Surprised at how quickly the tom responded, and the lack of weariness coating his voice, Brackenpaw could only assume that his mentor had been awake for a while. I should've come out here quicker. The more training we do, the better warrior I'll become. The apprentices' eyes lit up at the mention of leaving immediately, though he pasted a serious expression on his face. "Where are we training?" he asked. "What are we doing today?" Questions poured out of him as if they were liquid, but the tom couldn't help it. If he wanted to focus on today's lesson, then he wanted to be well informed.

Bluepelt | Camp | rose
Bluepelt simply smirked at Brackenpaw. "You'll see when we get there, and yes I certainly don't look like a mouse, please, just keep quiet." A sparkle erupted in his eyes, he turned around, beckoning his apprentice with his long tail. He knew Brackenpaw had difficulty with training, he was so delicate and easily distracted, he wish his peers and Brackenpaw's peers would see that and not paint an image of Bluepelt's responsibility based on his apprentice, it was rather infuriating.

brackenpaw | camp | ᵇ ʳ ⁱ ᵍ ʰ ᵗ - bluepelt As soon as Bluepelt flicked his tail, Brackenpaw was right behind him. He was determined to get sufficient training done today - he had, after all, gotten a good night of plentiful sleep. He focused on keeping a steady pace behind his mentor, though the tom found himself stopping every so often, only to see how quickly his bounds would take him to where he should be. "I really want to know where we're going, Bluepelt," he mewled. The pair had now exited camp completely, and the smooth terrain underfoot was now becoming sharper and more difficult to navigate.

Bluepelt | exiting camp (approaching fields) | rose
Bluepelt couldn't help but let out a chuckle, "You probably know now." He inclined his head towards the tall grass and long stalks of the lavender, which pumped a sickly smell that choked his throat. He had grown used to the harsh environment underfoot, it felt just as smooth as the camp floor to him. He was planning to place Brackenpaw in an area where he would be easily distracted, but placed in a scenario in which he was faced with a life-threatening challenge which he had to retain focus upon. It was a risk he had to take in order to ensure Brackenpaw's success.

brackenpaw | fields | ᵇ ʳ ⁱ ᵍ ʰ ᵗ Brackenpaw's eyes widened at the realization of where he and his mentor were. Going through the forest had seemed odd at first - sure, prey resided within the trees, but he knew that neither he nor Bluepelt would be able to catch a squirrel if it were to escape up a tree. "W-why are we here?" he asked, his voice merely a squeak. He had heard tale of rogues living in the fields from the elders when he was a kit, and the stories had loomed over his head hauntingly ever since. The tom gulped, staring at the vast span of grass before him. He padded forward, his paws sinking into moistened earth from rainfall that had occured a while before, and thin, tall blades of grass, threatening to make his mentor lose him in their grasp. Bluepelt wouldn't possibly bring me somewhere unsafe. Rogues don't live here; it was just a kits' tale.

Bluepelt | South side of fields (closer to forest) | rose
He could smell his apprentice's fear-scent, and whipped around. "When you are a warrior, you must not fear a field, it is simply tricking you into submission." Bluepelt decided to flatten out a track of grass so it would be easier if they were ever in need of a quick way to escape, he then waded through the stalks of lavender and grass and sat down, facing his apprentice with solid, stern eyes. "I've noticed throughout our training sessions that you are easily distracted doing simple tasks, thus leading to failure. This must not continue, Brackenpaw, as it will lead to the downfall of your warrior career." He stopped to scan the area, the smell of rogue was stale, they had been here yesterday at dawn, probably hunting, they would not come until tonight, they had plenty of time. He faced his apprentice again. "If you get distracted during a major battle, you will lose instantly; your opponent will detect your distraction and seize their opportunity, you must stay focused. Are you ready?"

Softpaw nodded and followed his mentor, his normally kind and carefree gaze filled with worry for his mentor. Padding along the tom steadily scented the air, making sure of which way the wind was blowing as well. His brown fur made him blend into his surroundings somewhat as he gazed around, his deep blue eyes searching for any signs of prey or signs of danger, knowing one should always be alert in case of predators coming into the territory.

Brackenpaw's head bobbed in a nod, his expression void and focused. The tom searched his mind for something, anything, he remembered from his previous training, but there - sitting across from his mentor, their eyes locked - the gears in his head stopped turning and he could barely think straight. If he attacks then I can duck and twist. A belly rake if I'm pinned. The tom tried his best to keep his eyes off of his surroundings. A lack of distraction was key to today's training, that he knew. But if rogues attack - no, they won't. They can't. Bluepelt wouldn't bring me somewhere unsafe. As he stared into his mentor's eyes, those were the words that rung throughout his head. Bluepelt wouldn't bring me somewhere unsafe. Bluepelt wouldn't bring me somewhere unsafe. The words repeated themselves so many times that the apprentice now fully believed them, and he was free to empty his mind; it was now void again, its only focus being on what the blue-gray cat in front of him would do.

Bluepelt | South of Field | rose
"Good, you seem focused, always, always focus on your target, block out any useless noises, noises or objects that don't serve purpose in this situation." He slowly informed him, his voice convincing enough. Bluepelt dropped low, barely visible under the grass. "I am a rogue, spotted on your territory and challenging you to battle, you do not want to kill your opponent, you simply want to show him your position of dominance, yes, you are an apprentice, but show this rogue that apprentices are more powerful than they seem." He imitated aggressive growling, claws sheathed for safety's sake, hackles raised, incisors beared, and his eyes were staring Brackenpaw dead in the face. "Do not let me limit your actions, I am simply a cat, even though the grass hides your view you will still search for a weakness, even though I am about to attack you will still defend, do you understand?"
Cypress | Edge Of Rogue Camp
Cypress watched with stern eyes at the cats positioned in the field, with Eclipse by her side. She felt no desire to attack, they weren't on her side of the field, after all, it was a mentor training an apprentice, she would at least have the heart to let them train in peace, but she still kept a keen eye on them if they did decide to tresspass.

ashstripe | the forest's edge | Jekyll Ashstripe had taken the lead on the way towards the forest. Though he'd traveled these paths many times before, the shift from rocky terrain to soft grass under his paw pads was always an odd sensation. The wind carried bird song towards the pair, and the tom gave a silent prayer to StarClan in somewhat of a call and response. Bird song means at least some prey is awake in the forest. The large gray tom halted suddenly - the forest loomed before him like a group of two-legs - beckoning him closer, though littered with dark secrets. He sat facing Softpaw. With the leaves losing their green and the air growing colder, there was no use in returning to camp empty-pawed. "So, Softpaw," he meowed, looking sternly at his apprentice. The dark gray tom felt that review was always necessary. If a bird were to show itself during their hunt, Ashstripe intended to add the knowledge of hunting birds as prey to his apprentices' skillset. But what use is hunting a bird when he doesn't remember how to get the basics? "When you're hunting a mouse, what techniques do you use?"

Softpaw nodded and began to go through what should be done when hunting a mouse. "You should make sure you are downwind of the prey so it won't scent you and should always use a proper hunting crouch. While moving toward your prey keep your tail still and be sure you don't step on anything that could break or crackle, which could then alert the prey ad cause it to run. Once you pounce you should kill your target quickly and give thanks to Starclan for the prey afterwards."

brackenpaw | the field | ᵇ ʳ ⁱ ᵍ ʰ ᵗ "Yes, I understand." At the role of a rogue that Bluepelt had assumed, Brackenpaw arched his back instinctively. Search for a weakness. Duck and twist. If I get the chance, I should attack first, right? But in a real scenario it would probably be the rogue to attack first. Besides, he has the advantage; I can't see him as well but he can see me clear as day. His green eyes were trained to the shape that was his mentor, though the apprentices' eyes were now alive with focus. Stalks of lavender swayed hauntingly around the pair, but still, Brackenpaw waited for the attack. It's going to come suddenly... right?

ashstripe | the forest's edge | Jekyll Ashstripe nodded slowly. "Very good. Although, you have to remember to take all of your weight into your haunches, or your paws will have an impact on the forest floor - alerting your prey of your presence, and consequently, making that mouse no longer your prey." He knows what he's talking about, but still... am I not being hard enough on him? He's only six moons old, but that gives me only about six moons to train him. How will he ever survive the journey to Star Rock? The tom glanced back at the ball of fluff that was his apprentice and sighed. I will not have a repeat of what happened to Swiftpaw. "Just remember what I just told you, and you should be fine. If StarClan so allows it, I'm hoping to teach you the proper method to catch a bird today; if you're able to get one of good size, the Clan is able to feed all of the mouths in the nursery, as well as the elders' den with just that one piece. It's a very useful skill to have."

Softpaw quickly nodded his head, his fur bushing out in excitement as he turned toward the forest. "I can't wait! I hope I catch a big one that everyone can share. Wouldn't that be something!?" He chuckled lightly before turning quiet, remembering that if he was to loud he would scare off any potential prey.

Bluepelt | South Of Fields | rose
Bluepelt instantly spotted a weakness, Brackenfur was waiting for him to attack, his back was arched, so that gave him less stable legs due to the fact he's using more muscle arching his back than steadying his legs. He instantly dove downwards, knocking Brackenpaw off of his paws with brute force and standing tall above the young apprentice, who, had obviously fallen due to the force of the blow. Bluepelt signalled with his tail that this particular session had ended, he wanted no response from his apprentice until he had begun explaining what happened and why, before that, however, he tilted his posture upwards and scanned the sun, which was slowly advancing towards the middle of the sky. "You need to sieze every opportunity in battle, Brackenpaw, never let a battle slip beneath your grasp," He looked back down at his apprentice, "You did well with your posture, but an arched back sticks out of the grass, I could see your brown back, that was one of many minor faults, you would have been lucky to have won this battle with such execution."

ashstripe | the forest | Jekyll
A ghost of a smile crept onto Ashstripe’s face. “Yes, I do suppose that would be something.” The tom turned, flicking his tail as a signal to the younger tom to follow him. He began padding slowly into the forest - around him, the once vast, open land was now beginning to close in, as the forest became denser. Overhead, large green tree tops bunched together, some pockets of earth being shadowed completely by the large plants. The bird song continued, though when the gray tom peered upwards, he saw nothing but foliage. The ground sunk slightly below his paws - it was very different from the usual rocky terrain. The tom opened his mouth to speak - the small trek through the forest had rendered their hunt for a bird useless, it seemed, and the song seemed now to be nothing less than a taunt. Although, rather than words coming out, the wind carried a scent in. A bird was near; tasting the air, he came to the realization that it must be a finch. He halted, body suddenly unmoving. Ahead, the trees parted way to make a clearing, within it, a finch chirped - a confirmation of the tom’s suspicions. Its brown and white body was bathing in the sunlight that was being cast down, and it held its head high - though unfortunately for it, it was looking in the opposite direction of its inevitable fate. It certainly didn’t fulfill the criteria of being large enough to feed the entire nursery and elders, though it seemed sizable enough that a few good sized warriors would be able to partake in enjoying it. Ashstripe dropped into a crouch instantly, taking careful precision in making sure that his weight was put into his haunches. His eyes stayed trained on the bird before him, though the tom’s gray tail flicked wildly as to beckon his apprentice to do the same. When he spoke, his voice was merely a whisper - though his focus never faltered. “While the finch on the ground, we want to approach it as if it’s a mouse or vole; use this as an example to show me the revision did you well, Softpaw. However, if it flies up, let me take the lead and show you how it’s done. I don’t think this a bird the rest of the Clan would be too happy about us losing.”

The sheer force of Bluepelt’s attack sent Brackenpaw tumbling down, and rightfully so. The suddenness of the attack had startled him, despite the fact that he been preparing for that inevitable surprise moments ago. In mere seconds he was down, his mentor towering high above him. A belly rake is what came to mind in the moment, though he also could’ve used his hind legs to push his mentor away. However, as soon as he began thinking, the moment was over and Bluepelt flicked his tail to signal the end of a session. He listened closely to the recap, nodding in response to his poor posture - instinct had taken over rather than intellect in that regard. However, the apprentice couldn’t help but open his mouth to show his side of thinking. “You had the advantage anyway, though,” he mewled. “An attack was inevitable, and I think I’m much better at being defensive. If the session hadn’t stopped right there then I could’ve done so much more!” Desperation filled his gaze, though he tried hard to fight it. “I’ve learned a lot over the moons, I promise! Just give me another chance to show you.”

Eclipse gave a small nod in understanding “I..it’s ok being a leader of all of us is probably a lot more work than me as an trainee would ever know.” She stuttered a bit when trying to not be shy towards her leader but kept herself together “you said your waiting for Birch? I saw him leave our camp earlier today and not too long after Storm headed out too. They must be out hunting?”

Be ready for a surprise Ashstripe. MUAHAHAHA))
Softpaw nodded and got into his own hunting crouch, moving forward steadily, his eyes trained on the bird as he steadily moved closer and closer. The bird, once Softpaw was a few tail lengths away, turned and saw the tom, immediately taking off into the air. Instead of letting his mentor take the leap the small tom jumped, leaping up as high as he could and snagging the tail feathers of the bird, pulling it the ground and killing it.
