fix the headphones though. I just got knew ones.
Alright!
Yesssss. It's really fun. A lot of the movies can be found on YT too. What game?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Yes indeed! Which fonts?
There can be jagged hearts and speech bubbles.

That's faster than I can write by hand or possibly type. xD
That's true. I was trying to design a cake today for my final project and I got fed up with having to draw the icing over and over so I chose to copy & paste the layers. At least it all looks uniform now. What brand of headphones did you get?
Must. Look. Town of Salem. I usually play that or Mario Kart.
Oooh okay, we've a list here... aaand it's more than 5 fonts now: - Adorns Pomander Bold - AdornS Serif - Ainsdale Medium (had to download it for a lecture) - Astounder Squared BB - Bebas Neue Rounded Regular - Casablanca URW - Corundum Text - Didot LT Pro - Filicudi Soft - Kapelka New - Lakeside - Madre Script - Mina Regular - Novecento Sans Wide (has 8 options) - Novecento Slab - Rift Soft (2 options) - Shelby (2 options) - Slabo 13px - Starling (3 options) - Trade Gothic Next Pro (downloaded for a lecture)
I agree! Hopefully my tracing improves. I think I may spend my break doing random project briefs or whatever, I don't want to forget everything I've learned so far.

Ha! Yes, I totally relate to giving up in that way. I'd do the same thing. Technically the headphones are fine (they're Skull Candy). I gave them to my sister. My computer has a really weird glitch that's apparently common for Windows user were the headphones don't work. I found out, however, that Sony headphones are the only type which do work. It's infuriating, but I at least found and bought a cheep pair.
I have never heard of Town of Salem. o.o
And for some reason I couldn't find any of those fonts. Odd.
I wish I had that dedication. I did nowhere near enough studying for my test on Tuesday.

Oohh, I see. I have Senneheiser's but they're not wireless, so I don't have to worry about bluetooth connection to my laptop. My sister has Beats and those connect to her laptop. Sony has good headphones though, but it sucks they're one of the few that can connect to Windows.
It's fun but sometimes toxic depending on the kind of people you end up in a lobby with.
They're on Adobe Fonts or MyFonts if I remember correctly.
I know I won't end up doing it, but I might try; we'll see. I hardly studied for tests when I had them.
