Acornpawβs eyes were shut tight, grimacing at the pain. βIβm sorry... Cinderflower... I donβt think... I can keep training today...β The small catβs breathing was ragged, and his flank was rising and falling sporadically as he struggled to intake air. βWas my... technique good? I tried... to do it... just like you... showed me.β He whispered hoarsely, pausing frequently to breathe. It wouldnβt take a medicine cat to figure out the young brown tom was dying. βCan you... lay down with me? I feel really... really sleepy... and my belly it... it hurts... so much. Cinderflower... please... I....β Acornpaw stopped talking, it hurt too much. All he could do was soak in the familiar scent of his mentor as he lay dying.

Cinderflower // with Acornpaw { ashwind }
Oh. Oh no.
This was her fault. If Cinderflower hadn't brought him out to train here, he wouldn't be in this situation. Starclan, what had she done? Her heart hurt so much, she couldn't breathe. Her apprentice was dying - and she couldn't save him. She couldn't do anything for him.
No. She could do what he asked. She could stay here with him.
She knew what she would do.
"Of course, little one. I'll stay with you as long as you need. You did amazing, little one. I'm so proud of you. So very proud." She licked his fur softly, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill at any moment. He didn't need her to cry right now. He needed her to just be there, with him and for him. She purred affectionately before speaking again.
"I may not be a leader but - I can do this for you, my dear. I, Cinderflower, warrior of Gorgeclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon my apprentice. He has trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you in turn. Acornpaw, you have upheld the warrior code and defended your clan with your life. You saved me from harm, and I can think of no cat more worthy of their warrior name. By the powers of Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Acornpaw, from now on you will be known as Acornflight. Starclan honors your bravery and nobility, and I know they will welcome you as a full warrior of Gorgeclan. You can rest now, little one. You've done well."
She rested her nose between his ears, curling her long tail around his small body. They would stay here until he passed, when she would bring him to the clan and present him to Pintail as the warrior he'd become in mere moments. Cinderflower hoped Scorchstar would agree with her choice to give him his name - but if he didn't, she'd honor the young warrior with it anyways. He'd more than earned it in his sacrifice.

Acornflightβs eyes flooded with panic. A warrior? But he wasnβt ready! There were still so many things he had to learn, his mentor couldnβt possibly be making him a warrior right now. Especially without Scorchstarβs approval. The soothing pattern of the she-cats licks calmed the young tom. No, Cinderflower wouldnβt do this if she didnβt think I was ready. βAcornflight.β The tom murmured, barely audible. βI love it... thank you... so much... Cinderflower... Iβm sorry... I couldnβt... take down... the hawk... youβre not hurt... are you?β He tried craning his head to look at his mentor but couldnβt bear the weight of it. βCan you... catch Nightwillow... a rabbit... for me? Itβs his favorite...β The small brown tom exhaled deeply, and closed his eyes for the final time. He was no longer in any pain as his spirit joined his motherβs in StarClan.

Cinderflower // with Acornflight { ashwind }
"Don't apologize, little one. You did what you could. Thanks to you, I'm not hurt. You saved me." She struggled to contain her grief. "Of course. I'll tell him - I'll tell him you wanted me to give it to him." When he stopped breathing, she hiccuped a sob. He was gone - her apprentice, her dear little one, was gone. It was time to take him back to camp. Cinderflower stood somberly, and with all the gentleness of a new mother bathing her kits, she lifted the young tom onto her shoulders. He wasn't an apprentice anymore. He was a warrior - and he would be honored as such even if she had to fight for it.
The trip to back camp felt long - too long. The weight on her shoulders grew with every step, and with every step she grew closer, her heart broke more. She had to keep it together, though. Pintail would need her to be strong - after losing Brightsky, this would likely kill the poor tom. She needed to be strong, so that he could grive without worrying about anyone else.
She hadn't forgotten the rabbit, either. Halfway through the trip, she'd heard one in the brush. Cinderflower cried the entire time she sneaked up on it. Its weight in her jaws, along with the bloody hawk, was grounding her. Just make it to camp. Just make it back to Nightwillow, and to Pintail. Just - just make it.
The center of camp was empty - it felt too big, to public. It was too open. She rested Acornflight down gently, and placed the rabbit beside him, before throwing the hawk roughly to the side.
"Someone get Pintail. And someone get Scorchstar, and Poppyspots. They need to - I need to tell them what happened. I need to tell them he saved me," she meowed. It was loud enough that those nearby would hear her, but she wouldn't shout. It felt disrespectful, like it would dishonor the quiet peacefulness of the brown tom's body.

Scorchstar was in his den, discussing a potential plan of attack with Wildfur, Skyrunner, and Rushwhisker. He poked his head out of the small cave, alarmed by what he saw. It took a second to process everything he was looking at but once he saw Acornpaw and the hawk, he knew what had happened. He rushed down immediately, taking the apprentice by the scruff and setting him gently beside the gray warrior. He looked around camp, searching for anyone, when he spotted Kitepaw and Spiderpaw sharing tongues. βYou two.β He called, his voice thick with grief, but with a layer of authority. βKitepaw, fetch Needlefangβs patrol and bring them back to camp as fast as you can. Spiderpaw, get Poppyspots.β He dismissed the two apprentices with a flick of his tail before turning his attention to Thawtail. βThere will be no attack on the rogues today, we can save it for tomorrow.β He said, turning his head towards Cinderflower, pressing his nose against her flank. βSave your story for when Pintail gets here, it will be hard enough explaining once.β The dark ginger tom murmured, grooming her fur to prevent the shock from taking over, if it hadnβt already.

Thawtail's fur bristled as he was scolded by Scorchstar. He had figured that the leader of the patrol, whom he was not, would have reported the incident. However, he should have followed up with Scorchstar to make sure he was in the loop. He swallowed hard and forced himself not to retort, after all, Scorchstar was likely very stressed about the whole situation. He didn't reply as to not upset the leader further but did dip his head to acknowledge his words. He gave a small smile to Ashenpool for saving his hide and looked to Rushwhisker, eyes narrowing, before padding out of camp to go retrieve Pintail's patrol. That is, until Cinderflower rushed into camp, the small body of Acornpaw in her jaws. Thawtail skidded to a halt and returned, nodding once more to Scorchstar.
Rushwhisker sprang up as she heard her name mentioned by the leader. She bounded over to greet the warriors and leader, her eyes shining with excitement. "Who's leading?" She asked, practically vibrating with excitement at the prospect of helping her clan. That excitement was cut off as her keen nose detected blood moments before Cinderflower rushed in. Her jaw went slack as she saw Acornpaw's body covered in blood.

Cinderflower , Spiderpaw , Kitepaw // with Scorchstar, Needlefang's patrol, and Poppyspots { ashwind & πΉπͺπ»π½π΅π π¬π΅πΈπΎππ & @ripper }
Cinderflower nodded as the two apprentices raced off - one to the medicine den, and one to the camp entrance.
"Thank you, Scorchstar. I - I don't know that I could tell it twice," she murmured. She was grateful for his concern for her - it grounded her, kept her from disappearing into that void of guilt threatening to overtake.
Meanwhile, Spiderpaw burst into the medicine den, her voice struggling.
"Pop - Poppyspots. Acornpaw - something happened. He's - oh, Poppyspots, we need you to come to the middle of camp. It's really bad!"
As this happened, Kitepaw raced through the territory, his long legs pushing him farther and faster than he'd gone before. Luckily, he'd overheard Needlefang's patrol earlier, so he knew where to go. He came upon them quickly, but his eyes never moved from Pintail.
"Pintail, you need to come back to camp. Quickly. It's - it's about Acornpaw," he murmured, eyeing the tom with concern. His paws shuffled the ground, as if he couldn't stand to be still. And really, he couldn't. They needed to get back, fast.
( Sorry it's short, I wasn't sure what all to do other than have them tell the cats to come back )

βVery good. You did well.β Pintail purred, praising his young apprentice. He spotted a cat running towards them at a very high speed. βWhat the...β He stood in front of Slatepaw defensively, unsure of who the cat was at first. βIs that Kitepaw? Something must have happened...β The small brown tom muttered anxiously. He patiently let the apprentice catch his breath before speaking. The tomβs stomach dropped at the news. βOh StarClan no, let my son be okay!β He moaned, turning his attention towards the other two toms that were there. βLetβs head back to camp... Kitepaw you can wait here to catch your breath.β He ordered anxiously, racing off towards camp. Oh please, please, please, please, let my son be okay. The tom skidded into camp, his chest rising and falling heavily when his eyes fell upon a small scrap of brown fur in the middle of camp. βNo StarClan, tell me it isnβt so. Tell me you havenβt taken my only kit away from me.β Pintail wailed, racing over to his childβs body. He stuck his nose into the small warriors fur soaking in the toms scent. With a growl the tom reared in Cinderflower, his teeth bared, hackles raised, his eyes holding the same look Cinderflowerβs had when she attacked the hawk-filled with grief and rage. βWhat happened? How could you let this happen?β The tom roared, choking back tears as his claws left deep gouges in the earth beneath him.
Scorchstar stood aside, letting everything play out, though weary to not let Pintail attack the clearly grieving she-cat. He beckoned his mate with a flick of his tail. The she-cat had just come back from the medicine cat den, and was licking her jaws to get rid of the taste of herbs from her mouth. The she-cat was filled with anguish, sticking her nose into the leaders fur, seeking comfort.

Bluepoppy led her patrol out of the gorge, shortly after dawn and wouldnβt arrive back until long after Acornflight had been brought back to camp. βWhat do you say we split up from here? We can cover more ground separately... that and Iβm sure you donβt need me breathing down your neck while youβre trying to train your first apprentice.β The she-cat purred affectionately, secretly hoping the tom would refuse the offer. βWeβll meet back here at sun high.β The tortoiseshell molly suggested. βMay StarClan bless your paws Heatherpaw, and may they bless your sanity Gingerglow.β She added with a chinky wink before racing off across the moor.

While needlefang, pintail, and slatepaw were on patrol, cinderflower and acornpaw went to practice battle techniques, while scorchstar talked to thawtail, wildfur, rushwhisker, and skyrunner about the rogues that had been scented on the territory. during this time, bluepoppy led her patrol out towards the moor, and ashenpool visited poppyspots for herbs for her pregnancy. while training, a hawk attacked acornpaw and cinderflower, he was killed by the hawk but fought valiantly, to reward him, cinderflower gave him his warrior name- acornflight. she carries him back to camp, screaming for help. scorchstar sends kitepaw and spiderpaw to get needlefangβs patrol and poppyspots respectively. pintail came back to camp with the rest of his patrol and is confronting cinderflower about the death of his son. bluepoppy and her patrol are still out hunting st this time.

Needlefang | tags: ashwind, πΉπͺπ»π½π΅π π¬π΅πΈπΎππ, Κα΄α΄ΚΚα΄Κα΄α΄ Β»Needlefang's fur bristled with alarm as the two apprentices came barreling beside them. The tom had an instant gut feeling something bad had happened; the apprentices looked winded and panicked, as though they had run as quickly as possible to the patrol. The cocky tom for once didn't bristle at Pintail telling him what to do. Wordlessly Needlefang spun around, racing after Slatepaw and Pintail as they ran for the camp. The smaller brown tom looked grief-stricken already, though none of them had yet seen Acornpaw's body. Needlefang felt a pang of sorrow; it was as if Pintail shared that gut feeling as well. Something had clearly gone wrong with Acornpaw; the two apprentices had explained, but it was as though Needlefang couldn't accept their words. That hadn't really happenedβit couldn't have. Acornpaw hadn't really died. The concept wasn't fathomable. He can't be, Needlefang told himself firmly. This isn't the time to think about death. There could still be hope. Maybe they could be mistaken.As they headed back towards the camp, it seemed time stopped for a moment; Needlefang hardly felt the ground beneath his paws as they emerged into the camp entrance. A brown scrap, bloodied and wounded, lay pitifully on the ground; a group of cats crowded around the body. Acornpawβ¦Needlefang looked down at the body with horror, his thoughts pausing for a second as he was overtaken by the horrible sight before them. The tom's mind blanked as Pintail went into a grieving rage, spitting at Cinderflower, who had a floored look in her eyes. All of the cats in the camp were clearly grief-stricken, the air filled with sorrow. Rest easy, Acornpaw, Needlefang thought sadly, staring down, unblinking, at the sad scrap of fluff lying dejectedly on the ground. He could hardly believe the sight. First warriors had been killed, now young apprentices? Acornpaw hadn't even been given a chance to live out the life of a warrior. You could've made a great warrior one dayβ¦ Thought the tom sadly. He wanted to comfort Pintail in some kind of way, but he knew Pintail probably didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment, especially not him after what had happened during the patrol. Wildfur | tags: Cool GuyWildfur listened quietly to what the other cats had to say, rarely making contributions, as Scorchstar did most of the talking. The leader's eyes had a horror-stricken look as he glanced out of the den. Wildfur had an instant pang of fear. Something was definitely wrong. The fluffy tom turned his head, immediately speechless with grief and shock as he saw Acornpaw's wounded body, a shell of the apprentice he once was. Wildfur broke out of the den, racing towards the scene unfolding in the camp. Speechless, the tom stared down at Acornpaw's still-warm body, raked with the scratches of deadly talons. Oh StarClan, why this? appeased the tom. He was usually never one to challenge StarClan's decisions, but this was unfair in ways unimaginable. Had StarClan made the right choice in taking this apprentice's life? No one deserves a death like this, Wildfur thought sadly. He fought for the words he wanted to say, but not a sound emerged from his throat. He could only stare down, horrified, at Acornpaw's body. Finally, Wildfur managed to speak in spite of his tightening throat. "StarClan, why?" the tom choked. Heatherpaw | tags: πΉπͺπ»π½π΅π π¬π΅πΈπΎππ, ashwindHeatherpaw gave a purr of amusement at Bluepoppy's words, looking to her mentor for instructions. It seemed a great day for hunting; the grass looked to be teeming with life. The tabby apprentice flexed her claws, eager to start whatever they were doing; Heatherpaw honestly didn't care what it was, she just needed to get out some of her energy. She had felt pent-up the past few days; with so many deaths and tragedies happening recently, the camp had a sad air about it. If just one thing could go right, Heatherpaw would be happy. "So Gingerglow, what's on the agenda?" asked the apprentice, her tone happy-go-lucky as she spoke to her mentor.

"I can't believe this," he whispered hoarsely to the she-cat, his eyes still frozen on Acornpaw's body. He was friendly with all the apprentices, and to know that he would never be able to speak to Acornpaw ever again was heartbreaking. Needlefang | tags: ashwind, Cool GuyNeedlefang, still in shock, padded over to sit beside Rushwhisker and Wildfur. He still couldn't believe what had happened. His mind fogged with worries and guilt that he'd been so rude to Pintail, who'd now lost his only son. He hoped the tom could forgive him. Needlefang and Pintail had their differences, but no one deserved to lose a kitβnot even Pintail. Definitely not Pintail. The tom's eyes clouded with sadness, but he said nothing, his silence speaking louder than words. The other cats clearly felt the same as well; they, too had an air of sadness about them. Grief overwhelmed the camp as a whole; the air even felt heavy with the weight of loss. Wildfur | tags: Cool GuyWildfur looked over at the she-cat and gave a slight nod as Needlefang approached and sat beside them. Wildfur remembered how he had briefly discussed Needlefang and Pintail's squabbling earlier. Needlefang could be rough around the edges, but surely the hard-headed tom could set aside their differences in these trying times; hopefully, at least. Pintail, crouching nearby beside his kit's body, was clearly in great distress, a kind none of them could understand. The feeling of losing a kit must leave a horrible feeling of emptiness, one that was difficult to describe. "StarClan help him," Wildfur whispered, his tone uneasy as he looked over at Pintail. The tom was lashing out at Cinderflower, and though he understood why, he couldn't help but tense up. Clan cats didn't normally fight amongst themselves in such a way, and it was certainly difficult to watch. Heatherpaw | tags: txt
