I started drawing from anime/manga art style. Since I have heard that studying realism is always useful for developing one's own style, what tips do people have to offer to beginners to realistic drawing?
I draw on paper, but tips for digital drawing would also be appreciated, if not by me than by some others might be reading this.

If you're wanting to draw people or to learn anatomy drawing better, I personally have taken photos of myself or pose in the mirror too. If you haven't tried skeleton sketches (Like just simple shapes that create the shape of the object) as well, they helped me when I was first learning as well.

I don’t know if you’re drawing digitally or on paper, but since I do have a lot of “realistic drawing on paper” experience, I’ll just give you some tips for that. If you do draw digitally, hopefully these can help someone else! good tip is try to keep from drawing lines when doing realism, except for in cases such as clothes, hair, and eyes. Nothing is lined in real life, so when you’re drawing realistically it shouldn’t be either. A blending stump is very important, you basically need it if you want to draw realistically. I use it more then the actual pencils. How I usually use it is I take the darkest pencil I have and scribble with it on a piece of paper, and then rub the blending stump in it. That way you can use the stump to shade and color everything in. I’m not exactly sure what type of realism you’re doing, but this is the way I do it. I’m not good at explaining things, so i apologize if you can’t quite understand what you’re getting at. If you have any questions about drawing any different types of body parts and such, feel free to ask!
