Colors weave into a spire of flame Distant sparks call to a past still unnamed Bear this torch against the cold of the night Search your soul and reawaken the undying light
𝕿he fighters had gathered on a cliff's edge, both friends and foes united before their ultimate enemy. With their weapons drawn, they braced themselves for what was sure to be a legendary battle. There was little time to strategize—all the fighters could do was exchange some much needed words of encouragement. Even with their combined strength, they were woefully unprepared for what lay ahead of them.
A legion of Master Hands filled the sky, slowly approaching the cliff on which the fighters stood. Commanding them from a distance was an entity possessing immeasurable power: Galeem, the Lord of Light. It appeared as a glowing orb wrapped in prismatic veils, its form giving no hint as to its calamitous nature.
Suddenly, the Master Hands began to disintegrate as they were consumed by Galeem. The entity became shrouded in intense blue light as it absorbed their life forces. When its power became too immense, Galeem collapsed into a black hole. Seconds later, the black hole exploded into a volley of beams that ripped through the fighters, reducing them to nothing. No one was spared from Galeem's wrath—even those who hadn't stepped up to confront it met their doom as well. Galeem's attack expanded until it swallowed the planet, and eventually, the universe in its entirety. Everything would soon be recreated in Galeem's image.
The World of Light resembled a puzzle stitched together from pieces of the planets it had destroyed. Its inhabitants had been forged from the souls that had lost their forms to Galeem. Each disembodied spirit had been turned hostile and placed in the cloned body of one of the fighters that had stood up to the Lord of Light. As they were valuable to its cause, Galeem allowed the fighters to retain their original forms—but they had fallen under its control alongside the spirits.
However, it was soon discovered that spirits could be "awakened" if they were defeated in battle. There was hope—if enough spirits were restored and recruited, perhaps Galeem could be defeated and the universe returned to its original state.
✘ Special thanks to shiinotic 🍄 for designing the awesome layout! ✘ We're just going to assume that player characters have already been awakened. Awakened spirits will appear in their original forms.✘ Below is a map of the World of Light. The Smash Ball indicates the current location of the main group of fighters.
✘ This should go without saying, but make sure to follow the forum rules at all times.✘ I intend for this role play to have a casual, relaxed atmosphere. As such, it is open to participants of all skill levels. While you should strive for proper grammar and such, you will not be penalized for making mistakes.✘ I abhor post length requirements. All they do is encourage bad writing habits and stifle character interactions. Plus, I realize that not everyone (myself included) can commit the time to writing an essay for every single post. As such, meaningful posts of any size are fine, and remember: quality over quantity!✘ No black (or any color that's hard to see) subtext!✘ You may have no more than two characters. Your first character must be a playable fighter, while the second one can be any character depicted as a Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The only characters that are off limits are the characters that appear as bosses in World of Light (Rathalos, Marx, Dracula, Ganon, Galleom, Giga Bowser, Master Hand, Crazy Hand, Galeem, and Dharkon).✘ I shouldn't even have to say this, but LGBT characters are absolutely welcome here! (In this role play, we don't say “so long, gay Bowser”—we say “hello, gay Bowser!”)✘ To join, all you need to do is submit a brief bio (one or two paragraphs at most) covering the basics of your character's personality, abilities, and backstory if applicable. Since we're largely dealing with canon characters, all of this information can be found with a quick Google search—I just thought it would be convenient to those unfamiliar with particular games if short summaries were provided. It's also necessary because some characters (common enemies, Pokémon) will essentially function as OCs.✘ If there is a specific image you'd like me to use for your character's profile, feel free to include it with your bio. Otherwise, shiinotic 🍄 will provide one for you. CORRINBorn in the kingdom of Hoshido and raised in the kingdom of Nohr, the platinum haired prince Corrin once walked a path split between his two families before he ultimately made the choice to fight alongside what he deemed "legendary heroes" instead of picking a side. Descended from the First Dragons, Corrin has the power to transform into a dragon along with the ability to manipulate parts of his body into an array of dangerous and draconic appendages. He also wields a legendary weapon, the Omega Yato. Being a caring and trusting soul, Corrin isn't one to resort to confrontation if a peaceful resolution can be met— and if it comes down to it he'll be more than likely to show mercy to the defeated party. Sometimes, through honesty or just the devil's own luck, Corrin's charisma and charm will even win over those who previously opposed him. He wears his heart on his sleeve and cherishes those close to him, which explains his decision to not pick between his two families and have to go through the guilt of fighting those he loves. While not everyone may approve of his choices, Corrin feels that he commands his own fate and the decisions he makes are in everyone's best interest.
KING DEDEDEResembling a portly blue penguin, King Dedede just so happens to share a number of traits with his sworn nemesis, Kirby: he can puff himself up and float through the air, and inhale everything in sight using a vacuum-like power. If there's one thing the two of them don't have in common, it's their personalities. Unlike the charming, amiable Kirby, Dedede is greedy and self-absorbed. He doesn't consider himself to have any friends (nor does he want any), though he may form temporary alliances if he thinks he'll benefit from them in some way. Essentially, Dedede is the embodiment of spontaneity: if it seemed convenient at the time, he'd readily ditch his companions and join sides with the enemy. He isn't a bad guy, per se, though he also can't really be considered a very good person… er, penguin. He may be a lousy ruler, but Dedede nonetheless delights in bossing people around—even those outside of his kingly domain. His other hobbies include eating, meddling in Kirby's affairs, eating, going on adventures (but only when he's in the right mood), and did I mention eating?
LUIGIDefined by the green cap atop his head, Luigi stands in contrast to his older brother, Mario. Luigi is often overshadowed by the charisma and fame of Mario — he's always played second banana in saving the princess. His lanky physique can be seen awkwardly ambulating in the shadows of Mario's adventures as the puppet to the second player marionettist. The heroic charm present in his older brother is lost in Luigi. A deep-rooted inferiority complex depresses his soul; Luigi never seems to be happy for long as he meekly wanders from adventure to adventure. Despite this, Luigi has no grudge against his brother, and he cares for him dearly. A deep phasmophobia haunts him, as seen in his previous escapades in a certain mansion, though Luigi can be seen cowering from almost anything which crosses his path. However, Luigi is rather kindhearted and can show sparks of courage when it's most needed. One day, perhaps Luigi will be the hero. Probably not, though.
MARTHMarth is the young and dedicated Prince, or King, depending on who is addressing him, of Altea. Sworn to protect and guide his people and companions through battle and prosperity, Marth is selfless in honorable in conversation, and skilled and swift in combat. Wielding the legendary Falchion blade, Marth fares well against Dragons and other enemies, and tends to focus his strikes precisely towards the tip of the blade, where it is most effective. Known for his personality, he tends to befriend most he meets, yet he also has his naïve moments, putting too much trust into others and can sometimes be taken advantage of. Even so, Marth fights for those he loves, and for the goodness of others. Rarely will he believe himself to be as great as others claim, his humbleness a bit too strong. He is currently engaged to Caeda, a Princess from his realm, whom he loves deeply. He works well with other swordfighters and with heroes, and tries to keep peace as best as he can.
RIKIDon't be fooled by his cuddly appearance—Riki is a legendary hero! Well... to be fair, he was only selected as "Heropon" because he had a hefty debt to pay off. Feeding eleven kids isn't cheap, you know! Nevertheless, Riki is a skilled battler. He specializes in strategy, and is capable of inflicting a number of status conditions with his various arts. You can never know what to expect from this crafty Nopon—he might freeze you, poison you, or knock you off your feet!
YOUNG LINKOne would think that such a young boy would not have much experience under his belt, they would be wrong. Holder of the Triforce of courage and accolades such as the hero of time, and silent savior of Termina, Link is far from a greenhorn (despite his tunic color). His favorite weapons include the Kokiri sword and Deku shield that he's had since he first began his journey, a hookshot he stole from pirates, the hero's bow acquired from a poisonous swamp's temple, Fire arrows from an icy labyrinth, a boomerang found in the belly of a deity when rescuing a spoiled princess, and bombs taken from a cavern guarded by dinosaur-like lizards. Born to a humble yet tragic beginning, his journey started past the lost woods, in the secret area ruled over the Great Deku Tree, Kokiri forest, where his dying mother had managed to take him when he was but an infant. He spent his early days lounging around and playing with the child-like Kokiri, but upon receiving his fairy, his life took a drastic turn, throwing him into two separate world ending crises-es. Despite terrifying deadlines and evil looming behind every corner, he still gladly took the time to help everyone he met. Clever, friendly and adept with any weapon he stumbles across, this young boy will risk his life to save those in need even if it costs him his life. Forever at the mercy of fate, Link steps up to his role as hero with vigor, kindness, stoicism and occasional property destruction.

"Guh... my head..." King Dedede was lying on his side with his palm pressed against his forehead. He couldn't remember anything at first, but sure enough, the memories came flooding back to him. Dedede shuddered as he recalled standing on the edge of the cliff, watching as the army of Master Hands descended upon him and his companions. He grew even more uneasy when he remembered Galeem turning into a black hole and its rays of destruction rocketing toward them. Dedede moved his hand in front of his face and stared at it in disbelief. "Am I... dead?" he murmured. He warily lowered his hand and inspected his surroundings. The place seemed vaguely familiar, but something was... off. Dedede clenched his beak. I guess this is the afterlife, he thought glumly.

Nothing as far as the eye could see. Luigi was alone, although he was used to that. It was the utter lack of life existing in the sprawling plains before him that was disturbing. He had regained consciousness earlier, clueless as to what had caused him to awaken in this otherworldly field. His memories were clouded by rays of light. In his daze, Luigi was unable to remember the events prior to his awakening.
Luigi jumped to his feet, warily observing the land around him. The surreal landscape offered him nothing but further plant-life and emptiness. Trembling, Luigi ambled forward.
"Mario?" he called. "Mario-o-o-o?" There was no response.
"... Anyone?"

King Dedede jumped when he heard a voice calling out from the distance. What was that?! He got up and waddled toward its source. Standing in a clearing (and looking very confused) was a figure Dedede recognized: Luigi. Years ago, he and Dedede had teamed up to defeat Tabuu in Subspace. It made Dedede sad to see him in what he assumed was the afterlife—but only for a moment. A mischievous grin spread across his beak. Say... Luigi's afraid of ghosts, ain't he?Trying his best to keep a straight face, King Dedede approached Luigi. " Oooooooooooh," he crooned, waggling his fingers under his mittens. He nearly let out a snicker. " Luuuuiiiigiiii... I have come to haaaaaaauuunt yooooouuu..."

Startled, Luigi hopped into the air as an eerie bellow rang out from behind him. Eyes widening, he slowly turned around, shaking. A giant mass of penguin dwarfed him in size comparatively.
"Luuuuiiiigiiii... I have come to haaaaaaauuunt yooooouuu..."
Luigi shrieked.
"A g-g-g-ghost? King Dedede?" he sputtered out. His body quivering, Luigi slowly pulled out the Poltergust 3000. He was hesitant, not only due to his fear, but because of his target. King Dedede was his ally in Subspace. How could a (not-so) dear friend of his pass on so young? He didn't look ghastly in appearance, with a healthy glow to his skin and the faintest of his trademark grin on his beak. In fact, the Poltergust 3000 didn't seem to think him to be dead, either. As he switched it on, the ghost-sucking vacuum cleaner's suction pulled King Dedede closer, but refused to absorb him.
"W-what-a the heck?" he stammered.

"That's right! I'm a ghooooo—WHOA—oooost..." Dedede stumbled as the Poltergust 3000 pulled him closer to Luigi. Dang it! I forgot he had that thing! To his surprise, Dedede wasn't sucked into the chamber of the machine. He just stood there, staring blankly at Luigi. ... Oh? Huh, that's mighty strange. He scratched his head as he attempted to come up with an explanation. Seconds later, the grin returned to Dedede's face. "Maybe the reason it won't work... is 'cause YOU'RE a ghost, tooooooo!"

Luigi howled out another shriek.
"M-me? A ghost?" he screeched. "NOOO!" Luigi lifted the entire Poltergust 3000 off of his back, swung it over his shoulder, and bopped Dedede on the head repeatedly, still screaming. As the clobbering of the king's noggin continued, Luigi's swings eventually slowed, as did his screams. He furrowed his brow. Something didn't add up.
"H-hey, are you-a messing with me, King Dedede?" he said. "I certainly don't feel dead, that's-a for sure." Luigi frowned. "If this is a prank, it sure isn't-a funny! I can't be d-dead!"

With each swing of the Poltergust 3000, King Dedede flinched. "Ack! GAH! Cut it out, you... you... THAT'S IT! I'M GONNA CLOBBAH YOU!" Just as Dedede raised his hammer, Luigi ended his assault. Dedede lowered the weapon as he chewed over Luigi's words. "What're you talking about? That floaty glowy thing blew us all to smithereens! There's no way we coulda survived that! ... Right?" Luigi did have a point. King Dedede didn't feel dead, either (not that he knew what "feeling dead" actually entailed). It would also certainly explain why the Poltergust 3000 had little effect on him.

(It's up to you; the characters weren't necessarily awakened by the same fighters. Maybe you could have Marth stumble upon Dedede and Luigi. I haven't introduced Riki yet, but you could also have Marth meet up with him if you'd like.)

"Floaty... glowy... thing?" Luigi paused. Galeem! He smacked his face and gasped. "That's... that's-a right!" Memories came rushing back to Luigi, but one particular image seared his mind. It was light, burning light flooding and dissolving the fighters who stood against the Lord of Light.
"Luigi must have bumped-a his head during the fight," he said, taking his cap off and rubbing his head. "But more importantly..." Luigi looked around, a horrified look on his face. "... No, we're not-a dead! When you die you get all floaty and... ghost-y. And, most importantly, you get sucked up by-a the Poltergust 3000. The others, they must have won the fight! We're just, uh... here. For some reason. Not dead." Luigi trembled as he slowly turned and locked eyes with Dedede.
"R... right?"

"Hmm..." Had Dedede's eyes been lying to him? He had clearly seen his companions get obliterated, and he had surely met the same fate. Then again, he couldn't actually remember being dissolved himself, nor could he remember any of the events that had followed. "Well, where is everyone? And where the heck are we?"

(Awesome! Here I go, tell me if I need to change anything in my posts! ) Pain. That was what had registered the most when the blinding blast of light had struck him. He had lost sight of Zelda and Pitt, not even having time to lift his Falchion to try and defend against the brutal onslaught. He awoke with a sudden start, body shooting up and eyes snapping open. Worry surged in his chest, for all of his fellow fighters that he had come to know so well after all the time spent in this strange world. And now, they very well could have all been destroyed before his eyes. Marth groaned suddenly then, a scorching headache pounding at him. Pressing his hand gently to his temple, his bleary eyes focused after a few moments. His heart dropped as he looked around, confused as to where exactly he was. Had he died? Had the light been some form of teleportation? He tried to rise to his feet, but found himself stumbling to his knees on the first try. Undeterred, he took a few breaths and pushed upwards again, legs shaking as he regained the best balance he could. Clothes, check. Falchion, check. He could feel it on his hip, somehow it had stayed with him. He inspected his hands, his visible patches of skin. He seemed a bit frayed and messy but all in all, he seemed to not be harmed too badly. Now, only confusion filled him. Steeling himself, he drew in his courage and drew his blade for protection, walking forwards through the strange and seemingly misty area. "Hello? Is anybody here?" Marth called, his voice firm yet cautious.

Luigi frantically looked around.
"Th-that's a good-a question," he said. His breath was unsteady from fear, though after a few deep breaths he steadied himself and was able to calm down. A large exhale followed as he began to speak again.
"Surely everything went okay, with my bro and I together, we can win any fight!" Luigi paused. "P-probably."
He let out a loud sigh and gave his surroundings another look-around.
"Well, the only way to find out is to explore!" His voice trembled, and his face looked miserable. "... I'm trying to stay-a positive nowadays. Boy, I'd sure like this to be over already. I hope I can get home soon with my bro and make lotsa spaghetti to celebrate our victory that totally happened and isn't a lie that I created just to calm my nerves because we're totally dead and not alive." Luigi glanced around. "I-ignore that last part."
Suddenly, a distant yell surprised him.
"Hello? Is anybody here?" it called. Luigi looked back to King Dedede.
"D-did you hear that?!"

Marth silenced himself for a moment, trying to hear if any reply would come his way. This strange place, it felt different, stranger than the Smash World he had been in prior to this. Certainly different from back home in Altea. His heart fluttered a bit, pained as he remembered Caeda there. The thought of seeing her again added onto the desire to find his other companions driving him now. He called once more, looking around as he walked. "Is anybody here? I...have woken up, and do not know where I am. Zelda? Pitt?" He tried a few names. "Roy, even? Now is not the time for pranks, Roy!" He tried.
