"It's more enjoyable than anything else we've done so far." he commented, particularly avoiding the words 'fun' and 'enjoyment'. He was being stubborn and he knew it, though he also knew he couldn't help it much. He didn't want to admit to himself that he may wind up enjoying hunting more than he had been or at least stop denying that he liked it.
"As long as we are guided well and we remain strong, I think you're right." she nodded again, as they approached the camp she slipped through the entrance. She didn't know if Whisperwing would split off or not. Though she figured it so, considering the less than energetic conversation. It was just simple small talk.

"She caught a frog so far." Stormpath told him proudly, his eyes shining. He looked to the dark brown tom, a question prodding his mind. "Why did you try to train her back there? I could have easily told her what you did. It's not always comforting to have a parent scolding you." He wasn't sure if that was true actually, but he could guess as much after watching Mothpaw become upset with Appleshine. "It's, in my mind, one of the reasons they don't put parents to mentor their kits. That and favoritism."

"I have faith," Whisperwing meowed rather proudly, "NightClan will live for generations to come yet." Though things would change, Longstar would not be around forever and when he was gone a new leader would ride up, but NightClan would prevail. It just had to. Then they entered camp and his mind instantly switched, but before he went to go and find his apprentice, he turned back to Crowclaw, "Thank you for your company earlier. It was a lot nicer than just sitting by myself."
Lilypaw was not having much luck now she had already caught something. Maybe the noise she had made tossing the frog around had scared everything else away. It would be a shame if that were the case, but the young she-cat was not going to give up. Maybe she could try fishing? She was sure Stormpath would be proud if she managed to catch a fish in the pond! So, with that idea in the mind, Lilypaw bounced back towards the edge of the water, slowly as she near the edge, crouching low and green eyes gazing into the calm surface of the water waiting for something to swim on by.
Stormpath had not said anything about his own catch, but Foxtail was at least pleased to hear that Lilypaw was having some luck. Just as he thought, she would turn out to be a fine hunter. But it seemed the gray tabby had some questions and now Foxtail was expected to answer them for him. "She knows I'm hard on her just because I want her to do well," he responded, getting tired already of standing and simply sitting himself down for the moment, "And sometimes hearing criticism from your parent works better than hearing it from your mentor. She might just think you're being too hard on her, might help if I think the same thing.

"It can be discouraging for a young apprentice to have their parents pointing out their faults. Even if she thinks I'm being too hard on her, I can handle it. She won't be the first, or last, apprentice to think her mentor is too harsh." He didn't have time to be sitting here discussing the basics of training with tom, even though I'm in the one who started it. He glanced to where Lilypaw was, wondering if she caught any more prey. The tom flicked his tail irritably at Foxtail before turning away. "I should get back to her, if she catches one more piece of prey or somehow scares something off we can return to camp. I know you'd like to lay down and now, you have a valid excuse to." He wasn't sure if that was his actual intentions of dragging Foxtail out, but it seemed to work well in both of their favors. With that he left to go find his apprentice, careful to not make anymore noise.

Maskedpaw was still laying down towards the middle of camp. The she-cat rested comfortably now, having fallen back asleep in her own silence.

Whisperwing dipped his head one last time at the she-cat before trotting off further into camp to look for his apprentice. And it didn't take him very long at all to find her, slowly padding over to where she was dozing before reaching out to poke her with a paw. "Come on lazy bones," he meowed to try and wake her up, "We have some training to do. What are you doing still asleep?"
Lilypaw was as still as she could manage as she waited next to the water, green eyes just staring intently at the depths. A fish would have to come along at any moment now, or maybe another frog she could catch to the one she had earlier. Her young mind was already brimming with all the praise she was going to get for this. Though she paused, spotting something moving under the water. Instantly she fell still, waiting until whatever it was was right underneath her before quickly lashing out with a paw. But she was too fast, losing her balance and instead of just her paw going into the water, the she-cat toppled head over heel and landed in the water with a loud splash!
"I don't need to you to lecture me on the subject," he almost growled, struggling to keep his voice level, "She's my kit, not yours and I can criticise her if I want to. She knows I'm not doing it to be mean, so why do you even care? I just want her to do her best and she knows that." It was just tough love, the same sort of love he had been brought up with and he had turned out perfectly fine. His blue eyes narrowed as Stormpath turned and left again, and Foxtail knew that he could just stay put this time, but with a grumble he stood, picking his catch before walking after the tabby. He wasn't just going to leave him like that. But a sudden sound of something hitting the water caused him to pause, ears and head turning towards the noise. It could only be one thing. Lilypaw. Without even hesitating, Foxtail bolted off towards the noise, bushy tail streaming behind him and no idea of Stormpath was even following or not.

Stormpath picked up his speed when he heard the sound of a cat hitting the water. He didn't think twice as he went after her, grabbing her by her scruff and tugging her towards the shore. He looked up to Foxtail as he did this, his anger for the tom evaporated at the moment while he brought his apprentice. When they both had safely reached the ground outside the water he shook the water free from his pelt, sniffing at her for any serious damage. "She may be your kit, but she's my apprentice." He said lowly, making sure Lilypaw couldn't hear him. He licked her fur the wrong way to help warm her up for the time being. "Lilypaw, I think we should get you back to camp. Can you stand on your own fine? If not, lean on me, okay? Foxtail, you can easily carry the prey back right?" He looked up to the tom, a warning in his gaze. He didn't want to continue their fight in front of the apprentice where she could hear if it got too heated.

Maskedpaw picked her head up to see her mentor. "Well, I hadn't meant to fall asleep." she said in defense of herself. Maskedpaw was much more herself with her mentor, at least now she was. Early on in her training, she had been just as timid as she had always been with new cats.

"And yet you did," Whisperwing couldn't help but point out, though his tone was only teasing. He wasn't telling the apprentice off, he was the same sometimes after long days of patrols and hunting he could fall asleep on command. "But it doesn't matter," he meowed next, changing the subject to what he actually wanted to talk about, "I thought it was a good day to go over some fighting techniques." Certainly the area of training he preferred, being a pretty miserable hunter himself.
Lilypaw hadn't meant to fall in the water, she had just slipped up. But now she was engulfed, paws splashing to try and keep herself afloat as he started to snake through the water to try and get back to the shore. But then there was another splash, another cat entering the water with her and before she knew it, Stormpath was pulling her back onto the shore. "I didn't need help," the she-cat huffed, shaking water from her multicoloured pelt, trying to wriggle away like a kit from Stormpath's tongue, "And I can stand just fine. And carry my own prey back as well. I'm just a bit wet is all."
Foxtail was annoyed to find that, by the time he arrived by the edge of the water, Stormpath had already managed to pull his daughter out of the water himself. But continuing his argument with the gray tabby warrior was the least of his worries at the moment, moving towards Lilypaw as he dropped his vole onto the ground. "Are you sure you're okay?" He meowed, almost worriedly, "You could have drowned. You need to be more careful. Where would I be if you went and hurt yourself?" He didn't want to think about it. And so he wouldn't think about it, just sighing to try and calm himself down. "But Stormpath is right," though he hated to admit it, "We need to get you back to camp and get you checked over just to make sure you don't catch anything."

Instead of being angry with Lilypaw for her wiggling away, he laughed. "Of course you can, sorry. I was just a tad worried." He admitted to her. "Let's go to camp, okay? If you're feeling better before the sun goes down we can head out and I'll try to train you in battle." He quickly went to grab his own prey before returning to the pair. "Come on now. Lilypaw if you don't feel well enough, we can try again tomorrow." The tom began to make his way back to camp, keeping a close eye on the apprentice to make sure she was in fact alright.

Maskedpaw nodded, standing up "It's nicer than usual so I think I can agree." she stretched out with a small yawn before looking to Whisperwing. Mainly waiting for her mentor to lead them to wherever he was going to train her. She wondered if they'd just be reviewing previously learnt moves or learning new ones? She could only really hope to just review. Maskedpaw wasn't the best ate learning new things overall, which she hated.

The nice weather was something he wanted to make the most of, and a spot of training in such nice weather was not something he wanted to miss out on. And he was pleased to hear that his apprentice agreed with him. "Well alright then," he meowed, using his tail to gesture for Maskedpaw to follow as he started padded from camp. "I thought we could start with some of the basics, and then move onto some more advanced moves? I think you're ready to start learning some new material."
She was slightly pleased that Stormpath was worried about her, equally so that her father was just as worried, but she expected it from him. "Stop worrying I am quite alright, the water wasn't even that cold," she didn't need both of them fussing over her like this, just lifting her head as she padded off to go and pick up her frog where she had left it. Though she was still dripping water, the she-cat wasn't letting it bother her as she unburied her catch, picking it up in his mouth carefully keeping her head held high as she started to pad off after her mentor.
"Stop worrying? I'm your father, I'm allowed to worry," Foxtail just huffed at his kit, though his gaze softened slightly as he watched her before shaking his head. She really was just like her mother, stubborn to a fault. The brown tom moved back again to where he had dropped his vole, picking it up again before moving after the others, quick to catch up again with a couple of strong strides before falling comfortably into pace besides Stormpath.

When he made his way into camp he placed his prey onto the fresh-kill pile before turning his gaze to Lilypaw. "You do seem to be walking fine, get something for yourself to eat and rest. I will come for you later in the day for battle practice, alright? If you start feeling unwell go see the medicine cat. I know you're a strong young apprentice, but not feeling well isn't a weakness." With that he shifted his eyes to Foxtail. He didn't really say anything, just walked past him towards the other side of the clearing. On his way there he was intercepted by Appleshine, who was making a show of showing concern for her, now, slightly damp son. He groaned and continued to walk, trying to tune her out.

Maskedpaw internally sighed. Of course she'd be learning new things today. "Sounds good." she guessed. The apprentice began to follow her mentor as they left the camp. She was grateful that at the least, she'd be learning something easier instead of jumping straight into harder subjects or battling moves.

It was important that his apprentice knew how to handle herself if they ever ran into danger. Being a good hunter was all well and good and it was important to keep the clan fed, but Whisperwing was not foolish to also overlook how important it was that a cat had the required skills to keep themselves alive during a battle. He padded mostly in silence, only occasionally checking behind him to make sure Maskedpaw was following before they reached a small clearing perfect for what he had in mind. "Okay," he meowed, having a quick look around before returning his attention to his apprentice, "Let's start with showing me your best pounce. I'm going to stand here and I want you to try and land on my back." What he wasn't mentioning is that he wasn't going to stand still and make this easy.
Lilypaw dropped off her own prey once the group had returned back to camp, still feeling fine from her swim. The walk had allowed most of the water to dry already thanks to the nice weather they were experiencing, and while she was still a little damp, at least she wasn't dripping anymore. "Don't make me wait too long!" She just meowed with a large smile, watching Stormpath walk off before turning and bouncing off herself. She didn't really want to wait, she wanted to train some more.
At least Lilypaw was alright, that was really all Foxtail was thankful for. When they returned back to camp, the brown tom practically threw his catch onto the pile, watching as his kit went running off before his attention turned back to Stormpath. He also noted that Appleshine was bothering him, so Foxtail decided that he needed to intervene and maybe save him from his mother. "Wait for me," he called after the tom, pace quickening to catch up, dipping his head to Appleshine as he approached before lowering his voice so only Stormpath could hear, "You look like you need an excuse to leave."

"Appleshine, I need to discuss something with Foxtail here. If you'd excuse me." He waited for her to move and it was obvious she was hesitant at first. She let out a sigh, turning herself around and stalking off to the clear other side of camp by herself. When she was well out of earshot Stormpath turned to the tom, a look of relief on his face. "You'd think she didn't have another kit to bother. Thanks for saving me from that." He looked sheepishly away, not liking the idea of needing to be saved but when it came to his mother saying no to her was like talking to a tree. "She doesn't know when to leave me alone, it's one of the few things that annoy me."

"Take your time," he offered the first piece of advice, gaze watching his apprentice as he moved slowly, almost encircling her like a predator, "Watch my movements, pace yourself, aim right between my shoulders." He wanted her to be successful, wanted her to be capable, but he didn't want to make it easy for her. "Come on," he tried again, stopping for just a moment, though constantly ready to spring out of the way.
Foxtail was happy to be an excuse for Stormpath to get away from his mother. "Let's call it a small thank you for saving Lilypaw from the pond," he just responded, dipping his head slightly at the tom. It was honestly the least he could do, though he was confident that Lilypaw could have gotten herself out, and was more than happy to admit just that, he could appreciate that Stormpath had been willing to jump into the water to try and rescue her. "But that is what parents are for," he did have to add, the tip of his tail twitching, "I can attest to that."

"Any cat would have jumped in after her, you never know if someone is caught on something or can't swim well.." He trailed off, looking towards Lilypaw. "I know she can easily swim, but I didn't know the full situation so I went in after her." He sat down, curling his tail over his paws. "In my personal opinion, parents are great but there's a fine line for everything. You can be overbearing or just not there, so excuse me if I don't actually understand what parents are for." He flicked his ear, cocking his head to the side to gesture towards Appleshine who was trying to look like she wasn't watching them but she clearly was. "Either way, I'm a good mentor, Foxtail. I can mentor her, okay? You're her father, I know, but I can do this." He was trying to come across more polite this time, disinterested in continuing to squabble with the tom.

"Always stay alert for anything you notice different about the territory - flooding, a fallen tree, the scent of other cats or predators - and report it to me or a warrior. Everyone has to stay aware of potential problems so we can solve them as quickly as possible. Especially with no deputy, now." He sighed.

Sorrelpatch felt her pelt grow hot with slight embarrassment. It was true that honey was helpful for the medicine cats, but at the time, the warrior had not even thought about that. "Well, it wasn't so much that it's helpful, it's more that it's delicious." She purred, sitting down with a soft sigh of relief to hear that there was a treatment for the painful stings. "At the time, I thought I could just take a little bit without them noticing... And then I thought that I would get away with just one sting... It didn't quite work out in my favor."

( Thanks! ) || Melody || She-cat || Loner || Skinny black and white calico with one round blue eye, and the other is missing with two short slashes over it. There is a patch of missing fur on her cheek as well, and her left ear is torn. || Aggressive and forward, arrogant at times but always seeking for what she perceives is best. She can be imposing, but it's how she shows caring. || Mother to Oren and Dandelion, mate to Dill || Born a kittypet, when she met a loner named Dill she left her housefolk to be with him in the wild, whom she had three kits with. || n/a || Redfleck || || Dill || Tom || Loner || Fluffy ginger tom with a white underbelly and socks. His eyes are narrow and shine a bright emerald green. || Compassionate and intelligent, he has a certain charisma about him that gets him to be automatically well-liked. However, this friendly exterior breaks down once he is faced with challenges, because he will reach his goals at all costs. Once a decision is made, he doesn't budge from them. || Father to Oren and Dandelion, mate to Melody || He was born a loner, and spent much of his time being taken care of by his parents, until they left and he found Melody to spend time with instead. He coaxed her to join him in the forest, and she accepted. || n/a || Redfleck || || Dandelion || She-cat || Loner || Wiry ginger she-cat with a white underbelly and socks. She has round, bright blue eyes. || Although shy around strangers, she's very talkative around her family. It takes a long time to get her to talk, but once she does she's filled with jokes. Her imagination runs wild behind her quiet exterior. She cares most about her family and will always stand up for them despite her shyness. || Kit to Melody and Dill, littermates with Oren || She was born a loner. || n/a || Redfleck || || Oren || Tom || Loner || Fluffy black tom with white and orange tufts of fur along his back and a white underbelly. His eyes are a dark amber, almost brown in color. || His reserved exterior hides a pretty addictive personality, a fiery core activated whenever he feels the need to master something. He doesn't open up much around others, preferring only to speak with his family or cats he is forced to interact with. || Kit to Melody and Dill, littermates with Dandelion || He was born a loner. || n/a || Redfleck || (Looks good for the most part, but you are missing something that you need in the "other" section. Please review the rules on the front page! ) ( Thanks for pointing that out. I edited the original post. )
