Streamsplash bowed her head. "I'm sorry, Silverstar. It won't happen again." Or at least I won't get caught doing so, she ventured to herself. "I would keep watch of that rogue, should she return," she promised, wishing that the promise would please the leader.

"See that you do!" Silverstar hissed. "Now please leave me in peace."
Stormstrike nodded and left his leader's den, relieved. It could've been worse, he thought. And now I better apologize to Streamsplash.

Streamsplash quickly retreated from the den as told, relieved that Silverstar didn't question her any further. She gave Stormstrike a curt nod, ready to head away.

"Wait just a minute, Streamsplash," Stormstrike meowed. "I just wanted to apologize for earlier. I understand you were only trying to do what you thought was right, but I hope you know why I was so angry. Like Silverstar said, we can't afford to let any outsiders go, no matter their age."

"I understand," Streamsplash replied, her voice a bit tensed. "I should've thought better at times like this. I accept your apology, Stormstrike, and I hope you would forgive me for my mistake, too."

Stormstrike nodded. "You are forgiven. Just make sure to report to me if you see anything strange from now on, alright?"

"Of course." Streamsplash nodded. But she wondered how much she could keep to that promise.

Stormstrike blinked gratefully at the she-cat before padding away.
Leaf padded into her mother's camp, relieved to have gotten away from the Clan cats without much effort. Fox is going to claw my ears off if he finds out how close I got, she thought to herself. Her mother on the other paw would probably just assume she was spying. I really wish she would just focus on something else. Or maybe even start her own Clan. The little she-cat soon realized how hungry she was, and padded towards the prey pile to eat.

Frost spotted her daughter moving towards the fresh-kill pile and padded up to her. "What have you been doing, Leaf?" she mewed, sniffing her daughter's pelt as an old familiar scent struck. "Have you been luring around RiverClan? I hope you've spotted something useful to report."
(g2g for now, would come back some time later. Bye!)

Leaf suppressed an annoyed sigh and turned to her mother. "Yes, I was in RiverClan territory," she began, "but it was an accident."
Fox, who was nearby and listening, gave her a look of disbelief when she said this.
"And besides," Leaf continued, sending Fox a glare to keep quiet, "all I saw were a few cats hunting. Not exactly something we can use against them, is it?"

โI wouldnโt say that,โ Frost replied, curious which of her former Clanmates Leaf had seen. โYou werenโt caught, were you?โ she mewed suspiciously, suddenly uncertain about her daughterโs skill to hide safely so far away from the border in RiverClanโs territory.

"Of course not!" Leaf meowed, perhaps a bit too defensively. "Don't you have any faith in me?" She hated lying to her mother, but she didn't want to disappoint her, either. No matter their differences, she still loved her and wanted to make her proud.

Frost blinked. "You know I do. But it's dangerous to go there by yourself; you could have gotten hurt." Pausing, Frost made a decision. "Next time let's practice spying on them together. I wonder how they're doing myself, too." Whitepaw was snapped out of his squinty daze upon hearing his mentor's voice. His eyes seemed to instantly adjust to the daylight, focusing on the older cat. He instantly perked up, a smile spreading across his face. "Of course!" he exclaimed, nearly bouncing on his paws in excitement as he said so. "What're we gonna do today?" he asked, unable to hold back from doing so. Darkwing purred, glad for his apprentice's enthusiasm. "Today I'll be teaching you how to fish. Come, let's head for the stream." Whitepaw followed his mentor excitedly, looking forward to learn the hunting skill. He was also glad for a chance to get near the borders. He'd always want more chances to meet the rebels himself secretly, but this was a wish that cannot be told to any of his Clanmates.

"Great..." Leaf hoped her sarcasm wasn't obvious. To her relief, Fox finally approached them.
"Leave her alone, Frost," he chided, though he was clearly amused as he entwined his tail with hers. Secretly though, he was wondering about Leaf's encounter himself. I'll be sure to ask her about it later, he thought to himself.
*
"Now remember," Darkwing told his apprentice as the stream came into view, "you have to be quiet and patient when fishing. That's the most important part. Think you can do that?"

"Well, I really thought it was a good idea," Frost mewed, a little disappointed, but she made sure both cats wouldn't sense it. "Go get something to eat, dear," she told Leaf, giving a lick between her ears. "I'll go check our borders."
Whitepaw nodded. Standing beside his mentor a little nervously, he glanced at the clear water. He wondered when the fish would come near, but he waited patiently as told.

Darkwing watched his apprentice with affection, and he was sure Brightstream would be proud of him. A pang of grief hit him then; like Fox, he too had been in love with the former medicine cat. Unlike Fox, he actually knew better. It didn't surprise him that Fox had left with Frost because of that, though it did when Brightstream didn't follow. Still, that didn't stop him from missing his former Clanmates from time to time. If only Silverstar wasn't so paranoid. Would she even make Whitepaw a warrior, given what his parents had done?

As they sat by the bank, a shadow flashed under the water. Whitepaw stretched out of his paws instinctually, but the fish had got away. Frustrated, the young cat let out a hiss, but pricked his ears towards his mentor for comment.

Darkwing tried not to laugh. "It's alright, Whitepaw," he assured his apprentice. "Not every cat gets in on their first try. Go on and try again."

โAlright, Darkwing,โ Whitepaw mewed wistfully, glancing down at the water surface again. He watched wide-eyed, his paws ready to swipe out anytime. When he glimpsed another shadow approaching, he flashed out his paws swiftly and tried scooping it up on the bank single-pawed. But the fish was heavier than he expected and he nearly lost balance hauling it up. โThere!โ he mewed triumphantly, looking up at his mentor. โHow was that?โ

"Excellent!" he meowed proudly. "Keep this up, and you'll be our best fisher in the Clan. Now, see if you can catch a few more and then we can take this back to camp." Silverstar will be pleased with this, he thought. He'd make sure Whitepaw would be the best warrior in the Clan that even Silverstar herself had to be impressed.

After a few more trials, Whitepaw managed to gather three more fish, though they were smaller than the first one he caught. He had learned how to maintain his balance while fishing, and he had come to spot the fish faster. He was feeling a little tired, but he wasn't sure if Darkwing had further plans for the day.

Darkwing nodded approvingly. "Very good. Let's take this back to camp now, and then I'll teach you how to swim, alright?" That was the part he was secretly anxious about the most; he knew not all RiverClan cats liked to swim, and the last thing he needed was for his apprentice to be teased for being a drypaw.

"Sounds interesting," Whitepaw replied, though he worried about getting himself all wet and stuff like that. He'd heard some cat couldn't keep their balance in the water. If he'd known his parents, maybe he wouldn't fear of learning to swim; after all, he'd known if he was born to it, right?

Darkwing took some of the prey in his jaws and headed for camp, a part of him hoping that Silverstar was awake to see what his apprentice had caught. But he knew that even if she was, nothing would change. I practically had to fight for Whitepaw to get proper training. And if the time comes, I'll do it again so he'll be warrior.
Once he got to camp, Darkwing set the prey down in the fresh-kill pile and dipped his head when he saw Silverstar approaching. "Greetings, Silverstar," he meowed.

Whitepaw widened his eyes as he saw the leader approaching, half with excitement and half with nervousness. He bowed his head with respect as Darkwing did, and waited almost fearsomely for the leader to speak.

Silverstar nodded to the warrior in acknowledgement, but ignored Whitepaw as she approached the fresh-kill pile.
Darkwing flattened his ears, but wasn't about to let his leader put his apprentice down. "Whitepaw is doing quite well, by the way! Just look at the fish he caught." He purred, but it came out awkward and forced.
"Yes, I can see that," Silverstar meowed dryly. Taking a fish for herself, she glared at Whitepaw before padding away from the two tomcats.

Whitepaw twitched his whiskers, quite unsure of the reason they got the glare. He'd somehow doubted that the leader disliked him since he was young, but he never had the chance to know why. Tail-drooped, he lay down the fish he caught.
